When
visiting
friends
this
September,
we
also
decided
to
do
some
sightseeing
and
check
out
the
Externsteine
in
the
Teutoburg
Forest.
And
they
are
really
worth
a
visit!
You
can
reach
the
area
by
bus
(either
with
the
‘Touristiklinie
792’
or
the
bus
782.
Both
start
in
Detmold
and
take
you
right
there),
or
take
the
car
as
we
did.
Parking
cost
us
4€,
and
if
a
certain
need
arises
–
the
toilets
there
do
cost
50
cent
per
Person,
but
they
were
really
clean
and
well
taken
care
of.
Then
you
walk
up,
past
a
restaurant,
a
booth
selling
cards
&
some
drinks,
and
the
shop
where
you
can
get
your
tickets
to
head
up
the
stairs
and
climb
the
structure.
Right
now
entrance
to
the
top
of
the
stones
is
rather
limited
(only
groups
of
10
may
head
up,
and
you’re
only
given
20
minutes
for
the
climb);
we,
however,
didn’t
get
up
as
it
was
raining
a
lot
that
day.
Which
means
we
definitely
have
to
come
back
one
day!
Walking
from
the
parking
spot
to
the
stones
doesn’t
take
long
at
all,
you
just
head
through
a
small
forest
area
and
then
there
they
are!
The
sandstone
rock
formation
consists
of
several
tall
columns
which
are
really
impressive.
The
forest
surrounding
them
looks
also
really
nice,
and
it
definitely
is
great
if
you
enjoy
longer
walks.
The
area
is
popular
among
pagans
and
is
often
used
for
gatherings
and
celebrations,
especially
on
the
summer
solstice
and
the
Walpurgis
Night.
But
it’s
also
a
really
popular
tourist
sight,
and
although
I
would
have
preferred
sunshine,
the
rain
blessed
us
with
fewer
visitors,
and
so
we
were
able
to
fully
enjoy
the
scenery.
