đź‘Ťđź‘Ť Caves are awesome! They were not too bad of a hike too. We explored all 3 of them (not sure if there are more). It was very dark but the beams of light midday were surreal. Would love to come back again soon. People often mention cave, caves, parking, cool, find, lava, Shasta, good, bring,

Wow! Was pleasantly surprised by this cave system and surprised one of the park services have not set something up here. It would make for a great campsite. Plus, that would help protect the caves from the ignorant who think nature is a place for their sad graffiti. Bunch of losers. Then again, the park service just ruins it in a different way and would probably charge. Anyhow the caves are great, nice view of Mount Shasta, and the terrain is pleasant as well. If your are driving by Pluto’s cave it’s definitely worth the stop.

Visited on Sept 10,2023 . A nice place! I have been Mt Shasta several times, but this is the first time to know and visit! So I visited this place without any preparation! The last one and half miles road is unpaved and has many natural hump! But anyway the parking place is very close to the target! It is a set of connected tunnels and the last one seems endless. There are few holes you can see the sky which is definitely good place for astrophotography。 make sure you bring full charged lighting and good shoes as well. You need climb among some very sharp stones and walk on volcanic ash as well. For the last cave, I only walked 500 feet before I went back. It was already completely dark and cool! You can hear the sounds from the bats, which make me feel a little bit scary since I was walking alone… The first tunnel is very smelly, sound like many pee around. But after the first one, it will be ok!

Directions to Pluto’Cave will drop you along a “residential” road, and there is a path to the caves, but it’s not the most obvious and I did have to look at my compass direction and Google maps once or twice - however it’s not a long walk to the caves from this spot. There’s “Pluto’s Cave Parking” as a separate location, and this appears to be the regular route to go and it does look like the trail walk from the parking lot to the caves is a bit longer than the route I took. either way you go, the caves are quite fascinating. Hard to believe these are part of collapsed lava tubes from Mt. Shasta’s eruption… what’s NOT hard to believe though? that these caves are haunted. or have paranormal happenings going on.

Pretty much the best cave I've ever been into and explored. It got too dark for our flashlight so we had to turn back because we didn't know how far the cave went down. Definitely a place worth visiting. Watch out for rattle snakes!

Stunning site formed by lava in the foothills of Mt. Shasta. There is a mile of tunnel here leading to some stunning caves. And as many have noted, it's watched over by a gorgeous owl up in the rafters. Bring lights and some good shoes. And some warm clothing.

Great place with great caves/lava tubes! Dead ends after 4 or 5 passes down and under rock seemingly barley holding itself up. Serene. Few bats! More rats.

Really cool spot. Nice hidden gem in the Shasta area. Google maps didn’t take time to the actual trailhead. It was in interesting drive through a rural neighborhood. But I made it all the same. There is a little bit of a steep climb down into the entrance of the caves. And you can hike in either direction to enjoy some cool light. Overall a pretty cool spot to check out in an area full of great views and awesome hikes.

Don't come here! Don't let the fancy camera angels fool you. The place is a complete dump! The cave is covered in graffiti and smells like pee! There are arrows marking the direction TO the cave, but no arrows showing you the way back, and since there are multiple trails you will get lost going back to the parking lot, if you don't have GPS. There maybe be some more caves, but I'm not willing to bushwhack through rattlesnake country to find them. If you angle it right, you can get some cool Indiana Jones shots, but it's pretty clear this is a tweaker hangout and the locals and forest service don't want you coming here.

Great cave to explore. Easy to find the way in and out. Sadly there is a lot of graffiti everywhere. You can enjoy a good extent of the cave without any specific equipment, but you can get the most of it with some flashlights to go deeper into it. The only downside was that the place was extremely empty so it was a little of a nervous experience for first timers to go inside the cave without anyone around.

The forest service seems to have forgotten this place. I think they put up a couple of signs and a picnic table, and never came back. Lave tube was pretty interesting. Some scrambling, some easy walk. Now for the down side. Road in has an abandoned, stripped vehicle dropped next to it. The trail from the parking lot is basically unmarked. We followed the path with the most footprints and missed the cave on the first try. The caves have been graffitied. The best part, the place is surrounded by pot growers. We could smell the stench of growing weed in the cave. The place is so dodgy I expected to find my car broken into upon our return. If you want to see a truly nice Lava tube, go to Subway cave north of Lassen.

I went at night. It was adventurous and spooky. skylights are astonishing, especially with stars and the moon shooting from the above. I went all the way to the end, it was around 1 hour return, better have offline map ready. There are lots of climbs over the big rocks.

What a cool cave to explore. Multiple entrances. Take a flashlight. It can get pitch black in some places. A lot of rock scrambling. It can get dusty, so it might bother you if u are really sensitive. You don’t need an off roading or high clearance vehicle to get there. Had a blast

One of my favorite caves in the country! I love this place and it's perfect for beginners while super interesting and cool for more experienced spelunkers as well!

Bigger than we expected. People visiting can expect zero signs, but worth investigating. Sadly a lot of graffiti and the overpowering stench of urine! There are some who do not respect a sacred site, bring flashlight, and expect rock and boulder scrambling

Little weird to find. You go down a long back dirt road with some scattered houses. No real signage to find it, but we managed to fairly easy. Bring good flashlights and gloves. The first cave you enter is NOT plutos cave. You enter one, and go out then follow the cavern to the next entrance which IS plutos cave. Just follow the footpaths and have the slightest sense of exploration. Really cool and exciting to find and explore

This is a really cool cave. Looks like an old lava tube. Some cave-ins, but when you get to the tunnel with no cave-ins its crazy big. Brings lights.

Good place to visit one time. Parking is bit far so plan accordingly if going with kids. Stroller can’t work. Take water bottles along with.

A little out of the way and kinda smelly. Still fun to explore. If you plan to visit don't use Google maps for directions. It may bring you down a dirt path through a neighborhood. Instead try to find the parking area

This is a collapsed lava tube that still exists because it has avoided usual erosion. It's has a unique history and energy and is worth exploring. The rocks require decent shoes (not flip flops). The rocks are very large and made of lava, so they will scrape you, but they are also grippy. The hike from the parking lot to the caves is quite rocky too. I recommend a headlamp for when you're actually walking through the tubes. I climbed through three areas before I turned back. There is a stunning view of Mount Shasta all along the short hike, too.

From parking you’ll see the footpaths, it’s a short walk over but we talked to others saying it took them awhile to find the way down into them. Only spent about an hour here, definitely need a flashlight!

Amazing. Such a unique landscape and then lava tubes. Bring more then just cell phone flash light.

This cave (with free admission) is a novelty excursion out there in Lassen County. While the cave is short and quite barren inside it is definitely worth a visit to get a sense of volcanic activity in other times. Watch your footing and if you bring children I would make sure they don’t trip and fall - the floor of the cave is rugged and would make for a terrible slash for the legs.

Its a good place to visit, if you are looking for change from falls and lakes. I would give it 5, just for the sun peaks. Note that there are multiple caves here. The sunlight opening is on the left one when you enter. Just be careful when on the trail, there might be rattlesnakes. CAUTION: navigate to the parking point and NOT this point, otherwise you’ll end up in the ranches with scary messages.

The caves were very interesting but not for those who find it difficult to maneuver over dangerously sharp lava rocks. Trails to the caves are not clearly defined and my husband and I got lost for 30 min.to the caves, and even on the way back to the parking area. Our Google map was no help, infact it needs adjusting. Scary to be lost when the sun's going down. My advice "BREAD CRUMS AND THE GLOW STICKS" to guide your way_Good Luck🙏

Very cool place to explore. Use caution! Some spots are quite treacherous. It's not a place to run wild. Great experience though. It's quite cold in the cave. Make sure you have plenty of light. A headlamp is recommended.
