👍👍 Lovely private tour with Pule where we got to see main parts of Soweto. Be prepared with small change though, as many parts of the tour include voluntary guides who depend on tips and donations. People often mention tour, Soweto, guide, experience, history, bikes, time,

We had the 2 hour bike tour. We didn't get much from our guide, at Multiple spots he'd just tell us to read the existing signage to learn about the place. The bikes were very bad and could be better maintained. At times they left us behind while cycling. The whole thing had a bit of an unpleasant vibe. Would have been better to just do a walk ourselves.

If you want a fancy, comfy tourist experience, do the bus tour instead. This is for people who want a real sense of Soweto in a short time. Yes, the gear shifting was iffy, the seat had adjustment problems, and the bike got a flat one third of the way into the ride. That's Soweto, too. Everything sort of works here, some of the time. Or they make it work. Oliver, my tour guide, was friendly and knowledgeable, with a good sense of humor. He was able to answer any questions I had, and tell me about the local culture, history, and establishments. Good conversations with the locals at the food stops. Relax and have a laugh, and you'll enjoy yourself. Do bring a little extra cash for the shops and vendors. But don't feel you have to do things or buy things that you don't want to. We did stop at the Hector Pieterson Museum, right next to the tour's home base. But what Cycle in Soweto shows you that the regular tours don't is the rest of Soweto, where regular Sowetans go about their daily lives. Sure, you're still a tourist. But this is as close to experiencing the real Soweto as you're going to get in a few hours.

We had a really nice guide, mister “king” (Oliver) did a nice job guiding us through Soweto. Don’t expect something fancy, it’s the real Soweto you are going to see. The bikes however were a disaster. 600 rand (4h) per person is also too much regarding the terrible state of the bikes. An additional 50 rand was needed for “Soweto breakfast and lunch” which is part of the tour. The way of communicating (e-mail) was also a bit unprofessional, which made us a bit worrying if the tour was going to be safe (which it was). The parking in Soweto is next to a museum and a touristic hotspot, it’s pretty safe (with a guy “guarding” your car).

I have done this tour twice, first in 2010 and again in Dec 2023. Very knowledgeable, friendly tour guides who were patient and answered a lot of questions we had. The tour and guides give the rider an insight into South Africa and its history of struggle, particularly the township of Soweto, how it came to be and its importance in the Country's history. The lunch was yummy aswell. A must do if spending time in Johannesburg.

Great way to experience Soweto. Pule is a brilliant guide. He took us some of Soweto's historical places, explaining thoroughly the history behind each historical site. His assistant made sure we all confortable on our bikes. Great experience indeed.

Very interesting tour through Soweto with some interesting highlights and information. Cycling through various parts of the township and seeing the differences in places where people live. Also getting information about the Soweto towers, cycling through the Vilakazi street and meeting some locals. Felt very safe throughout the entire tour and would recommend this to others.

We did the biking tour on Sunday 17 september. The communication before the tour was easy and quick via email and the driver pickued us up at the designated time from our hotel. We drove to Soweto and met with our guide Pule. Pule made our trip a truly memorable experience. He told us so much about the culture, history and stories along the way with so much passion! We visited very different places along the route which made the trip very varied and Pule kept us interested throughout the whole tour. At the end of the tour he took us to a great lunch with Bunny-chow, what was the highlight for my husband! The driver took us back to the city to drop us off at the Apartheidmuseum after the tour, but before that he made a detour to make some photo's of the Soccercity stadium, another interest point for us. We had a fantastic dat with Cycle in Soweto, thanks so much!

Very interesting tour. Our guides: Enormous knowledge, humourus, caring, helpful. All our questions were answered. Best information. Perfect organisation: Friendly welcome, meal with a very competent and friendly cookee, also vegetarian, good bikes, interesting ways with very important stop-over @ Sharpeville-Memorial and Mandela-house. We can recommend this tour.

Highly recomend Cycle in Soweto. Small, intimate group and a real insight into life in Johannesburg during and after the struggles of apartheid. Our wonderful local guide Lerato was so accommodating and even took us for a beer at a local shabeen to finish our tour on our request.

Great day, our guide Tumi was excellent, he is a lifelong Soweto resident and something of a local celebrity. Highly knowledgeable of the history of the area and a lot of fun too. We saw the landmarks of Soweto, interacted with residents and enjoyed a tasting of locally brewed beer at the Soweto brewery. As he says (in numerous languages) the love, happiness and friendship goes 'from me to you and back Tumi' Thanks Tumi!

It was awesome! You really didn't get to know South Africa without passing through here! Super safer then in other areas! Ask for Lita, really nice tour guide!

We booked the tour spontaneously, on the same day in the morning. The guides were super nice and took us through the different neighbourhoods of Soweto for almost 4 hours, including the famous Vilakazi Street, where the Mandela House is located. We learnt a lot about the history of Soweto, especially about the Soweto student uprising in 1976. We enjoyed the tour very much and would recommend it to others. We felt safe the whole time. The bikes are quite old, but that didn't detract from the tour.

👍👍 I did the Mozambique trip in May of 2022 (first trip with them) and what a delightful experience. Initially I was a bit nervous because I was going on the trip without anyone I knew, but I got along so well with the other travellers (zero drama!!!). Afrika is a great host and has a really great pers...
