Königstein Fortress is an absolutely great place, I was really surprised. There are a lot of exhibitions, amazing views of Elba, and the hills around the fortress. There is a big territory and a park for a walk. You can easily spend the entire day here. Also, this place was interesting for the kids. The trip to the fortress could be combined with visiting the Bastei bridge as well.

The Königstein Fortress is a really unique place to visit. It's placed high up on a mountain, on cliffs. It is filled with museums and points of view. The description describes the way people lived in the castle from the 13th to 18th century in detail. It has places to eat and drink, as well as places to sit. Really cool place overall, I recommend visiting it.

To me, this fortress was awesome. The exhibitions are very well done. The views are amazing, and the grounds are very well maintained. We hiked all the way from the bottom, so it was also a nice little exercise as well. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. This fortress has SO much interesting history to it. So it's really well worth learning about. The only small downside is if you're not able to read German, or don't use Google Translate, you might miss out on some of the historical information, as not all the signs have an English translation.

Such a beautiful place. The view is breathtaking really - it looked like a picture irl. And the fortress is great as well, so many things to see. It is around an hour walk from the train station and it's a bit tiring but definitely worth it (there is a bus option but if you don't need to use it, walk there). The fortress will take you a full day to see. There are few restaurants which are a bit expensive but if you take foos with you, it should be fine! Recommended

Go with time if you want to see all the buildings and exhibitions (2-3h).13€ pp. Amazing views. Really liked the VR experience it was something unique and well done. The well is very impressive for how deep it is.Be sure to check the souvenir shop before you leave. I wouldn’t recommend to have the ice cream because it’s expensive, cannot pay with card and no receipt.

Unbelievably cool fortress, one of my favorite ones in Germany. It is absolutely grandiose and massive, the walls are probably 30-40 meters tall. If you’re visiting Saxon Switzerland, take a whole day to explore the fortress museums and the town. Absolutely recommended to visit.

It's quite beautiful but if you do a tour from Dresden you'll be there mid day and likely hit the crowds which makes it less enjoyable as you cram yourself in spots to get photos. I highly recommend that if you're visiting as a tourist to maybe rent a car and go early or do a tour that gets there early. Just so you can enjoy the sites without bumping into people everywhere.

Impressive place. Wasn't here for long, this was the end of my hike to meet the rest of the family who went straight up to the castle. It was so huge that finding each other was no trivial feat. Definitely worth the visit (and the hike up the hill), whether you like to explore every info board there is, or just want to enjoy the views.

Fortress offers excellent views of the Elbe river valley and Saxony Switzerland. Tip: if you're pressed for time and don't like hiking, you can go up the fortress through and elevator which is already included in the entrance ticket (not the panorama elevator). The place can be reached by public buses but it's better to get the private buses which take you all the way to the entrance of the fortress. There are food options inside although they serve mostly German fare. There's also a playground with building blocks where little toddlers can spend their time.

We could not imagine what a fortress was before we entered Königstein. A few gates and a whole village instead of a castle! Nicely done museums and one of the deepest wells over 150m deep. There is something for everyone.

Great fortress with an amazing view. The exhibitions were very interesting and well kept items were presented. We traveled with two kids (3 and 5 y, kids under 6 y are free of charge) and they enjoyed it also. In one of the exhibitions they could dress up in costumes (under 10 y) so it kept the spirit high... definitely recommended...

When you arrive with car, there is big parking house for cars. From parking house you need to take a short walk up to the hill and there is castle. Large castle complex with different buildings. Certainly take a walk and enjoy views to the surrounding landscape. There is restaurant, so if you are hungry, there can you eat. But the views are great. Go and see yourself.

This fortress is quite old and experienced both the wars. Not only war but also the change between climate and cultures. This is a must visit place. Whether you are a history lover or a nature lover . This place has both.

Really nice castle, even the exhibition about the gardens was interesting. If you go with the elevator up, it is a bit difficult to find your way. This is not a big problem

It is a very simple place, not a castle level, but the main exhibition is good and the view from the fortress to the Elbe is wonderful. The path where you can go up to the fortress from the city is also beautiful.

Very interesting place for history lovers, and not only. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to visit all areas of the Fortress, but for sure will come back again soon

During my stay in Königstein I visited the nearby ancient Königstein Fortress. A lift brings you all the way up, after some hiking from the parking. A very large fortress with lot’s of museums. To see all you need a whole day. I can recommend.

The fortress is perfectly preserved. look very powerful. located on a rock and was impregnable throughout its existence. It is possible to get an audio guide. visiting the fortress takes about 2 hours. I recommend dressing warmly as there is a very strong wind at the top

An amazing experience! A must see! The views are incredible. The tour is very thorough, and attention to detail in both the explanation of the history, and the architecture - is resolute! The fact that this entire project was built by hand, with simple machines is remarkable. Prepare to spend the better part of a day here, because there is much to see & learn.

Must visit and must see place. Spare 3-4 hours to walk around huge surface of the fortress, enjoy breathtaking views over Elba river and visit interesting exhibitions

Best views ever. Place filled with history. Check when is the last train coming down from there (usually 17:00), otherwise you will have to enjoy a very nice walking through the forest. Also a reminder: elevators work until 18:00.

Wrap up well, the fortress is high and very exposed to a freezing wind. Better to visit in summer to sit out take a beer and enjoy the extensive view. Otherwise an interesting place, not war museum quality, but worth a visit if in the area.

It is worth the climb up the hill to this fortress. It will take you at least 2 hrs to walk around. Good place to take pictures and also view the entire town from here.

Incredible castle made on top of some big stones on a hill. It has a view of the Elbe river and its possible to walk around it or pay to enter. Both possibilities are good options. Its on of a kind castle, very impressive and huge.

A must see when in or around Dresden. We took a train ($23.00) for the two of us, they required seeing your vaccination card, Entry was about $16 per person. Very few visitors at this time so wonderous to wander the grounds and buildings. Very worthwhile

Huge. Of historical importance. Lots of different things to see, from exhibitions to demonstrations of 100 year old technology to fortress building at its best, even with fun stuff for smaller kids. Bring some time, we spent hours there, but also bring some money - entry fees are on higher side. Views into the Elbe valley are spectacular, as is the fortress itself. Explanations signs are sparse, though, so an audio guide or guided tour might be worth it for those with an interest in the details.

This is such a wonderful place! Especially with the Xmas markets in December, it was so worth a visit and not as crowded as Dresden. The tour throughout the Fortress Museum offers to children under 10 years to wear a costume from 19th century (included in the admission) throughout the visit, which was a huge hit with our kids! And so was the audio for children & the occasional interactive things scattered all over the exhibition. All in all one of the best museum/galleries I visited in a long time. Highly recommended for all ages, but especially for families with kids all ages.
