they offer a tour through AirBnB experiences that is an amazing look into the history and process of creating daoist statuary, as well as a glimpse into the wonderful family behind the past remaining shop in Singapore making these figures by hand

Probably the only shop left in Singapore that still makes effigies (statues). Since the old days, Chinese temples and homes would commission or buy effigies from this shop. The shop is now also open to workshops to know more about the art of carving kimsin (the Hokkien term for the effigy). To know more about local Chinese customs and beliefs, this is one of the great places to visit.

Attended "Where Gods Are Born" tour today conducted by May Hui. It is so interesting and insightful. To be frank, being a free thinker, I have bare knowledge about the stories of deities and demons other than Journey to the West because I have seen so many drama serials and movies on this famous folklore. But this tour is really an eye-opener. Say Tian Hng, a shop of more than 100 years old and probably the last shop in Sg which is still making effigies has so much history and stories to share. The workmanship is very remarkable and the owner is very friendly and willing to share. Would highly recommend everyone to pop by this shop to check out what it has to offer. Say Tian Hng, a truly Make Passion Possible brand 😊

Had a fantastic experience at both the walking tour and workshop. The storytelling of the guides were engaging, entertaining and educational. This is a rare opportunity to discover and experience a local heritage brought to life, I would highly recommend this.

We had a great experience visiting Say Tian Hng heritage workshop! The tour was fun; we learned a lot, not only about taoism in Singapore, but also about the craft of sculpting these wonderful pieces of art. I hope this family business stays around for many more generations!

I attended the workshop conducted by May with an open mind. I was intrigued by the stories she illustrated with photos and effigies, and am particularly impressed with her storytelling techniques. It was a lively and interactive workshop, a great way to spend the afternoon and learning much about the trade and going away with facts & knowledge that are unforgettable. The friendly shop owner was game enough to take photos with us :) I highly recommend this heritage workshop!

I attended the “Where Gods Are Born” workshop conducted by their docent. I was fascinated by the engaging storytelling about taoist gods that the shop makes effigies for. It was secular in nature and I felt comfortable learning about the stories and traditional effigy making methods. The shop owners were very friendly and despite the language barrier I felt very welcome and got to see how effigies are made up close. Highly recommend this for anyone who is open to learn about chinese cultural heritage in singapore as a way to connect with roots or deepen appreciation for traditional works of art.

I attended a workshop at Say Tian Hng a few months ago, but it stayed in my mind for a very long time up until now. It imparted me with something very precious - a deepening of my connection to craft, culture and the wider spiritual world. Thank you! :)
