They call my mother who is bleeding internally, and demand $1,000 as a down payment for surgery that’s in seven days. The appointment was made a month ago and they could have stated the down payment then. Even when billing was discussed before hand and how she was going to pay. Apparently my mother is only worth $1,000 dollars to them. Money or death right?

I came into the ER late at night because of sudden severe pain in my back. Within a couple hours after getting pain meds and fluids through an IV, my pain was gone and I could finally stand up on my own and move my arm after it had gone numb before going there. Doctor also finally gave a diagnosis for the pain I’ve been having in my back after so many years of doctors telling me it’s just a pulled muscle. Yeah, the wait took a while but I expected it, and I’m sure the bill will not be fun, but it felt good to finally have someone believe my pain rather than just writing it off as nothing. Thank you dr j!

Most poorly run facility. Presented for an outpatient visit. Checked in at admission who took all my information. Presented my insurance card and they took a copy of it for my file. Received a letter on the 11 th of July dated July 1, 2022 stating there was a problem with my claim. The problem was they filled with the wrong insurance. Simple problem to fix right? I called the number for billing and after holding for a very long time I decided to leave my number for someone to call me. Never happened. I called today and was on hold for 55 minutes yes 55 minutes. I asked how my primary insurance was wrong on my file or where it even came from but of course no one knows. This is just very poor customer service and a huge waste of my time.

I was recently at this hospital for total hip replacement surgery. The service there was EXCELLENT. From the moment I stepped into the hospital I was met with professional care. From the check in staff to the nurses, doctors, therapists and housekeeping workers did a fantastic job. I would recommend anyone going to this facility to find a personal positive attitude and to prepare to be impressed.

Due to lasting chronic illnesses, I've been in and out of hospitals most of my adult life. Literally 100% of the time going to the competition at Mercy I've had atrocious experiences. From hostile, cruel, and negligent staff...to being treated like a junkie despite a decade free of substances...to doctors refusing to run proper tests, prescribe necessary medication, and even admitting they are intentionally negligent in order to "cut costs." One doctor even filed former complaints against the others because their negligence resulted in no less than four extra trips to the ER in a single week. However over the same period I've had the exact opposite experience at Unity Point St Luke's. Whether the ER, psychiatric side, or peripheral medical operations I've got to admit the staff have been incredibly patient, friendly, helpful, graceful and by far more capable. Especially in the treatment of psychiatric illnesses...despite many patients being volatile, resistant and prone to outburst. Additionally...they seem to ALWAYS run the proper tests and prescribe proper medication; certainly valuing the health and well being of patients over cost and profitability. Not to mention I owe the staff there for my healthy birth four decades past, having saved my life literally when at 18 months I had extremely severe burn damage. Also, when I was homeless, without insurance or means to pay at 20 years old, with severe respiratory illness; they not only admitted me for four days for a safe, healthy place to recover...but staff all pitched in to get me new clean clothing, and enough to pay for a hotel for a week. They DID NOT have to do this...it was far above and beyond the call of their duties and even could have potentially gotten them in hot hot water. I will forever choose this hospital for my needs moving forward. The only negative that negates a fifth star is a recent egregious HIPAA violation while in psychiatric care. While up there they gave out my confidential information to a complete stranger posing as my mother...who has been deceased and cremated since 2015. I still have not been given answer as to why they gave out my information to a person I never met..nor why after I told them she's been dead near a decade...they allowed the person two more times to request my information and even attempt in person visit. As this is my only bad experience...I'd be willing to amend my review, remove the details, and sign an NDO TO not publicize this further or pursue litigation; pending an adequate offer of settlement. This may be directed to me directly as staff are aware of the incident and my contact info. Otherwise HIPAA laws are very serious and violations present not just a confidentiality breach but present potential threat to the one victimized. I look forward to resolving this readily and removing the related content from my review. I sincerely believe this to be an aberration and would prefer to keep unity point reputation outstanding.

I went to the ER at St. Luke’s do to an allergic reaction. It was so bad I couldn’t see and you eyes, mouth, and mouth are all swollen. I couldn’t breathe and they got me in and meditated fast! They really understood the severity of the situation and acted fast! They were kind and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. The nurse got my IV in first try! Love this place! Thank you guys so much for caring for me!

My dad is currently in the ICU here and the nurses, staff, and doctors are GREAT. We can’t say enough good things about them especially his current nurse Cullen. However the gal downstairs taking our coffee order was extremely short, rude, and did not seem the least bit happy. Which is extremely disappointing. Many people are here due to unfortunate circumstances so I feel like she could have been much nicer and more sympathetic.

Please for the love of GOD! If you have a serious medical emergency. Don't go here. Their underqualified medical employees are an embarrassment on anything medically related. Caleb S is a saint and deserves a promotion. Fugly duck Hailey C can gargle my babies and has no business in medicine. Amateur treatment. Slow response. 15 hours of my life wasted. Go to Mercy. You'll get a room fast.

My father in-law was admitted into the ICU and in there for a week, which was a traumatic experience for the whole family. A special thank you to Chaplin Kit for reaching out to us from Iowa to Colorado to let us know what had happened. We drove overnight to get there by morning and the ICU team and the Chaplin were in constant contact. On behalf of our whole family we want to express our deepest heartfelt thank you for the incredible care he was given. I know it's a team effort and we have a special shout out of appreciation to Kristi in the ICU who played an extremely critical role for us getting him home. Thanks again for the extended team effort.

I recently had a stay at Unity Point St Luke’s in Sioux City. Every person I came in touch with was extremely professional, considerate, caring and listened to my concerns. I was on the Telemetry unit and was closely monitored. Dr Edwards explained my condition in detail so I could understand. Sabrina went above and beyond to assist me. All nurses were great. Bev was my first nurse as I came in at night. She was effective and helped me to relax.

On the day after Thanksgiving, November 25, I went to the ER at Unity Point with severe abdominal pain. I am told that historically, this is one of the busiest days of the year for the ER, and it was very full with patients lined up in the hallway. Abdominal pain is one of the most common complaints at the ER. However, as it turned out, I had an extremely rare form of life-threatening bowel obstruction known as an intussusception. In spite of the overwhelming number of patients needing care and the rarity of my condition, the ER physician, Dr. Jeffrey O’Tool, did a fantastic job of diagnosing the problem and directing care to the real issue. Dr. O’Tool was able to contact Dr. Joe Morris, who assembled a surgery team and performed an emergency laparoscopic surgery to reduce the intussusception and remove my appendix within an hour of seeing me. He is a top-notch surgeon who treats his patients as though he was treating a member of his own family. Thank you, Dr. O’Tool and Dr. Morris, for your competent care and for saving my life. My family and I are forever grateful.

On October 30th, 2020, I went in for induction for my pregnancy. I progressed quite well and time mannerly. I was at 8cm around noon to 1pm, I asked for epidural. I received it after two hours lol. But, unfortunately my son wasn’t able to come out. The staff was wonderful and was keeping me in the loop as my mother in law was too. They were mainly encouraging for vaginal delivery. They didnt want me to do C Section but eventually, it was medically determined by my doctor and thankfully, I was taken in for Emergency C Section. The surgeon, Dr. Burger (I think if I spelled it correctly) did wonderful and cut me open as soon I was under anesthesia. He got my son out and safe. Postpartum nurses were amazing and I recommend the Labor and Delivery Services. Dr. Dannerbring is also amazing, she is somewhat associated with St. Lukes. She is mostly at Dakota Dunes Clinic. Kiddo is now two years old and thriving.

Been waiting in the emergency waiting room for over an hour due to my son’s throat is swelled, hasn’t been able to eat or drink in the last 2 days and people are getting in first due to a sprained ankle. Come on now. If you go to the emergency room it should go by the severity but not this hospital. They charge you so much for doing nothing. Such a joke and waist of time. I would give no stars but cant rate that low

Had the worst time here. So me and my wife just had our first child together and she had a boy 7 years ago here and it was a very traumatizing birth and when we told them about the prior birth they seemed concerned and made sure to tell us that wint happen. Guess what happened, it was equally traumatizing for me and my wife, they had 3 nurses on top of her and 2 more pushing legs far back, all with a bad energy and chaos, it didn't need to be so crazy in there. Also I was asked if I wanted to cut the cord and I replied yes I would love too, then after baby was out the dr just cut the cord without even acknowledging me, also when dr returned and we asked about size, time and weight and the dr replied "I don't know" and we didn't get to do skin to skin with her or was told anything unless we asked. All in all it was a horrible experience and we won't be returning if we have another child.

Closing the Srgt Bluff location....tell us you don't care about your patients without telling us you don't care about patients. Money is always more important.

I thought my experience was decent. Until they sent me to a collection agency due to getting caught up in life (kind of part of being a new mom with a new job) and missing a payment because they send no billing statements. Mind you they also DID NOT send any warning or notices as they are required to do. I found out when I was locked out of the payment portal and suddently recieved a notice from the collection agency trying to now say I owe OVER DOUBLE what I should. This IS about to be fought out because the legally required steps were not taken. Oh, and for the record, I had been paying well over the agreed monthly amount before my slip-up (averaging $500 a month when they asked for $156. And I never even received a courtesey phone call. I woulda been happy to pay. Now I'm just happy I'm not going back.

I just spent 5.5 days in the hospital, checked into the ER thursday morning. Sometime during the night on my second night there, while i was asleep, a tech brought in water/ice. When i awoke, my macbook had a black screen and a folder blinking. When i touched my laptop, water was present on the trackpad/keyboard area. When i went to grab my menu from under the computer it was stuck to the table due to water. A nurse actually witnessed the whole issue. When i asked what can be done i was forwarded time and again to 4 different people. I was released from the hospital on tuesday and i called an Eileen thursday and was told the hospital does NOT stand behind personal stuff being broken while there. Also the tech said they brought “ice” alone in……. Well, ice tends to turn into water but who knows with todays science. What i do know is that a perfectly working laptop is now gonna cost me 400-500 to fix and st. Lukes doesnt do anything about it. Way to lose a regular person who has come to this hospital since before i was born.

Went in for the first time to find out that I had a kidney stone. Had okay service in the ER. But the second time was God awful. Pain meds would wear off, I'd hit the call button and waited about 10 to 15 minutes for a nurse to come by
