ACR Hot Roti & Doubles

Restaurant Caribbean restaurant

🫤 This place has been around for many years but the food is just average. If you can make it out to the west end, Indar’s has far better doubles and does not charge for every little condiment. Also, they do not drown the doubles in pepper especially when someone requests for it not to be spicy. My fam... People often mention doubles, taste, years, pepper, service, good, roti,

These are the best Doubles in Toronto hands down and I’ve been to over a dozen others. Can’t beat the price at $3 per double. The pepper hot sauce here is not as sour as the other places. The chickpeas are much softer. It’s not super messy and hard to eat as some other places. The place itself is super unassuming. It’s a true “hole in the wall” golden gem. Grab and go or eat at the counter there. The Aloo Pies are delicious too. They’re basically like a double but in fried bread and have potatoes as well. Also try the Pholouri (fried dough balls) with the chutney sauce. Super tasty food and extremely light on the pocket!

This place has been around for many years but the food is just average. If you can make it out to the west end, Indar’s has far better doubles and does not charge for every little condiment. Also, they do not drown the doubles in pepper especially when someone requests for it not to be spicy. My family and I can handle spicy foods but this was not enjoyable. The customer service is some of the worst that I have come across. Mind you, I was not expecting much given the reviews online and the fact that this place is a hole in the wall and yet I was still disappointed. I spent $70 but the employee working at the front treated me like I was an inconvenience and did not respond to any of my questions. Also, this place only takes debit or cash.

Been visiting this shop for years now since I’ve moved close to the area. The doubles are what it’s known for as well as the huge selection of classic and traditional West Indian cuisine along with all the most popular snacks! If you are a West Indian looking for the fresh doubles taste like when you buy it from the stall back home at 6am in the morning. This is the place to visit. The owner always takes pride in the quality and it does speak volumes for itself. Hot and fresh tasting every-time!

Get the doubles. Spicy. It’s not the same without the fruity hit of their hot sauce. This place typically has (a lot of) people in it, so expect to take this to your car and eat it right away. Do not recommend you wait (though it is no less delicious, the bara is best fresh). Consider getting the house made peanut punch.

The REAL REAL AUTHENTIC TASTING FOOD. Doubles are good, (not the best) but definitely good. Taste like homemade cooking. The people working here are pleasant and kind. If ever in the area, try them out. Can’t go wrong:)

My go to spot for doubles when I’m craving, easy with the pepper here tho you might not be able to handle it lol get slight pepper to start. Great doubles 2.50 + tax each, place not the cleanest and staff not the friendliest but the doubles hit.

Read their google reviews and wanted to try out their food. Purchased 1 shrimp roti, and 1 goat roti. Also purchased 2 saheena, and 2 doubles. As stated in other google reviews, their food is delicious, and well prepared. I asked for xtra spicy in all ordered items. Now that is where i find their pepper sauce is quite good. It was just enough heat but it did not overcome the taste of the spices and ingredients. They are open on the weekend. I plan to add this restaurant to my goto list.

I was very disappointed 😞 with the items purchased i.e. Doubles, Phoulorie, Sheena, Biganee and Chicken Roti. Nothing tasted authentic. It was some of the worst East Indian Delicacies I've had. The items were also pricey. I will not be going back!!

Terrible customer service. Closed an hour before closing but left the sign on open. Walked in and asked if they were still open as the door was open and the sign was on but lights off (happy to leave if they were not or wanted to get out early), asked twice and the only response back from grandma was "what do you want". K. Then they said no debit only cash, despite there being a debit machine on the counter. K. Fished out change from the car and got my food but regretted not just driving away. No thank you, no answer or acknowledgement from the other side of the counter. Last I checked it was your customers that keep you in business, very odd choice to treat them as poorly as you can. If they didn't want to serve me and close early all they had to do was answer my question, that's it, and they couldn't even do that. Been going here over 15 years and never going back and I'd recommend you never step foot in this place, better service and food elsewhere.

I can't understand some of the negative reviews on here - but I can only speak for myself when I say that the times I've been in for lunch, I was greeted with a smile from start to finish. The doubles hands down are absolute killer! You can't go wrong at all for 3 bux, I'm serious! The chicken roti was decent - Took me a several bites to get through the actual roti to the meat itself - I will admit that the pepper sauce needs to be more hotter and spicier for that type of dish and type place that is it coming from, however it was flavorful. Have I had better elsewhere - sure / would I get it again there - maybe not. But I am enthusiastic to try a lot more on the menu no doubt. This is an old school family owned and operated west Indian roti joint - a hidden gem in an old round strip plaza, hidden close to deepest darkest Scarborough. Very easy to pass this place if your not looking. So why not stop in for some doubles and a "Solo" pop / they also carry the "Peardrax" drink (very recommended and hard to find!)

I had tried ACR doubled and to be honest the hype some people are giving it is not worth it. I don't find the taste to be all that people make it out to be. I know doubles is greasy but this was more than greasy and flavour was missing. Not sure if that could have been a one off day or what. I tried it and I will not return.

I've been coming here since the early 2000s and I have to say the doubles and saheena roll for me are top tier quality and flavor. I've been to many spots for doubles to me this is my favorite. I can't handle too much spices anymore so I have to order with slight pepper now. Their peanut punch is amazing too. I would highly recommend this place to others! The staff are very pleasant and kind.

I had never heard about a doubles in my life. One of my friend suggested me to try and i have to say that i am now addicted to it. I am indian and doubles taste very similar to our traditional dish. This restaurant absolutely deserves 5 stars for their taste and reasonable pricing. I live a little far otherwise i would have doubles every second day!! Love it

My coworker turned me on to this place. Absolutely killer doubles...the best doubles I've ever had. Other places around make ok doubles but we always come back here because they're the BEST. Love this place. Everyone at work gets soooo excited when anyone walks in with a bag of ACR doubles.

Food is good. Customer service is not th greatest nor the friendliest. Also, the actual price charged does not add up to what's on the board after you factor in taxes. I can only think that they charge extra for spice but why? It's not like doubles or saheena should be bought without spice in it. Very sneaky.

Yes ppl aren't happy about service but this IS a smaller take-out shop and they make it relatively fresh. Down in the islands, you'd be served about the same time. And remember you don't see the phone orders on the back end that they're trying to complete. Also just cuz you're not happy with service doesn't give you the right to be rude to someone. I've never had issues with service other than me needing to rush because I'm the one that's late. Can't beat the authentic Trini flavours tho. They haven't changed their flour like Roti Hut. This reminds me of back home. Except for no spice. They make it for the North American tongue. Ask for extra spicy. Pholourie dip/chutney changes on who makes it. Not as good as it used to be years ago. Doubles were never my thing so the greasy nature of it doesn't appeal to me.$3 for one also not worth it to me now. Other items better like the roti Works well to reheat if needed (don't microwave, warm in real oven better). And while not accepting credit cards is odd nowadays, it's understandable as then they don't have to pay merchant fees. Cost of food already going up so any increase is going to go down to the customers. Parking is in the back/side of building, or just use the Freshco parking lot. Heaven forbid you actually have to walk to the store. Keep your expectations realistic for a shop of this nature.

Food used to taste good back 30 years ago. Went back this weekend food is terrible, taste like they use old oil. Pholorie and chutney taste and smell nasty did not even try it just dump it in the garbage. Their food it very stale karma taste really old. Hubby got sick from eating the curry. Waste of money and an embarrassment to Trinidad food .As for the place over 30 years and they never even update the restaurant. It looks and smell even more dingy and musty...Sorry to say customers but Trinidadian food taste a hell of a lot better than that. This place don't even worth 1 star.

After hearing so many people rave about ACR doubles we gave it a shot. Definitely authentic trini dishes & lots of snacks/delicacies available. No seating areas. This one gets a stamp of approval.
