I really enjoyed my stay here. The only complaint I can come up with is there aren't privacy curtains for the beds. Otherwise, it's all overwhelmingly positive. Lockers can store a 40L backpack, shower rooms are separate from the toilet rooms. The one common room table really helps people socialize. The vending machine prices are equivalent to nearby corner stores. It's the only hostel that doesn't mark up beverage prices. If you want to hang out with hostel guests, there is almost always a nightly activity. Quiet hours are enforced, but you can go up to the rooftop with a small group and none of the other guests can hear you if you keep your voice down. Myself and an Italian couple mainly kept to ourselves and went sightseeing and integrated with the locals, but also socialized with other guests on occasion. Within the first ten minutes of checking in the host said I should join everybody on an excursion to the night time water fountain show at KLCC. He has a pretty good instinct of why people are in KL. Also, the check in procedure after hours is pretty seamless. Lastly, you're very close to the metro station and Bukit Bintang which has some of the best late night eateries on the planet. I think staying here is why I have such a fond opinion of Kuala Lumpur. So many landmarks are within a one hour walking distance. Highly recommend this hostel!

Spent 3 nights here near Bukit Bintang. Great hostel with a great social vibe, nice big lockers too, comfy beds, well air conditioned. Quite a strange impression at first, above a shop, has a security gate which is good. Patrick is a good vibe, living in his 20’s again. ‘Bar crawl’ was a bit suspicious with its prices and only girls getting free drinks, i sense a bit of commission/ deals going on with the hostel and 2 bars. Overall great hostel though!

Patrick the owner is a lovely, funny man and is always a pleasure to be in his company. Hostel beds are nice and the whole hostel is very clean. There are two lovely cats which are very friendly also if that is your thing. There are some dumbells on the rooftop, and a lovely view of KL from the roof. Every other night Patrick organises an event, pub quiz/pub crawl/night market etc, and u can also get cheaper drink at the bars. The atmosphere at the hostel is very good, everyone is friends and is laughing together, and we all go out in a big group so it is much safer, although the city already seems fairly safe. Lots of shops, food options and activities nearby. Had probably the best or one of the best weeks of my life and cant wait to come back and bring some friends or my brother here. Would defo recommend, only regret is not staying for longer! 11/10 lots of love for the hostel and the people that work there ❤️

Nicely located hostel with friendly owner and staff. Mall and transport nearby. Check out the orange folder for things to do. It's nice that they hold events to encourage guests to mingle. The hostel Is clean enough although the rooms are a little basic. Even so, my stay was comfortable. Showers were good - tip to keep the water warm is to only turn it on 3/4. The cat was really cute.

Sunshine Bedz is an amazing hostel! The location is perfect and the hostel is very clean. The vibe is fantastic so it's easy to connect with other travellers and the staff and the owner are amazing. They organise fun activities like a pub crawl and really take care of their customers.

I've been coming to Sunshine Bedz for years and can't recommend it enough! The owner Patrick does an amazing job of bringing everyone together to socialize and the vibe is always super friendly. He and the staff also organize lots of social activities - pub crawl, trivia night, karaoke, group trips to the night markets and more. If you put even a little bit of effort in, it's impossible to be lonely here. I noticed few reviews complained about the volunteers, not being nice, but I found them lovely! They are really helpful and always ready with an extra blanket or whatever I've needed. And the place was consistently clean and organized. Plus you can't beat the location!!! Genuinely the best site in KL, right in the middle of the city center, malls, and food streets. Will be coming back for sure!

This is a great hostel with clean and comfortable amenities and really social atmosphere. I checked in after 5pm with no issue and found the staff to be very responsive. The staff provide free toast in the morning and coffee, tea, and water throughout the day. There is also a vending machine with soda and beer and a few different hangout locations. The main hangout spot has quiet hours starting at midnight but there is a rooftop open all night where we could drink and talk. One night I heard some drunk people making noise at 2am and they quickly got shut down which was nice to see! Overall I was able to get some good sleep and found it quieter than most hostels at night.

This is the liveliest, most social and hands down best hostel in Kuala Lumpur. Now do not expect the best shower experience or bed sheets of silk. The hostel's interior is simple but perfectly caters for its guests. There is no bar unfortunately but the owner of the hostel (Patrick, a hilarious guy for sure) will get you familiar with the whole surrounding of Bukit Bintang. Will come again for sure.

Had a really good time here. The hostel has a really nice atmosphere with a frequently used common area. The rooms are nice with good aircon which is a huge help in the heat, with a complimentary towel and breakfast. My friend was unfortunately ill while we were here, but when the owner found out he was nice enough to upgrade her to a private room for free where she could relax by herself which was a really nice gesture. They also have lots of local events in the evenings which they keep everyone up to date with in a group chat, so mingling with others is nice and easy if you're travelling solo. All round just a really cool place

Patrick, Yasmin, & Andrew we’re great. The backpacking volunteers during my stay there were super fun, sweet, and helpful. The location was pretty central - walking distance to five malls & the twin towers. A family mart and McDonald’s extremely close, but also shawarma places and more. “Compliment breakfast” is just toast… maybe just say complimentary toast for breakfast. Two cute kitties there. Pitchers of water for drinking purposes. Mini-pub crawl on Fridays where girls drink free until 11pm and quiz night on Monday’s. The blankets… are not ideal because they are so small and thin - I’m literally 4’11 and I was still struggling with it fitting my body at night - I know some people ended up asking for a second one. Lots of books and even guitars in the common area. It would be nicer if there were cozier options to sit for the common area. The beds are wooden and it’s incredibly rickety where the upstairs bunk people climb up and down. That being said, the mattress was comfy, the lockers were big, and each bed has its own electrical outlet and lamp. I’ve stayed here on two separate occasions and left with good memories and lots of new friends.

I was fooled by the great reviews. The hostel is not too bad, however, a bit overpriced for what you get. The location is the best part. It is also a very social hostel and it is easy to meet others. Though, it gets loud at night. In addition, the rooms are not good. They don't have an outside window, smell bad, and have carpet floors. The bathroom and showers are somewhat clean.

This hostel is a must stay in kuala Lumpur, Patrick goes out of his way to give everyone that's staying there the best experience, lots of opportunities to be social with many activities organized. Don't look anywhere else and don't be shy. Thanks again James & Sophia

I think I was a little misled by the amazing reviews, granted i’m over my youth hostels phase and will be willing to pay more for better facilities. The location is amazing, dead city center by the pavillion and close to bukit bintang mrt. The staff and patrick are awesome, despite me not being at the hostel much… Things i wish i knew before i booked as an old lady in her late 20s. - the room i was assigned had an ac that didnt really work, and no windows so there was not much airflow. Made sleeping difficult - the room was right next to the main gathering area which is basically a tv and a long table, it was pretty noisy and loud all the time which is great if you want to party and meet people but not great if you can hear everyone at every hour of the night - there was a cockroach crawling on the girl above me one night and none of us in the room could fall asleep after that…. -female shower and toilet area is open to construction site (like no door full exposed view). Also to get to there you have to walk past the long table/lounge where everyone is all the time So if you want a great deal in a great location and can bear the above, then definitely go here, it’s an amazing time and location. I’m just at an age where i’d pay for something a bit more luxurious, so this is the review for people like me

This is a decent place but the other travelers who come here make it an excellent stay as the social area and the rooftop with its amazing views make it really easy to talk to others, have fun, plan dinners and things to do during the day. However, the owner is weird, he puts so much effort in wanting to be hip that some of the stuff he says is borderline inappropriate. He also selectively enforces the rules based on who he likes or is nice to him. He also makes sure the bathrooms and dorm rooms are clean at least. The people visiting the place make it a highly worthwhile stay that I can recommend it.

I had the most amazing time at Sunshine Bedz. There’s something special to it. It’s a typical hostel with basic facilities but the vibe is different. Until now that I have travelled to many places, I still can’t find the same good, friendly vibes I had in Sunshine Bedz. It is where I met these amazing people who have become friends ♥️ we still meet til now. Thank you Patrick! You are an amazing host

Everything was perfect really. Patrick is so nice and helpful. You can always chill and chat in the common room + something social is planned every evening. The rooms are large with a locker big enough to fit a backpack for each bed. There is a girls bathroom and a boys bathroom, with a space to hang whatever needs to dry. The location is very central so you have a million things to do a few minutes away. You need your key card to leave the place so you never forget it :) and there’s always a house cat available for petting. Pro tip : don’t miss the rooftop

Very social and well maintained hostel in the very center of KL. Quiet at night and well isolated from the street noise despite its excellent (therefore noisy) location. The staff will go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable, with social events almost every night. Recommendations for improvement: - The rooftop terrace could be a gem but currently its full potential is not exploited (I think it was in construction) - AC in the rooms could be a few degrees higher ;) Would definitely stay there again !

This hostel simply has the best atmosphere of any hostel in KL. None other comes close, and I've tried quite a few. It's situated right in the centre of town and an 8 minute walk from bar street. It's great! My only grievance is the covers we get are just too damn small! I'm only 171cm or 5'7" and I still have to choose between having a cold chest or cold feet. Definitely ask for 2 sets of covers if you stay here.

Really lovely place to stay in KL. Amazing location, clean rooms and bathrooms. They organise events every other day like pub crawls and trips to the market which is a great way of making friends!! Only downside is the lack of privacy curtains.

Centrally located and high end budget accommodation. It's a social hostel and very easy to find others to explore the city with. I highly recommend being around for Wednesday's ladies night. It's the best time to party as a group there. The staff, I felt, were a little abrasive at time and pushy. I understand it's challenging with a revolving door of customers but exceptions should be made for tenants of 6 days or more.

Pros - Amazing location near monorail and metro, one of the volunteers Henri was very friendly and they have a nice rooftop with good views of the skyline Cons - My room was extremely cramped compared to what I’m used to staying at other hostels in SEA. Showers and toilets are very small. If you’re doing the bar crawl I would avoid the second bar they force you to and just stay at the first one.

Patrick and Andrew are exceptional. They care about the well-being of each traveller, they make you feel comfortable and facilitate your integration! They are also very respectful and make sure that people who want to rest can sleep peacefully. The common areas are very clean and the location is ideal, you can walk around easily! A very nice experience and I will come back without hesitation. Thank you for your hospitality!

Such a nice place to meet new people. The beds are great too, and breakfast is included in the price. The location is fantastic; you're in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, close to all the big malls, and right in front of the hostel you can find a metro line going anywhere you want. Rooms could be cleaner and a bit more well ventilated, but I was able to look past that because of the experience!

The hostel itself is really nice! Great place to meet other travellers and a bit a party hostel! But its quite enough to just have a good rest! The beds are really good as well as the other facilities! The only downside is the staff. During my stay they were not interested and really short in their answers! They could do much better and be more interested in their guest!

Came here on a solo trip after randomly booking a flight to KL. Turned up to Sunshine Bedz after struggling to find a room there (it's a very popular hostel, for a reason, so book ahead of time) and fortunately managed to snipe a cancellation. Everything about this hostel is fantastic and it is essentially your classic hostel; homely feel, friendly staff and a sense of safety. If you've travelled in non-chain hostels, you may understand what I mean. It's not your typical 'modern' hostel, but you have access to everything you need: air conditioning, laundry, lockers, showers, water and even coffee in the mornings (which is always a great thing to have as soon as you wake up). Sunshine Bedz is situated in the best part of Kuala Lumpur - Bukit Bintang, so you have access to all of the best food on your doorstep. The monorail and bus stop is just outside also and you can get pretty much anywhere. Staff are beyond friendly and make the best effort to welcome you, feel comfortable and sort out any issues you have. Patrick, Yasmine and Andrew were all fantastic. They're more than the people that work in the hostel, they make a genuine effort to chat to guests and that extra mile is what makes the hostel feel so safe and secure, as well as comfortable. If you're a solo-traveller, you will 100% meet others and there is a small area near the entrance where everyone congregates. Since it's not a party hostel, you are likely to find people who are willing to help you plan out trips, give you ideas and just have a bit of a laugh. It's also chilled out, so you don't have to worry about being woken up by someone stumbling around in the dark at 3am. The entire hostel is cleaned daily, I had no issues with anything being dirty and you can see the staff cleaning during the day, so you know you're going to feel fresh in the mornings. The linen is even washed with the most thorough cleaning products, so it's completely free from anything that might wriggle around in the night. I have zero complaints about Sunshine Bedz and only commendations. It's an actual hostel, not a hotel posing as one, and that is what makes it fantastic. Thank you so much!

Mixed feelings. Great sociable people, with literally the ugliest Hostel I have booked. I only booked hostels within a certain price range, and comparing from that, I was hoping to see a bit better-looking accommodation. Downsides: 1) ladies bathroom is located right beside their open wide fire exit stairs. You could see construction on going right across the street when you do your toothbrush. No shower heater as well. 2) and, you have to pass the reception, common table/area/kitchenette each time you have to go to the lady's bathroom. Poor layout of floor plan. Positives: 1) Location. It is in the middle of everything. Bukit Bintang Mrt Station is just right outside. Lots of convenient stores around. 2) Reliable internet connection for those working remotely. 3) Again, great social atmosphere.

This clean, social hostel is located in the busiest part of Kuala Lumpur, right next to the Bukit Bintang station. The hostel is very clean, has air-conditioning in the rooms, and is hosted by friendly staff who are very accommodating. They lend you towels for the showers which are very good, and have free soap. I felt very safe and comfortable sleeping there, however, if you value privacy, this hostel does not provide it, since the beds do not have curtains. It has plenty to do, with guitars, board games, cards, etc. it also had a great view of the skyline in the balcony/smoking area. In the mornings, they provide toast with butter, jam or peanut butter, and they always have free coffee or tea. In the evenings there were always events going on, like pub quiz's or going to a bar with free drinks until a certain time, which you can see on the whatsapp group. Overall, the hostel is a great hostel for socialising, however, I personally felt like the social areas loomed awkwardness over the situation, and some of the people who stayed there when I was there were obnoxious, and I felt like I could have gone to a cheaper hostel that did not provide breakfast, and get a nicer cheaper breakfast elsewhere.

The hotel is placed in amazing location. Close to everything. Extremely easy access to public transport, the staff is very helpful and has a lot of advice for travellers of all kinds as well as folders to help you make future travelling plans. Rooms have AC and are well kept. Beds aren't squeaky and even though it's in city centre it's quiet at night. Toilets are gender separated, while rooms can be chosen according to preference. My only (-)'s were pillows which are extremely flat and feel like nothing under your head what causes a bit of neck pain (I didn't ask for extra pillow, maybe it's possible to do so). The mattress is quite hard and personally I didn't really like it.

Definitely the BEST HOSTEL I've ever been to! I was supposed to stay in KL only for 3 nights and ended up extended every day as I liked it so much. The staff is AMAZING, so kind, helpful and always there to help if you need anything. The dorms and showers are always really clean and the common area are really nice to chill. Sunshine Bedz really felt like home and it was so nice to have a break there after travelling for 4 months. Also this is THE place to stay if you want to meet people, but the hostel is still calm and not too loud like party hostels I have already been at. Definitely go to the pubcrawls and Quizz nights! Would definitely recommend staying here!!!

We loved everything about this hostel, it’s honestly just awesome :) the location is absolutely perfect, it’s close to the main attractions, there’s bus/tram/tube stops just next to the hostel, a food street and bar area are in close proximity, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, there are plenty bathrooms and they’re clean, a small basic breakfast is included, there’s a super social atmosphere and they organise really fun events! But most importantly: the people owning and working at the hostel are absolutely amazing! Yasmin is probably the friendliest and most welcoming person I know. Thanks Patrick for making this stay amazing. I would recommend this hostel to everyone!

Outstanding hostel! Facilities are great and location couldn’t be better, but the greatest highlight is the staff, they are some of the kindest and most friendly people I’ve ever met. Also there is an amazing atmosphere and got to meet a lot of nice people in only 4 days. Don’t miss the Wednesday pub crawl!

Really posh people in this place, atmosphere was overall ok but definitely some Brit’s with bad attitudes and some sticky fingered dutchies. Good location, beds are really small literally sleeping on the frame of the bed. Owners are nice, fast and lose with the rules. No a/c in public room. I’d book again for sure!

Looking for a hostel that ticks all the boxes and encourages people to be social? Look no further. I stayed here twice over the Christmas and new year period. Great hostel with an incredible atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and it is super easy to meet people/make friends. The staff are also super friendly and helpful. There is lots of useful information for tours and destinations. The location is super central and most attractions, restaurants, bars and shopping centres are within walking distance. Really recommend this place. Patrick (the owner) is super fun and showed us bar street.

Post covid review: The best hostel in Asia. Clean, quiet, and plenty of space to work. There is a giant common room for people to come together and share meals and get to hang out/become friends. Regular pub crawls and activities in the city. For the price and location, you couldn’t find a more comfortable, social, and central place. 10/10

I love Sunshine Bedz and always look forward to my time there! I have stayed there about 8 times or so during my travels in 2018-2020 and now 2023! I have traveled to 30+ countries, staying in hostels in most of them, and sunshine bedz is definitely in the top 3 hostels I’ve ever stayed! This hostel has the perfect location! Anything you can possibly need is close by or connected via public transport. The monorail and train lines are ride outside and the free KL buses have a stop just down the street. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. This hostel is definitely a great place to meet people as long as you get out there in the main area and start talking to others. I am still in touch with a lot of the people I have met years ago at this hostel. I will never stay anywhere else when I’m in KL! Thank you Sunshine Bedz!!!

NIGHTMARE! My stay at sunshine bedz originally started off well. The room was basic but was clean and had what I needed such as a locker And air con. I picked this hostel mainly for its location, which is perfect and definitely a major benefit of staying here. However, on the night of the mini pub crawl (which many guests participate in) a girl in my dorm was incredibly drunk, which led to endangering herself and others in the hostel. I did not attend the event and so I was in the dorm on her return. No guest should have to deal with the events that occurred, furthermore management where not available at all in times of desperate need. Although we tried the emergency number in the reception, this was unavailable, leaving myself and another girl to stay awake all night to ensure her safety. One of the volunteers at the hostel was incredibly helpful during one incident, however as more events unfolded, it became increasingly more dangerous and I find it incredibly irresponsible how a bar crawl with free drinks can be held without having a senior member of staff available all night and with first aid training. I did not sleep and my stay was severely disrupted as a result. I understand that scenarios like this are often a rarity, and may stay was otherwise fine but I think it is crucial that the safety of guests is priority if ever such events occur. I was offered a complimentary stay as compensation but I will not be returning to this hostel. A refund was not provided and I think this is disgusting, given I ended up doing their job, caring/cleaning and ensuring guests welfare! Furthermore, the girl was able to stay in the hostel and was not removed after these events. Luckily it was my last night in the hostel and so was thankful to leave, however other members of the dorm had to move into another dorm to feel more comfortable, which I think is unfair. No senior staff are available between the hours of 5pm and 8am so if anything happens, you are left to your own devices. Good luck!
