Silver Star Mountain has to be one of the best 360Β° view summits in the area. Getting to the summit, via the Grouse Vista Trail, is 6.6 miles out-and-back with approx. 2,100 feet of elevation gain. It’s a beautiful hike with a good mix of forest trail, open fields, and some rocky sections. The beginning starts out a little on the steep side, but it tapers off at around one mile in. On a clear day, the views at the top will not disappoint. You can see Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson, and possibly Sisters. If you know the area at all, you can pick out plenty of other notable peaks in all directions. Definitely worth the hike and definitely on the list to do again.

I hike this trail last year during the summer. It was hot and I wasn't in the best shape. The trail is in good shape, it's a bit overgrown in a couple of spots when you emerge from the trees after the initial climb up the rocky path (passed Hidden Falls). I might be forgetting but I don't remember any trees across the trail so that's good. The weather was cool and wet. It helped to have hiking poles when passing through the more technical sections. the large rock mound near the top marking the right turn to the summit was welcome sight. I stopped briefly at the campsite to hydrate and adjust wrinkle in my sock. I finished the climb. I was there in the late afternoon and caught it when it was socked in. No views, just white clouds/fog. I captured a mediocre photo of a transient clearing but it closed up quickly. On the way back down, the rain kicked into high gear. My raincoat barely kept me dry. It wasn't cold but I just had to be extra careful when stepping on rocks. The final descent was like slaloming down a course, weaving around the rocks. It was pouring at the trailhead. I tossed my boots in the back and dove into the front seat. Note: Forest Road L-1200 is in good condition. No ruts, no winter debris. Definitely well-maintained.

The view from the top of Silver Star Mountain is simply breathtaking and worth the hike up. The weather cleared up right before we got to the summit, so we could see Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams, but Mt. Hood was not visible. We started our hike from Grouse Vista Trailhead which was a good 3.5+ mile hike. The hike was quite difficult with rocks all along the path and relatively steep terrain. It was worth the hike. Be sure and bring plenty of water and snacks.

Worth the long and at times rough drive. The hike to the summit of Silver Star has quite the elevation change so expect a good workout. If you go on a clear day, the views from the top are just spectacular! The Columbia River is in view from Camas to Kalama! Bring binoculars to spot the twirling wind turbines of the eastern gorge. The lone hump of a mountain on the western horizon is Saddle Mtn. near Seaside and Astoria. Of course, all five Cascade peaks are visible as well. In all, this is a great hike for semi experienced hikers.

My favorite trail in Southern Washington! Camping out here to catch sunset and sunrise is amazing! Only one concrete tent pad at the top, but you can camp in the forest (less wind, short walk to summit) instead. Discover Pass required on Ed’s side and Grouse Vista side.

Pretty hard trail but has an incredible view at the end. You can see Mnt Saint Helen's, Adam's, Rainier, Hood, and even Jefferson. It took us about 3hrs to hike there and back starting at Grouse trailhead going at a fast pace.

Never repeat hikes but this one is amazing! Many different sights to see here. Trail leads to hidden falls, sliver star mountain, sturgeon rock, and sliver star scenic area. If you go during spring time or late spring there are lots of wild flowers everywhere! The view from the mountain is amazing! You can also climb up sturgeon rock, the trail is hard to find but keep an eye out for it as your on the main trail passing by. The views up here are amazing!!

Beautiful hiking area not that far from town. Awesome meadows and forested areas. You can view all four local volcanoes many times at once - Hood, St. Helens, Adams and Ranier.

Exelent easy year hike year around with alpine like views. Decided to make a first Ascent on the north face of the summit and did complete it.

Great day hike. Wild flower fields June July August have inumerable flowers: dandelions, Indian paintbrush, tiger Lily, wild rose, fire weed, Daisy, Queen Anne lace, wild cats ear and so many more. Remember to turn at the Rock pile. Fruit flies are all over the top. Bring a wind breaker. Recommend driving trail ready vehicle.
