(Translated by Google) Rating 9.5: Milan is a beautiful city and among its beauties we must include the beautiful Sforza castle, intact and rich in history: it welcomes you and embraces you, showing you, upon entering, numerous masterpieces. It is one of the largest castles in Europe with elegant shapes, with a 70 meters high tower, a Gothic-Renaissance structure. The first owner was Galeazzo II Visconti in the 4th century then after various events and its destruction, in the 15th century the new castle was erected by Francesco Sforza on the remains of a previous medieval fortification. Over the centuries it has undergone many transformations until the last restoration carried out between 1890 and 1905 by Luca Beltrami. It was one of the largest military fortifications in Europe. Today the castle is a museum, it houses important ancient remains of the city, the Pinacoteca, the Egyptian Museum and the Viscontee rooms. It is also an important exhibition venue. In summary, a visit is a must and I recommend it because it enriches our culture ☺️☺️☺️ (Original) Voto 9,5 : Milano é una città bellissima e tra le sue bellezze bisogna annoverare il castello sforzesco bello, intatto e ricco di storia è lì: ti accoglie e ti abbraccia mostrandoti, entrando, numerosi quadri capolavori.

I only was able to visit briefly but this is easily one of the best castles I have ever been to, a wonderful mix of art, history, fortifications and grandeur. I will be back to enjoy this more comprehensively. A must do if you're in Milan.

Absolutely beautiful architecture, looks stunning in the nighttime when lit up. Was filled with lots of historical artifacts and artwork, it’s a very well kept and the castle is in very good condition. Very historic with lots to see and do. It has a very nice museum. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re visiting Milan.

Visited this castle whilst in Milan. It is in a great central location. It is free to enter and walk into, but if you want to walk around the inside of the castle and see the exhibits then that is €5 or you can get a student ticket. You are not allowed to take large bags around the exhibits either and cannot take videos, only pictures. This is nice to look around and you can also pay for a translator earpiece it you want to listen to the history. There are some people trying to sell you roses and bracelets etc on the inside so be aware of them

Very cool place to walk around. We didn’t go in any of the museums because we didn’t have too long but you could easily spend a whole day here! Otherwise it is free to walk around. On Saturdays there is a huge market on the outskirts of the castle with bags, food, mulled wine, lots of trinkets, cooking items etc! Highly recommend.

This place is so stunning. I sat within the castle walls listening to live music from a stage that had been set up while sketching a picture. Truly a wonderful experience. Not going inside and instead walking around some of the most beautiful architecture I have ever seen will be free and well worth your time. There are also free toilets and a water refill on site which is a bonus.

Lovely castle to walk around or chill at. I personally loved the garden in the middle of the castle where you could sit out in the shade and enjoy the surrounding views. The museums have mazing pieces. There were some real surprising pieces of art. I paid 2 or 3 euros to get into all 14 unique parts of the castle. There's art varying from paintings to furniture to cloths and musical instruments. Definitely would recommend anyone to spend a few hours here.

It's a castle with 6 museums inside it, all accessible for 3 euros (for students) or 5 euros. If you don't wanna go inside the museums, you can still check the place out, the fountain in front of it, and the big beautiful installations outside. However if you got time, the museus are really worth the visit. There is a Michelangelo sculpture, ancient arts and weapons, the musical instruments museum, an Egyptian museum, and a few others to check. The bad thing is that most of the exhibitions only have texts in Italian, no translation for English.

A very nice castle and museum. There are many rooms, everybody will find something to like. You need to count with exhibition which takes at least 3 hours so if you hurry, you should check only items you are interested in. There is also a beautiful view from the top. If you take a bag with you, you can store it in a locker located downstairs (1 euro deposit - will be returned after you input the key back). After exhibition you can find a good place for rest outside. This place is also magical in the evening.

Building itself is visually interesting, but not original. However, there are several rather nice museums inside. I spent there about three interesting hours for 5 Eur, which is very good value. The biggest exhibit is one of the last Michelangelo statues, which is housed in its own exposition, but there is way more to see in the castle. Definitely recommended if you have some time to spent while visiting Milano.

The courtyards of the castle are free to visit. They offer a quieter green space and views of the castle walls in the busy city. There is also a mulberry arch in the first courtyard - brilliant idea to create shade in the summertime and a gardener's delight. The arches themselves are pretty in form. The ladders to prune the mulberries and to twine the branches around the structure are likely very high!

Amazing architecture! I spent less than an hour walking around and inside the walls but not inside the buildings because my shoes weren’t comfortable . But I’d recommend to spend more time tho because it’s really big and there is lots of places to see and walk in, out and around! It’s totally worth visiting if you are into architecture and history, just go prepared to walk a lot.

Absolutely gorgeous place! It's 100% worth it just for the outside parts. The complex is big, and the adjoining park offers a great relaxing spot and various drinks and foods to refresh you. Totally stunning for everyone, not just those interested in history! Also there are free toilets.

Sforzesco Castle is absolutely gorgeous, oh my god, while visiting you can somehow see and feel how ages full of history are hosted by the amazing and strong walls. It's like a portal, you have to see it. Chill atmosphere, i was at the beginning of the week, people where enjoying the place, some tourists but not overly crowded. Come here in the working days in the morning and you'll feel like you got the whole place for yourself . A nice bonus are some cats that are really cute 😍

A nice, large castle - not that spectacular on the outside but has some nice pieces of art inside, quite worth seeing. When you buy the museum tickets, make sure you ask what is open and what is not - we were not told that the Ancient Egypt and Prehistory parts were closed and the former one was why we even got the tickets. We found out when we wanted to enter that part of the museum.

The beauty of this historic place is you can simply walk in and enjoy the grounds. Or you can dig into the history of the structures, the area, the city, by visiting the pay portions. We had a guide walk us through a few years ago as part of a Milan walking tour and there was plenty to learn about and enjoy. Keep an eye out for the resident cats usually in the moats.

Amazing place, wonderful historical experience! There are three different museums in the place, all three dealing with history. Simply amazing, one is an ancient art museum that includes paintings and photos from different periods going back several years. The second is ancient objects, furniture, moving accessories and more, the third is the museum of ancient musical instruments. One ticket costs five euros and allows entry to the three museums. I really enjoyed it. You must visit there! There was no line at the entrance and there was no need to purchase a ticket in advance.

It's a lovely museum filled with great art, history and design that essentially runs the gamut from the early medieval to the 19th century. I am not often confused by layouts, but I was here. It's like 5 museums in one place, so they are not always attached to the next. There are elevators, but one must ask for assistance. I thoroughly enjoyed that visit and it is worth well over the €5 entry fee.

  • 5/5 Ariel S. 2 years ago on Google
Wonderful place to visit. You can see multiple areas in one ticket, and there's even more to see on the grounds. Well worth the time to go if you have about 3-4 hours in Milan.

Beautiful place to visit in Milan! The castle outdoors are free to enter and the tickets are sold only if you would like to enter the castle. The place is massive and has huge park. The area offers so many potential spots for pictures - both travel and portraits. One thing to be aware of when you visit the spot (basically all famous spots in Milan) is that there will be people with arm bands at the entrance and even indoors who try to tie those bands on you and demand money. I saw many of those guys at this castle. So be aware! Apart from that, this place is great to visit!

This a great place to unwind after a long day. The entrance inside the indoor courtyard is free every day till 20:00. (in the summer) It's very quiet even though there are usually a lot of people going through it. It's mosquito free!

Great castle. Lots to see and explore. The museum's are huge! Good value for money compared to other cities attractions. Great for a walk around even if you do not want to visit the paid museum's. There is surrounding gardens and a big historic peace arch, a small cafe and a few little souvenir stands, drinks stands. So you can also eat and drink here. The number 12 tram stops right outside so it's also easy to get to. We visited on a Saturday but it was not too crowded for a peak summer weekend day.

A wonderful collection of mini-exhibits within a castle! Much of the castle was restored after damage during WW2, but lots of original ceiling frescoes remain, and you can also get up onto the ramparts to really explore the fortress. The cafe in the central courtyard has very fair prices for a museum cafe! Bring a 1 euro coin for a locker if you have luggage/bags with you - the coin is returned when you leave. I'd recommend visiting on a weekday (other than Monday, when the exhibits are closed).

Wonderful place. Some tourists but it's large enough to not be crowded. The outside is beautiful and the park that it is in has some great activities and trees for shade. I'd recommend a visit, it has a long history. Be careful of scammers, there's so many.

I was happy to take the time with my family and we saw all the attractions inside the castle. There are a lot of them. Of particular interest is the work said to be Leonardo. I wasn't allowed to record that either. Other things are also interesting. The castle is a bit dark from the outside.

This castle is one of the most, if not the most, impressive and beautiful fortresses / castles I've been in. A real must seen! The size, built ornaments, towers, walls, ditch - all are great sights. And there are multiple museums inside... With the triumfh arch and beautiful garden near by, this can fill half a day of great sight seeing.

Beautiful place to visit, be sure to allocate a whole day to fully appreciate all the sites and areas of the castle, this is more that just a quick stop if touring the city. There are many little nooks and areas to walk around and investigate both inside and outside the castle. There is also a museum inside the castle. Paid tours are available on site.

An amazing place, it's €5 to gain entry which I recommend. However just having a wander through the massive courtyards and taking in the picturesque building and surroundings is definitely worth the visit. It links the park and the way towards Duomo. Spectacular place.

It was a beautiful place to take a walk around, but as many stated before there will be guys trying to "give" you some bracelets for free. Feel free to be direct and rude when telling them no, otherwise they will keep following you. Don't entertain the scammers.

  • 4/5 Hervé M. 4 years ago on Google
We haven't been visiting the inside and museums around but the outside (and inner courts) is already impressive and free and won't take more than 20 minutes to look around. A very good stop especially if you are short on time. It is very crowded though and mind the street sellers who are a bit annoying (but that's the case in all the touristic areas of Milan..)

The main landmark of the area is the Sforza Castle, which dominates the Simplon Park, the largest and most important city park in the centre of Milan. The park houses other renowned monuments and places of interest, such as the Branca Tower, 108 m high, the Palazzo dell'Arte (one of the seats of the Triennale art expo), sculptures by Giorgio de Chirico, and the public aquarium. The whole area is one of the centres of the Milanese night life, with a number of bars, pubs, restaurants, and discos; since the RAI public television company, as well as some major radio stations, have their headquarters in the area, frequent appearances of celebrities contribute to the popularity of the Sempione's night life venues.

A beautiful public space that is well maintained. It acts as a big attraction for locals and tourists alike. A multitude of exhibition areas will keep your interest up and will bring you back for repeat visits. When you get tired of the castle, head to the gardens in the back. Walk or jog around the park or simply lay back, relax and watch the various activities taking place. Great for people watching.

Didn’t take a full tour but the outside is quite stunning in its size and structure. Wish we had more time to explore this. You are free to walk around many parts of it, and even walking around the outside walls is impressive. There was a street performer at the entrance that was attracting a crowd. When we go back, I’d definitely like to spend more time here.

The Castello is so simply awesome that we had to come here twice. Visiting it in one day was not possible it seems 😂. We had a lot of fun taking pictures and admiring the beauty of the construction. Those walls, windows, gardens 👌🏾💕. In love with it all. I totally recommend going there and spending time to see all sides of it. From inside and outside.

Such an amazing structure with a lot of history. It is free to visit and was not busy at all on a Saturday July afternoon. Been to Milan before, but only pictured this beauty from the outside as it was night. This time, I arrived early in the morning to visit this historical beauty (which proved to be a good idea as the hot weather still hasn’t set in). The castle is a must visit to anyone in the area for its historical significance. One thing to note is, if you are traveling by car, make sure to know your parking areas beforehand as you might face trouble finding a place to park! fun travels!

Stunning! I cannot believe that a castle so large is situated right in Milan. It is incredibley grande with a beautiful Fountain right in front. We had bought advanced tickets so we didn't need to wait in line. I think if you come when it opens you don't necessarily need to get advanced tickets but if you start coming in the afternoon there might be a line (there was one when we were leaving). This castle is very large and is full of prized possessions it is practically a large museum! On the ground floor upon entering to the left you can find the most famous unfinished sculpture from Michelangelo The amount of artwork, furniture, dishes, utensils, instruments, statues inside of the castle is incredible! You can spend hours here

The Sforza Castle Pinacoteca (Italian: Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco) is an art gallery in the complex of the Sforza Castle Museums in Milan, northern Italy. Madonna and Child is a c. 1460–1465 tempera on panel painting by Giovanni Bellini, signed on the trompe l'oeil parapet (IO[HANN]ES B[ELLI]N[US] F.). It dates from his early phase, when he was still strongly influenced by his father Jacopo and by Andrea Mantegna. The Christ Child holds a fruit, symbolising Original Sin and foreshadowing his Passion. Some art historians feel the haloes and drapery are too archaic for the work to be by Bellini, but the signature's authenticity was confirmed by a 1999 restoration. Excerpt from Wikipedia

The castle and park behind it are well worth visiting. There's a museum and gift shop, as well as lots of shops in the park with snacks and drinks. I spent about an hour's in the castle and park exploring and strolling. I would only advise you not to accept any bracelets from the men outside as they are scammers. It's a very tourist heavy area, so you will always find con men around. Be careful!

Just FYI this review is about Leonardo's exhibition not the castle itself. Also I received the tickets for free The castle is huge, it's been many things throughout the centuries: a fortress, a display of power but I'll leave what was it to the guides. Today is a wonderful museum and I went to visit Leonardo's exhibition. I was honestly impressed: a lot of effort went to the development of the articulate demonstration you'll be shown. The number of pieces is limited but I admit it was a really nice experience. Be warned: there's a long line to get the tickets and only 50 people every 10 minutes or so, are allowed to enter the exhibition. Also you can't watch twice the demonstration because a new group of 50 people will be admitted to attend it. All in all we (me and my friends) were all satisfied and we didn't wasted our time. I recommend it, but I'm giving only 4.5 stars because I like to roam freely in an exhibition, feeling and following the flow of my curiosity and I didn't want to wait in line an hour or so to see the demonstration again.

Very interesting historical site, gives you the feeling you're inside a movie. Also it is surrounded by a beautiful park. At night the place is closed but is lit up with beautiful lights. At day time you can come inside the castle and see what you probably learned about in history lessons. It was very interesting. We weren't able to actually enter inside the building because there was some kind of private event, but the yard and everything else is open for free at is worth seeing.

For people unfamiliar with Italian painting, sculptures it can be interesting experience. But in comparison to other museums in Milan it looks pretty bad. I do not recommend going inside. Not worth the price.

If you wanna spend a few hours in the museums of the castle, it's the place to be. If the weather is sunny you should take advantage of the wonderful park too.

Nice place to just walk around & sightsee. We did not buy any tickets though. Then we headed of to the park.

Beautiful castle with many different museums. Go with plenty of time, 3 to 4 hours at least. The castle has a cafe if you get hungry.

Beautiful castle in lovely, large park. Wonderful space outside of the city, numerous museums, cafes, and restaurants onsite. Great outing for the day with family and friends. People of all ages that enjoy a variety of activities will enjoy visiting.

Have to visit with sunlight and also at night. Very nice environment, deserves a long walk that can be extended using the park on its back

Very nice castle, we went there during evening. The location around it is ideal for running or jogging. There are plenty of people jogging there. The area seemed slightly dark so probably not that safe.

A great sight in Milan, the ticket is 5 euros and gives you access to several areas. Very nice open gardens all around too.

A large, impressive and in very good condition structure. The entrance to the castle grounds is free of charge, so you can walk around as much as you like. There are also a few museums that you can buy tickets for, but they’re not very well organized - hard to find, and inside you have to walk the same room twice to see everything, because of how they are displayed (some, such as the Egyptian museum, were closed).

Great place, it is mandatory to know. The castle is open and there is a lot to see. There are a few museums you have to visit, they are not expensive and the park behind is really beautiful. You need to check before the visit because on Mondays, the museums are closed. It is an open and a very beautiful space.

  • 5/5 Chris C. 1 year ago on Google
While the free grounds were crowded on a beautiful Sunday, the museums were practically empty. For 5 Euros you can visit all the museums, which could take many hours if you took your time. Go to the museum for the Michelangelo first because it is usually empty and no waiting is required. Once you have the ticket you breeze by the other entrances. Going on a weekday will certainly make the visit more enjoyable!

Even if you’re not interested in history, you can’t help but being in awe when you see this medieval castle. It was constructed and re-constructed from 1360 to 1499 and was in use until 1862. It’s a huge, imposing and impressive fortress. The entrance to the gardens and walk around the castle is always free. The inside of the castle (hosting a museum and various exhibitions) instead is free only on certain days of the month; however, the entrance fee is not expensive at all. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit the museum and the exhibitions when we were in Milan recently, but I look forward to going back hopefully soon!

Wonderful historical experience and amazing location! Three separate museums, all of which focus on history, are present. One is a museum of ancient art that has works of art and images from various eras dating back many years. The second is a museum of old musical instruments, followed by historical furniture, moving accessories, and other items. The three museums are each accessible with a single five-euro admission. It was great fun for me. You should go there! There was no line at the entrance, and advance ticket purchasing was not necessary. You can also just go inside without paying and just take a walk in the place from the outside. Also not very far from the city center. About 15 min walking or something like this

What an incredible building that's steeped in history and well renovated. To fully enjoy this museum and gardens you need to spend at least 4+ hours admiring the art, sculptures, pottery, weapons, musical instruments, and the general surroundings that go back through the centuries.

Not only was the Castle a spectacular piece of architecture, the museum contained within is off the charts amazing. One full day is the minimum time necessary to explore the collection, and truthfully, two to three days is preferred. Absolutely a gem hidden on plain sight in Milan. Also, for anyone wondering, all of the staff I interacted with spoke at least some English and were very helpful.

  • 5/5 Medical Media T. 10 months ago on Google
This is one the best places to visit for sure. The castle is magical, lots of amazing art, the staff is very friendly, not overcrowded and only costs 5 euros. They have a nice bar and amazing landscapes.

Amazing experience as by pure luck came on first Sunday of the month, which is free (also certain Tuesdays too). Massive museum, if you want to check it thoroughly, easily could take at least 4hrs! Probably 6😂so many different sections, that has collections of things I haven't seen anywhere else before.

  • 5/5 Κατερινα . 9 months ago on Google
The entrance to the castle itself is free, but to get to the museums you need a ticket which is 5€ full price and lets you visit all of the museums. They even have lockers which let you travel around the castle and the museum without carrying anything. Everything is nice and well kept, there are benches everywhere and the staff, even with their limited English, were trying to help as much as they could. The whole castle is too big to walk on one day, so we prioritized the things we went there for. If you want to visit everything, you should visit at least twice.

  • 4/5 Chloe B. 9 months ago on Google
Historical castle open to the public in a huge and beautiful park. Green spaces inside the castle gates offer shady spots to rest or picnic. Entering the castle is free, but you must pay to visit any of the museums *inside* the castle. We felt the free views were enough for us.

  • 5/5 Aoythip M. 9 months ago on Google

The Sforzesco Castle stands as a truly iconic symbol of the magnificent city of Milan. With its rich history, it serves as a testament to the once-powerful Sforza family. Today, it holds a special significance among the Milanese people, often chosen as a beloved venue for concerts and musicals. I highly recommend exploring the museum within its walls during your visit as well.

  • 4/5 Teresa A. 7 months ago on Google
It was very nice and clean, even had a small fountain to drink water which is great with the heat. In my opinion the rooms close too early, at around 5pm you can’t visit it anymore. The gardens are currently closed, specially during summer but we didn’t know that. The room da Vinci painted was being renovated but you could still see something. But everything was beautiful.

The Castle is a little ways outside of city center. It’s large, but much of it has been redone. If you have time, go see it. However, f you’re limited on time go to one of the amazing museums in Milan instead. Nothing super unique to see except some older murals inside the main courtyard.

A lovely castle situated in the heart of Milan. We were able to walk the grounds without having to do the tour and could enjoy the history by walking around the outside of the castle and grounds.

It's a go to in Milan. Lots of museum quality sculptures and Renaissance art that are religiously oriented. I'm not sure the audio is necessary as we kind of breezed through with out studying each piece. It's a huge facility so be prepared. There are no furnishings is basically a museum. I'd definitely go there if I was tourist.

Very beautiful castle with a garden in the middle, we visited on a sunday and it wasn't busy at all. The castle is well maintained. There are no restaurants or shops inside the castle other than the info point, but there is a big garden outside the castle, I'll attach a pic of it. It is definitely a must visit place if you are in Milan.

This is a "must see" in Milan though overwhelming. Sforzesco needs a good half day plus to really do it justice. It consists of many museums - armour, ceramics, iconography and so on. Also the inner courtyard is a very nice place to go if the traffic and crowds get too much.

  • 5/5 Jeffrey S. 6 months ago on Google
Beautiful castle with close access to the city and the park right behind the castle. No tickets required for outside walk around. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Milan.

This place is big. It was fun walking through the museum here. It was our first day on Milan. It is worth the visit. Do I need to go back? No, not unless we were with an other couple who hadn't visited it before.

One of the emblematic sights of Milan, a castle turned into several museums, each located at different parts (some more interesting than others). Deffinetelly a better solution than the initial plan they had to destroy it. Very nice price, too - just 3 euro per person for all the museums there

The castle is like stepping into a medieval time capsule right in the heart of Milan. It's a treasure trove of history and art. One can wander through the courtyards, and you'll feel like you've been transported back to the Renaissance. And let's not forget the gardens – a serene escape in the middle of the city hustle.

  • 5/5 B K. 4 months ago on Google
Beautiful castle with so many things to explore in and around it! You can pay extra to visit the museum where you can see some of the furniture music instruments, paintings and more. Alternatively, you can enjoy the park near the castle or appreciate the castle from the outside for free.
