The Chilean board of tourism needs to go and not only clean up this place but give hospitality lessons to the vendors. It was empty and every vendor was overly aggressive in hawking the same thing... Eat here. No chance to peruse, look at the products, learn or enjoy. We left as fast as we can. It's gone way downhill one the years. Do yourself a favor and skip it.

It is Santiago’s most famous market. Located in the city center, this wrought-iron building is considered a historical landmark where the city’s best seafood is sold, alongside meat, vegetables and much more. The shellfish is definitely worth trying since it a national favourite. This market is a mix of seafood restaurants in the center and smaller, less conspicuous stalls around the perimeter.

Lively, unique and beautiful architecture. As a tourist please remember this is a bustling market. Don’t expect customer service you’d receive at a mall. Servers and workers operating stands/restaurants will try to sell things to you.

The Central Market has a great variety of food and other merchandise, at very affordable prices. There are a lot of restaurants, most of them selling the famous "Centolla", which is a big crab, though it's the most expensive plate. Some things I didn't really appreciate there were the strong odor of fish, the dirt, and the tireless sellers insisting for me to go to their restaurants. It is not a very safe place, so it's recommended that you pay attention to your valuable things (phone, and other expensive items).

A very interesting visit to do when in Santiago de Chile. The Central Market building is 90% dedicated to seafood: restaurants or shops. A lot of tiendas are closed, probably because of the pandemic, but is a MUST to go. But have in mind that the Central Market includes other 2 buildings close by (Vega), with that your Market tour will be complete in Santiago. The place itself could be cleaner. The bathroom it's paid (didn't went, so I'm not able to tell you if it was clean or not)

The place has interesting architecture (but very small), lots of fish stalls around and several seafood restaurants with incredibly aggressive waiters who really really want customers. It also feels really empty because many of the stores seem to be closed. Overall it kind of gives off a very dodgy vibe. You can't really see the place in peace because you're either being harassed by someone who wants you to eat in their restaurant or just being worried about getting robbed. There are other places in the city where you can get really good ceviche. I wouldn't recommend coming here as a tourist.

The central market is a great place to buy fresh seafood and just around the. Corner, a small farmers market to buy produce. The clams were very fresh. $2500 CLP a kilo. Mussels was $1000CLP a kilo. It is well worth to bring it back the Airbnb apartment to have some great seafood. One can also get a great deal Monday to Friday with fixed menu meals from $4,000 to $6,000CLP. There are many businesses that are closed permanently like most businesses not only in Santiago but all cities from my experience traveling the world. The pandemic has really closed many businesses for good. I highly recommend coming to the central market and walk down the side street to see the hundreds of sidewalk merchants selling many odds and ends all made in China.

This is not a safe place for travelers. Better to visit in groups. Have your belongings secure and do not have your cell in your rear pockets. Bags must be upfront. You should go, since it’s the iconic Santiago Market, but, be advised you need to be aware of your surroundings.

See the fish market which has an interesting wide variety of fresh catch. But do not eat at the restaurants. Complete tourist trap with aggressive vendors each trying to lure you into their food stall. Inauthentic experience.

Nice sea food, cheap and tasty.

Inside the building, you will find the restaurants and around stands selling fresh seafood. We didn't feel unsafe, but being the vendors for the restaurants are really pushy, and they follow you so you can go to their restaurant. This is sooo annoying. If you want to visit this place and eat here.. be prepared for that.

Cool place to go visit walk around and get fresh seafood. Very touristy and the people are a bit aggressive with trying to get you to eat at their restaurants. But I thought it was worth going to check out.

Best place to buy seafood. Here we get to see a lot of different fish species not available in Asia. There are also cafes and restaurants plus a few souvenir shops. Bought some dried fruits, nuts, blueberries and merken chilli powder.

Mercado Central (Central Market) - Fish Market in Chile with absolutely “FRESH SEA FOOD”. Great sea food choices for most fish lovers

Very cool place to visit. Most of the space is dedicated to restaurants (they’ll try to get to to eat at their place) but all the vendors are on the sides, with amazing selections

Be prepared as a foreign visitor. There are lots of restaurants inside and you will be hounded (nicely) to come eat. When you say no, they will ask you where you're from and have a several minute conversation. Sometimes you'll be stopped by another person at the same restaurant just after you extract yourself from the previous conversation. Everyone was very, very nice, but after about 8 times of being lured into conversation we finally left because we wanted to sight see and not chat.

Well on my last day of a great holiday I got mugged in broad daylight in this market. Reported to the police, they said they were sorry but it happens almost hourly. Not a place for tourists. Spoke to a local guide and he even tells local people not to go. Don't even use as a cut through. You have been warned!

On a phase of renovation... Between the last months of 2019 and the current date, the Civil Disturbs, then the COVID contingency and long quarantine, combined with the current economic downturn in the world caused the outright closure of multiple locations here... Still, some locations are now expanding, or new actors are arriving at the Market, what ensures that there will be always a nice plate of seafood or Chilean food to eat at most hours of the day.....

Pushy restaurant crew trying to get you to have lunch at their place. Crowded and best to keep an eye on your stuff, easy to get pickpocketed in the busy hallways.

Keep your wallet and phone hidden. Every shop we went to we were warned by the staff about Malandros.

A neat old market where you can find lots of seafood restaurants and some tourist shops. The place is a bit dirty and the area outside is a bit chaotic but still worth a visit.

Wow!! What a very busy place. Lots of vendors. A must is to keep a watch on your phone. The advice was phones are a hot item and thief’s will grab and run! Made sure to keep mine secured always! Common sense is keep your eyes and ears open at all times! I was with my husband and he seen a few eyeing my phone! As soon as I’d take a picture back inside my purse which is held securely. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from. Got a few trinkets to take home as gifts.

If you want to know real Chileans and feel the spirit of Chile, you should definitely visit this place. In addition to the huge variety of the freshest seafood on the shelves, there are also many restaurants where these seafood products are cooked. There are a lot of tourists and sellers can cheat so better buy fish where the price is indicated already. Here it will be immediately cleaned and cut for you. The market is open 7 days a week, but on Friday and weekend there are a lot of people.

Very busy, good seafood but the touts are a bit too much and the food quality a bit hit and miss. Also once they get you in through the doors, the attention is gone.

Very busy place. Street vendors are all around. The market is basically a fish market and sea food restaurants dominated by Donde Agusto's. Prices were very reasonable. Salmon and sea bass and abalone etc.
