Nice place, the entry fee is not expensive, I was not able to get here in time so the booth was already closed, but I was still able to climb the most right rock. Amazing views since it had been raining that morning. Normally it’s very calm and quiet but there was a class on a school trip which kind of ruined the noise experience for me. Nonetheless, great place to visit, enough parking and not expensive, I believe 3 euros for a day.

A distinctive sandstone rock formation in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. The Externsteine are identified as a sacred site of the pagan Saxons, there is no archaeological evidence to confirm the site's use during the relevant period. Archaeological excavations have found some Upper Paleolithic stone tools dating to about 10,700 BC from 9,600 BC. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Multiple trial walks to go on. Nice restaurant with kids at area near the entrance / parking.

Fascinating natural architecture consisting of tall columns of rocks surrounded by lake and grasslands. Great place to visit for nature lovers. One can climb up using the staircase to the top to enjoy the panoramic view. I find it a worth visit. Please keep in mind that the direct bus available one in an hour. Great place for relax and one day outing.

Unique and fascinating rock formations that has historical and cultural significance. Combine this with the amazing view of the surrounding area… makes it a must visit place! You can buy the ticket just below the rock formations if you want to go to the top to see the view from above, it costed 4€. Definitely worth it!

Lovely place in nature to spend a day with your family. The Externsteine are cool and the neighboring parks are great for hiking. There are some eating possibilities around and much space for a picnic. The parking (paid) situation is good.

What an interesting place to visit. Amazing energy at certain places. Very old sacred site. Lovely forest behind the little lake. Also good to start a proper hiking route. The parking is 4 euros and brings you very close by. Or park at the other side of the forest. The restaurant is nice to eat before the place closes around 1730.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful rock and very beautiful hiking trails around the Externsteine. Everything is well signposted, so you shouldn't get lost. Sturdy shoes should be worn for hiking, as some or many paths lead over forest floor. Parking is free at the sorting area in Holzhausen , and from there it is about 15 minutes through the forest to the Externsteinen. From there there are many opportunities to explore the area with a hike. So hiking boots / backpack and off you go. Also Wanderschuhe/Rucksack und los gehts.

When visiting friends this September, we also decided to do some sightseeing and check out the Externsteine in the Teutoburg Forest. And they are really worth a visit! You can reach the area by bus (either with the ‘Touristiklinie 792’ or the bus 782. Both start in Detmold and take you right there), or take the car as we did. Parking cost us 4€, and if a certain need arises – the toilets there do cost 50 cent per Person, but they were really clean and well taken care of. Then you walk up, past a restaurant, a booth selling cards & some drinks, and the shop where you can get your tickets to head up the stairs and climb the structure. Right now entrance to the top of the stones is rather limited (only groups of 10 may head up, and you’re only given 20 minutes for the climb); we, however, didn’t get up as it was raining a lot that day. Which means we definitely have to come back one day! Walking from the parking spot to the stones doesn’t take long at all, you just head through a small forest area and then there they are! The sandstone rock formation consists of several tall columns which are really impressive. The forest surrounding them looks also really nice, and it definitely is great if you enjoy longer walks. The area is popular among pagans and is often used for gatherings and celebrations, especially on the summer solstice and the Walpurgis Night. But it’s also a really popular tourist sight, and although I would have preferred sunshine, the rain blessed us with fewer visitors, and so we were able to fully enjoy the scenery.

Fantastic scenery, with a great view when you are on top! Great place to hike or to walk with family and kids. Enough place to relax. Plenty of parking space which will cost 4 Euros for an entire day. If you are hungry I can really recommend the restaurant which is about 400 meters from the Externsteine. When you are planning a visit to the externsteine, I recommend to be there early because I noticed that it will get crowded during the afternoon. Highly recommended and when you are there, visit the "Hermannsdenkmal" which is about 8km away.

The Externsteine is a distinctive sandstone rock formation located in the Teutoburg Forest, near the town of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the Lippe district of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The formation is a tor consisting of several tall, narrow columns of rock which rise abruptly from the surrounding wooded hills. Discover this mysterious place in the middle of the old teuteburger forest. Beautiful layed next to a nice lake in the middle of the woods. In the forest around the stones you can find plenty of ways for a nice sunday afternoon walk. You can get there by a little walk from the near by parkinglot

Nice location in the middle of beautiful woods to hike. Well described and easy to find POI. Stunning rock formation with small caves and bridges connecting the single stones. Parking is at 4€, if you want to climb the rocks, you need to pay another 4€ p.p., last entrance was at 5:30pm. You can visit the area around stones with a wheelchair. There is a small kiosk and a restaurant close by the parking lot.

It’s beautiful place to see if you live nearby. But I wouldn’t recommend it to drive just to see this. As soon as you enter the parking, you can see the stones. There are walking routes around but nothing special to see.. tickets to the top costs 3€ but it is not worth to spend money on it.

A bunch of odd sand stone rocks standing at the side of the forest. A nice place to visit for some time Or at the time of hiking. No shops for food nearby and parking is little far from these rocks. A beautiful place inside the lap of mother nature is amazing. Hiking inside the forest around this place gives an amazing experience. January 2024: you need a 4 euros ticket (adult) if you want to climb or hike to the top of the rocks.

It was really an interesting and nice to see place belongings from 70 million years ago. There are alternative walking paths around that place so I advise you to take different ones while going there and return back. There's an entrance fee of 4 euro/person if you would like to go upstairs to the top of the stones. Stairs are safe to use with railings to hold.

(Translated by Google) Parking at the Externsteinen costs € 4 per car and € 3.50 per motorcycle. A short walk and a minting station later you are already in front of the imposing external stones. If you walk between them and keep to the left, go up the stairs and then follow the hiking trail for a while, you can have a nice view of the area on one of the smaller stones. This is still possible now, despite the closure of the two main stairs. Is also free of charge. The regular opening times can be seen on one of the photos.

(Translated by Google) Impressive natural monument that you should visit if you are in the area. Well-kept paths and plenty of seating. Unfortunately, the ascent Corona was now blocked in December. It is also advisable to bring some time with you and to hike a bit in the area to get different angles of the rocks. A deduction because I find a € 4 parking fee and then € 1 for public toilets not entirely justified. Especially since the Hermansdenkmal is practically "around the corner" and a visit recommendation is paid for the same again.

I can only highly recommend going to this place. You need 2 3 hours to explore the area if you are not following any hiking trail. This is accesses easily by public transport. Ticket to the top will cost 4 Euro for adults. It is better to buy a combi ticket with Herman Denkmal. Both places are easily doable in a day trip.

Nice site to visit if you are in the area. Interesting to have seen it. Not a place you would return to. Be aware that typical Germany, parking can only be paid by cash. So you have to get to town to find an ATM first. Not very tourist friendly.

The place is a wonderful park with the 40m high boulders dominating the small lake. Kilometers of easy hiking paths surround the rocks. You can freely visit the park (parking fee is 4 € - if there is a ling queue at the vending machine, you find another one just at the exit of the parking lot, this can save you tons of time when leaving) without climbing the stairs to the rocks themselves (entry 3€ for adults). Lovely trails through the woods and alongside the small lake and a large meadow to relax and picknick. 10km to the Herrmannsdenkmal, another well-known landmark. Bring your own food or visit the fine restaurant Felsenwirt near the entrance/exit. Dogs are welcome, too.

Dogs are welcome, there are kilometers of easily accessible hiking trails around the site. Play equipment for children can also be found. Pretty impressive if you like big rocks, nature or history. Not as spiritual anymore here because of the link with the Nazi regime. Still very relaxed feeling. In the summer the Extersteine will also be open again, because of Corona and I think the steps were closed because of the risk of slipping, but we could also take a great walk around and admire nature.

Impressive! They look really great and in the evening, right before the sunset some guy sitting in one of the niches or an old door, looking onto the lake, started playing flute. It was nice and produced a special medieval mood)) additionally there is a nice park there so there is enough place to have a walk. Many people come there with dogs (including us) and go upstairs with them. But its only possible if the dog is small and can walk on extremely high stairs partly made of metal pipes - so its slippery. The parking is capacious and costs only 4 € even if you stay there whole day.

Its a hidden gem on border of North Rhine-Westphalia. Entry fee for an adult is 4€ and 1€ for kid. Pets are not allowed on top. There are steep staircase to reach to the top. Its also a hiking area so you can choose for family outing also. There is one pillar in the jungle which we missed just like this one. Its 200 m away from main site.

AAAAAAAWESOME: 17 MILLION YEARS OLD STONE FORMATION. Really impressive. And go to information center on the right when you are entering the area. Interesting there. And wear hiking shoes if you want to do the way around the lake and walk up and down. It's a walk in the woods, so many stones, roots aso.

Really beautiful hiking paths through the forest, very dog friendly. You can sit down and have a picnic directly in front of the stones on a big grassy field. The food is reasonably priced and tastes good.

What a wonder of the natural world, the surroundings are stunning . You need a good head for heights and lung capacity to climb the stairs, but the view is beautiful and worth every step. At 4 euros per adult it's very good value indeed. The on site cafe was excellent, the food and service were above average

Must visite. It was a good experience, very calm and beautiful scene and it wasn't so full with people, good for a long walk 🚶‍♂️. With the help of stairs you can climb up the stones and enjoy the view from there. like I said, it's incredibly beautiful. Stairs are a bit uncomfortable and also very narrow and not the same.

It is a beautiful place for hiking or cycling. You can also plan picnic at this place, the area is quite big and has ample amount of space for kids to play. They have multiple parking places, it costs 4€. If you wish to climb these rocks then there is an entry fees of 4€.
