I thought Bradford Royal Infirmary for waiting times was bad Airedale is worse when it comes to waiting times especially when there's not many patients in the waiting area majority of patients come in big groups with family members and makes the hospital staff think that they patients. Waited more than 5 hours with my wife just to wait for her results its absolutely shocking. The only thing you get told is you just have to wait I'm afraid these hospitals waste patients precious time. Don't attend this hospital at all costs all these hospitals are the same NHS is finished.

Terrible standard of care, I can only hope that someone puts this hospital on the right track about how to treat the elderly and vulnerable.. Hospital acquired infection and pressure sores are not an acceptable method of treatment in my opinion.. Poor communication and I lost count of the numbers of nurses who said " I haven't got the computer with me" !! And couldn't update me about any issues about my relative.. Given the very restricted visiting times, this is a skill the staff in this hospital need to be reacquainted with....FAST!

Always had a good experience with airdale hospital and would have always chosen to go there over bri but I have been in with heart pains and after 4 hours asked the doctor how many people I had Infront of me to get barked at "your slowing me down!!! You'll get seen when you get seen!!!". Absolutely horrific behaviour of someone dealing with vulnerable people and are there obviously in crisis. The lass who was at the side of me was saying she wish she'd never come as the same nurse was rude to her. I just came home after that. Should be sacked on the spot. Horrible person airdale need to look at the behaviour of this so called "employee" as she's horrible. Will go to bri next time and would advise others to too.

Just like to thank all the staff at ward 20 during my surgery today. Was very nervous today but the surgeon really put me at ease before the op (apologies couldn't remember your name). Also the recovery nurse Sinead was great. Ward 20 nurses Zena, Doris & Chris are a great credit to the hospital and cared for me from start to finish. Can't put into words how nice, friendly and informative they were. Keep up the good work and keep smiling like you did. Many Thanks

If you have to go to hospital this must be one of the best. Made welcome and introduced to the nurses by name. Shown to your own area brought water and made comfortable and kept updated as to the lay out for the day. Surgeon and Anestatist both advised how the procedure would play out. Escorted to theatre and, can't remember any more until the nurse gave me a drink and asked if I was ok. Looked after well with coffee and toast. Given advanced advice that we could leave to give time to arrange transport.

Not getting into it here (my thumbs would be worn down to the bone if I tried) but anyone who's had a 'one-star experience' as I have done needs to make sure they escalate it to the right places and get concerns acknowledged and addressed. For the sake of your own wellbeing but also every patient after you that could potentially receive the same treatment as you.

I'd just like to wholeheartedly thank the Staff and Doctors for the very informative and friendly service they gave to my family and me. This is why the NHS should be free at point of use. We are very lucky! My daughter had some dental work under general anesthetic and we were informed about every detail from start to finish. Any worries we had were quickly put to ease. They told us exactly what they were going to do and gave us after care advice and looked after us amazingly. We got there early for the appointment with plenty of parking spots for a reasonable price. On site restaurant was great too with a Costa coffee machine and we made use of a wheelchair on the way out as she took a while to come fully around from the anesthetic. Can't thank them enough! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!

Having just finished my courses of treatment prior to surgery I wish to place on record in public my heartfelt thanks & praise to HODU RADIOLOGY RADIOTHERAPY & all the admin reception porter & nursing staff. They were ALL kind thoughtful and worked throughout the strikes to keep me & other patients treated at a time when I was nervous & they were overworked. Patients & visitors should be grateful that we have Airedale Hospital in our midst. Regards David 11/12/45

Rubbish. Was told I was only going to be put in hospital for a day. 4th day of sleeping on beds with thinnest provided blankets, I was told I would be discharged within an hour. Took 3 hours for them to come back and let us go! Food is a shambles. Rather starve. Most of the nurses have no idea what they are doing and have to check with the small amount of staff who actually know what they are doing. Honestly.

I live midway between two hospitals and if I need that sort of care and attention I am able to choose which one to go to. Recently I had that geriatric experience of chest pains and because a friend of mine recently waited seven hours for an ambulance, I decided to ring my long-suffering son to take me to Airedale Hospital to get it checked. His wife rang the hospital to say we were on the way, and I was being assessed within minutes. It wasn't a heart attack and, feeling a bit sheepish, I am back home trying to look as though I am ill.

Awful nurses with absolutely zero compassion or empathy in the Acute assessment unit and receptionists who feel it is their job to harass family members who are upset and mutter and get involved in things that do not concern them. My mum was admitted to hospital and her bedding wasn’t changed for 4 days until she requested it herself, she had a neck brace which should have been changed day and night and wasn’t changed for 3 days. We were told my mum was palliative so family came to see her and we adhered to the rule of 2 ppl to a bed and would only come between 1-8pm which was visiting hours. One day it was absolutely fine but the next day the lead nurse had a problem. We questioned why the patient in the next bed was allowed to have someone stay all day and overnight and the nurse became belligerent and aggressive and started screaming. Nasty woman who should not be in the caring profession. There was no consistency at all with visiting times and other families did have more than 2 to a bed but that was fine as they were white families. We were referred to as ‘you lot’ by the nurse and were told we could not use the family and relatives room and were told to get out as it was needed. We waited outside for over an hour and nobody came to use it and if they had we would have left. The nurses and receptionist were on a powertrip as I made a point to look into it on the way out of the hospital and the receptionist started calling out to me saying, ‘excuse me, it was being used before’. I turned around and told her I was leaving and hadn’t spoken to her but the fact she felt she had to jump in and justify the empty room was alarming as she is only a receptionist. I don’t understand why she had such a reaction. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone and throughout my life we have had care in many different hospitals in Lancashire but have never come across such an awful experience as we did at Airedale. If a family have a member who is on palliative care the hospital should understand it is a difficult time and the family need to be around, we were punished for raising our concerns and shown zero compassion. My poor mum was punished by having to be alone and they would keep coming over to tell her a worse prognosis when she was alone with no next of kin with her. Highly disappointing. I would never ever return to Airedale hospital for care of any kind.

My Mum was recently in ward 10. The staff were all very kind. I witnessed their attention to a lady who had clearly had a life threatening episode earlier in the day. The staff's warmth, care and encouragement to the lady was beautiful to see! Thank you everyone.

Our mother is 88, she was given a suspected diagnosis of a TIA. The ambulance took her to the BRI saying that was the best place. 4 hours later in 30 degrees heat my mum puking into a bucket, she still hadn't been seen. So we decided to take her to Airedale hospital, triage nurse said she'd try to get her seen quickly. 5 hours later she's still waiting!! Disgraceful, how wud the staff feel if it was their Mother!!!!!!??

Both my husband and I attended for our covid booster yesterday 17/11/22 Can't fault our experience at all. A helpful volunteer showed us where to go and the nurse who actually gave us our injections was very friendly and chatty while remaining professional. The only downside to our visit to Airedale hospital is parking. The car parks are always busy and expensive.

Outstanding care from the team on ward 20 and the orthopaedic surgical team who put my shoulder back together after a horrible cycling accident. Special mention for the anaesthetists who made it go so well. I cannot imagine how you could all have cared more. You are truly remarkable people, the very best of us and I am going to place a permanent booking for all my future cycling mishaps with this team.

As with most other NHS hospitals at the moment nurses are overworked, underpaid and understaffed and even say so themselves. Whilst individually they are lovely and kind, they simply are exhausted and do not have the resources to give a high standard of care required. The lack of staff means: - Can often be waiting hours for medication on wards - Some negative experiences with non compassionate external agency nurses working on wards at night. - Follow up care post-discharge is minimal. - Waiting times are long This is not at the fault of Airedale, but at the Government.

I cannot fault the maternity services at Airedale hospital. From the antenatal clinics and Dr Graham’s dedication to her profession to the MAC unit, labour ward and Ward 21. The team are a credit to the hospital and the midwives are extremely dedicated to their roles and their clients. To name a couple, Katy and Gill made my stay much more comfortable. Thank you.

Brother went in with numbness in arms, legs and face and were told it will be a 4 hour wait. Asked after 4 hours and were told it’s a 5 hour wait. Asked again and told 7 hour wait, then told it’s a 9 hour wait. After 9.5 hours was told it’s a 14 hour wait and we can’t guarantee you will be seen in 14 hours. What a joke this place is. It wasn’t even busy literally 20 to 25 people in there and no one got seen by a doctor for the 10 hours we were there and to be honest I don’t think they even had a doctor there. People including us just left at the 10 hour mark as it had become a joke which wasn't funny. Airedale hospital staff need to pull theirs finger out their a#ses and sort this out. I don’t know what kind of Mickey Mouse operation they’re running here but peoples lives are in danger with these clown running the hospital they way they are. The receptionist at the front desk had no clue what was going on the only 3 words they said were “we don’t know” seriously if you don’t know then this isn’t the job for you as you’re putting peoples lives at risk. I thought Bri was bad but these clown take 1st prize here. Avoid at all cost. You don’t even deserve a single star but I couldn’t select 0 stars.

What an absolute wonderful hospital we have in Airedale. I had the misfortune to visit A&E last Tuesday. From the word go the reception lady I spoke to right through to the wonderful doctor were absolutely fantastic. I was seen in minor injuries almost straight away. I had three blood tests thinking I may have a clot or a bad infection. Was told to go home come back three hours later for the results. Upon returning I was told to go for an X-ray. They tried to get me in for a scan there and then, but they were very busy. I was given a strong antibiotic plus blood thinning tablets. The following morning I was rung to go have a scan at lunchtime. I cannot thank the staff enough they were so kind. If I had been royalty I could not have received better treatment. Thank you all so much. God bless.

Been here multiple times since i was a kid and ironically the waiting times weren't that bad for how many people were there. It was like every 30 minutes another person showed up (this was years ago) but i had to wait 4-5 hours. I mean It felt like 30 mins so i didn't care. also... this might of changed now but when i was younger and i mean 6 months old we tried to go to this hospital for burns and since it was a second degree burn they sent me to Wakefield.

I was in Cardiac ward 1 for 12 days in Sept and couldn't fault the nurses, doctors and ancilliary staff. They dealt with some difficult circumstances with great professionism and were very friendly, kind and helpful. A big thank you to all of you helping me on the road to recovery.

Having been in Airedale on numerous occasions over the last 7 yrs, I have found out that they are always extremely busy. But on every time they find a very good way of helping you ( but the funny side is that when you are well enough to go home they can not wait to get you out of there ha ha ) final remark ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Thanks to the team for looking after me x x x

A disgrace of a hospital, reflective of the usual poor standards of the NHS. They deferred my appointment three separate times, then didn't bother to call me at the arranged time. PALS is closed as well. And all these jokers want a pay rise.

After a bad experience with 111 and another hospital, it’s nice to know the NHS is completely dead. Staff are great, friendly and personable, don’t make you feel like a burden: straight in, tests done, sent home with diagnosis, all in less than 5 hours. Fantastic service.

  • 5/5 Chris B. 8 months ago on Google
Personally the hospital is brilliant, the staff are professional. But here it comes its not the hospitals fault on waiting times I was there for 6 hours and I would be patient to wait, if somebody takes priority let them go through. But when you have 2 idiots shouting at staff I find that disrespectful. I wasn't happy with the people waiting, the staff handled it really well. I mentioned to the idiots you had your triage to clarify your priority but they pulled out the race card. I suggest you have shutters down and lock the reception to improve the service. There is nothing more scary than a metal shutter down and security alarms going off, it will soon calm people down. They did move both men but one of them left their wheelchair in reception.... he wasn't that poorly.

I was taken to hospital via ambulance because they thought I’d had a eptopic pregnancy Got checked in and seen fairly fast. It was then just the waiting game to see a surgeon The surgeon said to me that it sounded like a early start of an appendicitis he wanted to keep me in over night so I could have an ultrasound, I kindly declined and he said thag a doctor would be in touch the next day to arrange a ultrasound. The following day I got a phonecall from the nurse which she booked me in for an ultrasound for the next day. I arrived at Airedale the following day and again was seen fairly quickly she did my ultrasound and was then told I was ok to go home and that a doctor would be in touch if there was any problems Now this is when it goes downhill, about a couple of hours later Airedale hospital and rang me and asked where I was as apparently I was meant to go down to outpatients to have more blood done and to see the surgeon. Now the nurse never told me this So again I took another trip to Airedale and again my bloods and obvs were done fairly quickly. I must have only had to wait at least an hour to see the nurse and then did a check on my tummy to show where the pain was. Baring in mind I had been in pain for 2 days now. She then told me I had to wait again to see the surgeon. The surgeon who then decided to see me was rude and ignorant. I explained everything that had happened in the past 2 days in which he listened to and then did what he had to do. Pushed down on my stomach to see where the pain was and then that was it. He could clearly see I was in pain as I was laid on the bed in tears in which he told me no I don’t think there’s anything wrong and spoke to the nurse about prescribing me some med. in which I only got 400mg of ibro. I left the hospital fuming because I again had no answers in what was wrong. To me personally found that time wasting because I’d dropped my plans to finally get some answers and got nothing.

The wards stink, the staff nearly lost my paperwork before my operation. The new layout is horrendous in so called "zones" was a lot easier before with ward number signs sticking out on corridors rather than the current flat acrylic signs on walls. Parts of the walls are sectioned off due to crumbling concrete and the flat roof leaks. They keep talking about building a new hospital and permission being passed so just get on with it!!!

I have had the misfortune to use Airedale quite a bit over the recent years, both as a patient myself and also as a mother to a young child, and I can not fault the staff. Aside from one occasion when the doctor was dismissive of my concerns about my young daughter, the professionalism and friendliness of the staff has been amazing. They are clearly under pressure, the waiting times can be horrendous, which is not their fault (and is not contributing to this star review) but they have always maintained a cheerfulness despite being overworked. I have been in A&E, the Acute Assessment Ward, Minor Injuries, several different wards in the hospital, had CT and MRI scans, and had two orthopaedic operations. From the nurses, health support workers, physios, doctors and consultants, catering, cleaning, porters, everyone has been lovely. The only not great experience I had was on the maternity ward where some of my concerns were dismissed, however this has been addressed (and was partly due to lack of staff).

Been sent home and told to go miner injuries in the morning after being tossed by trainee so called nurses! If I could I would give 0 stars, nurses are disrespectful and the duty of care is absent. Conflicting messages with no leadership, negligent behaviour and the worst health care I have encounted in nearly 50 years. Will be taking it up with a letter to the Health Minister, I would recommend anybody who comes across this type of awful service to contact your MP and the Quality Care Commission.

Sent to A&E by GP for medical emergency which required an urgent MRI for suspected Couda Equina. GP had phoned A&E explaining the need for urgent attention. Triaged by a very impatient and rude nurse after an hour but not seen by a doctor for another 8 hours, then sent home after midnight. Returned following day for MRI which thankfully came back clear. The doctors I was seen by were cheerful despite working under immense pressure. The NHS and adult social care is broken as a result of lack of attention by Government over the past 30+ years! The one star reflects my experience at Airedale on 27/11/23 - unacceptable but not the fault of the healthcare professionals on duty, all but one were fantastic! All previous experience at Airedale has been 5*. I will be writing to my MP, they’ll be electioneering soon!!!!

Since my first admittance 26th December 2022, the staff at Airedale have saved my life at least five times. The surgeons, consultants, nurse practitioners, nurses, support care workers catering staff, porters, cleaners are like a family. They work as a team, and I am so very grateful to them all. I've been in A&E, ICU, HDU, AAU, ward 7 on a few occasions and consistently the staff have always done their best. Thank you!

Last time I was an inpatient it was 1987...so after hurting my wrist snowboarding and leaving it 2 weeks, not thinking it was serious...I rang 111 on a Monday evening, GP Tuesday morning and directed straight to A&E. In and out in less than 2 hours. Triaged, xrayed and then put in a cast for a fracture. Phone call next day to book me into the fracture clinic on Friday. Attended fracture clinic, repotted, re x-rayed and seen by the consultant twice in less than an hour. Excellent service from everyone. Excellent

Took the doctors weeks to do testing only to find out my partner had cancer and then another few weeks to find out she had a second kind of cancer. Still waiting even more weeks to hear from doctors raj pal and Dr coney in regards to where it is or when is she being referred to oncologist. Been to the AAU unit multiple times for extreme pain and vomiting 5 + times a day. She can't even keep sips of water down only to be told to wait. No help whatsoever with anything she's just been left to suffer for weeks on end.

Visited gynacology colpscopy clinic. All the staff I spoke to here were very helpful and the Dr and nurses were great. The Dr even went through some previous test results to explain things fully to me, I felt really listened to and reassured about my concerns. I had a minor procedure which I would have found a bit distressing (not painful but invasive and a little uncomfortable) had it not been for the Dr and nurses fully explaining step to step what was happening and keeping me informed of what to expect during and after. I arrived early as I heard that parking was an issue but I didn't find it be the case at all, it was a little busy when I left but there were still spaces.
