Small, intimate museum about a Belgian-Balinese odd couple whose love story promoted intrigue and outrage (a Belgian artist in his 50s takes a 15 year old Balinese girl to be his lover, and eventually, his wife). Interesting little corner of Balinese history but the artworks are so badly preserved: the 'museum' is actually Le Mayeur and Pollok's home, donated by them after their death, and there is no air conditioning so the paintings have decayed in the sea air.

The art and history is interesting and the garden is nice but the museum itself is over priced and very poorly maintained. You wonder where the money is going because they're not using it to reinvest in the museum that's for sure.

Huge potential ruined by disinterested local authorities. Horrendously discoloured printed replicas of good, strong art. This place should be buzzing with tourists, have ORIGINALS on display and continuously restorated. Looks pretty much deserted. We had to search for someone to take our money for the tickets.

I went there with my only sister (as you seen on the picture) in this covid-19 pandemic , they have high standards for maintain the clean area, new normal protocol and extra nice friendly staff who will assist you to taking your picture 😉 in the entrance somebody will offer you promo ticket which is only 25K per person which is more cheaper than usual! Let's go and visit Bali Museum 3D in Renon guys ❤

Fun place to take pictures, the employees are very kind, they help us to take great pictures. It is located at ground floor of Bajra Sandhi Monument which is a stunning monument. You may also want to take an afternoon walk around this monument.

This is an excellent choice if you're looking for a place to take pictures. So many 3d paintings here. The lighting is good. Some pictures are very funny. The staffs are friendly. And in the end of the trip, you can enjoy a cup of gelato. Definitely I have no complain about this place.

despite being so glad to find this museum, I was really dissapointed and sad because of the condition of the place. No proper conservation for history of art of Le Mayeur's place and artworks over there. Mostly molded and very dirty, i saw only silica gel to prevent molds. Very very sad place. This place need someone who really care and would like to preserved it and its history sooner than later, or it will be getting worse by day because the weather in the area is very warm and humid.

This museum is rich in history and valuable paintings in a strategic location by the beach but lack of maintenance. It needs more preservation efforts to rejuvenate this place to attract more visitors.

It's a house museum who use to be the home of this Belgium painter called Le Mayeur, he lived and worked there with his Balinese companion and was even put under house arrest by the Nazis during Second World War. The place is beautiful and the whole experience was very interesting. Plus it's right by the beach 5/5.

Well worth the stroll up Sanur beach to see this. First a sumptuous example of 1930s Balinese architecture and décor set in peaceful gardens with the sound of the ocean just over the wall; second to see the works of the Belgian artist who settled here, Le Mayeur. Personally I preferred the impressionistic oil paintings of landscapes and harbour scenes to the (numerous) aquarelles and drawings of bare-breasted Balinese women. Just saying.

(+) I personally love all of Le Mayeur work; some are reproductions, while the original ones are kept in the new building right next to the house. The house itself is beautiful with exquisite carvings. Lovely garden and pond, too. (-) The house, furniture and painting collection needs immediate restoration. Perhaps a collaboration of professionals from Indonesia and. Belgium. I see termites everywhere. The lighting needs adjustment since it reflects on the glasses that protect the paintings, making it hard to enjoy the paintings. Some windows need to be blocked, the direct sunlight is damaging the paintings. They recently increased the entry ticket price. Rp.30.000 for Indonesian nationals/adults and Rp.100.000 for foreigners.

Absolutely awful. I wouldn't call this a museum in the slightest. It had some history, but this was not well preserved by any means, and most of the pictures were bad quality reprints (some double ups). The entry fee is ridiculous at 50,000 relative to what you see and the short amount of time it takes you to walk through (15 minutes). There's no air-conditioning hence the poorly preserved originals. Would not recommend

Overall a very nice museum to see some cool paintings from various different mediums, as well as furniture and photographs from the past. There are 2 buildings which house the collection, but it seems that one of them seems to be not finished. A bit more signs to explain the context and the history of the place and better care for the collection should definitely be added for the future. Definitely a nice little detour if you have the time, would take around 15 minutes 👍. Remember to not take any photographs of the collection!

Buildings are nice but the art has almost perished due to moist and salt. Not really worth the entrance fee of 50k. Story of a 52 year old painter who got a 15 year old girl to be his wife. A lot of his paintings are of underaged topless girls...

Great little museum / gallery of his work in his old home. The quality of the works are excellent and made more special by realising these were the very rooms of the home they lived in. Will take my daughter when we return. It’s a great spot to stop if you’re riding bikes up and down the promenade and was better than we expected- really interesting and worth it.

(Translated by Google) A museum with an aura of love, happiness, loyalty and sadness. The ex-residence museum with a pure Balinese aroma in the past, the Balinese past is still thick with indigenous customs & culture with a true spice of the love story of Mr Le Mayeur and Ni Polok. You will be able to see and enjoy the old old canvas paintings of canvas here. Pretty bleak museum, really wouldn't recommend. There were two or three small rooms filled with paintings, which has/had some potential, but sadly it really isn't worth the 50k rupiah entrance fee. There was very little written information about any of the paintings. The paintings had zero protection from the sun, so we're badly damaged and will only be getting worse. The toilets were barley functional (my girlfriend who has travelled extensively in SE Asia refused to use them).

I advise you to come here so it's easy to take photos because when I was there I was just the two of them together and I couldn't take photos together using a tripod too, but I forgot that The location is in the renon dps field next to the monument so it is easy to look for ... When there is water in the up-down spot, the water may leak, I don't know either .... Right there, I was outside the field and when I wanted to turn the helmet 1 down, there was no stpam who could be asked ditanya Suggestions if you want to visit wear socks so you don't have to rent / buy them ... Loads of interesting photo opportunities! The staff is very helpful and they guide you well to take perfect photos. Don't spend too much time taking photos at the beginning else you will have to rush in rest of the photo areas. Believe me there hundreds of places to take photos. Time your visit well. I would suggest to spend an afternoon here, so that you can avoid harsh sun and heat being indoors.

Road works around the museum so you have to walk along the beach path. Its not really a museum - more like a gallery with some of the early paintings , from 1938 onward. Many of them are very faded but they are a charming part of Balinese history.

Umm. Kind of interesting to see how people lived back then I guess. Most of the paintings not in the greatest shape. My daughter was weirded out by the 50 year Belgian "artist" going on to marry the 15 year old Balinese girl who posed for his paintings. Admission is 50K, you could call it pricey for the 15 minutes you will spend there.

Delicious paintings of this Belgian painter, as well impressionistic as romantic style in period 1923 - 1958. Gives a fine insight of Bali culture in first half former century. Also he gathered Balinese art and rich classical furniture. His younger wife, a amazing beautiful Bali dancer is of breathtaking beauty. To be regretted how bad the paintings are conserved. Statues in garden are really styleful and romantic

The visit of this museum makes sad. The museum, the house and studio of the legendary Belgium painter Le Mayeur and his Balinese wife can be a highlight, but one can for the moment that everyting will rotten. Shame to the people who are responsible. Nice museum for those who want to see a cultural disaster. In the that case 50.000 Rp. is a good price for a ticket.

Accessable on the beach front of Sanur. Everything looked a bit run down but they claim everything is kept in untouched original state. We were left to use our imagination and view the collection. There was no other information on video about the history of La Mayeur or his model / wife Ni Pollock. Definitely recommend reading up before or after you go to get context. You could view several oh Mayeur's work in his studio house. However on a hot day there is limited ventilation in the rooms.

Museums can be a tool for learning history for children, so they don't just focus on tourism. Lots of cool paintings and 3d settings to take your picture with, but that's it. It's not too expensive to get in, but unless you're staying close by or have more things to do in that area, the cost of travel plus the venue is a bit steep. Pre plan and have this as a quick stop in your itinerary.

(Translated by Google) This place has a lot of photo spots and is good. It's just not suitable for you who travel alone because there are no officers to help to take photos. When I got there the place was very wide but very hot and hot. I don't know if the air conditioner is broken or the air conditioner is deliberately turned off because the place was quiet, when I went there were only three of me. But that is very uncomfortable. One more if you want to get a cheaper price can order tickets at Traveloka xperience.

Although this museum is about an expat living in Bali, the house, his paintings, the photos, all gives you an idea of how life must have been almost a century ago on this unique island. The state of the house is not in good condition, but that doesn't take away the experience of a very different time when the island didn't know tourism and life was simple. You'll find tiny doors between rooms and rooms small as well - this way of constructing the house served for the natural ventilation of the space.

I think people are avoiding this place like the plague which is a shame. The buildings and grounds are lovely and have a story to tell. It doesn’t look good for the artwork tho’. It is poorly preserved and presented. The entrance fee is too high. IDR20000 would be enough, and more people would come.

An interesting little gallery with lots of Le Mayeurs work. Reasonably priced but a little bit out in the middle of knowwhere, not much around in that area. Staff are helpful and nice

This is the place we can learn about the story of one of great painters in Bali and his loving story with his wife, Ni Pollok. Even though it seemed less maintenance, but the legacy was a worth to visit.

A nice little museum - unfortunately a lot of the work seems to be suffering the ravages of Bali's climate, but still worth seeing, and the house and grounds are beautiful.

The location is in front of Sanur beach. The ticket is cheap n we get a booklet (free of charge) about the museum n history of Le Mayeur. Don't forget to ask for this. I thought I would see beautiful paintings. What I found broken old paintings n replicas. The museum well maintained as it was restorated (only I could not find dust bin!), we can see how Le Mayeur n Ni Pollock lived, but I guess it was too late to be restorated, I cannot enjoy the paintings as I expect it.

Small rather degradet house/museum. Painting were pale and damaged, no fresh colours. In museum Pasifika they have far better painting of Mayeur.

Another French who found his way to Bali, Island, Indonesia and lived there. Nice to see his paintings and too, the exhibition is close to the beach ....

Amazing artworks in uncommon media painted by a maestro. They have to reconstruct the display lighting to make the painting clearly visible. Take out the spotlight from the ceiling. The light reflection is covering the artworks. Put the led inside or behind the glass cover, so it still brightens the paintings but not disturbing the spectator.

👍 First…the traffic! It is very difficult to get to this harbor because of the terrible traffic here, so be sure that you leave earlier than usual to get here for your boat. Also, many taxis will not enter the harbor area because of the traffic snarl, so be prepared to get out and walk a few hundred m...

👍👍 Wonderful beach. It has many restaurants, cafes, bars and others to choose from along the beach. The beach is fairly clean for the most part, but be warned many corals and sharp rocks at some parts. Went here for sunrise once, it was absolutely stunning, you can spot Mount agung at certain times.

👍👍 This comment is not rated for the Mola Mola Express Boat.
