Had seen the photos they post which makes the hotel look light and airy. It is not. It is small, dark, and old as you would expect of a place where Lord Byron stayed. We paid 200 euro for a double which was a tiny room with a low ceiling, dark, and windows facing the road. The rooms shown on their website are the suites. We refused to stay there and they kindly reimbursed us.

If your planning a trip to old town Sintra, Lawrence’s is the perfect hotel of old world charm with some modern conveniences. Amanda and her staff were amazing and very helpful. Would definitely go back. Comfortable beds, great water pressure and terrific views. Steps from old town. I ve read other reviews and there is parking under the building around the corner. Don’t listen to these angry people, they must not have asked.

Nice venue, good views from the backside of the hotel. But a bit shabby and creaky. One sad, lonely goldfish in a concrete urn at reception. Stingy on towels and toilet paper. Good breakfast but weak coffee. Nice, ok place, but not 5 star.

Such a quaint hotel. The oldest in Sintra. Easy to get to. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Junior was a big help when we arrived with bags and parking. Wish we were told it was 20 euro to park the car. No mention until checkout.

To be fair, we only had lunch there... but it was pretty fantastic. We walked through the hotel itself and definitely plan to stay there on our next visit... It's the oldest hotel on the Iberian peninsula... Very elegant setting. They weren't busy so we ate lunch on our own private veranda overlooking a lush hillside. Food and service was amazing. Our waiter was very professional. We felt bad because we weren't paying attention of the time and needed to rush things along... Our waiter did a great job of getting everything served in time... Not his fault. It was ours, but he helped manage it... Just because of this wonderful experience, we look forward to actually staying there. And we look forward to going back to the restaurant.

Do not try to stay at this hotel. It’s impossible to get to it and if you are driving a car, beware! They advertise parking and there is none! They also claim to be a 5 star hotel and charge accordingly. I’ve stayed in a number of 5 star hotels and this is, at best, a 3 star hotel and that is being generous. The place is incredibly cramped and is absolutely not worth the money.

We had a great lunch here, tucked away from all the noise and swarming happening close by. Super accommodating staff went out of their way to ensure I have privacy for a remote business meeting. Can’t speak of the rooms as we didn’t stay overnight, but everything else looked beautiful, clean and neat. A bit space-challenged here and there, but what would you expect from a hotel where Lord Byron used to stay…

We stayed here for two nights. As well as the well-managed room, the hotel has absolutely lovely common areas (reading room, lounge, cute garden). The whole place has very classy and romantic atmosphere and I fully enjoyed it. If you’d like to stay in a small luxury hotel with unique charms, this is the place that can meet your expectation. It is located in only about 5 minutes’ walk from the Sintra Palace and there are plenty of nice restaurants nearby. I had a minor issue with my breakfast during my stay, but as soon as I raised a concern, the hotel quickly, respectfully, and very effectively resolved it - sometimes, you can tell more about the level of service by seeing how they deal with an issue, and in that sense, I was very impressed and extremely happy with their service. Definitely will visit here again if I come back to Sintra and will recommend to my friends :D

Lawrence Hotel, Sintra, Portugal is truly unique. It's built in 1764 and is the oldest hotel on Iberian Peninsula. There are only 16 rooms. Fantastic views in every direction. It's a very short walk to every kind of restaurant, shop and historic site imaginable. Restaurant on site as well. Staff is suberb. The only reason I didn't give full 5 stars involve the rooms--you cannot use hair dryer, curling iron in the bathroom due to electrical constraints. There are workarounds. A strategically placed mirror next to a workable electrical outlet would solve the problem. The A/C didn't seem to actually work. It's Mid-September so perhaps it's turned off for season. Still, would highly recommend since positives far outweigh negatives.

One of the highlights of my visit to Portugal, writing this while I'm still in the country. I love the historic charm of the building, Amanda was so helpful and courteous, my room (Bellavista) was comfortable and clean with an exceptional view, and you can travel to plenty of attractions quickly either on foot or by taxi. Food was comparable to anything else I've tasted in Portugal, including some much more expensive restaurants. Only people who prefer modern facilities might not appreciate this establishment, but lovers of history won't want to miss this. You may have to lift your baby stroller/luggage for a step here and there to move through the halls, but they do have an elevator and helpful staff.

Lawrence Hotel was a disappointment. We were here in late November so it was very quiet. It’s not nearly as regal as they portray it on their website, it just a nice old building. We only had breakfast there because it was included, otherwise it was quiet as a crypt. The room we booked had no view and was small. With the place empty, why not at least offer us a nicer room? We upgraded to a suite with a view at considerable expense. Great location in central Sintra, but we wouldn’t stay there again.

This is one of the most beautiful historical place to visit. The nature from my balcony was so beautiful. Walking up with sounds of the birds is fantastic. We enjoyed this lovely place. The customer' service was beyond. We felt very welcome. It is suitable for the family. I loved the library it made it easier for me to work. We will most definetly visit Lawrence's Hotel again!

Great location close to the Biester Palace, National Palace of Sintra, and the Quinta da Regaleira. The bus stop for the 435 and 434 buses are close (though in opposite directions!) so you can reach the Penha Palace, Castle of the Moors, and the Montserrat Palace too. The rooms are lovely and the staff are knowledgeable and lovely.

We were dead-tired from traipsing around Sintra all morning (and Lisbon the previous five days); we stopped in here because we didn't want to comb through all the other touristy looking places in town. Best decision of the day - we were seated in a quiet dining room and the food was amazing. I had a roasted lamb shank with the most amazing sweet potato purée I've ever tasted in my life. My husband had grilled octopus which was equally divine. Dessert was a chocolate multi-layer cake concoction to make you swoon! Our server was extremely friendly and helpful, and just so much fun. One of the nicest meals of our trip.

THIS HOTEL IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. They advertise parking - but have none. I mean NONE. We made a reservation with this hotel BECAUSE of their advertised parking. After a 15 hour flight from the Western US, we arrived in Lisbon and drove to this hotel only to find out that they only have 2 (YES 2 spaces) for parking. Both of these spaces were occupied. We then drove around for 1.5 hours looking for parking (to no avail). We went back to the hotel and they offered to let us park in what appeared to be a dilapidated concrete barn or shed (down a set of steep stairs from the hotel - not near it). After almost hitting the close concrete walls of this structure, I decided that my rental car was at too much risk of damage. So, we left and drove around for another 2.5 hours. Finally (this after 4 hours of driving around Sintra), the day manager, Dianna Martins, offered her parking space (which would be available in another hour). After a 15 hour flight, and 4 hours driving around the narrow streets of Sintra, we politely declined and say “no thank you” and that the accommodations were not as advertised an unacceptable. We ended up going up the coast and staying at the Immerso (a great hotel in Ericserra). The manager gave us her card and said to call if there were ANY problems with the refund but to go through Expedia for a full refund. After doing this, we find out that the hotel has refused our request (this, after directly informing us that there would be no problem). The hotel is a FRAUD. DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I should also point out that, as my wife sat in the lobby, as I drove aimlessly around Sintra looking for parking - 2 other couples were complaining that there was no parking as well. THIS HOTEL SEEMS TO “BAIT “TRAVELLERS TO MAKE RESERVATIONS THEN DOES NOT DELIVER UPON ARRIVAL. I AM CERTAIN WE ARE NOT THE FIRST. AGAIN, DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOUI PLAN ON DRIVING AND PARKING IN SINTRA. THEY HAVE NO PARKING WHATSOEVER (WELL, 2 SPACES THAT WILL CERTAINLY BE OCCUPIED WHEN YOU ARRIVE). I have been to over 50 countries and travelled to all 50 states in the US and this is, BY FAR, the worst travel experience of my life.

Vegan friendly breakfast! We got guacamole for bread, cooked veggies, soy milk and great variety of sliced fruits for muesli, and also they arranged soy yogurt for the next day when we asked for it. The staff was very friendly and the place is delightful. Highly recommend.

We had dinner at the restaurant. Very friendly and courteous service. Good selections of wines. The main dish Bachalau was disappointing.

It is enough to know that the hotel is considered to be the most ancient hotel in the Iberian Peninsula. It was established in 1764. The hotel is a 5 stars hotel on a calm street if the wonderful Portuguese city of Sintra . The services of the hotel are just marvelous. The food of its restaurant is so delicious . It is a place that represents a perfect combination of tradition and modernity

I fell in love with this place! It’s charming and rustic style are instantly welcoming. ALL of the staff we met went above and beyond to make our experience special. The location was perfect for a easy walk to attractions and the town center. A massage at the spa was definitely worth it and a highlight of our trip. Would 100% stay and recommend this place again!

Classy hotel. Friendly staff. Perfect location. Skip the breakfast as it’s not worth it. Also the Bikes are not in working condition.

Had a very bad lunch. Ordered a hamburger but meat was raw and all the rest was just cold. My wife had Taco, duck was not in there, the taco itself was old as well. When we mentioned it they did not really care. To conclude, it was a bad experience.

Musty smelling rooms. Photos look peaceful, but rooms are right on a busy street, which Is not great if you value sleep. Breakfast is poor. Best thing is they have coffee maker in the room. Very disappointing overall. No idea why they say 5 start property.

Stunning food in an extremely relaxed environment..my family and I went just a little further from the hustle and bustle of Sinatra town centre and it was so worth it ! With wonderful service and delicious food that tasted so fresh and light , we ended up spending most of the afternoon relaxing in the courtyard at the back of the hotel , some live jazz music ambling through the trees made it just perfect . Armando was our main waiter but all the staff were smiling and attentive .. can’t recommend this place enough !

Diana the lovely receptionist was incredibly helpful to make sure I enjoyed and for the full treatment my two days here. Andres and Amanda are also incredible charming and capable and made sure i was comfortable. The attention to detail in terms of customer service is such a beautiful part of the experience at the hotel but the most grand of them all is the view and scene area- hotel Itself has an old world charm - which is incredibly unique. Enjoy !
