Fancy! Was looking for a dessert place in Kyoto and stumbled upon Bel Amer. It sells upscale specialty chocolates and has a cafe upstairs. The chocolates looked amazing but I was worried about them not keeping further along my travels through hot Asia. But they would be amazing as gifts to take back to Canada. I wish they had one in North America. We went to the cafe and had a green tea souffle and a green tea parfait. The souffle came with white chocolate ice cream and dark chocolate sauce which was amazing. The green tea parfait had mochi, azuki been and green tea jelly was really delicious and decadent. They had some really nice looking drinks but I find in Japan the drinks are quite pricey. There was a 40% discount if you bought a dessert which made It reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient. A lovely cafe which I would return to.

A group of 4 customers (young women, of course) talking WITHOUT MASKS. Kyoto just had a record number of confirmed corona cases and Delta strains going around, still the cafe allows these ppl to talk without masks. I was so worried about corona infection. Afternoon tea was NOT “good value for money.” I felt the food was sitting there for a long time. Poor choices of cake (only 3 types were available at that time, out of many). Taste was acceptable but I wanted to eat other cakes. Only 1 pot of tea (2 cups) or 1 cup of coffee. No scones. The only good thing was, it “looked” good. At four seasons hotel, I had unlimited tea and was able to drink all kinds of tea, plus high quality cake/savory food for ¥6750. So ¥5500 for afternoon tea at this small cafe was not great.

Bel Amer serves some excellent desserts and coffee. I really enjoyed their extensive selection of sweets! Everything looked so beautiful. Presentation is top-notch, as with most things in Japan. Service was great, despite our inability to speak Japanese. Our server did her best to explain things to us in her limited English but she was very friendly and accommodating. The chocolates that they sell downstairs are like works of art! Absolutely gorgeous!

Too pretty to eat…😍😍 everything looks so beautiful and so tasty. I have to return to the U.S. in a few wks but wanted to buy some gifts for friends in the U.S. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and the one who helped me checked on ever expiration date for all the ones I am buying to make sure it will be good even after I return to the states. This is the perfect place to buy very special gifts. I wanted some beautiful chocolates but the exp dates were very short. I bought some for myself to eat and they were so~ good.

Definitely the best small gift if you want to bring back to your country. Small but very delicate with kinds of tea chocolate options. Love the hojicha and matcha chocolate.

OMG!!! The chocolate ice cream was the best one I ever had !!! Although I ordered the matcha-parfait, I can’t forget the flavour of the chocolate ice cream haha it was not too sweet and was rich. I’ll definitely recommend this place.

Great place for tea but food options are limited. Beautiful chocolate and dessert options, especially in the shop downstairs.

This place is a gem for Chocolate!! it’s so delicious !!! the packaging is so refined and worth getting some chocolates. I got the dark chocolate circle bar with pistachio paste and it was just perfect. Great for souvenirs as well!!!

Ordered the chocolate parfait since they no longer seem to offer the Mont Blanc several of the previous reviews recommend. Hopefully they’ll bring it back in the future! The parfait was beautifully crafted and tasted quite delicate. I enjoyed the varying textures and flavors the dessert presented. It’s one of my favorite desserts from this trip! The staff were kind and patient. You can also enjoy a nice view if you sit by the windows.

Chocolate from them is super latest. It's a bit expensive but the tastes valued the price. I can accept it:-) Definitely I'll return to eat something new type of sweets.

The choco sticks taste wonderful. The mixture of chocolate and tea / fruit flavours integrate perfectly. There are at least 3 textures of chocolate in one single bar. However, you can skip the square chocolate (tea/alcohol) one, too much syrup and sugar.
