Due to overgrown trees, this place provides you with only the second best view of the Pena Palace. Head to St. Catherine's Heights (Alto de Santa Catarina) for the best view. Image clicked from the latter spot.

You can barely see the castle because of untrimmed trees unless you climb on the cross. Keep in mind the distance between Palace of Pena and your position. Without optic zoom in your camera, you will be disappointed.

Pleasant uphill stroll up to Cruz Alta from Pena palace. Once there, the view was amazing. Unlike the palace, Cruz Alta was not not crowded at all; only a few people there.

(Translated by Google) Breathtaking views over the Pena Palace, almost exclusively as there are not many visitors to this viewpoint. (Original) Vistas deslumbrantes sobre o Palácio da Pena, quase em exclusivo pois não há muitos visitantes neste miradouro.

The route to this spot is somewhat confusing, besides I felt that this viewpoint is a bit hyped. The view of the Pena Palace is blocked by trees so the mini trek was literally for nothing.

Absolutely stunning views. Its worth that short hike from the Pena palace. Make sure to look around to spot the palace from afar.

Rather high up in the park. Great spot to watch the city. But hard to get to for sunrise as the road there is gated. Best for daytime or sunrise.

Like a 15 minute walk from the castle. Can’t even see the castle since it’s blocked by nature. Not worth coming up here unless if you want to breathe hard and see nothing.

After the crowd around the palace, it is really nice to just hike through almost empty gardens and up the hill. The views are mesmerising. Beware, the access is not easy, you have to go up some difficult boulders.

Unfortunately, the surrounding trees are toping this place and you don't really have a special view on the castle, at least not for nice pictures. The way up to the cross is paved and easy to walk, apart from the very last bit which has a few stairs

Beautiful panoramic views from the cross. (Visible from Pena). Stunning walks along the hill line. Large paths and many spiralling small paths for the incurable romantics and explorer's amongst you. Incredible red cedars tower above you and exotic plant species lie await, within the forest. Take snacks and water. A lot of ups and downs to return to the Palace.

Good views of Palacio da Pena. Hard climb. I recommend to go down following a narrow path (with steps, stoned) to the East. After going down a few meters, there is a big rock to the left from where you can see very good views of the Palace (better than from the cross).

Fabulous place from where we have a magnificent perspective of the Palace and the mountain till the ocean. Lose yourself in all the narrow paths which lead you to magical corners, caves, fountains.

It's worth a visit, approximately 800 metres from Pena Palace - I liked this place more because it was not so crowded and touristy. Beautiful, lush plants and trees on the way up - very calming.

Climbing the Cruz Alta (High Cross), Sintra, Portugal 🇵🇹 which was built on the orders of King João Ill in 1522, the cross stands at the highest point in the Sintra hills, (about 528 m above sea level) is worth a sweat as this is the viewpoint to see the enchanting Peña Palace!

Fun to locate it on the map and hike here. This park is kind of adventurous. Makes you feel like a kid exploring again.

This is a bit of a hike from Pena Palace and the view of the castle is partially obstructed by the trees but still cool to see.

  • 3/5 Adil “Adeel” A. 1 year ago on Google
A disappointment, the walk up to the cross is amazing great little walk. However the views overlooking the cross, is deterred by the uncut trees.

  • 5/5 Kathryn T. 1 year ago on Google
We visited on a misty, cloudy day and because of this, felt like the only people exploring the gardens! We didn’t get the views but it was quite an experience climbing to the top and seeing nothing but fog…!

The view from High Cross is obstructed by the lush green trees and we could only see the top of the palace. The walk from Pena Palace is pretty though and mostly shaded.

  • 4/5 J D. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely view point of the castle. Unfortunately , when we went it was completely socked in with low clouds. It would be perfect on the right day. But clouds are often an issue.

If you came to Palacio da Pena, this is a MUST before leaving the premises of the Palace. Getting here is nice, and the views of Portugal from here are breathtaking.

I’ve been to the palace so many times hosting visitors, but somehow missed this. The views are absolutely spectacular and totally worth the short shlep up the hill. This is a must stop while visiting the castle!

  • 5/5 Piotr K. 4 years ago on Google
Worth to go there to have a great view on the castle. The view is better before noon so the sun is behind you when looking at the castle. Quite high but easily accessible for everybody. Quite crowded, you may wait for your turn to take a photo.

Sintra is just too stunning and unique-we only went for a day visit but we could have easily stayed for 2-3 days. Very unique views and castles which are all beautiful and well preserved.

The path from Pena Palace is easy to get to and well signed. You can walk there on your own with no issues. I ran into about 10 people on the path in the 20 minute walk there. It’s a bit of an uphill walk but after walking up to Pena Palace, it doesn’t feel like much of a climb. The cross itself isn’t much to see as it’s a replica and the original was damaged. The main reason to visit this is the incredible 360 degree views from the hill. There’s a beautiful view of Pena Palace. To get a decent view you do have climb on top of a few large boulders.

  • 5/5 Huiyao T. 6 years ago on Google
Great view of Pena Palace as a reward for the climb. Much fewer people make it to Cruz Alta, so you can expect to be away from the crowds in the Palace. There's also a similar viewpoint slightly to the west of Cruz Alta with similar views of the Palace that are slightly less obstructed by trees.

Love this place, gave me Arthur Seat’s vibe. The hike is not too difficult, definitely worth some time going, and view the Pena Palace from another perspective.

(Translated by Google) Not to be done in the company of young, inexperienced climbers. Otherwise, when they get to the top, they risk being too tired to appreciate the view. View that is worth a look. Otherwise, the hike is rather quiet, you feel alone in the world in the middle of an almost lush forest.

  • 4/5 Eve 3 years ago on Google
The cross itself is not that interesting, but the view from the top is good. Probably won’t worth that much climbing, but it’s good exercise.
