If
you
happen
to
be
travelling
in
Sarajevo,
I
highly
recommend
you
stay
at
the
War
Hostel.
Bosnia
and
Herzegovina
is
a
beautiful
country
with
breathtaking
landscapes
and
rich
culture,
however
it
is
a
country
that
it
still
very
much
scarred
by
the
horrendous
and
devastating
war
that
took
place
thirty
years
ago.
With
this
in
mind,
I
would
highly
recommend
you
consider
staying
at
the
War
Hostel
while
in
Sarajevo.
It
is
by
far
a
unique
experience
unlike
any
other
hostel
I
have
been
to.
Make
time
to
speak
with
your
hosts
who
themselves
had
to
endure
the
horrors
of
the
siege
of
Sarajevo.
The
host
family
are
very
welcoming
and
will
go
out
of
there
way
to
ensure
you
take
away
something
from
this
experience.
They
are
always
willing
to
talk
and
itās
a
rare
opportunity
to
learn
more
about
the
troubled
history
of
Bosnia.
To
add
to
the
immersion,
the
rooms
are
filled
with
artefacts
and
newspaper
articles.
You
can
even
use
the
actual
soap
used
during
the
siege
while
in
the
bathroom.
They
also
run
a
small
but
fascinating
museum
down
the
street
with
plenty
of
information
about
the
war.
Access
is
free
and
itās
worth
taking
an
hour
to
visit.
If
you
stay
at
the
hostel,
the
host
family
also
offer
tours
of
the
front
lines
in
the
mountains
or
of
the
scars
left
in
the
city.
Guests
receive
a
discount
and
I
highly
recommend
this
experience.
Itās
not
everyday
that
you
get
the
chance
to
explore
bunkers
and
trenches
with
a
veteran
who
actually
fought
there.
Sadly
the
Hostel
had
to
close
during
the
pandemic,
but
itās
fantastic
that
they
have
decided
to
reopen
in
order
to
offer
a
unique
and
educational
visit
for
travellers
who
come
to
visit
Sarajevo.
