Musee Fin-De-Siecle (End of the Century Museum) is a member of the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium which showcases international art forms popular around Europe at the turn of the 20th century. Museum opening hours 10am to 5pm (Tues-Fri), 11am to 8pm (Sat-Sun) and closed on Mondays. Entrance fee is €8 per person. Alternatively, you can purchase a museum combo for €13 which provides entrance into the Old Masters and Magritte Museums as well. There are nice Impressionist artworks to see at Musee Fin-De-Siecle but what we enjoyed seeing most were Art Nouveau period furniture and fashioned items, many of which were outstanding works by the likes of Mucha, Horta and others. Overall, Musee Fin-De-Siecle is a very good museum if you have specific interest in the Art Nouveau. Otherwise you may want to take a pass. However, if you intend to purchase the Musees Royaux Des Beaux-Arts combo ticket, then give yourself 30-45 minutes to browse through this museum. You may find some things that interest you here. Note: The combo ticket is only good for a single day so make sure you reserve enough time to adequately visit the Old Masters and Magritte Museums as well.

(Translated by Google) ... Probably, the belated regrets about the lost architecture of the 14th-19th centuries played a significant role in the appearance of a new museum in Brussels called Fin-de-sciecle, that is, “the end of the century”. It implies the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries - with a certain degree of conventionality this time can be compared with our Silver Age. The museum opened recently and has not yet been fixed in the tourist mind. However, its attendance will grow inevitably, since it is part of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts. Incidentally, it, along with the Rene Magritte Museum, also opened relatively recently (2009) and is located in the next building. Fans of surrealism, as well as fans of old masters like Bruegel and Rubens, now have the opportunity to purchase tickets to the Fin-de-sciecle museum at the same box office ... However, to meet with the Silver Age here you will have to go underground depth: on the lower button of the museum elevator is marked "- 8". According to official data, 8.7 million euros were spent on arranging the underground floors for the new exposition, and there is a feeling that the entire amount was spent as intended. In any case, modern museum technologies are used here very sensibly, absolutely nothing to complain about. Questions may arise, rather, about the content of the museum. It’s no secret that by the end of the 19th century there were far times in the past when Flemish artists set the tone for European art. What is the organizers of the new museum intended to catch the attention of the international public? It turned out that the curators of the Fin-de-sciecle museum are well aware that their “wards” authors are not well-known on a planetary scale to play the role of frontmen. And therefore they resorted to a somewhat cunning, but quite justified and appropriate method: Belgian art of the last turn of the centuries was connected with more recognizable art from other countries, primarily from France and Great Britain. For example, the work of local classic Fernand Knopf coexists with the painting “The Wedding of Psyche” by the English pre-Raphaelite Edward Burne-Jones, and the works of Hippolyt Boulendzhe, who glorified the Flemish nature, are correlated with the landscapes of the Barbizon Charles-François Daubigny and close to the Barbizonans in the form of the Co-art of Qurfan Charles-Francois Dobigny and close to the Barbizonans in the spirit of the Kempers. Their parallels arise when showing the works of Alfred Sisley, Paul Gauguin, Pierre Bonnard, Auguste Rodin - for each of them is offered some Belgian "sparring partner" ... And sometimes not one ... (Original) ...

Another big part of the Royal art museums is the Turn of the Century museum, with an impressive collection of the best art in Europe from the 1850 to the start of WW1. The exhibition is located below ground on floors -3 to -8 and will take you about an hour in a normal pace to walk through it but I would recommend you sit down and appreciate some of the master pieces along the way.

I didn't know what to expect going down into this museum, but as we kept descending it would get better and better. Each floor got better, culminating on the -8 floor full of art nouveau vases and furniture and stuff. Which includes some Horta chairs. Also, it's got a huge elevator with chairs to sit in to ride back up to the surface. I've never had an elevator with chairs before, so that was pretty neat and a nice ride up to the surface.

An extremely large permanent exhibition that's in the lower floors of the main Fine Arts Museum. I found the exhibition (and the recommended circuit) a little unbalanced, with a huge number of paintings first, followed by furniture and home decor and accessories (tableware, vases, etc). Architecture is represented by a disappointing series of video displays hidden behind one gallery, which are both hard to see (with backlight from outside) and dull. To me, the architecture and interior design, the practical implementation of the art nouveau ethos which is most interesting and innovative about art nouveau. On one hand perhaps it makes sense to rebalance that perspective with a (re)focus on painting of the era, but the unbalance is excessive (maybe 80% paintings and 20% everything else). Also, and this really is personal taste, in a huge exhibition the first entire floor seemed to be of rather dull realist oil paintings, with the more edgy (and to me, more evocative and unique) pieces later in the circuit after I was already tired and a little jaded. In summary a great deal of material (too much) presented in a not particularly imaginative way. Good for students taking a course but a little much for someone wanting to be entertained :)

You can probably skip this one. It's more of an art nouveau exhibition, but quite sterile looking and the audio guide isn't great. There's a lot to see, but I found it a bit unbalanced and not very interesting.

(Translated by Google) Magnificent museum ... several floors below ground. In my opinion, the most recent was -8 ... very good painting from the 19th beginning of the 20th century ... impressionist, post impressionist, modern ... Artists represented by Constantin Meunier, James Ensor, Henri Evenepoel, and Fernand Khnopff, Léon Spilliaert. This is also a place where you can find out about it in the literature, architecture, photography, opera, music, and poetry, Emile Verhaeren, Octave Maus, Victor Horta, Henry Van de Velde, Maurice Maeterlinck, and Guillaume Lekeu. Vincent van Gogh, Rodin, Georges Seurat, Paul Gauguin, and Edward Burne-Jones. Collection of art Nouveau furniture and decorative arts. (Original) Великолепный музей... несколько этажей под землей. The museum itself was giant- about 9 floors, and there was tons of stuff to see. However, it was a bit poorly managed, with the cloak room being very confusing and then having to go downstairs two floors to then find another locker. Worth a visit if you like art and are near, but not something to go out of your way for.

A large and extensive collection of art from around the globe. If your looking for some heavy hitters of the old art world this is the place. It was interesting that as you worked through the museum you would find surprises along the way. One second you were looking at the work of an artist you never heard of only to turn around to find a Monet or Picasso mixed within the group. The cafes inside are also excellent and worth a stop.

Good collection but the museum could do much better expositions, giving more background etc. Now the lowest floor for example is just a set of vases and chairs, why not explain about the artisans who made them, show what houses looked like in that time, why the design was revolutionary, etc

The Muser fin de seicle is dedicated to period of the 1900s. Brussels was seen as the capital of Europe, presenting itself as a unique artistic crossroad, and was also the capital of Art Nouveau. The works on show, of which I have shown only 50 examples, are well worth seeing.

Toddlers are not allowed: No buggies are allowed. No nappy bags are allowed. ( So we had to carry a toddler all the way out to the entrance for a nappy change, not then go back) No toddlers in the shoulders allowed. Of course, without the buggy after a while, the kid wants to be carried. No running is allowed. Our kid got shouted at for running a few steps next to a parent. No sitting on the floor is allowed, I was told by the security staff, that the kid was not allowed to sit on the floor and I had to carry him at waist height. Good encouraging the families to come here. If the collection is also disappointing for a national gallery, they must rely on locals. Bonus point: At the ticket desk I asked for a ticket to access everything, they sold me a ticket that said "all museums" but this did not allowed us into the temporary exhibition. Great waste of time and money for my family.

(Translated by Google) We found this museum disappointing, compared to the other two (Magritte and Old Masters). It mainly presents paintings, as well as Art Nouveau furniture. The works are grouped by periods or currents, but few are really highlighted. And there is no leading work around which the other works could have been articulated. The exception was the very beautiful temporary exhibition, dedicated to the works of Wim Delevoye, which presented among others his pigs, and the machine Cloaca!

The highlight of the musees royaux complex. A single ticket gives you access to all four of them, as I recall, but unless you really want to ruminate over what is, or isn't a pipe, you want to rush straight here. It's a subterranean museum, every floor down taking you forward in time. The art nouveau floor (which is what you really came to see, right?) is at the bottom.
