A disappointment, the walk up to the cross is amazing great little walk. However the views overlooking the cross, is deterred by the uncut trees.

We visited on a misty, cloudy day and because of this, felt like the only people exploring the gardens! We didn’t get the views but it was quite an experience climbing to the top and seeing nothing but fog…!

Sintra is just too stunning and unique-we only went for a day visit but we could have easily stayed for 2-3 days. Very unique views and castles which are all beautiful and well preserved.

The path from Pena Palace is easy to get to and well signed. You can walk there on your own with no issues. I ran into about 10 people on the path in the 20 minute walk there. It’s a bit of an uphill walk but after walking up to Pena Palace, it doesn’t feel like much of a climb. The cross itself isn’t much to see as it’s a replica and the original was damaged. The main reason to visit this is the incredible 360 degree views from the hill. There’s a beautiful view of Pena Palace. To get a decent view you do have climb on top of a few large boulders.

Great view of Pena Palace as a reward for the climb. Much fewer people make it to Cruz Alta, so you can expect to be away from the crowds in the Palace. There's also a similar viewpoint slightly to the west of Cruz Alta with similar views of the Palace that are slightly less obstructed by trees.
