I was in town for an event and needed a clean up job. A friend recommended Architect and booked me in. I've been going to the same barber for years so I was somewhat skeptical, but was excited by the idea of having a beer while I got my haircut. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly Roger at the bar, who served up some delicious local beers. My haircut was with Paige, and she did a fantastic job. She was very friendly and really took the extra time and care to ensure that my cut was top notch. Absolutely loved the vibes in this place and the staff seem like great people. Roger called me handsome and you know I rode that compliment all day. Hands down the best haircut I've had in years / best haircutting experience I've probably ever had. Go to this barbershop.

I have long heard positive things and seen accolades about this place. I decided to give it a try and selected Mike as barber of choice when setting up the appointment. I entered feeling confident — in light of the accolades under their belt — that I was in good hands; and I left concluding that those accolades were reinforced. Mike was gentle on the hair, sociable, kind, and dedicated to his craft — a master of his craft. He understood my instructions and vision with ease and perfectly captured my vision (unfortunately, I cannot say the same of previous barbers with whom I took a chance). He took my vision and delivered it masterfully. No barber deserved their gratuity more than Mike. I cannot say enough to recommend! Edit 28/Dec/2023: Second visit was a pleasure! More helpful advice, a gentle touch and a vision carried to perfection. Lexi proved she knows her craft! Lexi helpfully suggested, on top of my fade maintenance, some light trimming elsewhere to balance out and improve volume — advice well taken and gladly accepted. Thank you greatly Lexi!

The bartender, the guy who answers the phone, does a great job. He invited me in with a friendly welcome by name and served me a nice coffee. The atmosphere was great and I was excited for the haircut, expecting a really premium experience, however, the barberess who cut my hair seemed to be in a bad mood. She made almost no conversation throughout the 30 minutes and every comment she made was negative in some way. I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted my hair cut and I immediately felt judged as if it was my job to style it myself. She made several comments about the strange colour of my hair (apparently there are some interesting natural highlights in the back), and accused me of cutting it myself. My rating here would be much lower if I didn't overhear the barber next to me making tailored suggestions for his client and taking the time to make interesting conversation, or if the bartending didn't greet me so warmly. If I do come back here, I surely will not be seeing the same woman who cut my hair today. The man with the beard and tattoos seems to be a great barber though.

Loved my haircut and what a charming lady (Lindsay) always happy and doing cute little dances. Very friendly and very professional! Keep up the great work!

So, I am not overstating the matter when I say I will never let anyone’s hands other than Tatjana’s touch my hair. I just let her do what she wants and for the first time have real wash and wear hair. If you are looking for a place to get a good short haircut as a womxn/woman presenting person that is equal parts professional, edgy, sexy, non binary, etc. don’t hesitate. Grab yourself a drink, vibe the music, and let her work her magic.

Architect hair design is a a great spot to get a nice shave and beer. Jackie is an artist and really takes deep attention to detail while working on her client. Best straight razor shave my hubby has had(his exact words). The patio is soooo cute. Highly recommend checking it out!

Love love love this gem of a barber shop. Talented barbers, great atmosphere, cold drinks..what more can you ask for? Overall positive experience and would definitely recommend.

I just had my first haircut in Canada and frankly I was a bit nervous. The moment I entered the shop I was welcomed by the friendly bartender and the place is so nice and warm that I might go there with my friends just to chill in the future. I was called by the barber right on time and I had an amazing experience with Lindsay! After I briefly told her what I want, she explained very clearly what she was going to do and she kept explaining during the cut. We had a nice conversation as well. Turns out she didn't need to cut that much and my hair only needed some maintenance and it looks exactly what I expected. It doesn't end there though. Lindsay and generally the staff are really honest about the charges. She gave me a huge discount because she didn't have to cut that much which means she's really honest with her work. I will definitely go back there in a few months. Overall, I had a wonderful experience!

I booked an appointment for my fiancé to get a haircut with Mike and he did an amazing job!! I am so happy with the results I already booked his next haircut with Mike again!!

I've been searching for a new place to get my hair cut since I grew my hair out. I found this place and added it to the list of places I wanted to try. My experience was really good, my hair looked and felt great, the atmosphere was welcoming and kind as a newcomer, and although I'm sure I wasn't this person's regular she was very nice. I'm writing this review to morso complain about the experience I had elsewhere for a haircut I got recently. The place I had gone was also close to the core of downtown and seemed to offer similar vibes. To my surprise I felt that despite being the only appointment I got the sense I was burdening the (3) people who worked their. I didn't get the hair dresser I had placed the appointment with, I wasn't even shot with the "is this your first time in?" Till about half way through them cutting, the guy spent 15min pulling at my scalp to get knots out , didn't wash my hair and ultimately tried giving my a similar style to his own hair cut and it ended up being more expensive. With respect to the business owner I don't want to call them out but I certainly won't be going back. Moreover, with this as my comparison I will gladly be coming back to Architect.

I went in for my first haircut with architect ever and u have not had a haircut this good probably ever, at least in 5 years. I got my cut done with Matt who let me know he’s been cutting for 6 months now and lemme tell you, it’s like he’s been cutting for YEARS. So. Well. Done. The bar there is also amazing and the customer service was spectacular compared to any other shop I’ve been to, I was offered a drink when I came in and felt so comfortable, so quickly.

Book with Tatjana and you won't be disappointed! She does great work and talks you through the whole process so you know exactly what's going. Or ask her to wing it and she'll kill it. She's got a client for life outta me 🙌

I was there today for the first time and Mike gave me a haircut! Have to say that I'm very picky when it comes to barbers but I am very happy with what Mike did today. He was an active listener and cared a lot to give me the haircut I exactly wanted. I'm 100% happy and will definitely go back there! Also the place looks so groovy with decorations and the bar they have inside! So cool! Very much recommended!

Place has a great welcoming vibe. Felt it the moment I walked through the door. I have been trying to find a person/place that get longer hair. Tatjana gets longer hair. Friendly, professional and does a damn good haircut.

Really professional. Mike knew what he was doing and even gave awesome tips on styling and how the hair would grow out. Great atmosphere and the owner was chill too. Great place to hangout and even better if you're getting a haircut ;) .

Stopped in for a beer during super crawl and the bartender was super nice - overall a cool place to pop in for a drink (or haircut) in downtown Hamilton.

What's not to love about this barbers or their sister shop Hendry's on Barton St East? Beer with a haircut and some great cutters. Great local business, well worth supporting.

This place is great. Grab a beer before your haircut and throw in a shave if you're feeling extra fancy. Also, Andrew's the man. He makes me look good.

The staff at Architect have always been friendly and accommodating if I was ever unable to make my appointments. Great team, atmosphere, grooming and barbers. Living near Hendrys and having since moved away I wanted to send a note that I was so appreciative of their business model, friendly and kind service and efforts to create a community hub in the heart of the city. Very cool. A barbershop that offers beverages, great hair cuts, cool tunes, and worked with Dawson's hot sauce to create their own very tasty concoction. Just a tad place with rad professionals.

I would say it is over rated. I got cutting and beard done. Beard was uneven. Long from one side and short from other. Guy was polite but I would strongly say it is not a beard place for sure.
