Not sure how long this restaurant has been open, but it is obvious they are still experiencing growing pains with food quality preparation. First the outdoor space is very nice as well as the indoor decor. The margarita and red sangria were good but next is where things went south. The plantain slider with shrimp appetizer looked delicious but the plantains were dry. What compounded the problem was the appetizer came with the entrées at the same time. By the time the appetizer was finished 2 of the 3 entrées were cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. They were the grouper filet with coconut sauce with vegetables, which did not have a coconut flavor and was salty. The other appetizer was mofongo, with pressed plantains with garlic and herbs and Dominican fried chicken added. Again, the plantains were very dry without any flavor and the fried chicken had more bones than meat. Yucca fries were just ok. Everything was acceptable except the food which is why you come to a restaurant is the food.

Tamarindo has only been open two months at the time of this review. The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars is that it took a long time to get our food. Once they work out the back of house Tamarindo will be a solid 5 star. I ordered the mafongo and my wife had the whole red snapper. Both meals were fantastic. We also included in a few drinks, and each one was a treat. The bartender ls take their time to put together a very good tasting drink with a presentation normally reserved for resorts and upscale bars. The prices were surprisingly good and the atmosphere was filled with energy. I will definitely be back and look forward to seeing this new restaurant become an amazing gem. Coming from Charleston, I will miss this Latin cuisine.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing everything was! The food and drinks where top notch and as a Dominican, this took me back to my homeland. We tasted almost every single appetizer and it was all well above delicious. Other recommendations: the steak with Chimichurri Sauce and the Paella. For drinks; Frío Frío and Tamarind Margarita. My entire family will be back soon, I can’t express how well needed this was in Simpsonville and the location is everything!

I truly wish that this Dominican food restaurant could better represent the warmth and hospitality that Dominican culture is known for. It would be wonderful to see this establishment embrace the friendliness and welcoming spirit that characterizes the Dominican people, as it would undoubtedly elevate the overall dining experience. I recently dined at this restaurant, and it left me with mixed feelings. The establishment had a lovely theme, and it was impeccably clean, which was a good start to our evening. However, our experience was marred by several disappointing aspects. Firstly, we had to endure a lengthy 35-minute wait to be seated, despite informing the staff that we were ready. The delay was attributed to a shortage of staff, although the restaurant was nearly empty. Unfortunately, no one attended to the entrance promptly, which was frustrating. Also another 50min to a hour after we ordered the food. We decided to order the big paella, a dish meant for sharing. To our surprise, the restaurant failed to provide individual plates for us to enjoy the meal together. This made the dining experience less enjoyable. Moreover, obtaining simple items like napkins proved to be a hassle. Another letdown was the limited availability of items from the menu. Some of the dishes we had in mind were unavailable, which restricted our choices. To make matters worse, when we requested containers for our leftovers, the restaurant couldn't provide them. For me the inconvenience that let to the final straw was when I order a cafesito (coffe/desert) and server came back from the kitchen with the news that there was no coffe... In summary, the restaurant had a nice ambiance and was exceptionally clean. However, the service left much to be desired. I hope these issues can be addressed to enhance the overall dining experience for future customers.

We took my mom here for her birthday. It was a big party but they took great care of us, didn’t rush us, and the food was excellent. Great spots for pictures too! The atmosphere is really cool. Highly recommend!

I came here with coworkers for lunch the other week. The decor is the first thing that hits you upon arrival. It's clear that they've put effort into making this place an experience, and both the exterior and interior reflect that. The food is wonderful with some very unique flavors that complement each other quite well. The menu was simple but varied, and our orders came with a light salad and some of the best fries that I've had (not super crunchy with some fluffiness inside). The cuban sandwich I had was just the right combination of meat and cheese between crisp slices of bread. If you want to add some color and flare to your meals along with great service, this is the place to go!

Update: Second visit here and it will be our last time. Brought my wife and mother-in-law for an early Mother’s Day dinner. The food was amazing but our drink and service was left to be desired. We placed our order with one server and two other people came by to ask us if we ordered and one said he’s our server. But he never came back and our food took forever to come out. We didn’t get our utensil until we were 1/3 way done with our meal. We would ask a server and they said they would bring it back. We didn’t get some napkins until we were done with our meal. Definitely will be back to try other dishes and drinks. Our server Bella was awesome! Will recommend our friends and family to try Dominican food here first.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. The ambiance is nice and inviting. But the service! The service was top notch from start to finish from all of the servers, the manager, AND the bartender. I will definitely be back for the empanadas and drinks, and I will highly recommend Tamarindo to whoever needs the push to give this place a try. 👌🏾

Overall I give 5 stars. Service, vibe and food was all great! The patelitos where good, came with beef cheese and chicken, chicken was the best one. The plantains were cooked well, just needed some salt but not a big deal since you can add it. The drinks are also good, a good amount of alcohol in them compared to most other places who’s drinks usually taste watered down. They also have a nice outside area, great for spring/summer time. Overall a really good place. I will be coming back!

My experience here was not bad, but it wasn't great. I made a reservation for 2 people at 7, and although parking was a bit of a challenge, we were seated within a few minutes of arrival. We were seated at a corner table near the bar, but it was in direct view of the kitchen and right next to the bathroom. We moved to the bar for dinner because we didn't want to be near the bathroom. The bartender was pleasant and somewhat attentive; service overall was okay. I ordered the mofongo with steak; I asked for medium well, but for the most part it was cooked well and very chewy. The chimichurri was tart and peppery, and the mofongo was a bit dry. My Frío Frío drink was decent. Overall, I don't feel it was worth the nearly $50 I spent. I expected a little more considering how popular this restaurant appears to be on social media.

We had an impromptu late lunch here. Paella was HUGE and made to order. My flight of margaritas were delicious. Staff was courteous and knowledgeable about the menu. Would definitely eat here again!

If you want to enjoy a nice evening, this is a great place to do it. From atmosphere to freshness in products, all the way to decoration and dish presentation. Loved the Mofongo with pork and Mojito sauce; it was delicious. I was told that after 7pm you can dance latin music too.

I love this place and the food. Everything looks very nice outside and inside. Perla is wonderful and made sure me and the people I was with were okay while we waited. She made sure to tell us everything that was going on so we didn’t just wait and not know what’s going on like some other places. I wish more restaurants had a person like her working there.

Experience Tamarindo I have experienced Tamarindo with all of my Senses. From the first time I walked under the beautiful arches to enter into a recreation of the Dominican Republic and viewed the beauty of the hand painted murals on the outside walls, I experienced Tamarindo. As I entered the front doors, I continued to see the beauty all around me with the murals, flowers and swings. I hear the sounds of Dominicans speaking, the laughter and joy from customers and employees alike and the personally selected music. I smell the scents of the Dominican food and it’s lovely. I taste the flavors of the Dominican Republic. These are flavors that are from Dominican spices and foods, prepared by Dominican hands and brought to you with love. Lastly and my absolute favorite Experience is the feel of the Dominican Republic. How does a Dominican Experience feel? It feels like fun, happiness, kindness and family. Yes the Dominican feel is also relaxed. This is not a quick in and out restaurant. This is a Dominican experience. And most importantly, I feel loved. Please come experience Tamarindo with me. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.

This is a very nice Latin restaurant. Great atmosphere, food and friendly service. They want to take care of their customers. Would highly recommend but don't get too excited if you experience a delay in the arrival of a dish here and there. Well worth enjoying the evening. Reasonable prices for what you get.

First off, I truly didn’t expect a lot from a Dominican restaurant in South Carolina. I was blown away by the atmosphere, Juan our server was outstanding, and the food was excellent. Problem was I didn’t really get what I wanted. Several mix ups in the kitchen and miscommunications on what we ordered and what was available, I ended up ordering a sandwich, which was great, but not what I came here for. I noticed a couple of other tables having to look at the menu again after ordering to order something else. All that said, we will try again, and hope that the kitchen can deliver.

My hubby made date night plans book it and everything. We walking in said our name and they looked at us like y’all are going to have to wait …. Then ummmm ok we can seat y’all….. sat down waited 25 mins for a server she took our water order and alcohol beverages ….. another 35 mins passes we finally get something to drink…. She did not ask if it was our 1st time or anything to help us on ordering….. then she went missing for a while she only had 3 tables…: we ordered empanadas… they were good! Then my hubby ordered the surf and turf the shrimp was amazing…. The stake was very chewy and not very good…. I ordered the salmon mashed potatoes and vegetables….. the salmon was wayyy under cooked… mashed potatos don’t even know how to explain it …. Taste like nothing… the veggies were so undercooked I could not put fork in them.. and no flavor… my blackberry margarita was amazing tho… but I don’t think we will come back…..
