This restaurant is a must visit. The food has no equal in Birmingham (surely no other Peruvian here?) and the service is professional but relaxed and friendly. We were so well looked after. From our cocktail aperitifs to the selection of deserts, our meal was a delight. A riot of bright colours and beautiful presentation which was backed up by interesting and surprising flavours. This is fine dining and exciting modern cuisine. There is almost certainly something on the menu you won't have tried before. Throughout the meal we were always well attended and any requests were more than satisfied. All the food was very well prepared and presented. You would be very happy to celebrate any special occasion here and know that you will be well catered for. The stylish decor adds to the atmosphere although despite plenty of room around the tables, it was a bit noisy when full.

Peruvian passion is sowed into every dish. I usually feel part of the process when I eat at fine dining restaurants. At Chakana I feel part of the experience. A quality experience is most definitely is. I love the contemporary interior. Dotted around is a variety of Peruvian art work. Multicolour woven threads on canvas. Swoosh of black paint on a white wall. Peruvian gold ornating the bathroom taps. I love these nods to Peruvian cultural heritage. In a well lit corner of the restaurant, I sat comfortably. The friendly, humble staff were perceptive and relaxed. I chose the vegetarian tasting menu, given the exciting variety on offer. The staff described all the dishes succinctly. I remember there was a lot of “tigers milk”, a name given to one of their zesty sauces. I remember there was a distinct lack of crunch to dishes. This was more than made up for in colourful and vibrant flavours. Chakana offers a Sunday lunch. I’m sure it’s splendid. I can heartily recommend the tasting menu. A great value for money, fine dining experience.

Great balance of quality, authenticity, and quantity. It had been a long time since I had such good Peruvian food, and the restaurant staff went out of their way to make this a memorable experience. Every single item was worth it, and I would love to come back whenever possible.

This was our first time trying Peruvian food and we weren't disappointed. The flavours were delicious and the portions were more generous than expected. We would be definitely coming back.

The best restaurant I’ve been to in Birmingham!!! I went to celebrate my birthday and was well looked after, with 10/10 service and 10/10 food & drinks. The food and cocktails were immaculate and I loved that they had Peruvian and Japanese influences - what a great fusion! The ceviche is a must try! Would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back :)

This place is SUCH A JOY. They really respect potatoes and that is the sort of ethos that gets my vote. Excellent cocktails too, please drink (at the very least) the Chakana pisco sour.

Gorgeous in one word. First pic is the duck breast which I’ve had cooked just right after ages. Second is the squid starter, very very pretty. Last is their version of pulled pork can’t remember the name. The restaurant is small and simply furnished. Portions are small. Probably as we’re meant to eat and not pig out. Menu is on their website. No it’s not cheap but neither is it remotely near chain restaurant food. Loved the food and drinks. We had somethings Peruvian to drink, forgot now but it was good. We’ll be back.

Best restaurant ever in England!!!! Came from Switzerland with my best friend just to eat all the dishes and the delicious cocktails 🌞 And the wine card…Unique! The bad point was to choose because everything was amazing!… I would have liked to have more than just one belly to eat more! 🤩 So I choose all the desserts to take away 🎉😂 Thank you to the staff for this perfect service! We were like Peruvian Queens ❤️🦙

I recently enjoyed a lovely evening at Chakana with my wife, we both went for the tasting menu. It was a great introduction to Peruvian cuisine, each dish was so balanced and packed with flavour. The presentation of each dish is amazing, colourful and exciting, it’s a real conversation starter. Serving staff explain the dishes which adds to the experience. We also enjoyed the wine suggestions, top notch.

Very up-market Peruvian restaurant in the heart of Moseley. We were very impressed by the etiquette of the staff, the very warm welcoming that we recieved upon arrival was greatly recieved. Ben especially whom built excellent rapport with his customers added that extra attention to detail by offering us detailed descriptions of the menu and offering his best suggestions. The friendliness and heart warming character in Ben wasn't overlooked by us! We wholey appreciated his efforts! Tipped. The restuarant is immaculate; the room is well lit and open spaced with beautiful art work on the walls. We recieved some unique purple corn bread and Peruvian sauce as an offering to begin with which was a nice touch. Each dish has it's own personality, they were light and delicate however very palatable and very fulfilling! We could not fault any of it, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Shout out to the Chef!

Had a ball of a time here! With goodness knows how many vivid if not bordering on garish plates of delicate fish and succulent meats, Chakana really knows how to wow. The vegetarian options are a bit less wonderful, but otherwise the menu is brimming with rich, sumptuous and visually dazzling choices. My friends and I quickly found ourselves ordering more and more food despite clearly having enough, including a whole second round of desserts because they were just that good. The atmosphere was warm and bustling, yet pleasant and not too loud, and the staff were both friendly and knowledgeable. It's not the cheapest restaurant, but totally worth a visit - just try not to get as carried away as we did!

The best Peruvian restaurant in the entire UK for sure! The menu is great and the food is so tasteful, it really brings all the Peruvian flavours to the table. The ceviche is just insane. All the staff are very nice and helpful, we were very well looked after. I can’t recommend this place enough!

Lovely! The sea bream ceviche was sumptuous. And all the Sunday roast options were excellent. And the pisco selection is an eye opener. Try the Italia madre for something a bit different to the usual variety. And the chiclano cocktail was also very nice.

Chakana is a gem. The staff are really friendly and fun to speak to. The menu is varied and as vegans- we felt very accommodated. Lots of delicious options! The food is colourful, interesting and very different. They don't rely on meat substitutes, instead they craft each plant based dish with care and attention to make the veggies shine! My wife really enjoyed the artichoke ceviche whilst I demolished the carrot saltadito and asparagus causa. We also really enjoyed the dragon fruit Tiradito! The drinks are prepared with as much love as the food. Their pisco sours can be made vegan- delicious. I had a nikkei time which was honestly amazing. Can't recommend Chakana enough!

We had a great time here. The service was excellent and so was the food. The ceviche tasted just like in Peru. Also the Ox Heart Anticucho and the Picarones for dessert were delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Before I start this review it is important to note the food was amazing, but here's why it didn't get 5 stars. Two 23 year olds in the area for business and in need of some nice food!! I called up on the day around 5pm and was quickly told the restaurant was fully booked when tables were available on the website. (Already not a great first impression) Having changed his tone very quickly on the phone the gentleman said, "my apologises can I book you in?". After agreeing to a table at 21:15 on a Saturday night we arrived 20 minutes before our table was ready, directed to the bar, they did not offer to take our jackets until I had to ask the waiter during our bread being served. At the bar we both started with a Melon Cocktail which was priced at £8 average pricing for a up-class environment, the lady serving us was polite and pleasant. We were seated to our table around 21:10 offering a range of water and bread to start with. The bread was unique and different, being baked in purple cornflour with a dip of tiger milk which is a liquid mayo with lime juice basically. The menu was explained to us because for any normal restaurant person, I believe they wouldn't understand the layout. Our waiter was called Steve who was very welcoming and explained the menu perfectly to us. As you can see from the photos we started with Crab and Slalom both being £10 each, both slightly spicy and both dishes raw (just so your aware). The main course was excellent nothing much to fault here as you could see the layout and presentation was amazing so congrats to the chef on that part. Everything was hot and so tasty. The lamb was priced at £20 with the the beef being the most expensive dish on the menu at £25. One of the main downsides I found was the slowness in our empty plates being taken away. It was roughly 10-15 minutes each time before our plates were finally cleared. We clearly showed we were done and pushed them to the side of the table. A number of waiters walked past going to the kitchen seeing we were done but not taking our plates. This was around 21:40 so the restaurant was not busy and most customers on their desert course. The payment was fast and easy taking AMEX, being given back our jackets and the doors opened for us upon leaving. Overall, the lamb was excellent being one of the best I have ever had, the beef was well cooked with no pink. The service was strange as we waited up to 15 minutes sometimes before our empty plates were finally taken away. But everything that was served to us felt slightly spicy too. I would return again in the future to hopefully find the serve is up to the standards of that the food is. Food: 9/10 Service: 7/10 Drinks: 8/10 Lighting: 7/10 Environment: 8/10

Tasty, fresh and colourful!!! 🌈🌈🌈Had the Sunday menu, only feedback is make the vegetables more interesting (just boiled?), They were cold and so were the plates. Although there was sauces on the plate, the onion gravy was watery and had no flavour! Meat was delicious however 👌 Starter of fish dishes and puddings and Pisco sours were the best thing as well as the attentive service. Thank you

First time visiting Chakana on Thursday and I will certainly be back! Amazing range of drinks and apparently the largest selection of pisco available in the U.K. Menu categories are in Spanish so unless you've been sprucing up on your conjugation, you're going to need a waiter to help you! Luckily enough, they have those and they happen to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

Fresh, extremely flavourful food and excellent service. My wife and I have visited a few times in the past year and taken friends here. The menu had different mains but each were equally amazing. The staff are also very attentive and friendly. Overall an outstanding experience. One of our favourite restaurant in the area and we can’t wait to return!

Main meals tasty, service good. Very disappointed with the desserts, tree milk cake was not made to the recipe and when we suggested that it was nothing like the ones we had in South America we were told that it is Peruvian recipe. It can't be, I just looked up online and all tree milk cakes are made very similar, it should be nice and moist. The one we got served was a dry sponge with very cheap whipped crem out of the spray can. We were excited when we saw three milk cake on the menue, 3 of us went for it, but £8 per person, per dry piece of sponge it's rediculous!!!

The food was really interesting, the waitress that looked after us was lovely but the drinks were quite slow to arrive. We were an early seating so the atmosphere was non existent when we arrived but it got better. It was also quite drafts next to the window where we were sat and the furniture seemed a little odd. I’ve only heard good things about it here and we had a nice time, but it didn’t quite live up to our expectations.

Went for our 20th anniversary, as we wanted somewhere special. Chakana did not disappoint - the rave reviews are totally justified. We were blown away by dish after dish, from initial nibbles to luxurious desserts. Pictured: beef short rib (generous portion, beautifully cooked) and chocolate mousse (glorious). Can't close this without mentioning the service; the friendly, knowledgeable staff were attentive without being obtrusive, which made for a wonderfully relaxed experience. I cannot recommend Chakana highly enough.

My wife took me out for my Birthday and we had the tasting menu. We were greeted immediately when we walked in. Our booking was for 6pm so it was not busy yet. The food was great and would definitely recommend the tasting menu, it will fill you up. The staff were great and explained what each dish was when it came out. Cocktails were really good and I also tried the Peruvian beer (dark version) which was surprisingly good, think Guinness but not as bitter, would have been nicer if it was colder, so if you order this make sure it is chilled well. We are definitely going back to try the menu, 100% recommend!!!!

Excellent service and good atmosphere. Food is great, Peruvian style so it entrails a lot of "tigers milk", ceviche and bit of chilli. Portion of food is good but desserts could be better. I'm sure everyone could find something in the menu they like

Fantastic food! Full of flavours and colour. A good selection of dishes and the staff is very helpful and friendly! The cocktails are creative and fancy looking. The restaurant is very different from what you’ll find in UK in general and even the food combinations are different from what I’ve seen in other restaurants. Absolutely would recommend!

A Hidden Gem. Took Dad out for fathers day and this restaurant didn't disappoint. Started with cocktails and I recommend the Alpaca Punch. Complimentary beer given to my dad for fathers day. My mom had the braised octopus and she finished first which is unusual. Hand dived Scallop for me which was devine and the mixed seafood ceviche for my dad which had a nice kick. Then for the mains, 1 lamb and 2 beef short rib with a bottle of red wine between the 3 of us. Cooked to perfection and full of flavour. My mom normally has some form of criticism but not on this occasion. All going to plan so far. My Dad and I had dessert which were sublime. Banana creme brulee for me. Fantastic. Mon had an expresso martini which completed her day. One more cocktail and we were done. Our waitress was fantastic and so friendly. Then came a complimentary dessert for fathers day which mom gave dad a helping hand. What a lovely day at Chakana. Would recommend this restaurant to anybody.

I would safely say this is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The taster menu was a great experience - each dish seemed so unique with ingredients and combinations I’ve never heard of before (tigers milk was delicious). The staff really put effort into talking through each dish and the intention of the different flavours. I think the pricing is very reasonable, and with that taken into account it further justifies my claim that this one of the best restaurants I’ve been to

The NYE take away box was a Christmas gift and we were not disappointed. The pick up was well arranged and smooth. Very tasty food, but relatively tiny portions. Hungry afterwards. Not really exceptional enough to 'pull it off', with respect to the nuvel cuisine lark. Worth a try, but make sure you order enough.

Chakana is our absolute favourite restaurant, in normal times we’ve enjoyed heading over for a pisco sour, negroni and delicious food. Lockdown 1, 2 and now 3 ended that (although we managed a visit when things were lifted for a short time). Instead we are having the beauty and joy that is Chakana at home, for NYE this included cocktails. Just wonderful, tastes as good. How we miss the restaurant, but for now this will more than ‘do’ The food is beautiful and tastes so good. The instructions are easy to recreate your very own restaurant feel at home. Thank you Chakana, see you properly real soon. We’ve had Chakana @ home twice and many restaurant visits, couldn’t recommend it enough.

Went here with my wife for her birthday today. We had an awesome food experience and the quality of the food, ingredients were very good, well presented with fresh flavors. It is always an exciting time for us to try out new cuisine, especially when it turns out great. This was our first experience of Peruvian cuisine and it did not disappoint. I know some reviews said the portions were small but both my wife and I were full after a starter, main and dessert each. We shared all dishes and worked out well. The 25% voucher discount made it well worth the visit and we will definitely go again to try the other items on the changing menu. Our waitress, Daniela was awesome, had good knowledge of the menu and recommended us well. Thanks for an awesome dinner.

Exceptionally friendly service, extremely flavourful food at an incredible price - you must come. On entry my fiancé and I were greeted by friendly front of house and escorted to our table. From here, we were guided through the menus by a knowledgeable and friendly waiter who obviously had a passion for Peru and the food being served. We plumped for the early bird set menu (£20 each on IB card) and we are so glad we did. We were given pre-starter corn bread and a tiger milk sauce, which was sublime. We ordered beef tartare for snacks - thick beef on a crispy wafer, followed by starters: tuna and chicken (see pics) both excellent. We had duck and cod for mains. The fish was out of this world - my fiancé always orders fish and I'm always jealous. Accompanying sauces were excellent, each ring of sauce had its own unique flavour. Dessert was just as good. This place is gem with a refreshing menu that offers something different. Definitely going back again.

Great menu and the food is delicious. The service is slick and the staff are friendly, they really understand the menu and can advise on what to expect and how it's prepared. It's set in a lovely old bank and the whole experience was first class. My second visit and not my last!

We absolutely enjoyed our experience both food and service. The server was extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. I would definitely recommend the Tuna Ceviche,Tuna tartar, pork belly and beef sirloin and the lovely passion fruit pisco sour! One star down for the scallop dish as we found it lacking in taste and as the scallops were sliced so thin, it just didn't stand out as the star of the dish.

Ordered the Chakana@home for my Birthday, what a treat! Incredible flavours, so different and difficult to replicate at home, (adding value to the experience). Easy to heat up and produce at home, great portions, original sides, astonishing amount of ingredients, complimented by lovely wine. Can't wait to eat in house until then we will order at home again.

Wonderful food and a lovely staff! Last Saturday I went here with my friends for lunch and we had an amazing experience. For starters we ordered chicken causa and Ceviche which were really good and for the main course we had the traditional Lomo Saltado and the Andean Potato Stew, both meals were exquisite! For dessert I’d recommend the Peruvian doughnuts! The food was amazing and the waiters and staff were really nice. I should like to express my particular thanks to the chef Robert Ortiz who made us felt really welcome to the restaurant. I would highly recommend it and definitely come back!

Can't rate this place highly enough. All three courses were fresh, delicate, colourful and most importantly, really tasty. Each dish had an element of fun attached and that's what I liked about the restaurant - it's pretty close to fine dining but with a clear personality and not at all stuffy. Knowledgeable and attentive staff too, which really helped. Definitely recommend.

I ordered Chakana at home yesterday. The food was tasty, looked great and tasted amazing. The only negative I could find was that the assembly instructions weren't 100% clear and it wasn't 100% clear what some of the food containers were. Other than that it was a great experience and I will definitely eat in the actual restaurant in the near future.
