I liked it very much. I never imagined that in a cemetery I would be able to admire so many works of art. Such a soothing place, huge and full of history, is worth a visit. There is even a map for visiting the famous tombs.

I don't know why I liked this place so much, but it was very peaceful to walk around the cemetery looking at all the amazing graves and monuments. It felt almost like an art gallery more than a cemetery. Worth a visit when you are in Milan.

The Monumental Cemetery in Milan is like an open air museum. The art with which the mausoleums and the sculptures that accompany them were built is soothed by their beauty. I visited this cemetery one summer day. The cemetery closed at 17.00, but I had not read the program at the entrance, so the sun was still high in the sky, I did not realize that I could be closed there. But the program was a program and had to be respected and probably no one detected my presence there, so I remained locked between the graves. Of course, I managed to jump the fence and leave, but I had already made a plan how to stay there.

Truly magnificent place. The resting place of numerous famous people, and home to an incredible collection of unique sculptures. The Jewish section is particularly beautiful, and underappreciated. Be quiet and considerate when visiting. This is not a playground, please show the appropriate respect.

What a magnificent place - definitely one of the most interesting ones in Milan. The statues and the atmosphere of the place are chilling. The only bad thing was that it seemed to me there were cars everywhere, but I get it's probably necessary for the cemetery to function. Again, it's a must see! Free entry.

A truly wonderful place that is 30 minutes north of Duomo Cathedral and is a pleasant escape from the busy city centre. Filled with stunning religious tombs, monuments and mausoleums, you can spend hours walking through the cemetery. I really recommend this place if you are visiting Milan and remember to bring water when the weather is hot. Plenty of shaded areas too which is nice.

Single-handedly the best cemetery I’ve been to in the world. Unique statues, huge tombs, photos on the gravestones in Italian tradition. Everything feels colossal!

Second most beautiful cemetery complex in Italy. Unbelievable sculptures, size and atmosphere. Speechless it’s an art museum more than cemetery. Multiple wonderful stones , what a beautiful resting place.

Impressive to see how cemetery can be full of art and if I may say 'life'. I didn't expect to like it but it was very artistic and expressive. Very unique place and a must visit when in Milan.

I never knew I would be interested in visiting a place like cemetery in Milan. It's richly laid with beautiful sculpture and way it has been maintained so well even after decades took me by surprise. We were shown in a small guided tour, how they are working on maintaining the sculptures.Do attend if you have time. Also check out the literature they have at their office desk. Would surely recommend. Keep 3-4 hours in hand to visit this entire place.

It's a very interesting landmark in Milano and it's really worth a visit. The most surprising is the crematory as they left the doors open for the visitors. If you want to escape the crowded places and to enjoy some unique sculptures, check this place out!

A different type of tourism haha. The place is so nice to visit, it is a open museum and a good to way to make people’s memories alive. Sometimes you feel like you are in a little city, almost like a condo, where people dispute who created the best building. You can spend hours and hours there, it got me surprised and amazed how death can be interpreted in tombs.

Visited this site September 2022. Visited the cemetery only after a fantastic tour--English Free Tour Milan sponsored by CITYWALKERS--with Marco, who brought this to our tour group's attention. His recommendation was, "If you really like architecture and sculpture...." and I knew I was adding a visit to my priorities. I spent the entire afternoon walking around, up and down rows and rows of mausoleums and monuments that were utterly stunning and beautiful. One can run around and test one's own knowledge of architectural periods, from Classical to Byzantine to Gothic to Baroque, etc. I highly recommend a visit for lovers of sculpture and architecture geeks. Make a visit to Cimitero Monumentale as high a priority as a visit to the Duomo.

With full respect to the souls reset at this place, it is really does not look like a cemetery. You feel that you are walking in a museum full of art and prefect touch. Some of the monuments reflect sad story while others are showing the joy beyond our life. It is amazing how the artists translated the life of several people resting in the cemetery. Highly recommended.

This was such a magical and unusual place! The buildings themselves are stunning, and you can find very known people buried here. What is more interested to do is to walk around the stunning pieces of art you can find everywhere, I will definitely go again to see it more

This place is the answer to "why should I visit a cemetery?". The Monumental Cemetery is famous for having many artistic tombs and monuments of the most important families in Milan, both historical and recent. Here illustrious names are buried in artistically important crypts. It is certainly among the top 3 things to see in Milan, dedicate an afternoon to it.

Cimitero Monumentale di Milano is visually stunning - a very beautiful and peaceful place that you can easily get lost in, trawling around for hours and enjoying its beauty. There's something wonderful to look at around every corner - and there's also free public bathrooms on site!

One of the most interesting and mesmerising places I’ve ever been to. A fascinating and srtiking place full of scuptures on top of tombs of important figures in Italian history. Each of them present pain, grief, sorrow, fear, love, sadness, mistery in its own way. We visited during the day, can’t even imagine being in here in the dark. This is a basically an open-air-museum with free entrance (didn’t get guided tour etc) which is a must-see in Milan. I would consider visiting again if I go to Milan again.

I stumbled upon this cemetery on my way to go shopping and I'm so glad I stopped. It's the most beautiful cemetery I've ever seen (though keep in mind, I'm American so the cemeteries I'm used to are not that impressive) and it's hard to express just how large the property is. There are so many beautiful monuments that it would take hours to see them all. It's very peaceful in the cemetery, so this is the perfect place to visit if you want to look at art and get away from the crowds. I found this description on one of the maps: "The scultures and buildings of the Monumental Cemetery allow us to experience the major events of the city's past, its artistic journey from realism and eclecticism of the late 19th century, through to art nouveau and symbolism of the early 20th century, and then on to the contemporary age, as if it were a real open air museum featuring all the major Italian artists." Hidden gem in Milan, and a must-visit. Highly recommend, especially since it's free!

The cemetery is really really cool. A great place to spend some time wandering in the shade of the tombs and trees. Really interesting mausoleums and gravestones. Honestly please go. However, beware: it closes at 18.00 and it really really closes at 18.00 and it doesn't care if you're still inside. We arrived at the gate at 18.02 and the gate was closed and everyone was gone. We had to call the emergency number (they only spoke Italian) and then eventually some guy came to open the gate for us. We were stuck with 5 people, so this seems to happen a lot. They do play an alarm to let you know they are closing, but we didn't know that that was what that meant. Really awesome visit though.

(Translated by Google) A very nice place. It's a cemetery, but you won't know you're in the cemetery. For a moment I thought I was walking around the art gallery. It goes without saying that there are amazing sculptures, most of them are religious depictions. If you look carefully, you can see that the artists tell many things from their symbols. If you are fond of plastic arts, it is definitely a place to see. Do not forget to pray to the dead or wish them to be at peace. (Original) Çok güzel bir yer. The cemetery is very spacious and contains the resting places of important figures. Each grave area has its own unique gallery of sculptures, both big and small, that create a truly remarkable visual experience. I had the opportunity to visit on a rainy morning, and the combination of the wet soil scent and the atmosphere of death provided an unforgettable experience. Some of the sculptures are truly astonishing and leave a lasting impression. Additional information: I went there two days in a row searching for the ashes of Umberto Eco. Unfortunately, although his ashes were cremated, there is no monument dedicated to him, so visitors cannot see his ashes. I asked the security and other visitors all day, but unfortunately, nobody seemed to be aware. If you don't know the exact location, it can be quite difficult to find a name among dozens of other monuments.

(Translated by Google) An open-air museum. Since my father brought me the first time in 1986, it is always fascinating to visit us. It relaxes me to walk among those stupendous tombstones, beautiful sculptures, tombs of prestigious and lesser-known families. What about the Famedio: without words. There are also many beautiful sections of the Jewish and non-Catholic cemetery. My favorite season for a visit is autumn: with all those beautiful colored leaves that gives an extraordinary charm to this beautiful cemetery. (Original) Un museo a cielo aperto.

It was inaugurated on January 22, 1876 to cremate the body of the silken industrialist philanthropist Alberto Keller who also donated a large sum for the construction of this Temple which his heirs subsequently donated to the City of Milan, in fact the inscription on the architrave reads : CREMATORY TEMPLE BY THE WILL OF THE NOBLE ALBERTO KELLER ERECTED AND DONATED TO THE CITY OF MILAN. Very interesting is the Cremation room which houses four very old crematory ovens built in 1896. As a very convinced cremationist of nineteen I recommend you to visit the Cemetery which deserves a lot and above all to pay particular attention to the Crematorium Temple, the first in the world! Molto interessante è la sala di Cremazione che ospita quattro forni crematori molto antichi costruiti nel 1896. (Translated by Google) One of the cemeteries of Milan. the Monumental project belongs to the architect Carlo Maciachini (1818-1899), built starting from 1864 in an eclectic style with Byzantine, Gothic and Romanesque references Since then the Monumental has gradually been enriched with a large number of classical and contemporary funerary art works, such as Greek temples, elaborate obelisks and other original works, including the reduced version of the Trajan's Column. For the very high artistic value of sculptures, tombs, funeral shrines and other works inside, it preserves real works of art in the open air !! In the most heartfelt and respectful silence, it is worth going to visit it. I visited the Cimitero Monumentale (Monumental Cemetery) early in the morning when they opened up and spent three hours roaming the grounds before heading over to the Basilica of St. Ambrose. I post a selection of my favorites, especially of some of the deliciously callipygous statues.

(Translated by Google) It is unrealistic to describe or tell it. The gravestones are very diverse. Almost every piece. It will take more than one hour to see everything. Trying to find world famous and famous surnames is useless, they are not here. But even with this, the design of the graves is simply outrageous.

I've never been in such a cemetery before. So many stories are told in the incredible sculptures, chapels, and other structures - grief, love, hope, regret, despair, peace, family, faith intermingled everywhere you look. You could spend days in there and not see it all. The architecture of the main structure is pretty amazing, too. We just wandered around and enjoyed the beauty and silence of the gardens. Gorgeous trees everywhere.
