A worthwhile visit in Anjar although not in the same league as the ruins in Baalbek and Byblos.

Really interesting historical site where you see how the Roman, Byzantine and Omeya culture/architecture mixed... major part of it on ruins but you still get an idea of how it was. If you are in Lebanon, it worths the visit

Not to be compared with other city ruins in Lebanon, like Baalbek, Byblos and the like, but it definitly worth a visit if near Anjar. Consider a couple of hours for a full visit.

So interesting how the city was laid out! I wish the signs were at the beginning of the site though. I recommend coming earlier in the morning to enjoy the breeze while exploring. I'd say it's better to put it in with touring other local sites. Such friendly tour guides too!

The Umayyad ruins in Anjar, offer an incredible historical experience. The are recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The well-preserved site provides a fascinating glimpse into the past, showcasing intricate architecture and rich cultural heritage. Exploring the ruins was truly captivating. Tickets are not expensive at all and available at the entrance.

I visit the ruins every now and then because I love it so much. I would recommend going later in the afternoon to avoid the harsh sun and heat but it’s a beautiful and well maintained history piece in Lebanon that everyone should explore.

After a relatively long drive with few traffic jams, we reached the area of Anjar Citadel. Parking was available free on the road side. 3 prices for tickets, Lebanese residents, non residents and foreigners. We want in, going around the ruins, unfortunately the place is not well maintained and it’s beauty and value has not been unearthed fully. Despite that you can still appreciate the place and imagine what was it like during its glorious days.

one of the very nice historic places in Lebanon, and is near Beirut. it was not well preserved and the largest pieces of building is well torn apart. i suggest visiting during a clear bright day, so can have a clear view of the surrouundings. this was part of the Umayyad caliphate dated back several centuries. Some restaurants are also located near this place and everything is nice and affordable!

Really cool place. Take a map at the entrance. Very cheap entrance fee. Very well maintained. You could spend hours roaming around if you’re into history and archeology. Bathrooms were also very clean

A very nice ancient city to walk in and spend 1-2 hours. The pathways are all hard mud, and so good foot-wear is recommended. There are plenty of spots to take good pictures at. There is good parking outside. Don't expect a restroom or stores to buy snacks and water here.

A very ancient and historical site that isn't well preserved... the architecture of the ruins is amazing but such place deserves much better maintenance and cleanliness... despite this I would still recommend it for history lovers and tourists...

They built a whole magnificent city only to destroy it by themselves 30 years later, due to infighting between siblings. The great Einstein once said 'Never underestimate the stupidity of mankind'. It was one of the best ruins that I visited. You can still see the magnificent structures, masterful architecture and meticulous details. Read about it before you visit it, for the signs are few and far in between.

Its a big place. From the left side there are entire buildings standing, and you can enter some of them. There is a watch tower that you can climb. The palace must have been amazing back in the day! 3000 per person with no guide, but they said they are going to raise the price. Sunday morning there wasn't any visitors and we had the entire city to ourselves.

8th century beautiful and very interesting palace-city of ancient times! Built in Umayyad period, the stones and colors shows the Umayyad civilization. Rectangle area surrounded by walls with 40towers! It has the architects elements of the Roman era. The site is well maintained except that it needs some signs. Visit worth 1hr stroll around the area.

Very nice and historic place. Ruines are well preserved. Bring a cap on sunny days. Entrance is 1 Usd for locals. You could enjoy a camel and or a horse ride. Directions are not very clear. Better ask for directions.

Very nice place! It takes you back tothe time of its pride. Most are ruins but it has a good feeling to it and leaves a lot to your imagination. Its filled with geckos which is cute in away. It has a nice forest next to it. A great place to take a walk and let go! I highly recommend visiting it.

Amazing place, historical and great and beautiful, I suggest to add a small cafe or a reasturant in a place through the empty areas

Anjar is UNESCO World Heritage Site from 1984. Most of the ruins are from 600 shops. This may be one of the first malls.
