Historicial fort, extremely well maintained. No enterance fee, ample parking. Picnic table if you want to bring a lunch and enjoy. It's worth the stop.

What a nice park. The view is breathtaking. The fact that it is elevated compared to the rest of the island gives an unique opportunity to see most of the island. There is a lot of history, with secret underground room and tunnel. And explanation of how the fort was used for the past 200-300 years. Nice place to picnic and let the kids play around. There is restroom. It is probably the best place in Bermuda to enjoy sunset. Not very crowded and lot of space.

The best is to take a walk on the railroad trail and clim here from the trail. The view of the bay and Ely’s Harbour is spectacular.

    Great views

Really cool. We started on the rail trail and walked up the ditch, you get to the outside of the fort where you would get shot of you were invading. Then walk up the path, enjoy the top of the fort, the replica pop up cannon. Go into the magazine. And go into the base of the fort and look out the gun holes that we were looking into earlier. SUPERB

Wasn't open when we arrived so didn't get the chance to go inside. So we walked around the trails there.

A serene locale with excellent views

It is very beautiful here! The view is amazing! If you can, go inside, down the stairs and have a look around. There are boards on the wall with information about the fort. They also have a check in book to sign, if you want. It is very interesting looking at the other names and seeing where people have come from to enjoy the same view as you.

We hiked here along the Railway Trail. Terrific 360 degree views perfect for this old fort. A must see if you are in Somerset.

The best use of Bermuda from the Fort. Great historical significance of Bermuda's past. The natural rock clock is quite whimsical and funny. Make sure to search for it.

Scaur Hill Fort is worth a detour off the Railway Trail. It offers great views of the sound, and had interesting exhibits and underground chambers and tunnels to explore.

We made a short detour from the rail trail up to the fort. We did not have a lot of time to look around, but it was worth it just for the excellent view of the Great Sound. There are various pieces of the fortifications that you can explore.

Very cool history but rather a short attraction. You can see everything in 20-30 minutes. It's a nice scenic spot to take in the stunning views.

If you want the most fabulous views then it's well worth the effort of making the trip here. You can walk along the railway trail from Somerset village or take a bus to a stop either before or after the sign for Fort scaur. It's timeless with its cannons and strong walls Toilets and a large car park make it a good place to stop on a tour of the island. Perfect place for picnics under shady trees . Expect to see cardinals bluebirds and kiskadees. Monarch butterflies and in spring loquat trees. We walked on the trail to the smallest drawbridge and then took a bus back to Dockyard.

What a cool spot with a ton of interesting history. Great view of the ocean to boot. You need 45 minutes to really check everything out although the fort is pretty small

Great small fort with amazing views towards Hamilton! Well maintained, with bathrooms. There is a water collector nearby, check it out!

It was a great adventure with lots of info in tunnels to learn.

We loved visiting this fort. The admission is free and there are several interpretive signs to explain its history. If the kids need to run around this is the place to go, the dry moats are like a maze and go on for quite a distance. The reproduction canon is cool to view. The restrooms are clean and I challenge you to find the hidden herb garden there!

The fort is an historic spot with a few plaques detailing its history. There is a bench at the apex where you can sit and contemplate the beauty of Bermuda.

  • 4/5 Karen W. 4 years ago on Google
Absolutely beautiful. We took the bus there and then took our lives into our hands hiking up to the entrance. Not for the faint of heart! After that, you're hiking steep trails and rolling hillsides with absolutely gorgeous panoramic views. Wear as little clothes as possible, it was HOT and HUMID when I was there in July. Comfortable shoes are a must. Cushy socks a good idea. Go all the way to the top for the view that makes it all worth it. We spent about 2 hours and found out the hard way that the only way back to a stop was the way we came. Again, scarey as hell for this American but it seemed common place for the drivers.

Scenic, historical fort that affords you the opportunity to see the whole island from different perspectives. Definitely a must see in Bermuda!

  • 5/5 Sara S. 4 years ago on Google
This fort is really neat and can be accessed from the old Bermuda train line trail. It was extra hot the afternoon I visited and there’s not much nearby in terms of water.

  • 5/5 Tina B. 4 years ago on Google
Very interesting facts about this fort as well as the 1 of 2 cannonballs shot 😁 Also, if your a player it is a Poke stop!

Beautiful views of the Great Sound on one side, looking towards Dockyard to the west and towards Southampton along to Hamilton . And Elys Harbour on the other side. Nice place for a photo op, to walk along the trails. Or take some food and sit off at one of the park tables and have a picnic. That's how we spent our mother's day today.
