Ethnographic Museum houses ethnography of the whole Dalmatia. It houses a collection of traditional costumes, jewelry, lace, weapons, toys and tools. Best of all you can climb the Roman terrace encircling the top of the vestibule, and the views are reason enough to visit the museum.

Fantastic, small museum with a collection of traditional arts and crafts objects from Croatian culture. In addition, it gives you access to the Vestibule terrace, with a breathtaking view of the old town. It’s free with the Split card, and only 3eur entrance for a regular ticket.

This museum is part of Dioclecian's Palace - an incredibly well-preserved ancient historical site

Visiting this museum is a must! The contents alone warrant this, however the museum also has access to the rooftop of the Vestibule! The views are wonderful! Just don't lean too far over or try taking a selfie! Attached two photos one from within the Vestibule and one looking into it :-)

(Translated by Google) If you are splitting and want to experience a remarkable event in your kee you will discover the story and still experience something superior. I feel like I was filling right away as I walked into the museum. I remembered his charms through history, and I experienced something superbly while I looked at such a beautiful view from the terrace. I think it is suitable for every age and age. It's nice and while you come out of it you will come up with the knowledge and feel that you have tried something new and exciting. No words. This museum, no... This divine treasure of human history is so unbelievably ethnographic I nearly lost my metaphorical excrement as soon as I entered the lobby. The wooden paddle forks were endearingly large as was the overly enthusiastic room on salt educationally learnful. "Salt". SAAAAAAAAAAAL-

5 Kuna to go to the vestibule is the best value attraction in Split. Escape the crowds below and see the city from another angle. Also the woman working on reception was incredibly friendly and helpful.

So many things inside but quite boring for those who don't know much about ethnography. A plus is that you could look at the vestibule from the top

Amazing exhibitions; permanent ones with traditional costumes, jewellery and furniture from the olden days and visiting ones about the sea and fishing, long traditions of Croatian coast. I have learned so much, thank you!

I recommend to pay the 5 kuna fee to go on the rooftop, the views on Split and the Diocletian’s Palace are impressive.

Museum is cheap, has some interesting exhibits and comes with a great view from the vestibule, whose entrance is around the corner. Cons are that while everything is labeled and translated into English, the information boards in each room are in dry, highly specific and very boring academic language (at least in English; they are also in Hrvatski, Deutsch, Français and Italiano). More simple-language narratives and fewer words overall would have been nice. For example, I noticed that a lot of the clothes were festooned with Austro-Hungarian coins. That’s interesting and unusual. Would have been nice to know how, where and why that got started. Also, the place is mostly breeze- and shade-cooled, even though there was at least one heat pump. God knows how Dalmatians survived in these heavy, wool outfits! Bathrooms / WC was free and clean.

A strange experience! Housed in 2000 year old walls in old town Split, the exhibitions show bizarre mixes of posters of orientalist paintings (several of Jean-Leon Gerome) (yes, mostly inspired by Egypt) together with beautiful local folk dresses, knives, jewellery, handicrafts etc, no more than 150 years old. I giggled my way through in 15 minutes (included toilet break).

This is a very clean and spacious museum full of colourful exhibits. Like some of the other museums I wish there was more information around the exhibits. 'This is a man's outfit from the 19th C' isn't really that informative.

Extensive collection of clothing, jewellery, and weapons, charting the history of Croatia. Well worth a visit, it is very large with several levels and is not that expensive to go to (unlike some other attractions). You also have access to the top of the vestibul with panoramic views of the city.

Small but very impressive, a must for everyone interested in folk art - textiles and woodcarving in particular. Most of the exhibition is in croatian, english, italian and german. It is not so much a museum about the history of the city and more about local customs. I found the traditional textile work very lovely - the museum shop also carries some books (8-13 euro) on the topics. To avoid standing around like we did - the entrance is not the big glass door facing the rotunda although it might look like that, instead it is a smaller door on the other side - follow the triangles.

Very nice small museum for people intrested in etnography. For most tourists might be a bit borning. The opening hours were 10-18 in september, but they are seasonal. For 3 euros great experience. Two suggestions: add a few chairs to the rooms and a bit longer texts about folk costumes. Hvala!

Interesting to see something of the history of Croatia. Too bad it's mostly traditional clothes. But with the Split card it is free and definitely worth our time

This was a highlight for us of Split. We loved the museum. Small enough, but big enough. Perfect for all ages. My 9 year old loves it and really brought history to life. Highly recommend you to go!

extremely fascinating museum with exhibits showcasing the ethnographic history of traditional garments, jewellery, and other handicrafts (furniture, toys, fishing gear) of the dalmatian region. most written information is in several languages including english. very fair price at £3/person, we spent a good 2.5 hours there and would have stayed longer, only had to leave because of closing time. best if you start exploring on the top floor and work your way down - it's a bigger museum than it appears! anyone remotely interested in fashion history or traditional garment making will find this a gold mine, even though some of the garments are replicas many are still original pieces. my only tiny critique is that some of the museum lighting could use reworking - many exhibits are in glass cases and the lamps are angled so that the light bounces poorly and it's difficult to see or photograph items sometimes. however this did not detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the museum.

Generally nice place, not too expensive, you can see very nice collection if folk costumes but it's not too rich after all. Also a huge disadvantage is lack of terminal.

The best museum in Split! Great exhibition of regional historical costume and other local cultural history. Well laid out and spacious, and has an outside terrace with chairs to enjoy the view. It’s also possible to climb to the top of the palace for great views of the city around the open dome of the palace.

An absolute gem. It flawlessly weaves together Croatia's history and traditions through its exhibits. A delightful balance of old-world charm and modern presentation makes it a must-see.

Worth it for the tower view and a few interesting and unintentionally funny things to see. Don't go out of your way to see or cancel other plans for it though if doesn't suit.

This is a lovely museum in the old town of Split. It houses a collection of historic costumes, jewellery and photos of the area and, when we visited, a temporary exhibition on the ground floor of photographs from East Africa. The building itself is also beautiful and there are great views from most of the windows across old Split. If you're visiting, ask about how to get to the roof terrace, which is actually above the old vestibule of the Roman palace - very quiet and peaceful with great views as well.

Interesting museum to visit both for the exhibits (traditional clothing, jewelry) and for the building itself, which is part of the ancient Diocletian Palace and over the years parts of the space were used as a mansion, convent, and church. Nice outdoor spaces and views over Old Town Split. Entry is 20 kn ($3).
