Interesting spiritual experience. You can climb the stairs and get to the temple at the top where you'll have monks welcoming you for a prayer. Be careful about the monkeys, they are not that nice. There is a museum on the ground floor as well.

Beautiful, spectacular and one heck of a climb. Lots of monkeys, please tread carefully. I went in the evening about 4pm so it wasn't hot, quite cool and was a lovely climb up 272 steps. Probably won't do it again but definitely something to do at least once in your lifetime.

We visited during weekday so it wasn’t as crowded. There is a huge golden Buddha statue. And 272 colorful steps. It also has a huge collection of deity statues. There are some animals along the way. So be aware if you are not comfortable. There is a monkey mom and a child that seems to be living there and is around all the time. There were also cats and birds around.

Unique religious place. A must visit for tourists. For females, we were required to dress decently or else you can buy a cover up just before you start climbing up the stairs for RM12. Weather can get very hot even in the morning so I would suggest to go there as early as possible.

My all time favourite devotional place and give peace of mind. Besides praying and visiting sightseeing like Cave Villa, naughty Monkeys are captivating attractions there. Most of monkeys there are playfull but be careful with your belongings especially food items, they tend to steal 😉

We took train to this place. Easy approachable by public transportation. You will meet a lot of monkeys 🙈. Make sure you don't leave any belongings and food behind. Remember to bring water. An interesting place. You walk all the way up 275 stairs and you will see 2 temples into the cave. The view is also nice. There are many tourists, so arrive here early if you can. If you are a lady, don't wear any short, you will be asked to put on blanket around your waist before going up.

Gorgeous cave with beautiful surrounding, it's amazing how much work and dedication were put together to make a site of worship for its followers. It's far from city center but definitely worse visiting, there are different ways to get there, we took taxi from our hotel and driver was more than happy to wait for us to get a second fare (apparently sometimes is hard to find a cab during rush hours). While you're there be aware of monkeys, don't leave phones, small camera or other belonging away from yourself, they're fast, they grab things even plastic bags from people and run away. Make sure you don't give up, climb all the steps, inside the cave is huge and beautiful. If you decide to go inside the temple.

Must have for tourist when in KL. Located 10km out of town, reachable by public transportation or grab. 275 steps with colorful staircase seem not too hard, all ages managed to get to the top. Recommendation to go on early morning if you want to take good photo and less crowded.

Really interesting Indian temples. It's not just a touristy place, but an actual place of worship with visiting devotees. Don't miss climbing up the stairs to the top inside the caves (wear comfortable shoes).

Batu caves is an amazing place. It's not just a temple, it's a symbol of Malaysia and what it represents. Parking is rm2, toilet is rm0.50, but visiting the temples themselves is free. Dress code for men, shorts and shirt. Women, please wear shirts and to cover the knees and ankles. Sarongs to rent readily available for rm15. Steps are steep, so not accessible for anyone walking impaired. Bird feeding grain available for a few. Bananas and fruit available to buy to feed the monkeys. Please do not hold or grab the monkeys. Although wild, they are used to visitors and will freely walk amongst visitors. Photo taking is encouraged. Toilets not available at the temples and only available at the base. Toilets are very clean and well kept. Best to visit early morning before 9am for good weather and views. Do not visit after 5pm or you will be affected by the bad traffic .

Batu Caves is a mesmerizing gem that seamlessly blends natural wonders with cultural richness. The towering limestone caves provide a majestic setting for the vibrant Hindu temples, creating a visual spectacle that's both awe-inspiring and spiritually significant. The climb up the stairs, though challenging, rewards visitors with panoramic views and a sense of achievement. The intricate details of the shrines inside the caves offer a glimpse into Malaysia's diverse religious heritage. While crowds can be a drawback, the overall experience is unforgettable, making Batu Caves a must-visit destination for those seeking a harmonious blend of nature and culture.

This is a really nice place. There are more than 200 steps and may be. 50 more steps inside. The view and inside cave is great. The coconut water was refreshing. I was told that the temple gets closed by 1pm.

I enjoyed climbing the steps the most. The rest was rather underwhelming. The monkeys at the top made it somewhat interesting. The place could use some better cleaning. The temples around the caves are worth checking out. Not much else is around.

They could collect some entrance fees and keep the place cleaner. We had more desire to get out of there than curiosity to learn due to insanitary environment. The best part was the fearless monkeys, they approach a human without fear. When I reach out my bag to get my sunglasses out, they tries to see what is inside of my bag🤪 It was funny & cute❤️

It is a landmark in KL and attracts lots of tourist. Ladies needs to cover their leg and those wear shorts will be denied entry, unless they buy a piece of clothes at the foot of the hill (or stalls nearby) and cover up. Climb took forever (for the not so physically fit like me) but once on top, one will be rewarded with a big cool cave with a couple of Hindu shrines inside. Some parts where the wind flow was very cooling. The climb down looks easy but can be quite tricky. For transport to Batu, it is not advisable to take the train because the frequency is low and the wait for the next train can be up to an hour.

It was a fine experience. It's always very busy and touristy. You'll find a lot of Monkeys on your way. Make sure you keep your belongings safe. There are a lot of stairs if you want to climb. It can give you a normal city view, not that much nice, but a good one. There are a couple of active temples there. The caves themselves are nice and give you a majestic vibe. There's one temple at the start and another one after climbing a few more stairs. It's always so humid, so take water bottles with you. There are a lot of shops around too but they are a bit more expensive than regular shops.

I recommend the caves as a nice alternative. Be aware my female friends, you can not wear shorts or short skirts. Not to worry they sell cheap sarongs at the entrance. There are also many monkeys running up and down the stairs. I half expected this to be an mall inside this cave. Although there is a couple of souvenir shops there. The steps can be slippery so be careful. This is a must place to visit, will not be disappointed.

We went there at 19:00 as it was less hotter than throughout the day. At that hour we didn’t meet any monkeys. The ground temples look amazing and are clean, while the stairs and the cave have quite alot of litter around. We had no problem getting in the caves while wearing knee long shorts.

Beautiful place to visit. A short drive or train out of downtown KL, and you’ll arrive at Batu caves. It’s an incredible natural beauty with cave ceilings that tower way above. The colorful steps and golden statue are the highlights. It's a good tourist attraction. On the foot hill there's a well maintained Hindu temple in South Indian culture. The cave also spectacular. Prepare your stamina to climb up top. And beware of monkeys as they are ready to steal your food and drink.

Beautiful 400-million year old limestone formations, with colourful sacred Hindu shrines built inside. The 42.7m Lord Murugan statue is stunning. One of the highlights is feeding the families of monkeys and pigeons at the entrance! Absolutely worth a visit. The cave itself is quite small. If you're feeling adventurous, rock climbing routes are available all around the Batu Caves.

Stunning place! There are so many monkeys, and they’re adorable. There’s a cave at the top, and it’s incredible. Also, a mini souvenir shop in the cave. Make sure your bottoms are below the knee or you can choose to pay 15RM for a sarong. Otherwise, you can’t enter because it’s a temple. Recommend this gorgeous place!

Truly, the beauty of colours. Batu Caves is a place to visit and experience what the Hindi temples are. A huge bronze statue greets you at the entrance. The number of stairs to the upper part is quite steep but not scary to climb. It’s great to climb up there to witness the remarkable cave sites. Usually, there are places one cannot enter with their footwear. The Hindus worship at some locations, wash themselves before entering, and ladies don’t wear shorts or skinny pants. Another isolated area with a large fish ponds, birds, and a water fall. Those are quite picturesque. It costs MYR 5 to enter there. You can also pay to take pics with parrots 🦜 and snakes🐍😱.

Beautiful place to visit. The monkeys don’t snatch things so it’s fine. For females who are wearing shorts, you are required to rent their sarong at RM5 at the left side at base of the stairs. When you come back down, they will refund u RM2. I visited in the morning, so the crowd was not bad. There was still a crowd but it’s fine.

I love this place! This is a sacred cave so remember to wear proper clothes. If accidentally you wear shorts or mini skirts, you can rent a sarong/batik there for a very low cost. Remember to respect the place. You will gonna love the experience of walking ontop of 200+ staircase going to the cave. Be mindful of the monkeys. Many of them are friendly and loves to take photos, while some others might grab your food 🤣🤣🤣

Batu Caves (named for the Sungai Batu - Batu River which flows nearby), one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions, is a limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. Located in Gombak - Selango, approximately 12 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur, this more-than-100-year-old temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it. Incorporated with interior limestone formations said to be around 400 million years old, the temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindu. The caves were little-known except to local residents until 1878, when the American naturalist William Temple Hornaday revealed their existence to the wider world. Then, K. Thamboosamy Pillay, a leader of the Tamil Hindu community in Malaya (as the region was then called), built a temple within the caves in 1891. It is said that he took inspiration from the similarity in shape of the cave entrance to the tip of the vel, or spear, traditionally wielded by the deity Murugan. Thaipusam, the Tamil Hindu festival devoted to Murugan, was first celebrated on the site in 1892 and is now a major event that attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims annually. A colossal gold-painted statue of Murugan, made from reinforced concrete and 42.7 metres in height, stands near the base of a flight of 272 concrete colour-painted steps (originally built by wood steps in 1920). As visitors climb the steps, they are frequently accosted by macaques begging aggressively for food. At the top of the steps is the entrance to the largest cave, called Cathedral Cave or Temple Cave. Within it is the largest of several temples on the site. At a lower level on the flight of steps is Dark Cave, which is sometimes closed to visitors. Other caves lie still closer to the base of the steps. Ramayana Cave has an entrance marked with a statue of the monkey god Hanuman, hero of the Indian epic poem Ramayana. Cathedral Cave houses several Hindu shrines beneath its 100-metre-high arched ceiling. At the foot of Batu Hill are two other cave temples – the Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave – which houses numerous Hindu statues and paintings. * Photos courtesy of Internet and Facebook. Thanks!

Interesting cave and temple, although not must to experience except for climbing around 300stairs to get to the top. Lot of monkeys on the way, although they wont do anything and happily let you go your way. People interested in performing prayers can do at the top. They also have some shops and restaurants serving authentic local food.

Very beautiful place to visit in Kuala Lumpur. The highlights here are the colorful steps and the huge Golden statue. There are monkeys everywhere - be careful because they can take your food or drink. It's better to visit this place during the morning to avoid crowds. The steps to the top are 272. I highly recommend this place!

This is the one place all Indians visiting Malaysia will go to. It's worth the hype. It's a long flight of stairs before you reach the top of the temple. Beware of monkeys that snatch anything their hands grasps, especially your mobile phones and sunglasses. You'll end up spending a good 3-4 hours here.

Feeding the monkeys and pigeons was the highlight for us in this trip. If you visit the bird zone , ensure to wear a mask. Such a culturally rich area. I wish they put an effort to keeping the place clean. For such a. Large number of visitors and patrons, there is little to no attention to keeping the place clean. Attention to the temple surrounding areas and overall ambience would do it a great favour. Despite all that, I think it's a signature Must see in KL.

It's a good tourist attraction. On the foot hill there's a well maintained Hindu temple in South Indian culture. Soothing. Serene. Steps should be climbed slowly. When you climb the steps uphill, you reach a few caves which have one good temple and a few other idols of Hindu Gods. The place is well kept. Clean. Small souvenirs can be purchased from the street vendors on the base . Parking facility is good. People in general are friendly.

The picture of the giant yellow statue with the long flight of stairs serves really as a clickbait but in reality it can be bit of a let down especially if it is covered with scaffolding. But the statue is definitely huge with so much gold paint on that looking at it in bright sunlight can temporarily blind you. And the caves behind are the star of the show unless you're there for religious reasons. This is actually a network of caves and there are proper tours available for educational trips if you want to dig deeper after going higher. Inside you'll see some rare plants that grow in such dark environment without any natural light and bats 🦇 (which you wouldn't wanna see nowadays) and outside there are some criminal grade gangster monkeys that run the whole mafia by collecting tax from every tourist.

In fact, this place is a temple that is located on top of a mountain and in a cave. It is located on the top of a very large statue that is very high.To reach the cave you have to climb a lot of stairs. The view from the top of the stairs is very beautiful. When you enter the cave it is a unique experience. The light that enters from the sky and the gap above the cave and breaks through the darkness is very beautiful.☀️☀️☀️ Really watch out for monkeys along the way because they love to steal your belongings!🐒🐒

Great tourist attraction either for its magnificent limestone outcrop complexes or Hindu temples and shrines. There are no entry fees to the main temple that is 272 stairs away from the horizon. The floor of the main temple could be wet and slippery, but the authority is trying their best to keep everyone safe. Parking was easy and cheap (RM 2 per entry). Hopefully, this place can get even more organised and tidy-up in the future.

The (free) caves are of course an amazing natural beauty but I felt that it also being a temple with active services makes it more of a temple visit than a natural wonder. Still, it's impressive and of geological significance. The stairs are easily manageable if you're basically mobile, so don't let that put you off. Go early (7:30am) before it gets too hot or too busy. You can easily spend 1h30 there, and then visit the caves next door (RM10). Both are easily reachable by train or Grab.

I recommend finding out the traffic situation in advance, because arriving can be a nightmare. It took us over 1.5 hours to travel a few kilometers by car before getting 400 meters away from front gate. There are no parking spaces and there can be too many people for the facilities. Special and good looking place but dirty.

It's a beautiful sight to visit but it exhausts you a lot (if you're gonna climb the stairs but why won't you?) A lot of pigeons and monkeys. Remember to bring enough shades and water. More recommended to visit in the morning. The only problem is the pungent sewage on the way to the cave.

(Translated by Google) Batu Cave About 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur is a limestone cave consisting of three major caverns and several small caves with the legend of the Murgan god of the whitedus. Next to the huge statue of Murgan God built in 2006 in the parking lot, the 272 steep stairs that lead to the central cave are composed of 3 cells, representing the past, present and future. The central cave is where the white head temple is located, and various white head gods are enshrined inside the cave, and at the end of the cave, a large, small hole in the ceiling provides natural light to add a mystery. Batu Caves, Malaysia. I was visited in 2016. Since the height is much higher, you have to be careful. Inside the mountains you will see beautiful scenery. There are a lot of monkeys here so be careful with things. Anytime your mobile could be hijacked, ha ha ha, just kidding. Standing at 42.7 m (140 ft) high, the world's tallest statue of Murugan, a Hindu deity, is located outside Batu Caves. The statue, which cost approximately 24 million rupees, is made of 1550 cubic metres of concrete, 250 tonnes of steel bars and 300 litres of gold paint brought in from neighbouring Thailand. It's a cave by nature however but the reason i see is all the tamil thinks that place is there by the dawn of gods and kings they never understand it's a natural cave and some of the Hindus' have captured it and named by themselves. However the beauty of it i see is it's a cave in a city which is quite wonderful.

I loved this place. A few things you should know: 1) This is a temple, not just a tourist attraction. This means that you cannot wear revealing clothes because it’s disrespectful. You will be stopped and have to pay for a covering. 2)There are hundreds of monkeys. There are 4 sets of stairs you can take to the top. The outer sides have more monkeys. Give them space. Don’t bring around food or drinks they might want to take. They get pretty angry if you don’t share. 3) If you go around 12-2 like I did you may see some religious practices which is cool to see.

Nice place but the authority should start taken more action to protect it. I understand that since there is no entrance fee, they lack that one source of funding for refurbish the place but the place worth more than that. Also, no one is banning visitors from feeding the wildlife. Monkeys are everywhere and people feed them with all types of food even though that it is not good for them, and they started to litter everywhere

"Experience Malaysia, Truly Asia" The place is just so amazing! If you visit Malaysia, you should also visit here. You can feel the true culture of the country. The ambience, smell, view of the temple is just so unique. Its like entering a new world and being a part of it. There are doves you can feed and take picture, a lot of Statues of Buddha and more! Climb up a very high stairs going inside Batu Caves to enter the temple. It will be worth it! Just be careful with monkeys who loves to steal foods. You can enter temple but remember to remove your footwear.

A Cave complex which consists of shrines. Just outside of the main city so easy to reach. Can be crowded and has a huge car park. The main cave is free, but to visit other small caves, has to get a ticket. May need 1 to 2 hours to explore the place. Careful with monkeys.

The most impressive attraction around KL. Harmony of nature and religion ☯️ Enter is free. Don't be afraid monkeys, they are fed good there but feeling humans fear. Better to check train schedule - I stuck on the station for an hour and I'd prefer to use this time exploring caves

Visited on 14 August 2023: A nice place to visit but not a must-do in KL, Malaysia. Parking fee is RM$2 per entry for cars. Lots of pigeons and monkeys freely roaming around so be alert and be careful with your stuff. Newly completed toilet is available at RM0.50 per person. NO knee length skirts allowed (see photos). Be prepared to walk up the colour stairs which can be steep. We spent about 1-hour there. Enjoy 😊

Definitely worth going if you are visiting KL. the cave itself is spectacular, the temples are interesting. Lots of animals everywhere so the ground is a bit dirty, just how it is, so just be prepared. The steps are also quite steep so be careful. There is a dress code, women have to wear a long dress or trousers and cover their shoulders, bit men seem to be with just shorts and t-shirt.

Went to Batu caves about 30 years ago and 30 years from then, it still has the old charm and mystique from childhood. Besides being a popular tourist attraction, it is also a place of worship and for the pious followers. Take your time to walk up the 272 steps and be in awe as you stand above the entrance of the cave and look down to the sight of tourists, pigeons and monkeys.

What an amazing statue of Murugan! This place is so beautiful, and free of charge. Remember to cover your shoulders and knees when visiting a Hindu temple. There are heaps of monkeys around, try to keep your water bottles and anything you carry away from them.

Beautiful place to visit. The colorful steps and golden statue are the highlights. The cave also spectacular. Prepare your stamina to climb up top. And beware of monkeys as they are ready to steal your food and drink.

A short drive or train out of downtown KL, and you’ll arrive at Batu caves. It’s an incredible natural beauty with cave ceilings that tower way above. The staircase is remarkable, colourful and also adventurous as local monkeys attempt to grab items from unsuspecting visitors

At the base of the hill are two more cave temples, Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave, both of which are full of Hindu statues and paintings. This complex was renovated and opened as the Cave Villa in 2008. Many of the shrines relate the story of Lord Murugan's victory over the demon Soorapadman. An audio tour is available to visitors.

The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). As early as 1860, Chinese settlers began excavating guano for fertilising their vegetable patches. However, they became famous only after the limestone hills were recorded by colonial authorities including Daly and Syers as well as American Naturalist, William Hornaday in 1878. Batu Caves was promoted as a place of worship by K. Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader. He was inspired by the vel-shaped entrance of the main cave and was inspired to dedicate a temple to Lord Murugan within the caves. In 1890, Pillai, who also founded the Sri Mahamariamman Temple, Kuala Lumpur, installed the murti (consecrated statue) of Sri Murugan Swami in what is today known as the Temple Cave. Since 1892, the Thaipusam festival in the Tamil month of Thai (which falls in late January/early February) has been celebrated there. Wooden steps up to the Temple Cave were built in 1920 and have since been replaced by 272 concrete steps. Of the various cave temples that comprise the site, the largest and best known is the Temple Cave, so named because it houses several Hindu shrines beneath its high vaulted ceiling. In August 2018 the 272 steps were painted in an extraordinary colour scheme, with each set of steps painted in a different range of colours. However, accusations were almost immediately made by the National Heritage Department for a breach of law requiring authorisation for renovations within 200 metres of a heritage site. The temple's management disputed their failure to receive authorisation.

It's a beautiful temple and suitable for tourists. it's a Hindu temple. The main God is murugan as u can see in the picture they have 43m gold colour murugan statue. They now have painted the stairs colourful u can see in picture and have light in stairs handle side. The entrance is free. You need pay only for some things such as oil lamp and others. You need to dress descent or traditional. If you are a women wear modern decent clothes you need to rent a scarf to go inside the temple it will cost you RM 5.

This is a trek, for sure. Make sure you're adequately prepared to walk all the way up and down! Someone was not prepared and collapsed near the halfway point, so please drink lots of water and be prepared to stop and rest. Other than that, it's a beautiful place to visit. Beware that there are monkeys in the caves at the top, so watch your belongings carefully. It's a place that bustling and alive with activity and it's wonderful! If you're hungry, at the very bottom of the caves, there's lots of stalls filled with yummy Indian food and I highly recommend checking them out! Note: Visited prior to COVID, so things may be slightly different.

This is a must visit if you travel to Kuala Lumpur. While it's not quick, it is easy to get here from the city as well. You just go to the Sentral station and get a ticket to batu caves. It takes about a half hour to get there and the train was going every half hour when I was there. Batu Caves is also one of the most important Hindu shrines outside of India. While here, you can eat some of the best roti I've ever had, visit the temples within the caves, feed (and potentially get accosted by haha) the monkeys, and visit a completely pitch black cave while learning about the ecosystem within. A phenomenal tourist site. It is very busy.

Located less than an hour outside Kuala Lumpur, the Batu Caves complex consists of three main caves plus a series of smaller ones, most of them containing statues and 100-year-old shrines dedicated to Hindu gods. The main cave, known as Cathedral Cave, is at the top of a massive colorful staircase-make it all the way up the 272 steps, and you'll find a space decorated with statues, altars, and lights. At the bottom of the stairs, a 43-meter-tall gold statue of Lord Murugan welcomes visitors. Visitors are allowed to explore the caves on their own or can join a guided tour to learn more about the caves. During the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in January, thousands of people flock to the cave for the celebrations.

Majestic, Breathtaking.... It's a famous place for Hinduism prayer and curious tourists. Spacious enough to accommodate crowd provided it is not a festive season. 272 steps are a challenge for young kids and elderly people. The pigeons make this place more lively and fun. I wished the place is more well kept. Being a top tourist destination, they should maintain it like a 5 star destination. Few foreign tourists will miss this location when they visit Kuala Lumpur. Cleanliness is a must for worshippers and tourists.

Batu Caves is not only a stunning natural wonder, but also a deeply spiritual and colorful destination in Malaysia. The vibrant hues of the temple's exterior are a feast for the eyes and the climb up many steps can be a challenging but rewarding spiritual experience. The area is also home to friendly and mischievous monkeys, adding an element of playful fun to the visit.

Easy access by subway. The statue of the supreme warrior Lord Murugan is very magnificent. Batu Caves is one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. But to be honest, there’s not much to see there. And the government should improve the hygiene of the entrance area, and keep tourists from feeding monkeys with their own food.

Good place to visit. The colored stairs are a very nice touch but are not the cleanest or safest to climb. They are wet and with the monkeys around, have trash including banana peel on them. Be careful when you climb. Climbing those stairs takes a toll, go preferably on a relatively colder day with little humidity, and carry water.

We didn’t go up to the top because I wore dress needed to buy scarf to cover my legs because it’s too short 😆 We just took a picture instead and roam around. Bring water! If not, there are merchants selling refreshments outside the area as you walk in. Would advise early morning to avoid some of the heat. Will see beautiful structures, observe local culture, and see wildlife (monkeys, chickens, roosters, pigeons) up close while enjoying exercise going up the stairs. Not a bad way to spend an hour or so. Did have to pay half a ringgit to use restroom, just FYI

Batu Caves, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most visited tourist attractions. It is a limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. Located approximately 11 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur, this 100-year-old hindu temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it. Incorporated with interior limestone formations said to be around 400 million years old, the temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus. The best experience begins with the effort of climbing colourful 272 steps to reach to top of the caves! Tips: Decent attire preferred, no shoes allowed (wear something comfy), beware of monkeys!😉 Batu Caves ~ Beauty of Colours ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Batu Caves was my favourite place I’ve visited while in Kuala Lumpur. Very easy access by public transport - computer train, comfortable and cheap. This complex of Hindu temples is as far as I know the most visited outside India itself. Several caves were transformed to places of worship where many people coming to pray and worship Hindu gods. Spiritual but also very interesting visually and culturally! Very colourful stairs leading to main cave and more small entrances with many monkeys which can be actually really interesting experience for some... Overall beautiful place to experience reach Hindu culture and indulge visually your senses! Must visit place when in Malaysia! Ps. Free entrance to most of the caves, you can pay to enter some places but In my opinion there is no need... enjoy!

Take note that if any lady wants to go up, make sure you wear long pants but not shorts or dress, they will sell you a clothes to cover up.

Batu Caves, one of Kuala Lumpur’s most frequented tourist attractions, is a limestone hill comprising three major caves and a number of smaller ones. Located approximately 11 kilometres to the north of Kuala Lumpur, this 100-year-old temple features idols and statues erected inside the main caves and around it. Incorporated with interior limestone formations said to be around 400 million years old, the temple is considered an important religious landmark by Hindus. Cathedral Cave – the largest and most popular cavern in Batu Caves – houses several Hindu shrines beneath its 100-metre-high arched ceiling. At the foot of Batu Hill are two other cave temples – the Art Gallery Cave and Museum Cave – which houses numerous Hindu statues and paintings.

Ever since it got refurbished with new paint, Batu Caves has been deemed the top instagram spot to be at. But there’s beauty way beyond those multi-coloured 272 steps. Marvel at the remarkable limestone caves and pay your respects at Hindu temples with beautiful statues. However, a little reminder to beware of those cheeky little monkeys on your way up!

Other than the Petronas Tower, Batu Cave has been the image of Kuala Lumpur after it was opened to the public. A perfect place offered to Hindu God with its remarkable colorful stairs and Tammed Monkeys. It also has the biggest of its kind an image of Hindu God at its entrance with a lot of remarkable and still functioning temples. Foods and Souvenirs as well as other services are available at the foot of the mountain. transportation: can be reached thru Railway stations, private cars or metered Taxi.

I first read of the Batu Caves in a book authored by a friend, Shaharin Yussof and was fascinated by its history. From being a cave it has become a place of worship for adherents of the Hindu faith. It is better to start of early in the morning and being relatively fit is a bonus as the 272 steps is certainly a killer for those not fit and with my visit I've seen some people starting at the time that I did and when I was done, they only reached the top - preferring to do a few steps and then take a break. But for those on a time frame, such luxuries are not considered. The inside of the caves reminded me very much of the Cango Caves in my native South Africa. I had also seen the 12 Apostles in Victoria, Australia so it was pretty learning some. I would have loved to do some exploring of the non-touristy sections, but did not have the time to contact the Malaysian Nature Society to get involved in their activities. It would be fascinating to be there with the Tamil Hindu festival of Taipusam. Beware of the monkeys as they playfully can grab you bag or camera. Have some banana's for them. For those appreciating history, take the time to read up about the caves - food stalls are aplenty and good food and nice fresh juice after the taxing stairs. It's cheaper to get there on your own by using the Metrorail or local bus service or with a local if you know anyone which we fortunately did know.

The Batu caves in Gombak, Selangor is a series of caves rising to an elevation of almost 100 m and housing countless Hindu shrines, temples and statues. The caves, formed in limestone believed to be around 400 million years old, take their name from the Sungai Batu river which flows nearby and from an adjoining village, also known as “Batu Caves”. The caves are a main tourist attraction in Malaysia, drawing 10.000 visitors annually for the Hindu Thaipusam festival (January/February). The Batu Cavesare only 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur (20 minutes by car) and 76 km from Kuala Lumpur International airport.

At the temple, you can see the place where you are actually praying nearby, and it seems that there are places where some tourists can participate. There were many monkeys and they seemed to be accustomed to people. The colorful stairs seem to be repainted to keep the color, and while there are tourists, some workers are repainting and I thought it would be difficult to keep the appearance of the World Heritage Site. .. Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu (Stone River), which flows past the hill. It is the tenth limestone hill from Ampang. Batu Caves is also the name of a nearby village. The cave is one of the most popular Tamil shrines outside India and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Batu Caves in short also referred as 10th Caves or Hill for Lord Muruga as there are six important holy shrines in India and four more in Malaysia. The three others in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca. Batu Caves was promoted as a place of worship by K. Thamboosamy Pillai, an Indian trader. He was inspired by the vel-shaped entrance of the main cave and was inspired to dedicate a temple to Lord Murugan within the caves. Vel is a divine javelin (spear) associated with Murugan, a War God is also known as Vēl Murugan . ... ("Victorious Vel, Courageous Vel") was a commonly used battle cry by ancient Tamil kings and soldiers.

Limestone caves formation are generally beautiful and this is one kind of place where nature meets culture and tradition. Definitely recommended for tourists. Its overcrowded during the festival. On other day, its normally fine (see picture). You can go here by taking the KTM train, no MRT. The area is actually much bigger but the temple cave probably is the only cave here suitable for tourist attraction. Othee caves are far away, inaccessible or just dangerous to go inside. Fun fact: there are more than 20 caves here.

  • 5/5 Shobinesh A. 2 years ago on Google
A different kind of spiritual vibes when entering Batu Caves . To see Lord Murugan himself is magnificent. 262 colourful steps awaits health and fit climbers to top cave temple . Must explore the dark cave to see wonderful natural lighting . As usual careful with belonging as quite mischievous monkey will grab . Don't hurt them by throwing bottles. They are natural habitats. They guard the temple. One can buy the nuts or banana to feed the 🐒..

This place is absolutely amazing with serene landscape and a magnificent statue standing on the backdrop of an age old mountain. Flock of pigeons would be good sight and entertainment for kids. They have huge parking space with entry fee of just RM 2. The flight of stairs to go up is pretty colorful and eye-catching. Be aware of the full length dress code to follow before moving in. There are many small temples all over the place, the view is breathtaking. The lamp stands all over temple and dhoop scent is really calm and soothing. Overall, the place is a must visit. You can wrap up whole place in one hour, it's upto you if you want to soak in with the vibe little longer. Suggest to try coconut water available in nearby shops for RM 5 to rehydrate in the cool breeze. FYI, the washroom is a downside.so try to avoid it. Evening times could hold you up in traffic, so try visiting in non peak hours.

It is full of monkeys and the best part is its location and must climb 330 stairs to get to the top of it. It is a Hindu temple but visited by most of the tourists.

It is indeed a historical and cultural site located in Selangor, Malaysia. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country and holds great significance for the Hindu community. Visiting Batu Caves allows you to experience the historical, cultural, and religious aspects of the site, as well as enjoy the natural beauty of the limestone formations.

Some of my friends were telling not to go there because it’s overrated and doesn’t worth but you know since you are that person who loves traveling and exploring you will not listen to them 😂 so I just went there with them and it was really great day there even though their opinion changed about it. It’s really amazing place to go there you will not regret at all and you have best of your life moments there. And yeah guys it’s free totally free😂

What one could say when you’re in Malaysia and got to know that there’s an Indian temple and that too such an amazing. The place is so amazing that you’ll love it to see the sculptures and all. Don’t worry about the stairs, it’s worth visiting the top of that place and you’ll be amazed to visit it. I would recommend to visit and love the moment.

Vibrant and colourful place. It’s a holy place for Hindu thus it is required to dress appropriately - they do ask women to hide their knees, and if you’re in shorts - you will be asked to buy a cloth to cover. Best time to visit - early morning on weekday (up until 8:30am). It’s when the place is not/less crowded and it’s not too hot either. It’s getting very crowded after. There are temples and a museum on the lower grounds as well. Climb the steps to the caves. Caves are not big but stunning. It can be quite hot and humid inside though - I recommend bringing some water with you. Inside there are also temples (some are free and for some you’ll need tickets if you want to go inside). Be careful with monkeys. People feed them but technically it’s not encouraged. Monkeys can bite and can follow you if they see that you have any food. There are a lot of monkeys and honestly it’s really fun looking at them. Monkeys appear closer to 9am (from what we noticed) when they wake up and when more people come to the caves. I only wish they cleaned this place more. Yes, monkeys make the mess, but if there were not that much trash around - there wouldn’t be so much mess.

Absolutely stunning place! You are greeted by a huge golden statue after which you can climb the roughly 270 colourful steps to enter the huge caves. On the way up you are accompanied by many enthousiastic monkeys climbing the stairs and the side of the caves. Once upstairs the caves and Hindu creatures are very impressive to see. It does get very hot climbing the stairs due to the hot and humid climate. This is definitely worth it! Entrance is completely free. Do note that women are required to cover legs and shoulders!

Crowded with tourists and drainage smelled terrible. Lack of proper crowd management so everyone was climbing up and down in every direction. It was well worth the climb though the scenery at the top was beautiful and there was greater ventilation at the top. Do take note to avoid wearing shorts for females as you will have to rent their sarongs there to climb the stairs.

Beautiful area. You can climb the staircase to look at the temple located inside the gorgeous limestone cave. The climb up is not for the weak. There are many shops selling local peacock feathers and Hindu idols. A couple good vegetarian restaurants too, but I suggest eating outside since they're a little more pricey. Not to mention, there are tons of monkeys and there's a stall as well, selling food that you can feed them with.

Beautiful place to see. You can easily reach by train from the city. If you want to avoid the tourist chaos it s better to go early around 8-8.30. This attraction is free And pay attention to the monkeys😁

Everyone goes there when in KL. So why not visit as well. Get a Grab car ride from the city. Only a few dollars. You can go up the stairs or not, but if you come this far minus we’ll go all the way. Stirs very steep so take your time and grab on to the handrails. Ladies at the bottom will screen at you if you have dress showing thighs. They want you to buy a scarf from them to cover up. It’s 3 dollars so just do it. Unique place good pictures. But you don’t need more than 10mins at the top.

Truly a great experience. Very scenic views of the caves and of the gigantic statue and the colored steps. Watch out for the monkeys all around, they will grab you if you have food or drinks visible. There were also some roosters and hens inside the caves.

I went here in a public holiday, and can see that they have improved a lot in cleaning trash but you still can see a little trash around the stair. - Plus point: it is easy to find the way to reach here by bus or train. - No entrance fee and don’t have to book in advance - But for ladies, you should go in long dress to be allow to enter the caves. - Be prepared mask if you are a sensitive person with smell since the atmosphere here is not really fresh. After all, here is a nice place to visit to know, but not really sure to come back

The huge golden statue and the colourful steps leading up to the cave make beautiful pictures. I came here early and it was already packed with tourists. It was an OK experience for me even though the place is a bit dirty. Tips for you ladies: cover your legs. Otherwise, you can't get in and have to buy a scarf. Be careful with your belongings cause you may encounter some naughty monkeys.

A captivating destination, known for its stunning limestone caves and Hindu temples. The enormous golden statue of Lord Murugan at the entrance is awe-inspiring. Climbing the 272 coloured steps to the main cave offers a rewarding experience with breathtaking views. Inside, the cave's cavernous chambers are filled with religious artifacts and the echoes of prayers. It's a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance, making it a must-visit attraction in Malaysia.

Beautiful place! Only spent about 30min here altogether to climb the stairs, see the cave and take some pictures. Ladies: you must have your knees covered otherwise you’ll have to buy a scarf when you get there if you want to go up the stairs.

This place is crowded every day, you might want to consider visiting it on weekdays. The train definitely is a good way to go there if you can use public transportation. Actually the stairs are a bit wet and narrow, it's not easy to climb so you might want to consider if you accompany with the elderly and kids

It was good visit. Got lucky and booked a cheap price for our Grab from KL city center. The colorful stairs were the main highlight of the visit. The free caves were nice but not much to see.

As I am aware is the biggest Hinduist temple outside India. Is quite an amazing place to visit, only the first view is quite impressive, and as you advance inside the caves you can see two more worship places. If you are lucky enough you will have the chance to see monkeys interacting with the people or just walking around. Great place to visit.

Great place to see shrine, colourful steps, huge caves and cheeky monkeys. Free, no ticket needed. Beware of monkeys with food and don’t get too close. Lots of stupid people who think they can stroke I wild animal.

Indian’s sacred place. Temples built inside the cave up on the top of the hill. Monkeys are seen everywhere along the hundreds of stairs up. Be careful of your foods and drinks.

Visited Batu Caves today, and it felt like the highlight of my Malaysia trip. Climbing over 200 stairs with playful monkeys was an adventure, especially as they cheekily grabbed food and posed for photos. The weather was perfect - rainy and exciting. The caves are stunning, and there's no entrance fee. Be cautious, the steps can be slippery, and monkeys might snatch your belongings! It’s a sacred place, so dress respectfully and remove shoes in prayer areas. Highly recommend visiting this incredible site! 🛐🐒🌦️🙏

Beautiful cultural place. There are a few flights of stairs inside the cave after the main climb up at the entrance. The cave was one of the largest I’ve been to. Was interesting to see the devotees in their places of worship inside the caves.

Ascend around 270 stairs to discover a captivating cave with a temple inside, providing a fascinating glimpse into Indian religious practices. The breathtaking cave is enhanced by the lively presence of monkeys, adding a delightful touch to your journey as they play comfortably alongside humans during the ascent.

We went here during the morning to avoid the blazing heat at noon. It was a unique experience. There were a lot of pheasants and monkeys in here, and it features a 272-step hike before reaching the main temple.

Batu Caves is an awe-inspiring cultural and natural wonder. The majestic limestone formations and the towering golden statue create a mesmerizing backdrop. Climbing the colorful staircase to the cave entrance is a unique experience, offering stunning views of the surroundings. The intricate cave temples within are not only spiritually significant but also showcase impressive Hindu art. The well-maintained site, along with friendly guides, enhances the overall visit, making Batu Caves a must-see destination for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking beauty.

Overall, not bad of an experience. We did notice there was an overwhelming amount of trash/debris surrounding the temple area and the monkeys run kinda rampit so beware of your belongings being taken by the monkeys. It was still a cool experience to see the cave and the Hindu shrines inside.

It is a not miss experience. Really easy ride on the train system out to the caves two minute walk even with a being very busy. It was easy to navigate and just beautiful watch for the monkeys. They will pick your pocket pick your hair pick her everything and the pigeons are there by the thousands.

A spiritual and stunning experience here. The priest at the Hindu temple blesses you with a vibhuti even if you may not be a Hindu. This truly speaks volume of the all embracing nature of the religion. Truly a magnificent experience 🙏
