The sandy point lighthouse is accessible by foot at low tide. It is a beautiful area and we timed our visit so it was low tide and we could walk all the way out. Quite the sight to see. The lighthouse was first built in 1873 and was located on a pier. It burnt down and was rebuilt and relocated in 1903 to its current location. It is built on a concrete base on a sand spit in Shelburne Harbor. The lighthouse used to be called β€œThe Sand Spit” because it is situated on the sand spit extending west from the point. Worth a visit.

The volunteers had everything under control and were very thoughtful as it was a reception from a funeral....everything was set up and refilled as needed ...lots of coffee tea water and a very light great tasting punch

Sandy Point Lighthouse is quite special. You can walk to it during low tide and it is standing in water during high tide. Just to put it into perspective. Nova Scotia have INSANE tides ranging from 3,5 meters which is an adult elephant to 16 meters - that would cover 5 story building.

The Sandy Point Lighthouse is a wonderful stop! The water is easily accessible. There is a nice nice sand bar so everyone can walk into the ocean. If you are lucky enough to get there on a Saturday when they have their breakfast you will enjoy your meal AND support the maintenance of the Lighthouse. Well worth stopping by the Sandy Point Lighthouse.

First time here and was so impressed with the beauty! Nice little stopping point for a picnic or to watch the birds dive bomb the water for fish.
