Guru Hanuman Akhara is a quaint rustic place nestled in North Delhi Ridge, standing in stark contrast to the posh Roshanara Club situated right across the road. This Akhaada, built by Guru Hanuman in 1919, has housed and honed some of the best wrestlers in the country, including Dara Singh, Satpal Singh, commonwealth Gold medalist Subhash Verma Padmashree, Dronacharya Guru Hanuman lived a simple ascetic life, practicing “brahmacharya” and vegetarianism till he died in 1999 at the age of 94. Mahasingh Rao, who’s been coaching young grapplers a the Akhara since 1984, Coach Maha Singh feels that this era has not seen a man like Guru Hanuman, and is unlikely to see one in the future.

Old temple for Pehalwans which is still the gold. One should spend few morning hours here.

There is no person there who is cooperative. I went there from Patna but they didn't give any response to join that academy. This is the main reason why other state people is not in wrestling. Nepotism Nepotism everywhere.

Finest place for wrestling in India. This Akhara has produced so many Arjuna Awardees, Dronacharya Awardees, Padma Shree, Padma Bhushan etc.. Many wrestlers from this Akhara represented India in Asia, Commonwealth, World and Olympics level . To get admission in this Akhara You must be a professional wrestler as it is not a Zym for everyone.

Great place to see Indian traditional mud wrestling.

If you have dreamt of becoming a wrestler then this place is for you. This akhara has given so many gems to wrestling world and the number is still counting...The coach sir is very supportive. Many boys aspiring to be national level wrestler stays there since 3-4 years

I'm Parth Bhatt basically form India, from time being now I'm Canada. I got astonish when I got to know about this place. Recently, I came to know about this place by my friend. My father was a fan of wrestling but because of certain constraint I was not able to go into this field. But surely I would like to visit this place whenever i'll come to India.
