The Olympic Museum in Sarajevo is a good place for die hard sports fans to visit as it displays some very interesting memorabilia from the 1984 Winter Olympics. It is located in a beautiful luxury villa. But to be honest, it probably isn't worth it for the average tourist. 12 KM is a steep price for 2 floors of exhibition which you'll have covered in 30 minutes max.

It's very interesting to see all the memorabilia displayed in the museum about Winter Olympic Games held in Sarajevo back in 1984. It is not very big, but it has very beautiful building. It doesn't take so long to observe all collections in this two-storey building. So, if you have a short time visiting Old Town, perhaps you would like to hike a little bit to stop by at this museum. Entrance ticket for Foreigner is 12 KM (about 10 USD) and 5 KM for local residence (proved with ID Card).

    Quite a nice item.

This is low budget: so much so that the lights were off for the exhibit and there was no obvious signage outside. There are some gems here: the original design manual for the Sarajevo 84 logo and typeface, documents from Samaranch and quiet echos of the war that subsumed Sarajevo less than a decade after the games. There's little here in English, and very little commentary presented in any language. I'm so glad this is here and I enjoyed a visit, but I'd love them to make more of their collection if space or cost would allow.

Loved it, and I nearly gave it a pass due to the prior reviews that people left. It was a great museum that balanced Its displays to explore all facets of the Sarajevo Olympics. People are passionate about the ‘84 Olympics for good reason, I watched them during my childhood and never forgot the magic of them. Video displays, behind the scenes documents, equipment, and details of sports history. Andy Warhol’s original speed skating artwork was something that I was really happy to find in the museum. Something for everyone. Amazing how these artifacts were saved by a very dedicated museum staff. Bravo Sarajevo!

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, a lot of people do not know about exhibited museums, like the work of Andy Warhall. It is cruel and how it is all housed in "glass cabinets". I hope the situation will change after the transfer to the original object. (Original) Na zalost mnogo ljudi ne zna o izlozenim.primjercima u muzeju, poput djela Andy Warhall-a. (Translated by Google) It is not a very large museum, and it is also difficult to find. The Samaranch is adjacent to the Olympic Pavilion. Before arriving at the museum, memories of the Sarajevo Olympics can be seen on the streets. Admission to the museum was free when we went (summer 2019). Inside the museum are videos of the Olympics held in Sarajevo. There are also memories of the Olympics and Yugoslavia. It is worth the trouble (Original) Ez da oso museo handia, eta, gainera, kosta egiten da aurkitzea. Samaranch Pabiloi Olinpikoaren ondoan dago. (Translated by Google) The Sarajevo Olympic Museum was opened on February 8, 1984, on the opening day of the 14th Winter Olympic Games. The museum was opened with the aim of permanently preserving and heritage the memory of the organization of one of the largest sporting events held in Southeast Europe. From 1984 to 1992, the Museum operated in a representative villa in the center of Sarajevo. On April 27, 1992, during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Museum building was set on fire and many valuable exhibits were destroyed. The rescued exhibits were re-installed in the new Olympic Museum, in 2004, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the XIV Winter Olympics, which is located in the Zetra complex in the premises of the Olympic Committee of BiH. The museum has a documentary exhibition on the organization, preparation and realization of the Winter Olympics '84 and an art collection of donated works of art, the collection Map of World Graphics "Art and Sport" with works by artists: Henry Moore, Andy Warhol, Michelangelo Pistoletto, and a collection of contemporary Bosnian artists: Mersad Berber, Boško Kućanski, Mehmed Zaimović and many others. The building of the Olympic Museum was designed by the famous Czech architect Karlo Paržik as a villa for the Sarajevo lawyer and politician Nikola Mandić in 1903, and was modeled on luxury European villas from the same period. After the Second World War, the building was nationalized and declared social property. The building of the Olympic Museum has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the architectural ensemble of villas from the Austro-Hungarian period in Petrakija Street. Reconstruction works are currently being carried out on the building. The City of Sarajevo has undertaken activities to open the Museum before the 2019 EYOF organized by Sarajevo and East Sarajevo.

Should be a mandatory visit for lovers of the Olympic games or movement when in Sarajevo. Lots of memorabilia, paraphernalia and momentos to the winter olympics in 1984 - but also a nod to the wider olympic spirit. There are also a few themed videos to watch to bring the context to life. Loved my visit there!

OK. Apparently the original museum burned and so they appealed to locals for souvenirs, etc. Most of what the new museum has are just glass cases full of souvenirs from the Games. Not much is labeled. It's pretty much a waste of time, unless you're a die-hard Olympics fan.

a beautiful reconstructed building (was destroyed during the bosnian war) with an interesting collection about the 1984 olympics. i was especially touched by the corner dealing with the war destruction and the damaged medal and the solidarity of barcelona and lillehammer during this difficult time

I had a delightful experience exploring the museum. The staff was incredibly friendly and made me feel welcome. The exhibits at the museum were impressive and well-curated. It would take approximately 30 minutes to fully appreciate all of them. Just a heads up, they only accept cash for admission.

You don't have to be a winter sports enthusiast to make a visit to this museum worthwhile. For me it is something of an elegy to the old Yugoslavia which seven years before its end could organise and host a major cultural event. Its easy also to visit what remains of the facilities such as the bobsled track and the ski jumps. The former can be reached by cable car.

This is listed as an attraction included in the city pass, but they refused to honor it. In fact, the tall slender man with grey hair made me pay cash to enter on top of what I already paid for the city pass. DO NOT come here expecting the city pass to work.

We were expecting more. In a way we understand, but still a bit dissapointing. One would expect a souvenir shop l but there is none. We would love to buy a Vučko from the museum instead of a random guy on bascarsija. Admission is a bit steep regarding the size of an exhibition.

Nicely organised museum with some very interesting facts about the Olympics. The visit shouldn’t take a lot of time - 30min up to 1h if you are keen to learn everything they offer. (Before/after the museum, take a coffee in the nearby place called Kawa.)

They really did a nice job renovating the place as it was completely destroyed in the 1992. Museum has nice little collection of memorabilia, medals and posters. Images and details of Olimpics held in Sarajevo. Would be good to have more multimedia (interactive) details about the games itself. Worth the visit if you're interested in learning about the city.

I cannot answer the question in the survey about how long I waited to enter the museum, because during the museum's working hours the doors were locked and we waited and did not wait for them to unlock and enter the museum. Zero stars because we didn't even have a chance to enter the museum.
