A clean, well organized and well stocked Safeway. There is nothing you might need that they don't have, from organic chocolates to ethnic foods. The staff is particularly helpful. The lady that made us sandwiches insisted on cutting fresh cucumbers, though some were already pre cut. The gas station here is usually the cheapest we have seen in Tahoe.

The store is faced well, the associates we encountered were helpful and pleasant. I love the carved wood figures they have on the entrance support beams. A lot of carts were out-of-order and lined up along the front of the store. I'm assuming the snow is the culprit as far as the carts are concerned, because there's a lot of weather damage in the entire area (Lake Tahoe) - so I don't blame the store for the weather. We had to go out and get a cart from the parking lot, because the functional ones were in-use already. I also would have loved to see a few more asiago bagels - the last two times we came in, they didn't have any, and one of the times was a Saturday morning. There can be a big difference from one Safeway to another as far as the quality of the store - and this is one of the nicer-looking ones.

I love Safeway and how convenient it is, our South Lake Tahoe Safeway employees go above and beyond to help the community. I especially love and appreciate drive up and go, I order from there weekly and everyone in there is always friendly and super helpful. Peter, is so polite and knowledgeable, Steven always makes sure things are right and handled correctly, bow is such a sweetheart and loves to help, Kaleb ensures you are happy with you’re items, and Niko always picks the best produce, I couldn’t rave enough about this group!

This is a great place to shop for quick and convenient items. It's close to the main lodging area and has everything you need for the trip. The staff at Starbucks are also very kind and helpful.

This is a really nice safe way. It's especially nice because the selection is good and there aren't a lot of big stores in the South lake Tahoe area.

Always love to come and do all the grocery shopping from here. But the bakery here is getting worst day by day because of bakery manager don’t do her work properly and her friend strore manager is helping her all the time whenever she do anything wrong. Bakery employees are quitting their jobs day by day because of bakery manager’s behaviour with employees. So sad Our Safeway is not like that. Safeway needs to change their bakery and store manager’s so employees can work in a good environment.

Second time in a row now that they have customer service closed, it's 12:10pm now. They really need to fix their staffing issues. Now this same person, as in my previous review, name Kimberly is rude; she was rude to the guy in front of me, with an attitude. She came out of safe room, sounding upset and say you can't u see the damn sign, we're closed. She obviously doesn't care. Store itself I guess is okay, but they need to fix their staffing problem and other issues they may have. I don't think Management seems to care.

Very disappointing experiences. Was on vacation, went there twice, but both times, they made mistakes when checked out, they double charged the Smirnoff wine cooler, made mistakes on cheese, milk prices and vegetables. We had to go to customer service to get it corrected. Lucky that we checked the receipts, otherwise, they would have stolen around $25 from us. To everyone, check the receipts on your way out, they seemed to make mistakes very often. Don't know it's human mistakes or purposely. No confidence for Safeway anymore. Sigh!

Local grocery store with a Starbucks inside. It's a convenient location when you're staying in South Lake Tahoe. Groceries were a little pricey.

I was at this Safeway store on Johnson on Friday, 6/16/23 at 9:30am and was very disappointed with the Bakery Dept. They were out of bagels, donuts and French bread. This is unacceptable especially at the start of a weekend that generally brings hordes of people to the sierras. Sorry but this is poor planning and a bad reflection on the bakery’s management team and store manager. I quickly left and drove to Raley’s at the Y. They had an abundance of delicious baked goods and breads that were amazing! Bottom line …Safeway’s Bakery Dept this is a wake up call…if u don’t get it together ur competition is and will steal ur customer base!

Average grocery store with all of the basics and some cool specialty items, but it was busy on a snowy Friday night and there were only two regular checkout lanes open in addition to the self-checkout area, so there were some long lines to checkout. The employee running the self checkout area was overwhelmed and got into a shouting match with a customer over who he directed to what station (it was a nonsense kind of argument that both adults in this situation shouldn’t have engaged in), but this made a bit of a hostile environment as everyone attempted to just continue with their checkout process. I’m from out of town, but this interaction would cause me to choose a different store in the future, if possible.

I doordash, so I shop here 5 to 10 times a day. They have a Starbucks in the store, a flower department, a meat department, the deli makes great sandwiches. Produce is great, they carry exotic fruits. Self checkout is always fast. The only downfall is there is only one cashier late night and the line gets pretty long

Great building with helpful employees. The food was all kept up to date, fresh and nice. A variety of traditional foods as well as a big organic section. Definately become a Safeway member to get the deals on most of the things in stock!

This store is usually very great, however there is quite a long wait if you need to get baby formula.

Ordered the holiday dinner. Everything you need all in a box. Makes life Soooo much easier and the food was great! Friendly fast service too! 5 stars! ☺👍

Much less of a shitshow these days. Issues are resolved immediately or smartly avoided. Only major negative is their graveyard restocking staff is serverely understaffed, overworked, and maybe even underpaid. The shelves have taken some ransacking to the past few months. The bakery bagels were coming out too dense to eat or they'd have the consistency of a dinner roll. 2 days later the donuts & bagels were better then ever and the bakery staff was new! The bakery has only been like this for about two weeks, but for now it's a positive sign.

Staff was rude and unhelpful.. They left us stranded - twice - in selfcheckout, and then said the price shown at checkout was correct, and then that it was the only kind of item they had. I retrieved the shelf label to show them and the employee left and a manager came in who did not care and refused to fix the problem and refused to apologize for finding their error and then just walked off and left us with no ability to check out. Thus, their shelf item price was NOT the item at checkout and they did not care in the least. I wonder how many other people they have cheated?

I’ve been shopping at this store for nearly ten years. This year by far has been a noticeable difference, and not for the better. The lines are atrocious. The new staff that came in for the summer are not friendly or helpful. This store has become a nightmare to deal with. I’d give the amazing people who work the wine department and produce department 5 stars.

Your standard Safeway, but yeah their prices were better than other Safeways we've typically shopped at. The place was clean and we were able to check out quickly with no issues. They also have a small section where you can get magnets and other touristy items.

The store is nice. I just wish I could buy a cold drink. I don't need a beer in the middle of the workday and I don't drink carbonated sodas. How about a regular or sweet iced tea or lemonade? Seems to me those would be a standard item for the cooler.

Great selection and the store was clean. While on vacation I don't want to spend a lot of time cooking, but I don't mind oven ready. Safeway had all sorts of pre-prepped food in oven safe dishes (healthy veggie sides, seasoned pork chops/chicken) in addition to prepped salads, pastas and desserts.
