This is a beautiful little beach, there’s a really nice walk down from the car park to the sea front. There’s some rocks to lift to see how manly you are, and some debris from an old wreckage. We sat on the black rocks for a while dipping our feet in and listening to the waves. There’s also free public toilets.

Djupalonssandur beach. There were also the Viking stones to measure your strength. At this location is also the rock with a view of the snowy mountain. On the black beach lay the remains of the Epine GY7 fishing boat to rest on the beach. At this location near the stand we sat down to eat at a picnic table. This is also really a must go location to take a look.

A very scenic beach that is easily accessible from the parking lot. One can see the magnificent waves crashing into the shore, remnants of the fishing trawler that crashed here in 1948, and also admire the beautiful black sand and rocks. Usually it is quite empty and a great place to be.

This black lava rock beach is in Snaefellsness and is quite a unique and gorgeous place to visit. You have the beautiful lava rock landscape, ground lava rocks beach by the sea with black polished stones. The beach had a fishing vessel shipwreck pieces strewn on the beach, interesting. Stunning natural rock formations in the sea. A path above the beach are offers an aerial view of beach for great pics.

This was truly one of our favorite places in Iceland. The incredible formations of lava rock, black sand beach, and waves rolling in with the clearest water we’ve ever seen. Just spectacular.

Very nice beach only 5min walking from the car park (free). Black small rocks, very clean water and beautiful pictures of what remains of a 1948 english boat. Nice spot!

Wow! What a great place, the short hike is really beautiful, and it was amazing to walk among the rock formations, along the beach and explore. Wonderful stop along the coastal road!

[September 2021] The way leading to the beach was a relatively narrow but paved gravel road. Do be mindful that there’s typically just enough space for 1 car to pass at a time, but there are multiple pullover spots to let one another by. There’s a WC on site as well near the parking lot before heading down towards the beach. Djúpalónssandur ended up being one of the first larger black sand beaches I would visit during my time in the country, and the atmosphere was perfect, with it being cloudy and the sun slowly setting around the time I had arrived. There was a lagoon on the corner of the beach if one turns immediately sharp right on stepping onto the sand.
