The introduction of their plant-based menu has made this outlet a really appealing place for my family of meat eaters and vegetarians. The food was expectedly good, and the service was excellent. The attentiveness, professionalism and hospitality of the service staff tonight (17 Apr) was top class. We give a 4-star rating for the plant-based menu โ€” we had the buah keluak fried rice, king oyster curry and tempeh goreng.

This a new Violet Oon restaurant with grill concept. The satay was exceptional. We ordered one pork satay and soon needed to add one chicken satay because it was really good! Other food stay true to Violet Oon high standard, we ordered the Barramundi with pineapple and ginger which was fresh and flavourful. The Chap Chye taste like home with its subtle taste that complement other flavourful dishes. I am not particularly really fond of their dessert, but This restaurant can still easily earn 5-stars from their delicious food.

We went to try out the new plant based menu, and the experience and food was terrific. As you can see from the pictures, all of the food is beautifully presented, and the dishes didn't just look good, they tasted good as well! There were a few that stood out among them though: the Cauliflower Sambal Tumis was my favourite, to the point where I saved the last piece until the very end! Also the Kunyit Lemak and Nasi Goreng Kangkung were also very tasty in my opinion. The decor of Violet Oon feels modern and classy at the same time. It's a great spot to go on a date to impress, or a small group of friends to have intimate conversations. The staff are also fantastic and we never felt like we were left wanting for anything at any moment. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed my evening and will absolutely be coming back for more.

14 Nov 2018 - my first time in Singapore, my first meal in Singapore.... I probably shouldn't have eaten my first Singapore meal here because now all other meals will be compared to this one.. It was DELICIOUS! The staff is very attentive and the quality of the food is VERY high. I don't think it's possible to order bad food here, everything looked excellent on all of the other tables around us. I wish we could have tried everything!

As a restaurant bar, the decor, dishes and services are all pretty good. Location is convenient as it is just off the road. The satay are pretty well seasoned, grilled, and presented. However unless you are particularly into having satay while drinking, you probably would find this place a bit over priced. If you are simply looking for satay, you probably would find many other options in town. Beef rendang and nasi goreng are two dishes that personally I liked from the menu. The restaurant probably would be a good place to take visitors for some satay and drinks at the same time.

Returned to this eatery after one year... food is just as good though they have stripped down their menu... missed the babi pongteh amongst others. Much quieter than i remembered... hope things will pick up soon for the F&B industry... overall, nice place to go, good food (satay is best!) and good ambience. Does not come cheap though ๐Ÿค

Expect not having a full menu of food dishes like other of violet's branches as this is also a bar. Many of the dishes available are good, especially the satay of any meat choice. Service was good but we were also one of 2 tables only at 7pm.

Had a great Christmas Eve dinner at Violet Oon. The food was amazing. One of the best satay I've ever had also. Service was great and friendly. Cute interior and bar. The only critique is I thought the food came out a little too quick between each dish and it felt a little rushed. Overall definitely recommend stoping by if you haven't before.

I was lucky enough to be seated at a bench which looked into the kitchen where we could see satays cooked in front of us. We actually requested to sit here because our seats which was in a regular dining section was not quite ready yet. This certainly was a bonus for somebody who was looking for a great Singapore experience as we got to see our food cooked and eaten in a very short period of time. The quality of the food I would say is right up there with the great standard experience so far in Singapore and the pricing is on par with Australian prices so there is no Bill shock. I had a pretty good Singapore sling to finish off the evening and I knew I would have to be back tomorrow night to experience other places or try something else on the menu as you never have enough time to get the most out of this area. This restaurant is in a vibrant and safe area and is welcoming for tourists of all varieties just a little side note is that the toilets in most of the restaurants here appear to be in the main street so perhaps take a quick trip before you sit down for your meal and then maybe another as you go between places.

Dinner on a Tuesday. Not crowded and seat space was well spread. However, that didn't shortchange the attentive level of the staff. We were warmly welcomed and both staff were helpful to my father with his check-in procedure. Food was served at a good interval and we were all able to eat at comfortable pace, without having the spread arriving at the same time. We appreciate this sensitivity. The satay, chicken and pork. Both were done very well, to the point. The chicken kept its tender juicy texture after the grill. The spice was well marinated , not overtaking the fresh taste of the meat. Pork was loved by my family, the well layered combination of the charred fat and meat were perfect for them. The sauce was a wow for us all. You won't taste it elsewhere, only at Violet Oon. I can't describe. You have to taste it to believe it We love the rendang meatballs, meatless. My father was taken in by it. Thinking that it was chicken but tasted better than that. The tenderness came with a firm texture as well. Great job. Well, I didn't take the dry laksa due to allergy but my parents found it special, thick and strong gravy to go with the large servings of fresh prawns. We will definitely visit again. Great food and warm service. Thank you for the experience.

Firstly the food isn't as fantastic as claimed. Felt very thirsty after eating. Secondly, under staff makes the experience worst. After the main, waiting time for the dessert took ages. Waited for more than 15min for the one dessert.

Forget it just go to local food court! No braimer. This is over priced, the electro / rock music is just totally killing the little local flavour. Food is super spicy. You have way better food potentialsnin Singapore

Nice place for non-veg only fried rice and one more dish for vegetarian(without eggs). But yes ketchup is tasty and they can make it pure for vegetarians. And most important behaviour of staff is really very Good.

Terrible food, over-rated and extremely over-priced. From the way the menu was worded, it seems to suggest they are serving peranakan food. If it is peranakan, then I think it is a disgrace to the peranakan culture. Whoever thinks this places serves great food, obviously do not know what is paranakan cuisine. Even to claim that it is local food is an insult. The only thing that is nice is the deco, nice enough to attract the tourist so that they can ketok them. Too bad the review doesn't allow me to select zero star.

Seriously the service manager attitude is bad. Keep reminding us to make room for 2nd serving, but our order hasn't fully served. Waited 45 minutes for dessert. Table to table just an inch apart, for the value would expect more comfort dining environment. Only positive point were the foods. Satay is nicely done, just right.

Service was great, I believe her name was Jessy, petite Asian lady. Very attentive and personable. Violet Oon standard is always great and consistent. Really enjoyed the rendang as usual. Wished we had gotten the satay but maybe next time !

We visited the site Yesterday. The place was clean and well kept, keeping in view present Covid-19 situation. The staff was friendly, well trained and experienced. The service was good. The food preparation was hygienic. The dishes were delicious and meticulously crafted and presented. As it was a wedding anniversary party, they clicked a photo and gave us its print, before we left. A wonderful experience.

Tried the new plant-based menu - standout dishes for me were the eggplant goreng dip with emping crackers and the meatless meatball rendang. The meatball had a really soft and lovely texture - somewhat cheesy too. Service was however slow and inattentive, and prices are typical Violet Oon.. pricey Peranakan in a posh setting.

  • 3/5 Poh Soh L. 3 years ago on Google
Tastefully decorated. Great floor tiles. Food wise, over priced Malay/Nyonya food. For $9, I would expect a huge piece of deep fried tofu loaded with delicious peanut sauce. No, we got 6 tiny pieces of fried tofu lying pathetically next to a bunch of finely cut cucumber. For $25, we got a dry laksa with 3 prawns plus many slices of fish cake. The list goes on. The point is, we got it that spices and rempah cost money. But do not take us for a ride. The only saving grace is the beef rendang - spicy and flavourful, but costs $25 for a bowl. At least it was a bowl full of meat though. Locals can skip. Only for tourists or oversea visitors who had not experience any local Malay/Nyonya cuisine before.

Great ambiance. Fantastic food. For service it was a disaster. We sat and waited to be served (for 20 minutes). We ordered the wine but with no glass. It took them half an hour to get everyone a glass. For orders like beer, juice or cocktail we have to constantly remind them or you would never get one. I thought they are seriously understaffed. You can come here with friends. Do not embarrass yourself if you want to impress your VIPs and guests. I would visit the other violet Onn @ national museum. It is far better.

Maybe my expectations were too high for this restaurant under the Michelin Starred Chef, and that I was even more disappointed. The Peranakan restaurant is more like a bar than a restaurant, full of high chairs and connecting tables. It is nonsense to cram 3-4 groups of people in one table whereas they couldโ€™ve just broken to two and give a bit of space and privacy. The prices are way too high for small tiny portion. Services are terrible as you can never get that specific waiter to your table. The restaurant was crowded and super noisy that you have to shout to talk. Food is okay, not too amazing. Only deco is starred, probably.

The renovation looks like a pub but this restaurant actually serves very nice Nyonyaย food. Satay is definitely it's signature dish. Good for small group gathering for a cosy and casual dinner. Given the location and quality of food, one could not expect the price would be easy on the wallet...

Ambience: Lighting was dim, and to make things worse, they tucked us in a corner with the overhead lamps not working. Decor is chic but the clientel is mostly tourists in t-shirts and shorts, or families with kids! Not expected for a 'bar and grill'. Service: food was served quite fast, but could tell they were pre-cooked. Waiter forgot our requests for water and toothpicks even though the place was not full. Had to be reminded. Food: Food is good but pricey. The satay was extremely charred. Grilled squid portion was tiny for the price, and it looked charred by a blowtorch. Was over charred and bitter. Verdict: go for a try once, then go back to the traditional peranakan places.

An impromptu decision to have this for dinner, luckily for us we only needed a table for two so they gave us the bar seat. Phew! The service here is really great, they recommended us a lot of chef recommendations. We had the chicken satay ($15) ? and prawn satay ($20) ?. Each satay was accompanied by its own unique sauce which paired well with each stick. Each serving comes with 3 sticks each and a generous portion of meat too! Both the Kunyit Lemak Sotong ($26) and Beef Rendang ($23) also paired well with the Nasi Lemak Rice ($2). We over ordered and ended up taking away our beef. A fancy place to sit and chill. Will come back for their drinks and sea bass soon!

Very good quality food, decent service, average cocktails. Upper class feel, collared shirt recommended. Value was just okay, felt a little pricey for what we got, but then, that's just Singapore in general. I'd say the satays were definitely worth the visit.

What a disaster! Unsure what happened here, after 3 hours of google research suggesting Violet Oon as a good choice for a celebratory dinner we were very disappointed to find this commercialised restaurant with chicken satay tasting of gas fumes, most popular dish?!, service chaotic, no flexibility for out of stock wine list. To top it off bathrooms were a distance away and in a disgusting state. Couldnโ€™t wait to get out of there. Should have realised when the place was not busy, not usually one to review but this upset our evening.
