Food is ok, coffee is great, and ambience is so-so (back seating is not impressive in comparison to what you see at the shopfront) but at steep prices and crazily long waiting times. It is a bit overpriced and overrated - I did enjoy most of my meal, especially the pasta, but the prices I guess are targeted to the Katong kids 💸 The staff are courteous. When we complained about dry bread for their kaya toast we were met with some resistance and denial at first, but they replaced it with an entirely new set after checking - thanks!

Homeground coffee is a great place for coffee and food. The employees are friendly and cheerful, there’s always the feeling of visiting friends at this place. Their annual lollipop blend release is a must try but hope to see more lighter roast and ‘sweeter’ blends for espresso/lattes. Really liked the apple pie/crumble dessert. Another great part about this place is the Playground where you get to try to make coffee and chat with the staff. It was fun and as always, staff/baristas are super friendly and passionate. They’re busy but I feel Homeground has somehow managed to retain or create a friendly space for both coffee amateurs and enthusiasts to hang out at. Will keep wanting to go back!

Coffee is good, however price is steep comparing with the rest of the cafes around the vicinity. Ordered sunny sides and sour dough bread, nothing to shout about. Will be here if I want a small dose of my caffeine happiness. Ambience is good for a Sunday morning.

Very disappointed. Don’t know why such a mediocre cafe would be rated such highly on google. Not worth half an hour queue at all. 1. Kaya toast is the worst. The bread is dry and powdery; Kaya is too sugary (feels like eating sugar syrup); The butter is too firm. The bread, kaya and butter are not well-integrated. 2. Avocado toast is mediocre. The sourdough bread is as hard as a piece of wood and the avocado chunks were too large. Not recommended given the long queuing time and we do advise the owner to improve the food quality.

Pleasantly surprised when I walked in for a morning meeting. Very spacious, warm and welcoming decor. Love the earthy tone in the cafe. Had the red wine undertone black coffee and was very happy with the unique taste of it. Service was great as the server knows their stuff very well. Highly recommended.

With only my right eye to look around. Right after my 2nd day check up. My wife picked this venue for lunch. Not bright hence comfort my eyes. Banzai to my my wife! ^o^ Nicely build with 2 units merged. Good ambience, spacious. A good limited selection menu which i like, won't confuse a person. Like the pastries too. The Summer yogurts 2 thumbs up while the rest tasted great. My kids love the food. If 3 minutes, i rotate my head 180* to find zero staff on ground. @.@" lacking staff.. management "sugarcane" floor staff to the bone...

visited home ground for the first time because many people recommended it, but perhaps we didn’t come on a good day 🤣 the interior was large, minimalistic and aesthetic, but the service was strange and the food + coffee had hits and misses. walked in at 1+pm and there was no one in front of the queue. a waitress came up and said that they’re full for now as it’s peak period and that we have to scan virtual queue and wait outside to be called. after filling the form, another waitress came out and asked us how many pax, and immediately seated us. furthermore, I only received a call 20 min after sitting, informing that my table was ready, but during that 20 min the table beside me also had new guests seated. in terms of food and coffee, we ordered the laksa pasta and french toast to share, 1 iced white (with the apricot notes) and 1 hot white (pecan chocolate notes ). the laksa (7/10) tasted pretty authentic and sauce was punchy and creamy, prawns were fresh too, but the portion was slightly small for its price ($22 before ++). french toast (6/10) was beautifully plated, but i’d suggest you to add the ice cream because the toast alone (served with the berry compote, passion fruit curd and maple syrup on the side) felt slightly dry and the sauce was too tart. the iced white (4/10) with the apricot notes was surprisingly acidic, both of us couldn’t taste the milk either and it tasted like espresso. the hot white (7.5/10) with the pecan and dark chocolate notes was nice, i really enjoyed that. bill came up to $75~ . overall, the ambience of the cafe was really nice and perhaps i’ll revisit on a better day to try the coffee again and other menu items.

Lovely ambience and great coffee. The food is decent but some after 2 visits, I find that some food items are tastier than others. My personal recommendation: 1) Grilled double cheese sandwich 2) Pork belly with fried duck fat potatoes. Pls refer to captions under photos for other comments

This place has lost its quality. They used to have amazing dishes to pair with their coffee. Now it's just utter rubbish. Take a look at the photo below. What kind of vile presentation is this? Looks like regurgitated dog food. They cut cost on the quality of bread as well. Do not go there for food. Coffee is still okay

Lovely coffee shop on Joo Chiat Road. High quality coffee, great service, and very pleasant ambiance. Gets super busy on weekend mornings, but weekdays are fine. Fancy kaya toast and eggs were excellent!

Chanced upon this place … kind of ‘hidden’ away in an unpretentious shop lot. But walking in, you get a rather different vibe - clean minimalist earthy designed decor throughout. The coffees are great - well brewed with good ratio mix. Didn’t get to try the food this time round. Overall, great place … didn’t give it the full 5 ⭐️ because of the noise (for some reason, noise travels easily around the shop 😥) and the food is rather pricey (to be fair, we didn’t try the food, so unsure if the taste justify the price 😝)

My second visit since they moved here. I preferred the pasta I had during the first time, which I think has changed(?). Friends liked the popcorn chicken and french toast with ice cream. I foresee coming here often, thanks to the location and good coffee.

This is probably my new favorite coffee shop. The service and coffee are great. But the most interesting for me is the coffee beans they brew that's been frozen after roasting. It changes the flavor of the beans. You must visit this if you love coffee.

Love the decor & vibes of this cafe. They have a lovely earth colour Zen theme & with matching colour uniform & even napkins. Makes you wanna come here wearing same colour scheme too. Food was excellent especially the Level Up Kaya Toast & Not so Classic French Toast. The chicken salad & cheese sandwich were delicious & well balanced in flavours too. True blue to their coffees roasters name, the White coffee we had was definitely one of the better coffees in Singapore. Will be back to try other food on the menu.

Decent food and coffee. Good/bad service by luck. Dine in is ok but takeaway is not recommended. Been here twice in 4 days. First time is a weekday brunch (dine in). The experience was good. Staff was quite professional and the food was good. So I decided to takeaway coffee and buy coffees beans after a few days. The bad experience happened in my second visit. While I was ordering my drink, the staff taking order for me was asked to leave by another staff. And the staff taking over was just standing there and being silent so I had to repeat my order again. Then after my payment, I told the staff I will go next door to buy some beans. The coffee was not ready after I finished my purchase next door. My coffee was handed to me at the second time I asked the counter staff. It’s been 17min after I ordered the coffee. I understand filtered coffee takes time. But when I got my coffee, it’s warm (ie. the coffee probably sitting somewhere for a while and losing temperature). There must be something wrong in the process. For a coffee asking for $8 plus, I expect more than this.

Friendly and welcoming staff with a good ambience! Unfortunately, the food and coffee is really quite underwhelming... Based on other reviews that is... I got both Vanta and Ethiopia Beans Iced White and Ethiopia Iced Black. All three didn't hit a spot on my pallet... For the food, we had the Fritata, Breakfast Toast and Two-way pork. Not saying that it was bad... It was good but nothing I would revisit the place for. All in all, really a typical cafe! Not throwing shade or leaving a bad review but hopefully this helps!

Quite liked the food here. Flavourful food with layered flavour profile. Food here is mainly for sharing and is good for groups to try out the different dishes. Coffee is smooth as well. Great service from the very attentive staff.

Baristas and staff were very courteous and friendly. I love their uniform! It really suits the deco and ambience:) Indeed a huge coffee haven! You can get coffee beans (roasted locally) and be your own barista if you want too (: Beans were not cheap by the way. Prices start at $20 for a 250g bag. They also sell coffee wares like thermos flasks and beautiful ceramic cups and jugs, among other things.

The coffee is excellent (ingredients, preparation, presentation - all on point). Good collection of beans with different flavour profiles - so most people should be able to find something that they like! I'm not a coffee connoisseur by any means, but I could actually taste all the tasting notes that the menu description said I would be able to taste! Would definitely recommend trying. Food looks good too, but haven't tried

A lovely coffee joint in the East and I always make it a point to top up the beans for hand brew, as well as the cafe latte whenever I’m in the area. Now that dine in is allowed, the cafe is transformed back to its glory. However, I’m still glad to be able to swing by to pick up takeaways as finding a parking in the area is extremely tough. #andrewtanatomisingapore

Nice good. Nice coffee. Well deserved 5*. Especially like their 'hae mee' (prawn pasta). Full of umani and the prawns were fresh and sweet.

The coffee and "not an avo toast" were good. The avo dish came with sweet potato as the base instead of toast ☺️ Homies breakfast was okay. Mixed berries toast looks better than it taste 😅😅🫠🫠 I loved the vibes and the spaciousness of this cafe though.

I ate breakfast there twice , the food is good But I really recommend to try their filter coffee its more than perfect, I tried two beans but unfortunately I forgot the name or the origin. I bought 3 bags of beans so I can grind my own coffee back home.

Modern cafe with modern menu for the people of today! Good quality food with good enough portions with almost near perfect taste too :)

The ambiance is lovely with its minimalistic design and warm lighting that's easy on the eyes. However, the food was rather disappointing. Despite its appealing appearance, the French toast was let down by overly thick slices and a burnt edge that left a sour and bitter aftertaste. The addition of berries and passion fruit cream only exacerbated the tartness. As for the Turkish egg toast, the chickpeas were the saving grace. Unfortunately, the poached egg was slightly overcooked, and the combination of their red sauce, sour cream, and sourdough bread made the overall taste too sour. The flat white was also lacking, as it tasted quite watered down.

Coffee not meet standard. Could not extract even a single element of the taste note as promised. Lychee tea is nice. Toast is too big and lose balance in the taste. Overall this place is highly overrated and overpriced. Should pay more attention in the details of the product rather than the decorations.

Reservation of our preferred slot was not available so we did a walk-in at 12pm. Registered on the spot and gotten a table for 3 in less than 10mins. Lucky us~ Place decor is minimalist & comfortable, neutral earthy tone is the main color theme. Staffs are polite and attentive. Standard cafe pricing and sufficient selection on the food and drinks menus. No decaf option - to note for those who need Dining time was 60mins but thankfully for us, we were allowed to sit a little longer. Ordered Not an Avo toast, Homies breakfast and Teo Hong Laksa. Teo Hong Laksa is tasty and not too spicy, good match with with a milder flavour Not An Avo toast. Homies is a typical platter of usual favourites. Note that the sourdough toast is an add on.

Love this space. Came on a Tuesday late afternoon for lunch. Wanted to try their grilled cheese sandwich but wasn’t available that day :( French toast did not disappoint though! 😊 Great coffee too. Recommended!

Visited on a weekday late morning, half empty although there are not many seats in the shop. Heard from my friend that the shop is always crowded with long queue on weekend. Enjoyed their coffee, 2 different originated coffee beans provided. Huge varieties of food on menu, ordered the classic breakfast set. Got the milk toast as the croissant ran out. Love the pork sausage and bacon, the sauce is very good. However the poached egg was a bit over cooked.

This place is a gem! They have an very interesting coffee bean lineup, and the staff is very knowledgeable. Their white coffee is very creamy and smooth. Just that the food items are a bit pricy, in my opinion.

Great coffee & great staff. Loved the in-house lollipop blend. Cauliflower was a hit. However the french toast was too dry inside for my liking. Edit: 2nd visit, compared to the great coffee, all the food just didn’t hit the spot

Visited HCR since they were in Joo Chiat and really enjoyed their coffee and Kaya toast. This is the first time we visited their new location. Ordered the big breakfast and Mediterranean breakfast. Both are passable not great. The salmon sausage was interesting but a bit too dry. The maple glazed beacon was a nice touch. Their coffee was still great.

  • 5/5 Jenni C. 2 years ago on Google
It’s a bit pricy but this is definitely one of the best cafe brunch I’ve ever had! The material was very fresh, and the sour dough was baked so perfect and the drip coffee was made so good and flavourful.

Just wanted to share my experience at this cool space I visited recently. The ambiance was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious! However, I have to mention that the wait staff seemed to be a bit too cool for school. Despite that, it was still a great time overall. If you're up for some awesome space vibes and yummy food, definitely recommend checking it out!

A spacious, cosy cafe that’s very nicely decorated and has a very relaxed ambience. Slightly different from the other cafes in terms of how much emphasis they place on their coffee and the brewing process.

Had the Long Black as recommended and it was good! Their coffee is good and I was attracted to the frangrance the last few times I walked by. Avocado Caviar Toast was not bad as well, good portion with the yuzu jelly which gave it a slightly different taste.

Great cup of white coffee. Kaya Toast deconstructed -- not so much. Bacon is also not crispy. But the coffee is definitely worth a try

Wide coffee selection whether it's beans or brew method. A must come for coffee lovers. You can even purchase their own blends and equipment to bring home the experience Food was so so, felt more like eating at zichar, unless that was what they were trying to go after. The best platter was the highlight due to the array of dips, particular the smoked beef fat butter.

One of the best white & black coffee in Joo Chiat! Love how their beans have their own tasting notes, just like red wines. Staff were friendly, attentive and sharp. Managed to get quite a bit of work done on a weekday afternoon! Def will be back!

The coffee is nice with choice of beans and also with a good write up of the tasting notes. Food wise, nice but a bit pricey. The star is the coffee. But will like to try their kaya toast the next time we visit.

Great place to have a meal with coffee, had a great experience there. The homeground breakfast was great, recommend the Pork Trio as well. Tried the Espresso Tonic and the iced white as per recommendations from the barista. Would recommend the Espresso Tonic if you're feeling adventurous!

Bright, conducive, with a touch of rustic. It’s a balance of natural and interior lights. The place was enjoyable on a weekday morning! It’s just a minute walk from Outram MRT exit 4. Easy! Try the fried chicken! It’s yummy with a good portion for 2 people. The whites (coffee) can’t be faulted as it was done so well - both in presentation and taste!

☕️🍴The food and coffee are excellent. 🥩I particularly enjoyed their steak menu, which I ordered medium rare, and they cooked the meat perfectly. 🐓The fried chicken dish was also delicious. 🥗The side salad had a great flavor.

Nice place, I love the beige and neutral tone of this space, very calming and charming. Coffee is great, but the note of red plum is strong and a bit overpowers other fruity flavors that we can taste. Vanta has strong impression of toffee which I expected. I did not try brunch yet but everyone around me did, seems like they enjoy the food and the company. My friend grabbed a coffee bean bag at SGD 35 something, let’s see how it performs in Vietnam later on 🪴

  • 5/5 Skye C. 11 months ago on Google
They have very interesting coffee menu. Surprise me is the barista get to know the customer’s preferences and based on that to suggest the suitable coffee bean. Coffee is good, ordered Vanta with 6oz, great portion and it’s really flavourful when it’s hot. Milk foam is tense and smooth. Tried the brownie with the dried fruits and it comes with chunky of chocolate chips. The dried fruits are a little sour, that makes the brownie not too sweet nor tired of the taste. The wild mushrooms pasta is really nice. The seasoning is good and the mushrooms are well cooked.

Favorite coffee spot when I’m in Joo Chiat! They’ve renovated to accommodate more seats! Tho I prefer the “art gallery” concept previously more. Tried their food for the first time, waited pretty long but prolly short handed.

Comfy and stylish coffee place with a lot of different snacks and bites available. Many different options for coffee (also filter available). A bit on the more pricey side though. Liked the coffee a lot :)

  • 5/5 Cyndi P. 9 months ago on Google
I love this place. The deco Scandi/Muji style, spacious and yet able to seat quite a lot of people. The bar counter is great for one pax, and u get to see the barista doing her magic. The acoustic is great too ie even though there were quite a lot of people it is not noisy like other cafes would get when they have crowds. Food is great too except selection is not wide. Of course coffee is great with Oat milk option. Hope they start experimenting with other non diary milk options and add more to their menu. The boutique section is great for some retail therapy if you need to stock up on your coffee beans and accessories. Service is great too and everyone is so friendly esp the barista always has a smile. Will be back!

Very comfortable place, went there on a Sunday 9:30am, by 10:30am the place was packed with people queueing up outside. Place became pretty noisy after that. Ordered the fried chicken and French toast, it is chicken turmeric and the fresh toast was well-presented and delicious.
