I was extremely disappointed by their service today. I was excited to go for a massage here, as we had been for several massages in their Ella branch and they were the best massages we have ever experienced. I went for a 60 minute deep tissue massage and after half of the massage I asked him to stop. Firstly, the man whom I thought was doing my massage, as I spoke to him about the issues I’d like to be worked on and he also set the bed up for me, did not end up being my masseuse. This is not professional and bad practice as the first time I saw my masseuse (as I was face down on the bed) was when I turned around to make sure that he knew it was supposed to be a deep tissue massage. When I asked if it was a deep tissue massage, he just nodded. When he then moved onto the next leg, I asked for a firmer massage and again asked if he was doing a deep tissue massage. Again he just nodded. He then moved into my back, he massaged up my spine which was painful (bone should not be massaged!). It became more and more clear that he had no idea what he was doing and I therefore asked him to stop. The man who I originally believed was massaging me then came into the room to ask why I didn’t want the massage to continue. I explained that it was a really bad massage, that it was not deep tissue massage and that I am a qualified sports massage therapist so I know what to expect. He then had a slight panicked look on his face and he said he’d redo the massage. As my husband and child had already been waiting around for me and also because my skin was quite sore from the masseuses nails, I did not take him up on the offer. He then went on to tell me that the therapist was not experienced, almost as if he wanted me to feel sorry for them. This made me feel very angry as they treated me like an idiot, thinking that I would not know what a deep tissue massage was (perhaps because I am female) and that they could just give me an inexperienced masseuse, I’m guessing unqualified in the deep tissue massage too, and still charge the higher fee for deep tissue massage. This is not only unethical but also dangerous. I did actually feel sorry for the masseuse, as he also shouldn’t have been put in that situation if he did not have the experience. They then phoned their boss who kindly offered me any massage on their list for free. Sadly, I now have no trust in their staff and will not take them up on this offer. Disgraceful service which is really sad, as like I say, their Ella branch was incredible!

You will need to adjust your expectations to what massage in unawatuna is. It is not in a luxurious environment that you would typically imagine of a tropical country like Thailand or Indonesia (Bali). This is a local hut, mud walls, a little bit dark, no air conditioning but this gives it a very natural and organic feel to it. The price is higher than what you would get at other ‘spa’ places in Unawatuna, however, I would say the quality is quite good and a lot less expensive than having an in room spa. The English of the therapists is a bit limited so you’ll have to explain your ailments to the manager and trust that he’s communicating to the therapist. The therapists however, are quite skilled due to the Ayurvedic tradition in the area. I would recommend this place for a foot / head / neck and shoulder massage but I would not recommend any facial type treatments especially if you have sensitive skin.

We have tried full body massages in different locations in India, Thailand, Indonesia etc. But nothing can match the massage we got here. It was really amazing. Nilu was the massage therapist. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a massage.

The best massage in town (actually in my life - and I've got many). I have been to other places in Unawatuna but Deergay is the best. Chinthaka was super professional, he knew exactly where the tension was and how to release it (deep tissue). The service was more than perfect, Mr. Shakoor knows exactly how to rule a business and make clients happy. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

Really very good massage. I am very demanding when it comes to massage and this massage was one of the best in a long time. I had a full body deep lymphatic massage. The masseuse massaged every centimeter of my body, including my breasts and ears, face, and head. Strong intensive massage. I recommend! Thank you!

We had the ayurvedic full body and the motherhood bliss massages. The masseuses (Nilu and Ruwani) were lovely and the massage was super relaxing, I particularly enjoyed the head massage which seems to be a signature focus. Very reasonably priced (7000 LKR per person). Fully recommend.

I had a superb back, neck and shoulder massage. My shoulders and back were tight and knotty. I like a firm, firm pressure massage and I was not disappointed. It was fantastic. My shoulders and back are now relaxed and singing. I will be back for more….

I went to different SPA in Unawatuna. Krishanthi has the best, in my opinion. She is the only massage therapist here who worked on the points on my feet and head. I also did shirodhara with her. I am delighted. I recommend to everyone.

I got the 1h deep tissue massage by Deneth and it was amazing. He got ever muscle in my body and the head massage at the end was perfectly relaxing! Would recommend it any day :)

I had my full body massage with Nilu. I felt very comfortable with her and nearly fell asleep because I was so relaxed throughout the massage. Her smile makes you smile aswell. I can only recommend coming to this place. Will come over and over again. Local people are welcome here, too. Anyone is welcome. One of the best massages I ever had (and I had it a lot). Miss Wassana has magic hands. Liked her so much. The price is higher than other places nearby, but it is worth it. The place is clean, the interior is modest - don't expect luxurious spa experience - just a best massage.

My partner's foot massage was very bad. It was literally a slathering of oils and creams and had nothing to do with a foot massage. In addition, so much aloe vera cream was used that his new shorts (yes, it was a FOOT massage) got a lot of green spots. When we went back to clarify this the staff was unhelpful. We paid for the bad massage and now we have additional expenses because we have to take the pants to the dry cleaner. I give 2 stars because my masseur performed my foot massage very well.
