Located along South Bridge Road. This unique outlet was one of the best place to enjoy a cup of tea with traditional Singapore breakfast. Ample seating spaces. You could sit outside to enjoy the natural air and sun. Or to sit indoor to enjoy the cold air. And the best was the option to go to the second level. The second level housed the museum. It was a good experience to view the museum. A lot of traditional stuffs from my childhood, such as chicken bowl, old cashier machine. For the food, a wide range of food, other than the kaya toast, there were other food, nasi lemak, and their unique sesame toast. A great selection of food, not suitable for those who wanted to lose weight. And having your breakfast brought the whole feeling of comfort and enjoyment to the next level! Strongly recommended to go for your breakfast. But please do not go too frequently, because I still prefer this location not to be too crowded. Thanks.

This place is cater for tourist. Food is really so-so and rather expensive. Ordered the wanton noodles, specifically mentioned no chilli but still give. And the chilli is super hot, although the noodle as a whole is still acceptable. Nanyang coffee is the only food that is acceptable over here. The rest of the food you can get it elsewhere easily and much cheaper.

This is designed as an unusual coffee shop that is more like a museum of old times. The second floor is where they have a collection of old world memorabilia so make sure you visit there. Its also a self service place so you need to place your order at the first floor counter and then take your coffee to the table where you sit. Overall certainly a unique and special place that is a must visit at least one time!

Recommended for the food! We came here on Sunday morning 10am and can see visible queue from outside. The fusion menu is interesting. Altho for a start, we ordered traditional taste. Food is great: 1. Coffee egg kaya toast set: 10/10, the kaya toast and egg is the taste of childhood! 2. Curry chicken rice: good, potato and chicken were both tender. 3. Ondeh ondeh: 10/10 also! Gula melaka was rich and not very sweet. 4. Wonton noodle: acceptable. Noodle is ok, sauce taste like indomie sauce, wonton a bit dry, but the chilli is unique and spicy :) 5. Both kopi and tehC were great also. Service/atmosphere were ok but not great. 1. When we reached there, there is a confusion if we should order first or sit first. Then we realise they are using coffeeshop style to find our own seats. 2. There is a section with aircon inside, this is great. Altho the place was a bit cramped, but it was acceptable. 3. We r supposed to return the trays ourselves but there were no such indication, so some foreigners didn do it and some of the tables were dirty. Not the store's fault. Just something they can indicate. 4. Food was fast :) 5. Felt a bit touristy for this location, this price, but thats expected. Overall for 2 people, we spent ~sgd$27, incl GST, no service charge. Only cash/paynow/paylah. Credit card only for spending above $30. Overall, recommended :)

Nanyang Old Coffee is a charming little coffee shop nestled in the heart of Chinatown, Singapore, and it’s perfect if you’re looking for a cozy spot with a dash of nostalgia. The old-world ambiance transports you back in time, making it a great place to unwind. One of the highlights at Nanyang Old Coffee is the variety of drinks and food on offer. From traditional coffee and tea to delightful snacks and local dishes, there’s something for everyone. The prices are refreshingly reasonable, making it a budget-friendly choice. While Nanyang Old Coffee offers a delightful experience, it’s true that they might not have that one “very special” dish or drink that sets them apart. Nevertheless, if you’re in the mood for a good, honest cup of coffee or some comforting local bites in a cozy, nostalgic setting, this place is worth checking out. It’s a slice of Singapore’s cultural history that’s always a pleasant visit.

Though I find the Roti Soldiers serving too little for its price, I did love both my orders. The Kopi O Kosong was heavenly and it is a great cup of traditional Singaporean coffee, I'd pick this cup over starbucks any day. The place is very aesthetically pleasing, and historical tidbits are almost in every corner. Lots of photos for the 'gram can be taken. Next time I visit, I'll try their food and not just the small bites. :) This place is worth coming back to over and over again.

All the taste of the food change: First coffee- the taste of the coffee not like before Siew mai- very salty Sauce- very wet no t like before Siar siew- very dry and hard I think this stock very long time already And most especially the service was not good they’re look like unhappy with the customer. Before we often come here with this shop because the food was all good but now different already when they come again and the service also not like before. If I can be able to put no star I can do it but I don’t have choice, I will never come again Neve.

Ridiculous. Queued for 1 hour and then subsequently waited half an hour just to get my toast and egg. Was waiting patiently but got pissed off when I saw a group who ordered after me get their food first. The service crew didn’t even respond to me when I asked, and just give me a black face. Just go to Yakun that’s just across the street. Yakun is more local anyway and has just as good coffee and toast than this place. They also didn’t have a lot of dishes, just the toast, bun and small dishes.

Good old fashion Nanyang breakfast. The aroma and taste of the coffee definitely brings back memories of the good old times spent with grand parents. The Lor Mai Kai(steamed glutinous rice with meat) is definitely not something I would come back for. It's cold and tasteless Though the coffee smells and taste good, the staff definitely spoiled my morning mood... Poorly trained in the art of F&B services... Spoiled my bright and sunny day with a gloomy and cloudy face. Manners towards customers are definitely a put off compared to the black and aromatic cup of coffee. Please do train your staff to smile more and treat customers better.

Can feel the owner’s passion for Nanyang culture based on the thoughtful displays in the museum. The Hot Coffee, Toast and Egg Set was great, except that the eggs got this 臭蛋味 (unfresh smell). The Chee Cheong Fun was OK. Prices were reasonable. Highly recommended for anyone who loves to learn more about our local history or to reminisce about the good old days, whether you are a kid or elderly, local or tourist.

Excellent shop, and very nice tea and coffee. I have only one suggestion: make the small cup size just slightly larger The small serving cups actually have very thick walls, making the serving size actually smaller than it first appears. This is my only criticism

Located at 268 South Bridge Rd, Singapore 058817. Few minutes walk from Chinatown Station. Always like this place as it brings back many fond memories. Have been to this place many times. Wrote a review this time and hope the Owner will increase salary for all the staffs for working so hard and maintaining the standards of traditional breakfast set and friendly services. I always took pictures of the counter staffs for them to send their pictures home to show their families and also as a form of helping them to keep their memories while working in Chinatown, Singapore 👏👏👏 The hidden gem is on the 2nd level. Don’t miss it when you are there!

We ordered Yuan Yang and Teh C. The drinks are ok and taste similar to those in hawker centers. We enjoyed the rendang chicken rice and asam fish rice. The place is decorated in the 60s or 70s style. It’s a nice place to reminisce about our younger days. Do visit the second floor when you come, it's like a mini museum.

surprisingly nice coffee, very tasty bread and a museum upstairs showing some old relics. must try coffee for coffee lover. tips: tourist should find a seat, read the type of coffee printed ON the table top, so you know what to order, else can be very confusing.

Given the location, it is expected to be on the more pricey side. More of a tourist trap than your typical Ya Kun or Toast Box. Food was so-so. Coffee was decent though

Came here for impromptu breakfast. The setup was interesting as the theme was a typical coffee shop in 70s/80s (suggest to be seated in the 2nd floor). They even have old comics books that customers can take and browse while waiting for food. As for the taste of the food, it is “so-so” for me personally. Conclusion, I would pay for the nostalgic “feeling” but not the stomach.

The first time i visiting Nanyang Old Coffee was by accidentely, after strolling around Chinatown. And surprisingly, Nanyang Old Coffee is one of the oldest coffee shops. Nice place to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. Traditional coffee lovers should come here and enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, recommend ✨

Found this cafe in Chinatown. The ice coffee was was really good! Recommended. Ordered the pork bun, but was served cold. Has to ask warm it up. The pork bun and loh mai kai tasted ok. Self service. The cashier doesn’t give you any receipt. Not sure if this is a normal practise in Singapore.

Good location in one end of smith street. Nice place to gather strength in a beer before you hit the crowded Chinatown, or a nice place to settle down and regain strength after getting through Chinatown. Good coffee too, with toast and egg of course....

I stayed in Chinatown while in SIngapore in early March before the lockdown. Came here to Nanyang Old Coffee a few times for my morning coffees. Like most kopi, the coffee here has a very highly toasted aroma. The coffees I got were served with condensed milk which took away some of the harshness of the coffee. Although ordering a coffee with more condensed milk didn’t make that much difference to the flavour. I’m not normally a fan of Kopi and I much prefer my Arabica, but the coffee served here is pretty good.

Poor service from the 2 person today. 1)when arrive, asked kindly to the 1 of the staff if I am able to put my stuff down first before I scan the QR code. At first I thought she didn't hear me so repeated twice then she took out her earphone and say "what you want?" with an attitude tone and give me a black face like it was my fault to ask nicely. 2) As I was already ordering my drinks with another staff, half way she just say "we closing in 30mins" in yet another rude tone. Why didn't they inform me when I first come in? And wait till I settle down and order half way then inform me about it? I really don't understand why must both staff be so rude and give an attitude tone? When I was just asking nicely and also ordering normally. So far I got no issue with any coffee stall place I went to for my entire life. But only this place seems to have an issue with me. Coffee is good. Services really damn bad

A lot of stores at Chinatown Complex Food Centre were not open so we decided to try Nanyang Old Coffee which was nearby. As I stepped into the little coffee house, it reminded me of the bright Red Building - Stadthuys in Malacca. You are welcomed by the strong whiff of Old Nanyang Coffee which gives you a wake up call and apparently, it’s good for the brain too. I ordered mediocre lor mai gai (glutinous rice chicken) as I am going to have a good lunch later, so I didn’t want to eat too much. While my friends ordered their Laksa and Bak Kut Teh mee sua which are both really good. Top it off with a good cup of kopi and you are good to go and run for miles for the rest of the day. Haha.. Will definitely come by for breakfast again if I’m in the radar.

Was coming early in the morning at 7am with high expectation as the good review from the media. However, the china staff attitude is so bad and not willing to serve us as well. I ordered toast set, which i mentioned twice, " please remove the butter, only kaya would do, and my drink is milo. Then, she make me a Teh O and speak loudly that's what i ordered. But the others customer is supporting me, so ends up she replace a new drink for me. After 5 mins, the toast is ready, but it come with the toast which is with more butter slice and just pretty small amount of kaya(a slide, with 1/4 portion, and only one slice, the other slice is empty toast). Although the bread is toast well, but it's no tasty at all. I ask again the china staff of the wrong order, then she stared at me and show me a "face" and don't willing to change for me and show me like she is very busy in serving in the counter. Hence, this incidence spoiled my whole morning. I definitely will not go anymore, not because of the food, but the staff service.

Been here a few times right at the heart of Chinatown..This is a real retro place to revive your yesteryear. 2 level of seating area to order your favourites local foods and drinks DNT forget to snap pictures of the 50s 60s toys and antiques like food storage cupboard n etc. You will come back again for sure.

Chanced upon an old rare gem, museum (very retro feels) + cafe combo along the Chinatown stretch. Dropped in to the second floor of this coffeehouse (with aircon) and tried out their various drinks (including hot chocolate) ☕️ Not the best I must say, same goes for their toast. But the ambience and price kinda saved it, though not the cheapest but it’s relatively affordable for a coffeehouse in Chinatown! It is also a really good place to chill with friends.

If you want to have a feel of Singapore retro, this is one of the places. You still can enjoy the Kopi (coffee in local terms) and soak in the atmosphere, but in a cooler environment, in the museum upstairs. They have a guide on how to order the various combination of coffee or tea.

Retro style coffee shop! Food and price are ok, recommended bakuteh meesuah. Must try milk tea which containing milo jelly inside!

Surprisingly good toast and eggs. Even better than Ya Kun. My wife and I loved the curry chicken rice. Extremely tasty and tender.

Combine traditional local kopi treat with a fascinating trip down bygone era. Some recognisable, others not. What a gem of a mini museum! One small critic is somehow the kopi standard has gone down recently. Before that, it was my favourite local kopi.

Such a unique place. I love the decor... But my mum will like it too. Bring your parents here!

Love the retro feel, there's a coffee museum upstairs. The food price is reasonable, but taste is normal only. Only order and waiting the food at doorway.

Quite authentic Kopi and Teh. Smooth and not too sweet. A bit pricey for a Coffeeshop drink but the ambiance makes up for it. Chill location to get away from the busy Chinatown streets!

I'm glad Singapore got its very own traditional coffee house and unique museum, all under one roof. Located at the heart of Chinatown. Very old school feel and I love the aroma of the coffee, especially the toast kaya bread. A very good place to chill over a cup of "kopi" after exploring around Chinatown. Highly recommended👍🏻👍🏻

The coffee does not warrant to sell at a high price $2 taste so so n the Kaya butter toast worst. Better put the money at the maxwell hawker where the coffee black tastes good @ 80cents.

It's a quiet cafe with non-aircon area outside, level 1 and level 2 area. The decorations are a throwback to the past and worth a visit. Food is a mixture of spice, a fusion chicken rice, bak kut teh (herbal pork ribs). Coffee is the normal traditional fare.

Awarded the best singapore traditional coffee, must try 👍

Do give them a try if you are around Chinatown. Their nanyang coffee is definitely more fragrant and smooth than the other popular toast brands.

Didn't know that there's a hidden level 2 here despite coming here multiple times. A great place to chill with your friends over coffee and tea. Love the old school vibes at level 2.

Had breakfast in the early weekday morning (8am). Not much people at that time, quiet & nice environment. Whole place painted in red. 2nd level decorations full of old times feel. Coffee is very traditional local type, recommend to upsize for 20cents more as the normal size might not be enough for those coffee lover. Price slightly higher (kaya toast set w/half boil eggs) compare to those popular coffee house. But still worth it for that kind of ambience.

The food and drink are quite unique as compared to commerical ones like Yakun or Toast Box. Worth to give it a try but it is more expensive than the other and the waiting time is much longer. While waiting, you can visit level 2 for the museum for old school items.

Went on Singapore National Day (9 Aug) and we had to queue for about 20 mins to take order and make payment first. A queue buzzer will be given to you and you collect once the food is ready. The dining area on the first level was quite empty, with patrons sitting mostly on the second level. Nice food, very Singaporean and suited to our tastebuds. Will be back again.

This is a traditional coffee shop of Singapore. The place is small but busy most of the time. Do try Kopi with Chiffon Cake 🍰. It is one the best spots open up quite early in the morning.

Very nice and accommodating staff/s and owners. Very patient with foreigners. Usual trend is when a place gets recognition/ popularity, price increases. But this place, maintains standard level of food and service for a very affordable price. Especially the set meals. It's a waste that I was not able to dine upstairs. I wasn't able to check before i ordered. But if you'll go there, i suggest dining upstairs. Good ventilation and cozy. Downstairs (inside) was a bit dim and a bit meh. I guess it was a bad choice for me. I also bought powdered milk tea. I hope it will be worth the souvenirs for my friends back home

This is another gem in Chinatown! ☕️☕️☕️ I was looking for a strong coffee after having a lunch around Chinatown. And luckily I found this as suggested by Google Maps. The coffee was strong as I liked it, and they used a very conventional process of making it. There are selections for coffee and for tea as well - with milk, with sugar& milk. There is a mini-coffee museum upstairs too. Is this related to the Nanyang in the Philippines?

Wanted to try Nanyang Claypot Coffee at first but the stop was temporary closed. Didn't want to be disappointed, so I went to this coffee shop. I ordered traditional Nanyang coffee, and the taste was authentic. The durian coffee frappe was also unique. It's worth a try.

I visited this place every morning as it was really close to my hostel during my stay in Singapore. I tried the coffee, dumplings, rice with chicken curry at this place. The coffee was really good but the food and the service was very disappointing.

We always look for local restaurants when visiting different countries. This was the first place where we had breakfast and ended up having breakfast each day until we were there. We ordered half boiled eggs, a roti soldier, and toast. Everything tasted so good and different from what we eat in our hometown. Coffee with condensed and evaporated milk was just the perfect end to our breakfast. They also have a museum at the second level. This place is located in Chinatown and very close to the Buddha and Hindu temple and also the Maxwell train station.

Stumbled across this gem. Kaya toast is fresh and not drenched in butter (like typical kopitiams) so it’s healthy. The Chee Kweh is also light, not oily and the chilli is sharp and aromatic. The coffee tastes good and not too sweet. Overall a pleasant eating experience in Chinatown.

Good place to hang out. Nice decor. The place was not crowded when I visited around 2pm. Most of the customers were tourists from China. Just one or two local customers. Recommend to order Cryolava drink with chocolate jelly! Drink is reasonably priced. Will visit again during my free time 👍

Good spot to have breakfast. The toast had a great balance of jam and butter. It went well with the coffee. Not a fan of the egg. Overall a good spot to people watch and have breakfast👍👍👍

Alot of nice things to look at when you head up to second floor, very antique. Great that they provided fans, can't really feel the aircon when dining here. However, there is a seated aircon area at the first floor that is working very well. Food wise really is so so, this place is more for tourist and the ambience 😃 However the chocolate drink tastes super diluted & the egg white was rather raw....

Attended their coffee workshop, the speaker shared many interesting history and facts about the Singapore local coffee shop scene from the past to the present. Got to try hands on and made our own coffee. The coffee was really good, smelled good and taste even better! They served us some snacks as well. Really liked the kaya butter toast and the half boiled egg as these are the traditional local breakfast. Other than coffee and toast, they have a wide variety of local food on their menu. Recommended to visit them for some coffee and local food if you are in Singapore and within the area!

Traditional coffee, rich strong and fragrant, but its tasting note and aroma didn't stand out from other traditional coffee shop like Y***n, etc. So i wont go back for its coffee, BUT I'll go back for its Minced Pork Mushroom Noodle! Al dente noodles, unique and delectable seasoning that stands out from the other minced pork noodle. The chilli sauce added really packed a punch, and elevated the overall taste, really yummy! Didn't enjoy the char siew but the wanton is good. Roti Soldiers, strips of crispy grilled bread, seasoned with seaweed (i think, cause I can't taste it), and sesame, is pretty good given the savoury sesame dip. Worth a try for its novelty. Still prefer the old school Kaya Butter Toast. Kaya not the most fragrant, and as usual, more butter is appreciated, haha! I'm a huge fan of butter! 🤷🏻‍♀️ All in all, enjoyed the nostalgic vibe at this Coffee Museum, given plenty of things to look at and a chance to reminisce the good old times... Will go back to try its pretty extensive menu of old sch breakfast/lunch dishes. Was there early around 830am on a Wednesday, and my second round of order actually met a queue! But the staff works pretty fast. Serves fast too!

Visited during the month of January, a perfect period to visit! Nanyang Old Coffee in Singapore is a charming and nostalgic gem for those seeking a taste of traditional Singaporean coffee and snacks. This cozy establishment exudes old-world charm, transporting visitors back in time with its vintage décor and ambiance. The kopi (coffee) served here is robust and rich in flavor, offering a delightful caffeine fix. Don't miss the kaya toast, a local favorite that perfectly complements the coffee. The staff is friendly and adds to the overall warm and welcoming experience. Nanyang Old Coffee is a fantastic spot to savor the flavors of old Singapore and is a must-visit for those in search of an authentic and unpretentious dining experience.

The plain coffee without any milk nor condensed milk is vegan friendly. It only took $2 a cup of the vegan coffee, then can take a seat and chat. There is “old style” daily life collection of the past sg generation demonstrated on second floor.
