An amazing set of unconventional locks..a truly architectural and illogical engineering bit of canal lock design history. The old octagonal "toll" office is still there which is used by the lock keeper/Canal and River Trust volunteer...you can buy post cards and canal memorabilia here as well. The canal here rises by 30ft or more going up where once at the top, you can look down the valley, see Wombourne and maybe the church's spire. It also has hidden side ponds behind the towpath where culverts then connect these to intermediate pounds. A great place to watch canal boats go up and down and fun to bring the kids to see this bit of canal history...a picnic would be perfect too. Thanks to Mark for the help getting through the Bratch locks and for keeping the whole of the surrounding areas and space so beautifully maintained! One of our favourite set of locks most definitely....πŸ‘πŸ‘

Beautiful place. Tranquil and interesting. I spent a good couple of hours here, just unwinding... and watching a canal boat go through the Lock. What a calm & peaceful, way of life. Simple & appealing. There was a little, quaint building at the top. Which was closed when I went there. It would be a nice idea to maybe open that up as a little shop - selling small, touristy mementos, for all visitors to the Lock, on land and on water πŸ€”

Its such a lovely place to walk or cycle, benches to sit long the way, and so clean, do the loop, and come back along the disused railway line.

Amazing to see the engineering that went into designing and building these locks. So incredibly deep and they function really well. A great spot to walk around and then 10mins down the tow path and there is a great pub for lunch. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

This is a great place to start a walk from. There is a car park next door to the Victorian water pumping house, no charges. In the winter, the towpath gets a bit muddy, so good boots are a must. If you're a dog walker, don't forget the poop bags.

This is a great place to visit- good fir walking along the tow path and watching the boats. It is very quiet and peaceful. Interesting to see the boats negotiating the lock as it has to be used carefully. Good to have a lock keeper on hand. When we visited there were 2 on duty. The toll House is interesting too! And you can buy small souvenirs of your visit. There is also the victoriana pumping station nearby which shows typical victorian terracotta architecture. Lovely place!

Nice little walk this afternoon. Ample parking, we went around 1400. Slightly narrow pathways, especially if you’re walking a dog and they want to be inbetween you. We walked down to the Round Oak Inn, which is a dog friendly pub, with plenty of outdoor seating and small playground for children. Ideal for any playing Pokemon go.

Had a fab time at this beautiful place today. Had a great chat with the volunteers who staff the locks and learned about the work they do to maintain and improve the area so that it can be enjoyed by all

Well maintained flight of three locks, plus a lock-keeper's shelter and cottage. Best visited in the summer on a beautiful day when all the flowers are out and you can 'help' with the lock mechanism. Beautiful Victorian waterworks building nearby that would be great if you could go inside.

Always a pleasure to visit, great place to sit and watch the boats go by. The trust do a great job of maintaining the area and the lock keepers are always pleasant to talk to

Came through here on our narrowboat β€˜Cassie’ and it’s an absolute feat of engineering genius. They are MASSIVE and beautifully made with old stone. For boaters it’s a fun different set of locks…(with an opportunity for the bins and recycling!!) But we were lucky with super nice weather, which always helps!

Fantastic place to watch the world go by. Lock house with volunteer lock keeps, helping the canal barge owns navigate the three locks. You can follow the canal towards Wolverhampton to another lock, Awbridge no49 . There you can join a small country land and walk down the hill for a short distance. Where you can join an old railway walk back to Wombourne, making a stop at the old railway cafe.

Very nice and calm place where you can watch an impressive old technique that gets your boat up or down the canal

Amazing piece of engineering. Looks more daunting than it is in reality.

Great little stop. Worthy of a short trip. There was a boat going through while we were there. Unusual three lock system. And a great view of the Pumping Station nearby with its magic castle turrets.
