Wonderful butterfly house and it was worth paying for when it's stepping through a different world. We really enjoyed ourselves as it has a wide range of stunning butterflies that don't disappoint at all. I saw so many flying around I wish I brought a video camera to try and capture them. Gosh I really was impressed by them. I got quite a few good photos and they had some beautiful butterflies that were begging to be taken photos of. Which I did of course. Good for all ages. I highly recommend here.

Beautiful selection of a variety of butterflies and tropical plant life in a small orangery/greenhouse type building. It is very humid and hot in the enclosure, incase people didn't know, and they have a no pushchair policy. Had a lovely time getting my little girl to point out how many different butterflies she could find.

I enjoyed myself greatly in the Butterfly House! Definitely worth the ticket price. The scenery was lovely, I also liked feeding stations for the butterflies. If you are attentive enough you might even spot the pupae. If not, there is a separate puparium (looks like a small house) which holds a number of cocoons displayed to see.

Pros: Helpful staff, limited numbers of people admitted due to covid restrictions, great abundance of butterflies (more than London Zoos butterfly house in our opinion) Cons: our only 'con' is that its very warm inside the house, which is understandable as its not for us human folks, but hey be prepared😊 Make sure you book your tickets for the museum, main exhibition, aquarium and butterfly house for an even better day out.

Such a wonderful oasis to be surrounded by so many butterflies. My toddler reads 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' every night before bed so it was such a treat for him to see all the butterflies. It is quite warm so be prepared to wear layers. There's also a buggy parking space just right outside the house. You must pre-book tickets and times are allocated for 15 minutes which is enough time. We actually went over but it wasn't particularly busy so it was fine.

Small but with plenty to see. There were several lovely butterflies that you could look at really closely. One of them even landed on my wife's shoulder and stayed there for a while. It was a bit pricey given the experience lasts only 10 to 15 minutes, tickets costing £20 for 2 adults and 1 child.

The butterflies here are beautiful, it's very warm inside so remove your jacket before you go in. There was a volunteer here too with lots of information about the butterflies

What a fantastic little place. Beautiful butterflies living among some beautiful tropical plants. Absolute joy to see them and watch them flying around and eating. Book your ticket at the main museum desk or if not too busy they sell tickets directly at the butterfly house.

Pretty little butterflies abound in this small but fascinating space where all manner of beautifully coloured butterflies call their home. The most fascinating part was apparently, there was a drunk butterfly! I didn't even know they could get drunk! Poor thing was laid out after a morning of drinking endless juice. Book tickets as part of your museum experience and there's an excellent guide on hand should you have any questions about our winged friends.

Fabulous place! I feel this is quite an unique little area in London. There are lots of beautiful butterflies to see! The kids loved it and adults alike. Some of the creatures are tame and I had a few land on me, and for reason some were fascinated with my trainers! The member of staff there was a star and very helpful. She was happy to provide a 'removal' service should you need to evict a butterfly from your arm or head! It did feel like a sauna in there, fir obvious reasons. I felt the entry fee was reasonable and there's a small shop on site selling various souvenirs. Well recommended as part of your Horniman Museum visit!

Great little butterfly enclosure! Fantastic for younger children as it's not too big and will keep them entertained for long enough. You are allocated a 15 minute slot, however if it isn't too busy they won't mind if you staying longer. Would definitely visit again!

The Horniman is a wonderful place. Great for school trips, friends, families etc. Friendly and helpful staff. Cafe a bit expensive. They only sell canned water, however, they do have a water fountain to refill water bottles. Great place to picnic. They are pet friendly (own area).

Great for the kids if you go on a Saturday morning there is a farmers market with lots of stalls, some great cakes, teas and coffees and I had a huge bacon and sausage sandwich which was delicious. Nice for a stroll around

It's so small for the cost of 1 adult and child. We were in there for less than 10 mins. It's ridiculously hot and way too humid. Where in the world do these butterflies come from that it needs such humidity? I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and we have loads of butterflies, some of which I saw in there and it's no where near as humid. There was also hardly any butterflies and not a wide variety either. Very disappointed.

I will not add more photos, because i’d ruin everyone’s unique experience. It was great UNIQUE and BEAUTIFUL experience. Never had it before, but I’d go there every time. Lovers tip: if you want to impress her at first date, take her there, it’s lovely!

Lovely little butterfly house, the price seems slightly high given how tiny the butterfly house is, but it's still worth a visit.

Small. But if you have the patience to take your time, you can see quite a lot of lovely things. Volunteers are great

Small and sweltering in today's heat but, hey, it's a butterfly house. Never seen so many beautiful butterflies in one place. Some with a wingspan almost as big as my hand. Great to see them feeding on slices of pineapple and melon placed strategically amongst the flora. A proboscis party!

Was a little disappointed by the quantity and variety of butterflies on display. Although I had purchased tickets in advance expecting it to be busy, it wasn't and the staff were rather officious and unfriendly. The cafe arrangements were equally disappointing. We were unable to sit in the very beautiful conservatory as they said it would be closing, quite in advance of the museum and we were restricted with food choices too even though stated would be open for a few more hours.

Really nice little place, as soon as we enter we felt in butterfly land and there is not just a few but lots of butterflies, dont expect to find the rarest of the specie but very pretty ones and all sizes, my 2yo was pretty impressed (and of course myself) the kind staff showed us some that are not very obvious to the untrained eye and some caterpillars hiding , small place but enough for curious little minds... plus it's very very affordable price. Word of advise, get ready to step inside the jungle as it's very humid and hot inside.

Didn’t realize the butterfly house is always there, but my little one didn’t really like it as I have expected. We only saw a owl butterfly and blue morpho and then left already.... well, at least she enjoyed rest of the place

The gardens are lovely, well maintained and free to visit. The museum and butterfly exhibition are great and can be visited for a fee. Wonderful butterfly collection and super helpful staff. A great day out with a toddler!

Loved visiting the butterfly house for Mother’s Day, there were lots of exotic butterflies flying around. It’s very hot in there so I should have left my jacket in the buggy.

At first there was nothing to be seen, then one after another the butterflies came out! A lovely experience and very interesting information dotted around to help you learn more about all things fluttery. Great for young and old alike. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Not very big but decent add on if your visiting the horniman along with the aquarium. Keeps the kids entertained for about 15 min. Wasn't open when I visited recently Jan 22. But have been several times in the past.

Lovely environment to show kids around, worth noting it really doesn't take long and is up the hill from the main museum area.

Absolutely stunning selection of lovely butterflies. Very nicely kept and incredibly knowledgeable, polite and friendly staff. It's only a small place but very adequately priced for it's size. I would recommend and i certainly will return. The butterflies genuinely look like they are thriving and the living their best life.

The butterfly garden here is definitely worth a visit once. I haven't uploaded pictures simply because it's a small garden and it's best to experience it yourself rather than see it all in one picture. A slight warning for people It is pretty hot inside the garden, humid rather, so perhaps take a bottle of water with you to stay hydrated. Enjoy!

🫤 Just want to give some realistic update to the animal park. We went there on 26/8/2022 Friday afternoon around 2:30pm, all the animal gates are shut, so you won’t be able to see the animal closely. Some chickens and birds are close to the fence on our visit but nothing else. You can only look at the...
