My husband and I ate here tonight. The outdoor seating is super nice. We have the stuffed jalapeños for an appetizer, they were okay. We both ordered the tri tip sandwiches and we were both disappointed. The meat wasn’t tender and was a little gristly. Sweet potato fries were really good and so was the coleslaw. Our server was nice enough, but service was slow. Probably wouldn’t go back.

I stopped by Sonney's for lunch a couple days ago and I was really impressed! The prices were very reasonable, and the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the grilled platter and it came with a big portion of perfectly cooked meats and sides. I will definitely be back soon and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great BBQ meal by Lake Tahoe.

Pretty good food, but The wait was ridiculous. They are more concerned about taking phone orders and delivery than serving the people that actually go there. There was no line and it took us 15 minutes to be seated as we sat and watched the girl in the front take around 10 phone orders then took another 45 minutes for us to get the food. Food and drinks were good once we got it. I’ll likely not come back.

Best in town home style BBQ ribs and chicken. Also great salads and side and cornbread and grits. Full bar and beer on tap. Our server Jenny, our server, was so attentive, upbeat and also good on the eye. That comes from a happily married 60 something year old. Come here to eat and relax outside or inside dining.

Went there once before and it was amazing. The follow up trip was just as good. Pulled pork was so tender and just fell apart. Same for the brisket. Service was good and our waitress was so friendly. Clean and an overall cool atmosphere. Prices are fair for what you're getting, and you're getting quite a bit. Give it a try!

First experience of Lake Tahoe was dinner at Sonny's. The place was fairly full on this Tuesday early evening in the middle of June. Our wait staff was doing her best to keep up with little training and just days into the job. The atmosphere was nice, but too noisy for me. There are several seating locations, including outside, but it was chilly so we dined inside. My beef brisket could have been cooked a few hours longer so it would have fallen apart; same with my husband's ribs. But they both tasted delicious. We shared the Key Lime Pie for dessert. Will try again someday.

Mediocre BBQ at best for the highest price I ever have paid per pound. I'll be as constructive and specific as possible to give the proprietor info instead of just bile... Brisket- No real flavor (no smoke, seasoning or otherwise), dried out, and all the fat still sitting firm. Fat should have melted away and taken looser consistency if it was properly slow-cooked to 196'F+ internal. It was either rushed, cut short or day(s) old requiring it be chilled at some point, not sure. My amateur self has made better brisket on accident. Brisket is a pain OK, and they did seem marketed around pork more than beef, yet... - Ribs disappointing. They looked beautiful, but again dry, with no real flavor. - The combo portion of each is laughable for the price. Go with the single meat entre to get closer to sane levels. - Fries were excellent and strangely the saving grace of a BBQ joint. - Burger doesn't quite matter, because for $20 after tax it better blow my mind or forget it (see Burgers & Brew for prime example and under $15). Instead I got a basic black on the outside-red on the inside cliche. - Beans were forced with some weird over sweetened seasoning that made them inedible... And also dry despite the sauce(?) - Homemade cornbread was unnecessarily ruined with peppers to the point it was also not edible. I'd argue the majority of folks want it classic style, please make it an option. The goods: -Sauces were diverse and interesting flavors - Beer was cool and crisp, and the one thing that was reasonably priced - Ambiance was very well done with inside/outside transition charming enough, despite being in a mountain town with 57'F average temp in summertime (bring a sweater). I appreciate all that was done with the space, considering all the different establishments that I have seen come through it over the years. - Service was exceptional. Hard-working staff with a great attitude and very hospitable vibe. They definitely saved a lot of the experience for me based on above.

Sonneys!! Hollah!! Everything I sit down to eat here, I get smiles and delicious St. Louis ribs. Was there on opening, and years later, same incredible consistency. The collard greens are exquisite, corn bread yum! Love this place and the friendly atmosphere. I always love to eat outside, highly recommend!!!

Food was good. The combo platter is enough for 2 people. There is a nice outdoor seating. Enough space for little ones to run around before or after meals

Staff was friendly, BBQ was really good. Hard to find good BBQ west of Texas and this satisfied the craving for now. It's not as good as Texas BBQ but it's very good if you're missing that taste. It won't disappoint. Brisket was moist, smokey and full of flavor. Coleslaw and baked beans were good too. Didn't see corn on the cob which was weird but forgot to ask for it. Very dog friendly. We would come back.

This is a solid place for BBQ! First of all, I was amazed by the chile verde soup, it is almost as thick as a dip with pulled pork. It is definitely comforting. Next, I was amazed by the sauce. It has unique flavor and aroma, some are fruity and some are spicy but not too crazy spicy. You can try them all. Lastly, the BBQ meat, it is grilled to the point what the fat is dripped away. So the meat is very enjoyable, not too greasy. It is almost on the drier side but still somewhat juicy. We also tried the bread pudding. The smokey flavor of salted caramel is definitely there. I wish they can add more experience to the pudding by some nuts or fruit to balance its heaviness. In any event, it is a good place to enjoy dinner here.

We were searching for a restaurant that served collard greens and Sonney's popped up. Well, Sonney's did not disappoint. Everything was on point and absolutely delicious! The service and staff (Jessica) was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the 1/2 chicken & St. Louis ribs, with collard greens, loaded garlic mash potatoes, jalapeño corn bread with honey butter. For dessert we had their famous award winning bread pudding which is a must have. This is definitely going to be one of my go to spots now. I need to try their other items on the menu.

Fab BBQ, super-welcoming & personable bartender (we love you Greg ♥️) and open for food until 10PM. We were stuck in South Lake Tahoe during a snowstorm and this was the place we landed in — THANK GOODNESS — and found th ribs, the sliders, the sides, all to be quite delicious. YAY.

The smokemaster at this place should be arrested. What this guy did to the meat here might be a crime in some states. Or at least should. I tried the brisket, the beef ribs and the saint Louis ribs. All three of them, I kid you not, are the worst I had in my life. Tough to eat. The beef ribs were impossible to take from the bone (a good beef rib is usually falling from the bones). The pig ribs, you can get way better stuff in a chain restaurant. My girlfriend and I came starving from a whole day skiing with no lunch, so we were very tolerant to say the least. Only reason I'm giving two stars was because of the great service and manager.

First time visit last week was a great one. The interior is much like the other welcoming places in the area which is great. Keep with what works. This place has a few dining areas with good seating. The bar has a pool table among the tables and a lot of televisions to watch while you enjoy the great food. My family got nachos, ribs (HUGE!) and half chicken. The meat was done perfectly. Juicy, right about of seasoning, and the portions were generous. The staff is helpful and keep up with a packed place. They kept up with everything. I hear the bar roll up walls open in the good weather the a lot more seating outside. People bring their dogs and enjoy the good weather. I’ll be checking that out.

Read online that this was a great place so came to check it out myself. We were just visiting Tahoe so tried it out. We got what we expected, great service and great food. It really has a nice vibe and the staff were very accommodating. While at the restaurant we actually saw a little black bear outside. He was just running across their yard. I guess he smelled the Ribs and came running! I don’t blame him. Food was so tasty. Recommend!

We enjoyed an afternoon at Sonneys while visiting for the week! There’s plenty of room on the patio area and a big grass area, our dog loved it and they welcomed dogs with a bowl of water! Our server was Greg, he was fun, informative and had great energy! The food was amazing, and the variety of BBQ sauces provided were all delicious! And most importantly…Beer was cold! Would recommend!

This place is a local favorite and a favorite of ours when we visit Tahoe. Great food, great service and ice cold beers! Cooked low and slow and melt in mouth delicious.

Truly the best BBQ in Tahoe. Their meat is smoked to perfection, sauces are delicious and made in-house and sides are generous portions. I will definitely be returning here. No wonder they’ve won so many awards!

Just driving back from the basin of Lake Tahoe and passed this place. Looked like a nice spot to grab some lunch and they had great reviews and online presence. It was Wednesday around 130 and no crowd at all, but this was after snow had been dumped in the area recently killing the tourism this week since the slopes are closed and it was really cold over the weekend. After talking to Kyle behind the bar about some of those best dishes, I decided on the brisket sandwich and baked beans. The meat was very moist and not dried out the way brisket can be at some places when not prepared correctly. It had a touch of Texas and Carolina to it with their sauce. Also tried the Carolina sauce and the sweet sauce added to it. Instead of a hamburger bun like most places serve a sandwich in, the bun was more of a hoagie style roll. It was flatly and very good. The baked beans had more of a Carolina taste to them which I like and were also very good…not mushy beans, firm. Looks like they had a nice outdoor space that would do well when the weather gets better. Kyle told me that they were slammed last week and had the patio open, but the snow this weekend killed them. Great service overall from Kyle and the food came out very fast. Really good BBQ and this is coming from someone who lives in the South and knows good BBQ.
