I have to give Hilltop International Cuisine 5 stars. They are new to SSP as they opened on January of 22. In all honesty, had I known it was an Ethiopian restaurant I would not have stopped in due to unfamiliarity. However, the server was very patient with me and made two great choices. I has the curry chicken which was very good. The rice it came with was amazing. The Samosas were the bomb! I ordered beef. Easy on tue spice tho, they're worse than the Mexicans. Haha! Which I am. :)

This place had a calm, relaxed atmosphere. They gave us delicious, complimentary vegetable soup right as we sat down, which was such a nice surprise after coming in from the cold. The marinated lamb shank was flavorful, tender, and delicious. Please eat here if you're ever in or anywhere near South St. Paul.

Excellent food with robust and appetizing flavor profiles. The best value item is the "Hilltop Ethiopian Specials", which is a set of their various Ethiopian dishes served with salad and injera. The veggie and beef sambusas are great and filled until almost bursting. The lamb/goat shank is also a must-try. The slab of shank has a nice chunk of meat, marrow in the bone, and comes a large portion of long-grain rice and salad. The portions in general are large and can feed 2 people if eaten with the injera they provide with most dishes. The décor is tasteful and reminiscent of the regional flair of the cuisine. The service is polite and quick. If you want to try something a little bit different, definitely visit Hilltop. And please go order the Ethiopian dishes, which are all bursting with flavor from the various spice combinations they use.

We kind of stumbled across this place & thoroughly enjoyed everything here! The atmosphere is casual & welcoming and the decor has an appropriate mishmash of cultures, which gives it a unique feel with a little kitsch. We had Ethiopian type fare & loved it!

What a gem of a restaurant. We were told this was a great place by some people who visited us recently. We decided to go see for ourselves and we will definitely return. We orders the Sambuusas (tender beef inside a pastry, served with a mildly spicy sauce. You can also order them in chicken or vegetarian) and the Hilltop Ethiopian Meat special half order, which comes with three meats and a sides of salad, rice and Injera (a spongy, pancake type bread that we'd had with our friends from Eritrea before...soaks up sauces wonderfully). If you do the full order it has added items. This was more than enough for my wife and me. Everything was bursting with flavor. They also had a free vegetable and noodle soup, which also very good. This place has something for everyone. Asian, African, Mediterranean, European, vegetarian. There is something on the menu and a kids menu. The prices were very reasonable and the portions ample. With a single drink our bill came to $38 before tip. The staff was very helpful, had great suggestions and the place is very nicely decorated. If there were 6 stars, I give them in a heartbeat. not only will we be back, we'll be recommending this to all our friends.

Other reviews have said it but Hilltop is indeed a hidden gem. I was greeted with such warmth and kindness by the owner as soon as I walked in. The menu has something for everyone. My favorites were the lamb Tibs and the salmon and rice platter. The salmon was juicy and the sauce with it was tangy and delicious! The Tibs were tender and good spice as well. I ordered the Hilltop burrito for the rest of the family and they thoroughly enjoyed that as well. We must comeback to try more from the menu (the hilltop burger sounds delicious).

We were sorry to have waited a whole year before making it to this destination. Hilltop brings some much needed variety and uniqueness to our neighborhood. We were greeted by a kind server with a nourishing vegetable soup upon arrival (outside air temperature was -26). We ordered sambussas, the hilltop burrito, tibs yebeg (see picture), and cheesecake. If you haven't tried Ethiopian food, this is a great place to start your adventure. There are some North American comfort options, too!

Amazing food. Had Ethopian food for the first time here. Bread was soft and had an subtle fermented flavor. Lamb was spicy and flavorful. Will be coming back and would highly recommend.

The food at Hilltop is amazing! His food is so delicious and after our event, friends and family started to ask about Hilltop and using him for their birthday parties, graduation, baptism, weddings...etc. His food and service is beyond amazing and way over my expectations. Thank you very much for making such a delicious food.

I love everything about Hilltop. The food is amazing. I'm Ethiopian and don't usually go to Ethiopian Restaurants because I don't get the genuine taste of our food. Hilltop changed my perspective. The taste, variety & presentation is very nice. Price is also fair. Go and see for yourself when you want to try Ethiopian Cousine.
