Absolutely appalling experience. Wait time 1 hour to get your starter which was a simple soup on the table. There was one other group in the restaurant at the time so I don’t understand the long wait time. Yes, the food is made from scratch but it wasn’t worth the wait really. The chef who is also a waiter was arrogant and unpleasant. Take your money elsewhere

Booking essential. Entered at 7.30pm. Empty but for one table with no reserved cards on tables, but told by an immensely rude man (owner/chef presumably) that it's not a fast food restaurant. Delighted to go spend money elsewhere.

You know that feeling, as a vegetarian, when you are waiting for a meal that illuminates your taste buds and pulls you in? Certainly, you won't get it here. So go and spend your money and time better, in a nicer place, with more pleasant service and most importantly with good food. This place has an ancient menu served by someone whose ego is higher than desire to present decent vegetarian/vegan cuisine.

I'll say in advance that for my experience I thought no more of it until I read another review describing the same thing, to which the owner called her a bad girl. Very few people call me a bad girl so make of this what you will. Apparently the chef is also the owner, waiter, and receptionist. Now, as a business model this is flawed. We walked in and sat for twenty minutes. No one approached us. There was no member of staff there. Literally not one. Going by how the customers were interacting with each other without the arrival of any food, I initially thought this was a street performance of Waiting for Godot. I'm told that the food is good but the restaurant takes license to be rude on the grounds that the chef is some sort of reclusive genius. So word of advice: make a reservation and then don't show up.

Absolute gem if you are a vegetarian in Bosnia. Incredible falafel and amazing prices. We came for multiple meals. I wasn’t a huge fan of the fetta hummus but everything else was amazing

The food was good. Massively let down by the owners arrogance and interpersonal skills. Wait time 2 hours and 5 minutes for 1 soup, 1 sushi and 2 mains. Going for a meal is an experience, not just a flavor. If you plan to eat here give yourself 3 hours - the group who entered at 9pm had nothing on the table when we left at 10.05pm.

I came without a reservation, as I didn't know it was mandatory. Judging by other comments, the food is probably very good, however I got turned down in such a rude way I don't feel like trying it anymore. The owner asked me to leave, as "this was not a fast food place" and told me I could try later. I didn't even have the time to open my mouth and ask if I could make a reservation for the next day. Awful exeprience.

I have travelled across many countries, the falafel I had here one of the best so. Its bit small in size. But the best falafel. I literally ordered second plate. Must try for all.

An okay place. You'll appreciate it more if you're vegetarian. Found the falafel sandwiches dry- they would have done well with some hummus inside. Instead, they had a lot of cabbage, which marred the taste. Had to order a sauce on the side separately.

This restaurant is a true gem, the food is outstanding. I had two wonderful meals there during my three evenings in Sarajevo, the first evening it wasn't possible unfortunately as my travel companion and I had no reservation. When you enter without a reservation simply ask in a respectful way if it is possible to eat there or else if you can make a reservation. The chef/owner (Sasha) is a true kitchen wizzard. Also a very intelligent man with a strong personality running a busy schedule, some reviewers seem to have a problem with that. When you have the patience to wait for an à-la-carte meal then you're likely to have an awesome culinary experience. Sasha is also the author of the first Vegetarian book in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This restaurant is a must go if you a vegetarian visiting Sarajevo. Will you taste the best vegetarian food you've ever had? Most likely not. But to experience the place itself with pictures of its eccentric owner/waiter/chef on the walls while you are waiting for the food to be made is something you are not likely to forget and it will definitely spark plenty of stories to tell. At the end of the day, that is what travelling is about.

don't judge based on the low reviews. he prefers reservations and food takes time to come out because he's the only staff and he very meticulously cooks everything from scratch. be kind to him, and he'll be kind to you. I had broccoli soup and chilli with homemade (!!) seitan + the best raki I've tasted. hvala sasha!

CAUTION! You have to make a reservation! Or else you will get turned down! The menu is a perfect selection of all types of vegetarian/vegan food. Extensive menu made up of healthy food and drinks. You might have to be a little patient with the guy (he can be a little much) and for your food. But worth it all!

Middle-eastern style restaurant! Very friendly staff, with a nice selection of mediterranean cuisine. The best place to sit is upstairs because its more spacious and less mosquitoes are up there than outside. They try their best to make falafel, hummus, and fatteh as close as they can to the originals but they still lack the taste and the chickpeas are not cooked enough. The eggplant meal as well as the fries were hot and delicious though!

We were looking for vegetarian food in Bosnia and found this place where we had dinner and had to wait a little bit more than normal because they were very busy. Next day we went there for lunch and they gave us some snack for waiting the previous day. The service and the food couldn’t be better. Totally recommended!!

Excellent food the best I tried in Sarajevo the food was fresh and made to preffictions, perhaps the service was a bit slow but was worth waiting for it. Really tasty food that reminded me of the recipe of my Lebanese aunt. The only thing better than the food was the service and cozy atmosphere - the owner and the waiter were really hospitable and generous. A must visit if you are in Sarajevo! Also a great option if you are vegan/vegetarian. :)

Best falafel in town! I come here so often and order from them, perfect every time. I especially like that they added avocado wrap. Great quality and reasonably priced. Fresh and healthy food that is much needed in Sarajevo.

Lovely small restaurant, very cute in the inside. Friendly girl working there 😁 We loved the food, really enjoyed it. Came in on a hot day, was so nice to sit and enjoy good food with air-conditioning in the background. Would come back definitely if I'm back in the city.

I had a pleasant experience. The food was simple yet well-executed, and I particularly appreciated the friendly waiter. As a delightful surprise, I received a complimentary Turkish tea. If I had one recommendation, it would be to add a touch more acidity to the dishes, perhaps by offering more lemon slices. The food was undeniably fresh, and the service was impressively fast. I'll definitely return and would highly recommend this restaurant to others.

The restaurant is always busy and in a busy location. Only a few seats outside and inside. There are many options. The food came out quickly. It would have been better with more salt. The service itself was a bit absent - it took a while for someone to take away dirty plates, to take our order and to ask for the bill.

One of the few places in Sarajevo where you can get vegan food. The portions are quite big and they offer different falafel dishes, which are quite tasty. They also offer takeout, and since the place is very small, it is a better option than dine-in for bigger groups.

  • 4/5 David K. 6 months ago on Google
4.5 stars Falafel Restaurant is a small, cozy cafe in Sarajevo’s old town offering a completely vegan menu of Middle Eastern eats. The specialty is, of course, falafel, and the Extra Mini Mix Meal came with the small, herbaceous chickpea fritters; foul mudammas (fava bean stew); hummus; and mixed salad; along with an airy, fluffy flatbread on the side. Though not the best hummus and falafel I’ve had, everything was tasty and came at a good value, and this small, locally-run business was super friendly too!

If you're reaching a point where you need a break from the meat-heavy Balkan cuisin, this is the perfect place to go. The menu is fully veggie with lots of vegan options and the food is really good. It's a nice little family run place in a side alley of the busy bazaar street right in the center of old town. Don't miss it when visiting Sarajevo!

Such a gem! We had read about this place and heard good things, especially for vegan/vegetarian options. We sat upstairs and there were a bunch of travellers eating there, we got carried away chatting and chatting while we enjoyed the great food! We sat up there so long, the girl working there just kept bringing us complimentary items. Little salads/ tea and even fresh squeezed juice for our son! Really the level of hospitality she showed us was such a breath of fresh air, as the level of service in this country is not what we are accustomed to (lacking). Very recommended!

  • 5/5 Lena S. 7 months ago on Google
Food was great quality and really tasty. We chose a few dishes from the wide variety they offer (as far as we could tell everything was vegetarian - I think a lot is vegan as well but maybe ask the welcoming staff to double check). We had a little bit of a wait, so maybe prepare for that in the evening (of course we don't know if this is usual, but staff was very nice and apologetic about it and it was not a problem for us). Definite recommendation, especially but not exclusively for vegetarians.

Amazing little gem in Sarajevo! My girlfriend is vegan and it's really hard for her to find food for her in Sarajevo. Then she found this restaurant online and we couldn't wait to visit. It was amazing. Our first time was with another couple that have never tried vegan food and even they thought it was amazing. The food was freshly made and worth the wait cause it's made from scratch. While we waited we drank some excellent white whine and rakija. The owner/cheff was really nice to us and gave us a really nice and cozy experiance. I recommend Karuzo to everyone who has a chance to go to Sarajevo, especially vegans and vegetarians. They also have al lot of seafood which is great for people who do eat meat. We will go there now every time we visit Sarajevo!

Even though the food was very tasty, we were surprised by the pictures on the menu. We ordered the fatus falefelom. On the picture on the menu it has 10 pieces of falafel on it, but in reality the plate only had 5 pieces, and we had to pay extra for extra falafel. I feel like this was misleading, and should be changed. Except from that the service wasn't bad, and the food was very good.
