The Museum Bank Indonesia, located in Jakarta, Indonesia, is a captivating institution that provides visitors with a unique blend of history, culture, and finance. The museum is housed in a beautifully preserved colonial-era bank building, which in itself is a testament to Indonesia's rich history. The museum's location in an old Dutch colonial bank building is striking, with its neoclassical architecture and charming courtyard. The building alone is a visual treat and offers a glimpse into Indonesia's colonial past. Museum Bank Indonesia is not just about finance; it's a gateway to Indonesia's history. The exhibits walk you through the evolution of currency, banking, and the economic history of the country. This provides a deep understanding of Indonesia's journey from pre-independence to the modern era. One of the museum's highlights is its extensive collection of currency from various periods. It's fascinating to see how money has evolved over time in Indonesia, from ancient coins to modern banknotes. The displays are informative and well-organized. Museum Bank Indonesia is a great place for students and anyone interested in economics, history, and culture. It offers knowledge into the financial world and Indonesia's past and present. The museum is well-maintained, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. It's relatively vast and can be explored in a couple of hours. Museum Bank Indonesia is a hidden gem in Jakarta, offering a well-rounded experience that combines history, culture, and finance. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a student, or a traveler interested in understanding the local culture, this museum is worth a visit.

It is a place so perfect to learn about the history of Indonesia's Central Bank from time to time. There's lots of collections to dig better of monetary policy base made by bankers from the early century of this nation's years. You can see even the real gold bricks worth more than 8 trillions [my estimation], even holding a real one in your hand to 'taste' it's 13.5 kg's weight, while imagining just how much wedding rings could possibly created from one single brick..

Another Dutch building well preserved. A good insight on what shape Indonesian history from economics perspective. Great place to learn. A must visit for any numismatist. Good flow of displays. Should spend anywhere from at least 2 hrs for quick visit to half a day for relaxed stroll.

After long time closed due to the pandemic, the museum is opened. Before entering the building, the officer asked me to check the temperature and check in PeduliLindungi. They really strict in terms of health protocol which is good. I paid the entry ticket for IDR 5,000 per person. It was a nice visit there to learn about the history of Indonesia’s finance and banking system. The building is well-maintained, it looks historical and grande. I was so impressed with their collection of the bank notes from around the world.

Something just stood out about this museum when I was trying to find something to do on a wet Jakarta Sunday afternoon. I was not disappointed. Great selection of exhibits about the Indonesian economy. Sounds boring? Well, with a history encompassing the 17th century Spice wars up to the more recent riots during the Asian Financial Crisis make much of the exhibits quite compelling. Throw in some of the Indonesian Gold reserves (in a very secure vault) and a detailed section on coin manufacturing and you have a must visit museum if you are in central Jakarta. Very cheap at 5,000 Rupiah and with an interesting shop at the end for that rather unusual Indonesian souvenir.

One of the best places to learn the history of Indonesia, it teaches you how the VOC initially came to Batavia and created the very first bank system in Nusantara. The building is massive, and there's so much to see inside. You can tell that they maintain this museum very well, it looks very clean and tidy, even the dummy looks so real. I would recommend you to visit this museum.

Amazing!! I think this is the best museum in Indonesia. Very informative and everything seems carefully planned. The security check is quite tight, understandable considering what's inside. The ticket is Rp5000, very cheap for what you'll see. If you bring a bag, they'll require you to keep it in their locker. Not sure about the parking but you can use MRT and change in Bundaran HI and use TransJakarta to Kota Tua or use KRL and stop at Kota Stasiun which also has an iconic building.

A really good history museum as well as banking. Museum was excellent, just sorry we didn't get there at 13:00 to enjoy it for the full two hours. Missed the gold bars because of it. Not too busy, but lots of visitors leaving at closing time. And price was great too!

Bank Indonesia Museum is a bank museum located in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was founded by Bank Indonesia and opened on 21 July 2009. The museum is housed in a heritage building in Jakarta Old Town that had been the first headquarters of the Netherlands Indies gulden (De Javasche bank), the central bank of the Dutch East Indies. The bank was nationalized as Bank Indonesia in 1953, after Indonesia gained its independence. It is located next to Bank Mandiri Museum. This museum hold many stories about Indonesia Monetary System from prehistoric until the modern times. You can also see the replica of real golds where its used as national treasure.

Actually it is a very good place to visit if you want to know more about the monetary history of Indonesia. But you must spare extra time for your visit since it is located in a very crowded traffic, i am 99% sure you'll be trapped in traffic jam on your way to / from this museum, especially if you drive / ride your own car / bike. You cannot bring anything except id card, wallet and cellphone, even water bottle is not allowed. Inside, you will find many information about monetary system, historic figures, money that has ever used in Indonesia. The information so detailed and made you think that reading it is more important than take a photo itself 😅 I recommend you to visit it as individual, not follow a group activity. This museum is rarther big and since a group activity will always follow the schedule given by the committee, so you only has a little time to enjoy all of the collection here. Despite of that, i respect for one that still choose museum as their vacation agenda since most of locals do not visit museum much.

The BI Museum is located in the disused De Javasche Bank building in the Old Town of Jakarta, a location steeped in historical significance. The Government designated the site a cultural heritage building in accordance with Jakarta Gubernatorial Decree No. 475 of 1993. Preservation of the building is consistent with Jakarta government policy to declare the Old Town as an area of historical significance.  As a pioneer of cultural heritage revitalisation in the Old Town, Bank Indonesia presents a trove of knowledge concerning Bank Indonesia’s role and contribution in the historical journey of Indonesia, while elaborating the motivation behind Bank Indonesia's policies over time

This museum is really good. Bank Indonesia has put up a very nice exhibits, good collection of money from Indonesia and rest of the world. They have various room for display. There's a theatre inside although right now the presentation is for children only. The museum is not completely done, still some exhibition are in construction. All exhibits will be open in March 2018. The museum also have audio guide in several languages. Check the reception desk for detail on how to rent the audio guide device.

Located in Old City of Jakarta or Kota Tua Jakarta. Not connecting directly with but so near with way to Transjakarta bus station or even train station. Easy to find another options of public transportations. It's big museum, good maintenance but still cheap price. There are AC and many fans inside. Some spaces are closed, we don't know how but with open spaces, it's enough to make us tired. Recommended place to visit. But unfortunately not accessible for disabled one.

A nice place to learn the history of Indonesia in term of Banking & monetary system started from the Dutch era with Javasche Bank until being nationalized as Bank of Indonesian in the old historical building in the Old Batavia Town. The collection of coins from all over the world in the most interesting one besides the gold bars room.

I was coming as a group and their services are so great! The guides are so nice & able to speak in both Bahasa Indonesia and English. The place has nice temperature compared to another museum in Kota Tua. It is also very clean and even has a spot for the visitors to sit and having their own lunch. It also has nice photo booths!! It will be better if the security should allow the groups to enter base on their own arrangement 🙏🏻🙏🏻

(Translated by Google) BACKGROUND OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF BANK INDONESIA MUSEUM The BI Museum occupies the BI Kota building which was previously used by De Javasche Bank, a building that has high historical value. The government has designated the building as a cultural heritage building in accordance with the Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Province no.475 of 1993. Preservation of the BI Kota building is in line with the DKI Jakarta Government's policy of declaring the Kotatua area as one of the historical areas in Jakarta. As one of the pioneers of the revitalization of historical buildings in Kotatua, BI intends to share knowledge regarding the role of BI in the nation's history, including presenting the background of BI policies taken from time to time. This is one of the reasons for the emergence of the idea of the importance of the existence of the Bank Indonesia Museum (Original) LATAR BELAKANG PENDIRIAN MUSEUM BANK INDONESIA Museum BI menempati gedung BI Kota yang sebelumnya digunakan oleh De Javasche Bank, gedung yang mempunyai nilai sejarah yang tinggi. Another winner in the museum category, especially if you like money and history. The museum went on and on. There was the history of the establishment of the Dutch Bank and it's evolution. It covers architecture, local money, Dutch money and has money from around the world. It cost us 5000 rupiah a piece. Honestly, that's close to free. I recommend it to everyone.

It displays the history of Bank of Indonesia. You can also see the Indonesian banknotes from the era before the Independence Day till now. One thing to remember : don't forget to bring back-up batteries for your camera before you left your bag at the security post. They lend you transparant bag & you can only bring wallet, mobile phones & camera

The main content of this museum is the history of money in Indonesia. But the first thing you gonna see is the history of Indonesia before the money was exist. After that you will find the history of Indonesia when Indonesia was in a fatal economic crisis. Ah, just before that you will see so many statue which describes several of Indonesian activity at that time. Furthermore, is the main content, the history of money in Indonesia. You can see so many money development from that era to the present. Also there is a big vault that contain of so many golds (fake golds) and there is one fake golds that you can try it’s weight (similar to the original one). Oh, you can also see money from other country, but it’s not the new one it’s the old one. The last thing you can see here is the old money printing machine. About the buildings and structure, it’s “Treasure” for the architect because it’s constructed by The Javasche Bank and it’s well kept by the museum management. Clean and looks very elegance with the new renovation. About the ticket price is Rp 5000 for weekdays, I am not sure whether there is a different ticketing price for weekend and weekdays. It’s awesome, you have to check it!

I've never gone to the museum before but any expectation I have for this museum goes passed beyond it. The knowledge in this museum is being served in really interesting displayed which made the experience worth the time and the money. The ticket cost you only for 5k Rupiah. Inside the museum, you will feel like you travel the past but still in the present because of the technology presented in. I like that they displayed a lot of artifacts like the old money, gold and definitely the knowledge

One of the 2 best museum we visited in Jakarta. I have been curious about why the indonesian currency is so slow since I got here and this place explained it perfectly. It was honest and straightforward with lots of English text available. The building itself is also beautiful! My favorite was the green tiled room. So pretty.

As a museum afficionado, I’ve had visited many museums around the world. Pros first; cheap entry ticket only 5k idr or less than 30 cents USD per person and even free for your children if they bring their student cards with them. Beautiful architecture. Clean, spacious, well air conditioned. Big parking lot for cars and buses. Easy access using public transport especially using busway, and MRT in the near future. Cons; the exhibits has too many walls of texts so I wouldn’t recommend this place for families with small children. Exhibits aren’t well maintained; too many non working buttons and no clear signage whether you could touch some of the display or not. Even reaching the ticket box from the parking lot took us too long, we need to ask a couple of security guards. Disjointed themes made us confused as parents in explaining some of the exhibits to our 8 & 10 years old children. Very little interesting knowledge to be had considering the space it has. Side note, but I was surprised that our latest currency (2022 emission) wasn’t displayed at all. We’re talking about a museum that represents the history of our central bank! TLDR; if you like museum, this is one of the best in Jakarta area, but I won’t visit this place for the 2nd time, once is enough.

A place to go for history lover particularly those who want to know the history of Bank Indonesia, our central bank. It is located in Kota Tua, Jakarta where the first bank in Indonesia was founded by the Dutch. I will be happy to make a second visit and bring my pen to take note!

So far, this is one of the best museum i have been to. Perhaps because it is funded and managed by Bank Indonesia, the central bank who has no money issue... hehehe. Everything about this place us awesome. The building is old but extremely well-cared, clean, grand... I can feel the extravagance of the colonial era here, the patio is so WOW.... The museum tells the history about "money" really well, banking in the past, spice trading, dutch occupation, etc. ... so much to learn in here... really satisfied.
