Please do not order the large size of their authentic pizza if you get there with a few friends because the size of pizza is huge!! I am sure it would be enough for even 4-5 people! So cheesy and soft taste pizza for great price! So friendly staff! And, anyone can enjoy a great atmosphere even at night time with pizza and music. Anyway, strongly recommend 👍

The overall experience was terrible. When you walk in the door it smells like bleach mop water, but the floor was nasty. The first table that the hostess took us to was dirty. We moved ourselves to another table. The waitress was really slow and we continuously had to look for her. She never offered us water. We ordered two drinks, pizza, and antipasto salad. Before the food arrived, we ordered some wings as well. The food to arrive first was the wings and the salad. The wings were drenched in garlic Parmesan sauce or some type of sauce. Thé salad was just okay. After about 25 minutes, we finally received our pizza. It was sloppily put together. It was suppose to be like meat lovers. It wasn’t. I’m not sure but I think it had sliced cheese on it. The over all experience was horrible. The food and service has declined at this location. The only only bright spot was the karaoke that was happening. I probably won’t be back. The wait staff needs to be probably trained.

I don’t know how Shields went down hill. Years ago I had the Gold Medal pizza with my husband and we were both obsessed. We’ve ordered it maybe four more times since then and it’s never been good at all. Last night I got a margherita pizza instead. It was inedible. It came absolutely smothered in dried oregano. Think: a toddler dumped a whole spice jar onto a homemade pizza. I didn’t detect even a hint of basil, certainty not any fresh basil. This was nothing like any other margherita pizza I’ve had anywhere else in my life. The cheese bread was covered in shiny cheddar, not mozzarella. It might as well haven been slices of American cheese smothered on there. I could have gotten something to taste better at a gas station. I’m done trying to chase the high of my first Gold Medal. Everything I’ve had since has been just plain terrible. And it’s not cheap either! I will not be returning.

I have never been to a restaurant that was so disrespectful to their customers. They have no respect for their own restaurant. I simply called to explain their food was so salty that it was inedible. I explained that it always seems to be an issue with my food. However, it was the first time as a loyal customer that I had ever complained. The owner practically started yelling at me saying, “It is what it is.” The owner further went in to say, “Don’t come back.” I said, “What an original catch phrase. Don’t worry, I won’t return.”

Food was good. Waitress was ok at best. We finished eating to then wait over 15 minutes for our bill during a slow lunch afternoon. Not many people in the restaurant at all. Waitress only brought one of us a refill and just played on her phone across the dining from us at some points. When it came time for the bill we discovered they had put an auto tip in without informing us. The first bill was for $39 but after she took our card the bill we were charged for was $49 and at said an auto tip was added but still prompted us to leave a tip. On our way out we're heard another set of guests have the same thing happening to them. Food is great but due to this I will likely not be returning anytime soon due to the service.

First off the Waitress was Really Bad, unprofessional, never checked up on us, got order wrong and just did not care. The pizza? Is not what it use to be, the crust was raw and doughy, sauce was good, but overall, this is not premium puzza anymore, truly a let down, Shields does not deserve to be ranked up with the best anymore, sad, I use to love their pizza

Great pizza. Nice airy and light. Cheese has a nice taste. Personally found it better than Buddy's. Lighter and more nuanced flavors without adding heavy richness. I coincidentally came on an event day with a Jazz night and it was great. The seniors around were all happy.

Moved to Michigan recently and I was on a quest to find the best Detroit style pizza. We found it. My god what a great pizza. It’s one of those meals you wake up at 3 am thinking about. Can’t recommend more and we look forward to returning.

TLDR: Great food and nice hostess, but the waiter was EXTREMELY lazy and inattentive. Longer Review about the service: Although the food was great, the waiting service was EXTREMELY poor. My bf and I came here about in early July and after the very nice hostess (not sure what her name was but she looked like she was in her early twenties or so, black, and had a bun in her hair at the time) acknowledged us shortly after walking in and seated us, not only did we wait over 10 minutes to just get our drinks ordered, but this other woman, who wasn’t even supposed to be our server, ended up taking them. She had just noticed us and asked if we had been helped yet so that was the only reason why we ordered through her (and we decided to order everything right then and there to avoid waiting to get our orders taken again). We asked for our appetizers to come out at the same time; however, after waiting a long time again, another waiter (never found out his name because he never introduced himself or even actually paid attention to us) came with my appetizer, gave me it, and then asked if we needed anything else. My boyfriend had to tell him that we asked for both of them to come at the same time, to which the waiter took forever to come back with. We then had to wait a long amount of time AGAIN to get our pizzas. After getting them, we realized that we didn’t have small plates to put our pizzas onto so my boyfriend was going to ask the waiter to give us some when he came back. Despite this, the server didn’t come back around. My boyfriend ended up having to find the plates on his own to get them. The server never gave us refills or checked on us while we were at the restaurant; however, once he gave us the bill, he acted all nice and stood by our table a bit more. I’m sure you can guess why. Once he ended up walking away, my boyfriend and I agreed not to tip him since we had never had someone so lazy “serve” us. We wanted to give a tip to the hostess since she was the only one that did her job well, but once we went over to her, we saw our waiter by her just on his phone.

We have always loved Shields! There have been several other locations that opened & closed. They were never the same as the 15mi Troy location. So I was really hesitant to try thus location. But I was blown away! The service was absolutely incredible! The food was as good as the Troy location used to be! While the Troy location has slipped a little last time we were there. Not here, they still have all the original recipes perfected. NOTE: Buddys pizza used to be a close second, but those have gotten so bad lately, they have completely slipped right off the Detroit Pizza scene & think they fell all the way into Ohio & into pizza insignificance! So if ur a buddy's fan and have been dissappointed lately with their quality & service like we were, you have to try Shields! I recommend the Fresh Garlic & Spinach pizza!

SHIELD'S PIZZA is a staple in the community and was always a special treat. I had to share this experience with my son.

The quality of the food was very good, although they tend to undercook the pizza crust. The waitress was very dour, not very friendly, kind of had the attitude that I'd rather be somewhere else but since I'm here I'll take your order. She really didn't deserve the 15% auto-tip but gave it to her anyway. She picked up the check and looked disappointed we didn't give her more- no thank you, no see you later just walked away. The guy that seated us wasn't very friendly either.

Awesome Pizza! The music was a great addition to the food. It was my first time there but it won't be my last

Given we had a party of 16 and we were automatically charged the gratuity the service was very poor. The server was either new or really poorly trained at her job. She was pleasant but pleasantry only goes so far. Family Salad served no plates or silverware…. Pizza served no clean plates. If I have to go get my own plates and silverware, you should not be charging an auto gratuity. Who trains servers these days. Management should be ashamed. It’s been 30 years since I’ve been in that establishment but I’ll never go back .

Wanted to try a local favorite while traveling in Detroit for the weekend. The food was good, ambiance was great (jazz band playing), but the service was horrible. We ordered a Detroit style pizza which was good. An order of chicken pesto fettucine that arrived without the chicken (the chicken was on the bill) and a Cobb salad which my wife said was excellent. The sauce on the pasta was overwhelming, sooooo much sauce, and nothing special about the pizza, light ingredients and expensive. As far as the service, we waited quite a while for the server to show up after being seated...we estimated 10 minutes. We gave our drink order, got our drinks and then waited another 10 minutes to order food. We got our food and didn't see the waitress/server again, any server, until we were done. We had to go find utensils as we were missing a set and never got the chicken for my son's salad. To add insult to injury, an 18% tip was included with the bill (only 6 people at our table) which totally explained the level of service. Many friends have called this place a local favorite but just not our cup-o-tea considering the service and cost.

I didn't go here but had the delicious leftover flat bread pizza from my parents 😋 It was so good! They said it was a very nice restaurant! Been around for years & a lot of locations.

Stopped in to grab a pizza and was pleasantly surprised when it was karaoke night! Good pizza, good atmosphere, friendly staff, great prices. I'll be heading back for sure.
