For
most
of
2023,
my
husband
and
I
have
been
visiting
Echo
Lake
Park
for
the
beautiful
nature
and
entertaining
wildlife,
but
nothing
prepared
us
for
our
trips
this
October.
Not
only
did
we
get
to
experience
the
peak
of
Fall’s
breathtaking
colors
all
around
us,
and
reflected
in
the
lake,
but
we
were
visited
by
the
most
magnificent
Great
Blue
Heron
on
one
occasion.
We
stood
there
speechless
with
our
cameras
for
several
minutes
as
the
elegant
bird
strolled
before
us,
hopped
onto
a
railing,
and
eventually
flew
away.
We
were
so
grateful
to
have
the
opportunity
to
snap
so
many
closeups
of
this
handsome
fellow.
Personally,
I’m
a
duck
fan
-
I’m
in
love
with
their
waddles,
their
webbed
feet,
their
quacks,
and
most
of
all,
their
unique
and
gorgeous
coloring.
When
I
was
taking
these
pictures,
someone
else
was
feeding
them
(we
don’t
feed
any
wildlife
when
we
visit).
The
Canadian
geese
are
also
a
joy
to
see!
There
is
a
loop
for
walking
around
Echo
Lake
that
does
diverge
onto
another,
longer,
twisting
path,
but
we
haven’t
explored
that
option
yet,
since
we
spend
so
much
time
on
the
main
trail
watching
wildlife
and
taking
photos.
Throughout
all
of
our
trips,
we
have
witnessed
the
following:
snapping
turtles,
box
turtles,
hawks,
ospreys,
various
fish,
a
green
heron
along
the
back
of
the
lake,
cormorants,
snakes,
butterflies,
tadpoles,
and
various
songbirds.
Invariably,
we
will
need
to
avail
ourselves
of
the
public
facilities,
and
each
and
every
time,
the
restrooms
are
stocked
with
soap,
clean
and
tidy,
and
the
air
dryer
works
just
fine.
Families
gather
and
celebrate
birthdays
and
other
special
events
at
the
playground
to
the
right
of
the
lake,
and
it’s
fun
to
see
everyone
running
around
and
enjoying
themselves,
taking
pictures,
and
shouting
and
playing.
Often,
we’ll
see
dogs
walking
their
owners,
and
sometimes
the
other
way
around.
It’s
safe
to
say
that
everyone
we
see
at
Echo
Lake
is
having
a
great
time!
