Kyoto Blue Bottle Coffee is a delightful haven for coffee enthusiasts. The cafe's charming decor, with its blend of minimalist design and cozy aesthetics, creates a welcoming ambiance. The attention to detail, from the chic furniture to the curated artwork, adds a touch of sophistication. But it's not just about aesthetics—the coffee here is exceptional. Each cup is a testament to their commitment to quality. The beans are expertly sourced, and the baristas skillfully craft each brew. The rich aroma and nuanced flavors make it a true haven for coffee connoisseurs. The staff's passion for their craft is evident, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're a casual coffee drinker or a devoted aficionado, Kyoto Blue Bottle Coffee provides a haven where great coffee and charming ambiance converge seamlessly. A must-visit for those who appreciate the artistry of both decor and a perfectly brewed cup. ☕🌿 #KyotoBlueBottle #CoffeeCulture

Nice vibe and good coffee. Cashier made a wrong charge and only I found a few days later. Anyway it is a good place to visit.

Blue bottle coffee is one of my go-to places for great coffee! The food was also surprisingly good - the cinnamon apple waffle has so much textures and flavours we really enjoyed it! The meat pie with tomato soup is not bad as well. This cafe is also really pretty has a nice ambience! My only gripe is with the poor queue/ seating management - although we queued up at the start to enter the cafe (expecting to only secure seats after placing orders) the seats were filled up the staff didn’t stop taking orders/ inform customers so quite a number of people ordered food without having tables. People that came in later took seats without ordering as well so it was abit messy.

Nice little coffee place designed to blend into the Japanese architecture feel. Nothing special about its coffee and/or food. Also difficult to find a seat during peak hours. Service and staff were friendly and great though.

I visited each of 3 Blue Bottle coffee shops in Kyoto and this is my favourite. One of the kind location with beautiful lighting. In addition it is close to my favourite temples in Kyoto. Coffee is excellent, macha cake is a delight! It is worth the price.

Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto Cafe, located in a century-old machiya (traditional townhouse), offers a calming, Zen-like ambiance that makes it a standout spot for coffee enthusiasts. The cafe's interior embraces a mix of Japanese and urban elegance, providing a serene and inviting atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy a variety of coffee options, with the drip coffee being a notable choice for its bright and clean flavors. While the coffee receives positive remarks, the snacks, including options like gruyère cheese waffles and a Kyoto-exclusive Green Tea Mint Cookie, are satisfactory but not particularly exceptional. The cafe also features alfresco seats, offering a relaxed setting to enjoy a cup of coffee in the cool breeze. Despite being popular and aesthetically pleasing, some visitors have noted that the coffee, while good, may not live up to the hype considering its price. The space itself, balancing traditional Japanese architecture with modern design elements, provides a unique experience that goes beyond just coffee drinking. Blue Bottle Coffee Kyoto Cafe is a great place to experience a blend of new and old in today's coffee culture, but it's recommended to visit early to avoid long lines, especially during peak seasons.

Why one star you may ask? Honesty is most important in life. We came at a busy time but nothing was told about the long wait for any order. Many customers were unhappy about the long wait. We waited 1 hour before we received our order. The coffee and food were great and luckily the weather was great too. Maybe be honest to your loyal customers and tell them the long wait when they order!!!!! Thank you in advance to add this little but very important element!

This is my favorite blue bottle location. We like to visit the nearby temples first thing in the morning, then walk over to blue bottle for a few coffees. They always have limited pastries, plus the new waffle plates. That means I can have lunch and coffee!

This may be the most beautiful coffee shop I've been to. It's a situated in a traditional wooden Kyoto townhouse ("kyomachiya") that has been renovated and given a sleek, modern and minimalist design. It's a real pleasure relaxing here for a bit after sightseeing. The drink menu is as in all Blue Bottle cafés. Regarding both pour-over and espresso, you can choose between a blend and a (pricier) single origin. When I visited, the latter was an anaerobic natural coffee from Indonesia, which I think is best suited for espresso. The food menu offers cakes, pastries, granola and waffles (I don't know whether the last two are available all day or only during brunch hours).

Huge cafe that’s along the touristy stretch of temples, with its seating spread across 2 houses and some outdoor seating too! Ordered some drinks to sip on while resting from the temple visits and a cake to go long: ☕️ coffee was decent, an easy 4 🌟 by itself 🍰 the matcha or Kyoto cake was a win for my brother, a 5 🌟! 🛜 They do have free WiFi too, a plus for tourists who are looking to surf the web - which we used a lot of since we were still planning our day on the go. Definitely helped a whole lot 👍🏻

The design and atmosphere was amazing. But I like Tokyo's Blue Bottle better. I remembered there was a special taste in its latte but I didn't taste it in Kyoto's Blue Bottle. Wonder why. Still, it was a good place to relax.

A little bit off the main road, but great place to grab a coffee and relax for a bit if you have the time! Offers a great view and nice service, the coffee is also pretty good! The waffles are really good would recommend to try one if you are hungry!

Coffee was a bit over hyped. Wait was alright as I came before it opened at 9am. Wouldn’t really recommend this place if you had to wait a long time. If you’re from somewhere like Australia, don’t bother coming to this place. Place offers overpriced coffee for what’s it worth, taste like instant coffee!! Go to the temple nearby instead! Also, if you end up coming to this place, make sure to takeaway, otherwise you’ll end up paying more!!

My third Blue Bottle in Asia, and this one has the best vibes for sure. This branch is comprised of two old buildings, the one at the front sells merchandise, and the other for food and beverages. They also provides a number of seats indoor and outdoor - but the air conditioning was very weak during my visit (the only reason I didn't give it a five!). The shop can get very busy and crowded with tourists in summer. If you need to pick one Blue Bottle in Kyoto to visit, this is probably your go to place. One weakness is that it is a bit far from the metro station by walk.

Super busy but the queue was moving quickly. Limited seats although its a big coffee shop. Location in a beautiful area surrounded by many shrines and gardens to visit .

I don’t often write reviews but this place really deserves a great one ! The atmosphere is amazing balancing between modernity and old typical Japanese style, waiters are friendly and the food/coffee is very good too (plus they’ve got oat milk !) It’s a must visit coffee in Kyoto !

The coffee and hot chocolate were amazing and the atmosphere here is so peaceful and beautiful. It’s a really cool spot to check out and get a drink and maybe some food

The coffee is good. I got myself the drip blend. At that time the blend was from Africa. The coffee is slightly bitter and more sour. The more you drink it, the more the sour taste dominates. I think it is because of the coffee beans. Not all like this kind of coffee. But compare to Starbucks, this is so much better. The coffee tastes "clean". The place is so cozy. From outside it looks unassumingly small. When you go inside, it goes long to the back. The inside is modern-traditional blend with the Japanese traditional architecture. With dominant element being wood equipments (chairs, tables, etc). The employees are hospitable and kind. Top notch service.

A spot of tranquillity and peace. After a morning of exploring Nanzenji, head over to Blue Bottle Coffee’s first Kyoto outlet for coffee. Seated in a traditional Kyomachiya which is more than 100 years old, the two-story buildings retain a rough yet stylistic beauty. NOLA (JPY715 for hot), their original coffee drink is brewed with roasted, blended with milk and organic cane sugar. Pair it with a Kyoto-exclusive item, Matcha Terrine Chocolat (JPY352) for a sweet morning. P.S: After coffee, stroll over to Keage Incline, an old railway track which connects to Lake Biwa Canal and blooming Sakura during spring.

The most beautiful Blue Bottle I saw in Kyoto & Tokyo! Great coffee, gorgeous interior, friendly staff. What else can someone ask? It’s highly recommended when in Kyoto!

Amazing place. Going back tomorrow for more beans to take home. The service is excellent. The food looked terrific and the coffee is splendid. 10/10!

Probably the coolest blue bottle cafe in the world. And their heating and cooling bill might not be the cheapest with lottery zero insulation. Cool architecture should go hand in hand with functionality

If you wanna grab flat white here, you just order cafe latte at the cashier. Basically taste is clear,light-bodied and mild.not astringent and heavy. Vibes of this nice cafe house is classic and modern.this is nice renovated coffee house. Staffs are so friendly and very polite. You can park bicycles and little scooter in front of the house. Take away is available. There are roughly 20-25 seats here. You also can buy some coffee beans here. This shop is divided into 2 parts. The building in backwards is for coffee order .

Japan style blue bottle house! Honestly, the coffee was all normal but the atmosphere was good. If you take a picture of the store, it will be very good. It would be nice to take a souvenir picture. There is a separate building where you can buy souvenirs.

Expect long lines during peak times. First taste of Blue Bottle in Japan and was amazed with the consistent coffee and experience. Extensive drink menu with a couple simple items to eat. The location is prime walking distance from downtown (and near the zoo). The cafe was absolutely stunning and could easily be confused for a traditional Japanese house. The interior is simple with two buildings attached to the complex. We had some great coffee in Koyto but BB was definitely near the top. [Also loved the glass coffee cups they served the pour over coffee in]

Great integration of modern style coffee shop in superb traditional Kyoto house. Still don’t like the acidic third wave coffee taste. But love their minimalistic design. Paint all in white and you’re at the Apple coffee shop. 🍏

California (Bay Area) girl living in Okinawa for almost 5 years and had no idea blue bottle coffee made its way to Japan. I was so excited to see blue bottle on the map when I searched for coffee. This location is stunning and the staff are welcoming! I appreciated that a few could communicate with me in English as my Japanese is barely even elementary, lol. Thank you for the warm welcomes and amazing coffee!

Blue bottle is a brand which I associate with consistently excellent coffee. Every shop I've been to has been great. This one adds the element of gorgeous Kyoto style architecture.

Famous blue bottle near Suirokaku Water Bridge. There were tons of people so the orocess of putting the order in and getting drinks took about 20 min. I had a cardamom latte which was a holiday special drink. It was super tasty! Creamy, soft with spice-kick.

Cafe inside an old Japanese house is amazing concept. Well designed. Coffee is just a blue bottle coffee. Kyoto special matcha chocolate is just okay.

Having been to Blue Bottle stores in California, we were amazed and pleasantly surprised to find them in Kyoto. Walking on the temple trail, we came across a beautifully restored Japanese style house with a stunning courtyard. The front house hosts the roastery where beans can be bought. The house at the back has the cafe. Minimal design, with japanese hospitality and service, make this place surreal. The coffee is brilliant and the food is good too. What a delight to find Blue Bottle in Kyoto. Excellent.

Beautiful setting in a traditional wood building with plenty of seating. Theres a courtyard and a small garden in the back. Possibly the best Blue Bottle location. The Kyoto special matcha chocolate was very tasty.

The renovation of the old townhouse is fantastic, drip coffee and latte are always good. The staff is kinda clueless sometimes (giving coffee with a cap but no straw, making a regular milk cappuccino instead of asked oat).

  • 5/5 W L. 1 year ago on Google
The coffee is great and love the setting in a old Kyoto house. There is not a lot of choices for coffee and it is probably good enough for most. Just sitting inside the building is already worth the price of the coffee. A must stop-over if you happy to be going tl Philosopher’s Path.

The brunch plates were amazing. Vegetables, salad and hummus. They were sold out by 12am so come early. The desserts were also incredible. The cherry parfait was beautifully balanced.
