The food was lovely but unfortunately the table was not. We were seated away from the main restaurant in a small fire exit lobby, the lobby included two tables very close to each other. The space was cold, quiet and lacking any atmosphere. We were able to hear every word discussed by the family next to us, and likewise for them. I believe if the restaurant is full they should not take further bookings, it isn't reasonable to seat guests in a fire exit lobby and charge full price for the experience.

I was so looking forward to dinner tonight. Came into the restaurant and joined my friends. We got our food and sat down to catch up and eat. All was going well until the waitress asked if we wanted any more food before the kitchen closed, it was just after 8 o'clock, she then took an empty plate before we had all finished. We were then asked by the waitress about a discount card, some of my friends were still eating, whilst being told she was rushing to clear the area as they had staff training on the new menu that night. It would've been nice to have been advised on this when we came in. We paid our bill and moved to the bar area. We tried to enjoy our night, whilst all the staff were engaged in food tasting, we then had the cleaners coming through to start cleaning. It was about 10 o'clock in the evening, really! We all left the pub hating the fact that we all felt as if we'd been rushed. Will my friends and I be returning? NO.

Waiter was lovely. But never in my life have I seen meat cut so thin. No exaggeration you could see through it. When we said to the chef about it. He got very rude and had a Hugh nasty attitude. We spent over 150 that eve but what a waste off money. Dirty tables dirty glasses. And to top it all we had a 10 month baby with us and was told you have to pay for a bowl off food for him. Now really ok so it was only a pound but not the point. The child had just a tea spoon off mash and 3 carrots. This is a 1st never been anywhere that makes you pay for a tiny amount off food. We had to wait ages for gravy to come out. This we don’t mind but when thee was no one waiting to be served then come on where was all the kitchen staff. Then desserts,. We waiting over 25 minutes again restaurant was not that busy. Our bill was not right over paid. But being as we waited so long to get the bill and then even longer to get to pay I just paid. Was so feed up. We booked for my husband’s birthday he lost both his parents sadly and this was his 1st ever birthday without them. So the meal was meant to celebrate but also remember. We picked this restaurant as the last time we was there a few months ago we was there with his parents. But due to everything it was a case off just a disaster. From the time we got there to the time we went. And to top it off we did asks for a quiet corner but was put in the middle with tables off others right next to us which again we had no room for wheelchair we had to keep disturbing other people’s tables trying to get in and out. When I made the booking I made this clear we needed a little extra room. We asked if we could move but told that was all they had. But for the full time we was there restaurant was not even half full.

I had dinner at this place, and despite it being busy, we were promptly seated and served, which was pleasant. The food met my expectations for a Toby carvery. I enjoyed my experience here, especially the outdoor seating area with a lovely sea view, perfect for enjoying drinks.

Just delicious. The staff are an asset to this place. Especially the singing master carver. Had us in hysterics. Such a pleasure to eat fantastic food whilst listening to the kitchen team having a giggle. The waiting staff and bar staff were just as welcoming. Great vibes all round. Well done that team! 🌟

Disgusting place - really needs a makeover. Booked online and requested a booth seat next to the window. Arrived and was sat in the middle of a dark and dated room with views of the toilet, only a frosted window in sight. (Not because it was busy, I suppose it’s dead for a reason). Moving to the bar area was an issue apparently too but we managed it. Again really dated. Staff quite abrupt. Bar staff used his fingers to rub off the dirty marks on what was going to be our cutlery! Looked online previously as some of our family don’t like carvery. However on arrival we asked for the menu but was told, what’s the point, we only do carvery. Wasn’t able to even look at the menu for other options. We would have walked out but had two hungry children with us, no car as we walked there to be able to have a few drinks and actually nowhere else locally to go to at that time. Food was awful. Cold or stale. Meat was fatty (Turkey). Looked like food was there all day. 3 pots of gravy and all with dregs at the bottom. Only nice thing was having a drink in one of the open sheds outside, overlooking the sea. Although that meant having to use the most disgusting of toilets! We wouldn’t return or recommend!

Love the choice of meat for the carvery and potatoes / veg etc. Our waitress was really good and very helpful. I think the pub needs to be decorated as it’s deteriorating quite badly and it puts you off eating there. The toilets need to be done, was shocked by the state they were in. And also some of the meat was very dry as was the Yorkshire puddings, so maybe you could pre-carve the meat or find a way to keep the meat moist and keep the Yorkshire puddings off the heated plate so they don’t dry up and go all hard. But overall a nice experience, if the place was decorated and improvements made, I would rate higher.

What a pleasant surprise it was to see the "Toby" sign whilst walking along the beach with our dog from Southend on a cold day. As it was too windy and cold to eat outside the manager allowed us to sit in the bar area. My wife and I enjoyed a delightful carvery meal and our well behaved dog had a bowl of water and lots of attention. Everone was so friendly and welcoming.

It was the first time we had eaten a carvery there since it has been done up inside. The food was incredible, the best carvery I had ever had. The food was fresh, not all dried out as has been the case in the past when the heat lamps just dry the food to a crisp. Our waitress was amazing, could not do enough to help, even though it was an extremely busy service. We are booking again for December as we enjoyed it so much.

Waitress was superb, friendly and positive even after a long day's shift as we were there in the evening up until closing. Really commendable. She enquired with the kitchen about meal options that were seemingly out of stock or unavailable and got us the meals we wanted. No qualms. Food was good, but great service makes food taste even better!

Came late Friday afternoon...nice & quiet...relaxed atmosphere. Nice outside area..could see the sea from our window where we sat. The Yorkshire's are big & you can have them as part of your seconds....Meat was tasty, plenty of veg to choose from...good choice of deserts, which were tasty. Our Waitress Juliet was excellent...

Best Toby experience ever, the two most attentive waiters made it a complete pleasure. Billy and sadly I didn't get the other gentleman's name but both made the experience lovely. So nice to our son, so nice with us, nothing too much trouble. And super busy which made it even more special to be looked after so well, and also meant that all the food was fresh as they were constantly bringing out new dishes.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Food cooked beautifully. Only downside was they had no ales on tap, and there was limited choice on the meat and vegetables.

We are always so looked after. We have an autistic daughter, we have a special area where there are only three tables. This makes the whole experience so much easier & more comfortable for all. We all love the food here, our children know what they are going get, which is so important with ND children. Vicky was smashing as always. Danny remembers our family every time & really makes our visits special.

This was our first dinner visit since the refit. It looks so much better, much lighter and airier than before. Today the food was very good, great selection of both meat and vegetables, all hot and tasty. The highlight of our visit as always was our host Carol, she is always warm, friendly and looks after us as a family. She seems to know when we need top ups on drinks and she has always attended to our every need. Thanks for always making our dining experience so much better. We are glad to see the place back open and our favourite hosts still there. 😀

Lovely staff. Everyone worked really well to make sure we had what we wanted. Perhaps for our liking the food had been under the lights a little too long. Could do with being busier. Great value though.

Great food and service from start to finish. It was super busy and heaving because of the newly released 50% of main meals voucher I guess? The whole team of staff were superb. We were 'walk ins' for a table of two at 7.15pm on Monday 15 May. We were quickly seated and our drinks were ready and waiting on our table by the time we returned with our carvery. Looking forward to coming back on Thursday with my parents.

We had a lovely meal here with our family. The food was good carved by Danny and our server Carol was very good. One of the best wait staff we've had in any restaurant. She was busy but made sure we was seen to in quick time. Would definitely go back.

Amazing place, with wonderful atmosphere, worthy every penny! I have amazing server Janet, that was super carrying and nice, very friendly carver Lou, and host that I forgot the name (young hendsome.guy in 20'is. They all work together helping each other due to busy time. So I'm more that happy and I get out with lovely memories and full belly!

Our family ate here on Boxing Day and we can only praise the staff for their service. A busy day anyway for them, only made busier by the 18(!) of us! They served us efficiently and with a smile. Food, as expected for a Toby Carvery. Choose your meats (or veg alternative) and then help yourself to the veg and sides. Very tasty and very filling!

I visited for a friends birthday so we had a table for 6 and a table for 2 as it was during the special promotion. Negatives first as always. Computers had gone down and they had no manager on the evening we attended and the location we were put in just to the left of the restaurant in the bar area was extremely dark due to poor lighting., that area would benefit from having new lighting installed as I could hardly see anything on the table. Positives Free car parking for patrons of the bar/restaurant by using the touch screen by carpark entrance to restaurant, even though computers were down and no manager the staff coped fantastically. The food was amazing as always, and the staff overworked but still managed to get around all the customers, due to 8 of us being at dinner and the special being for a maximum of 6 people they still managed to sit us next to each other. Big well done to all the staff.

Service was lovely. We had a polish lady that served us and she was very friendly. The staff that worked on the carvery deck was very helpful and friendly. Only thing that could have been better was the Christmas pudding dessert, was a little bland. But apart from that… excellent!!!

We'd booked a table for 6.00pm. We arrived at 5.55 and the restaurant was ridiculously busy. We were told our table wasn't ready and that we should get drinks at the bar. We did this but then there was nowhere to stand. We were in staff and customers way, It seemed wherever we stood we were pushed and kept getting asked by staff to move to another space. This went on for over 20 minutes, We were just about to leave as it was crazy and not the atmosphere you normally get in a Toby. The queue to book in was always about 10 people deep. Why they didn't turn people away is beyond me as when we finally got to the queue for our food there were at least 30 people ahead of us. I've queued less at security at the airport! Also the poor chefs that were working were so hot and under a lot of stress because of all the customers. They were far more polite than any of the staff we encountered last night.

The staff are amazing, sooo busy and they are all still super polite and happy. The food is great too, all was lovely but the roast potatoes you can just tell they have been cooked a long time ago and same with the Yorkshires, but other than that it was delicious. The queue was so huge tho and took so long and the place was boiling.

Definitely not up to the usual standard of this Toby. When we visited at 6.50pm there was no turkey, gammon or pork and the beef was seriously below par, we were told that the other meat would come out at 7pm. To be honest we should have returned to the carvery bar after 7pm but hindsight is a wonderful thing. On the plus side all the staff were fine and the restaurant was clean and tidy. Unfortunately this visit was not worth the money.

The Manager is phenomenal. The food was delicious, beef was a bit tough so the .manager brought me a HUGE plate of Turkey and took my beef away for me. The place was very busy but we still felt looked after. I wish I had that energy and enthusiasm. We will be back.

Breakfast is wonderful! Nice staff, really helpful. My partner is veggie and the chef went out of his way to make a portion of the bacon hash thing without the bacon - she didn't ask for it, she'd asked what was in it so was a lovely surprise
