For all the museum I have went in Sarajevo, I have to give this a 5 stars. The ticket is 8km which is not expensive comparing to others. The reason it is not expensive is it actually worth the time. I mean a lot of the museums in Sarajevo is just waste of time. There are three buildings of exhibition in total. I enjoy the building across the main one the most. The main building is just ruins, which I have seen a lot in Greece. There is one for special exhibition. The building itself is awesome. I can see it greatness when in the past. Now is definitely worse than before. So, use your imagination. I also take a nap at the botanic garden. The opening hours are weird Monday is closed and Sat and Sun days are closed earlier. The worker there don’t want to work or don’t have the intention of doing anything except get your 8 km. There is no direction or anything. Just go to the place that they don’t ask you out.

Excellent collection, particularly of ancient artifacts. Collections like those here in this museum and other heritage sites across the country are a testament to the rich culture and history of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to all the people who have called it home.

National Museum of Bosnia Herzegovina is very attractive a museum I ever visit in region. There is many different part with interesting parts. Also 3 blocks 3 different design and architecture. It's a must-visit museum in Sarajevo exactly. Also if you visiting the city with your children, this will be great a experience for children too.

Something for everyone! Some archeological displays, botanical gardens, ornithology, etc. A good place to spend part of a rainy day. Plan on 2 hours if you want to pause and read the display descriptions or less if you just want to look at the items. Unfortunately, despite the many “no smoking” signs, museum staff sit in offices smoking up a storm making some display areas almost intolerable at times. Plan on climbing a lot of stairs to see everything. I didn’t notice any lifts.

I wanted to like this museum, but as a National Museum it doesn’t seem to have any particular national quality, makes no attempt to explain nationhood in Bosnia. The place is mostly deserted and I had to wait and find someone at the entrance to sell me a ticket, and then they didn’t bother explaining where the exhibits were. I wandered around for a while and read the explanations of ancient archaeological finds, but they were premised on an existing knowledge about some of the historical timelines and material. I found it difficult to see the “national” quality in many of these exhibits. Perhaps the claim to a civilisation older and greater than the Ottomans or any other recent power is a claim to nationhood. But it was not well explained and the museum felt like a hodgepodge dump of everything they could find to display.

well this is fairly big. There are three buildings one pretty interesting with archaeological findings. one as a folklore museum that was very nice and has reinstalled rooms from the ottoman times with beautiful woodcarvings. And one with a huge natural life collection. But the exhibition is so old that definitely needs an update urgently. maybe a good family option

The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two main exhibitions. The archeological department displays a lot of ancient objects and shows the hellenistic and roman influence in this region. The department of natural history has a variety of zoological specimen as well as a collection of minerals. Surrounded by the building complex is a small botanical garden which is a nice place for a short break during your visit.

A beautiful building, the museum itself is established in two buildings seperate by a nice botanical garden. The left wing of the front building is currently closed so the right wing has exhibitions covering the roman period of occupation on the ground floor and the medieval period on the first floor. The second building has exhibitions of natural history and geology. It is 8KM to enter museum.

Nice light effects. Beautifull nature build by the lights. An expensive tickets, 10 e for foreigners...to much for that kind of show.

I go whenever there is a new installation to see it and look through the regular installation as well. Love this place. In the Winter the botanical garden isn’t in its best shape. Visit in summer to see it in its full glory.

A lot of old artifacts from the past, enjoyed looking at all of the old tools as well as the museum of natural hostory that is also on site. The canned beef monument is not far from here. It's not expensive and is a must see. Not far from Hotel Holiday(former Holiday Inn)

Very rude staff who dont know much or anything about the artefacts the museum is presenting. Also dont bring professional cameras if u want to take pictures. They will take them away till the end of yout visit. My advice is hide them and smuggle them in anyways :)

This a great museum to visit. The Greece/Roman wings are great and they did a great job putting it into a time line and explaining the region history with lots of texts. The medieval part has a lot of pieces, but there could be more texts for the visitor to contextualize it. Natural history is also nice and very didactic with examples, fossils and texts.

Small but lovely space. They had a photo exhibit of different Civil wars comparing stories of refugees and journalists who covered them. At the end, they had a mix of photos from all of them and you could not tell which is which.

Definitely worth a visit. It takes around 2 hours to see everything, but it can take more if you want to read and see everything in detail. There is a wonderful botanical garden in the middle of the museum. Museum's collection of minerals and insects is quite impressive.

It's was very tiny with nothing to see, but at least the staff were very friendly and I got a free ticket, which I am not sure if it's just for today or a Sunday thing. The Haggada room was also shut to visitor and I don't know why.

National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is an amazing place where you can discover past of Bosnia. The Museum has different sights worthly seeing. From Ilyrian era till Bosnian War. Ther are a lot of manuscripts from Medieval Bosnia, coins, weapons, tombstones. There is botanical garden inside the Museum complex, as well as library. Botanical garden is located in the middle of four Museum buildings, so that everything is well organised. Tourists can see exebition of Persian roughs and classical Bosniak muslim family inside of Bosnian house. For animal and herbal lovers there are awesome exhibition together with Fungi (mushrooms) exhibition, relicts, dinosaur skeleton etc. The special piece of art is Sarajevo’s Hagada, very important piece which witnesses about Jewish origins on this site. National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is close to Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, so I recommend visiting both of them. Sarajevo City Centre and Vilsonovo promenade are nearby.

Great place for a solo visit and a family visit throughout the season, with excellent recommended web sound support and the support of professional museum staff. I definitely recommend a visit to this beautifully decorated, with a perfect composition of exhibits, the National Museum of Sarajevo.

Great place, open on Sundays, which is a great convenience. The museum offers birthday party celebrations for a normal fee, where children have a professional with them performing an interactive treasure hunt.

Excellent museum with impressive collections, well organized display rooms, very friendly and competent staff. Also, a huge collection in reserve, not always displayed, although the museum itself is quite large. Could go for return visits for a hundred times more.

One of the must-see places of Sarajevo. The collection is huge and well organized so plan at least 4 hours. The geology section is my favorite, especially the gorgeous geochronology stand. The price is also really good for such a great museum.

The Prehistoric section, if generic, was well executed with great attention to detail. That Bosnia is the source of many artifacts is obvious. The photo exhibition of ~1900 was unexpected, revealing. The building and gardens are grand. Best museum I've visited, combine this with the Srebrenica exposition (Gallery 11/7/95) for a full Bosnia/Sarajevo experience.

Very nice museum a lot of history and interesting artifacts from many different eras. Me and my friend could only be there for an hour but it was a very nice visit. The receptionist was also very kind to us. Entry is 8 mark for adults which we thought was very good pricing. Foreigner friendly as all the descriptions have English aswell.

Large museum with lots of exhibits, plenty to keep you occupied for a few hours on a wet day in Sarajevo. .I went specifically to view the Sarajevo Haggadah which is only open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 1 hour. There is a museum staff member there to explain the history of the book, which has a wonderful backstory

  • 5/5 Yi Y. 1 year ago on Google
Spent a good 4 hours here. Not a big museum but a lot of interesting stuff to read and view. Recommend reading the translations of the tomb stones. Some of them were hilarious and some heart-breaking. I also found the description plates misplaced for the two tombstones in the photo.
