I have been training for 12 years and been an instructor for 8. Smash BJJ head coach Adam Smith is top of the chain when it comes to teaching the art and helping people achieve their individual goals. Each experience I have with him makes me a better martial artist, both in practice and as an instructor.

My children have been going to the Smash Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school for over 3 years now and I couldn't ask for a better experience for them. The staff is educated, experienced, positive, helpful, and dedicated. The owner, Adam Smith, puts his blood, sweat and tears into his business. He even makes sure to coach a few days per week at each of the three locations, to make sure his attention is divided properly into all of the schools. Love this school and I wouldn't take my kids anywhere else!

I have been in the game since 1986, was introduced to BJJ around 1994 i believe. I have been around a lot of instructors and schools. Have coached many school owners.. Adam is the real deal! Excellent instructor that knows his game! I bring Adam into my school to teach my students for seminars . And they LOVE his teaching… I hired him to teach a Camp in Hawaii. The Students LOVED his teaching!

I would not personally trust my children to Adam “Smash” Smith. We signed a 6-month contract for his women’s only program, enrolling our daughters. Two months into the contract, he sent an email stating that to enhance his gym, he wanted all students to start competing. This same email stated that he was phasing out the women’s only membership, but he did not state that we could not finish our current contract. Instead, he began sporadically cancelling the class with limited make-up opportunities. Then, one week they substituted a “sip and paint” night for the class, which you had to be 21 and over to attend. My daughter was 16. I complained and stated I should be refunded. Mr. Smith sent me an email almost immediately stating that he was cancelling our account, and that we were no longer welcome at his gym. I tried reasoning with him, I tried apologizing (but, for what?! – asking for a service I had already paid for!), but to no avail. His responses to me were so over the top and rash, there was no logical explanation for his behavior. When I complained about paying for a class that my daughter could not even attend, he responded that the teacher was a “mother, a nurse...and a volunteer.” In other words, how dare I complain. My question to Mr. Smith: If I’m paying for the class, why are you not paying the teacher?? We have attended 3 jiu jitsu gyms in different states, and we have NEVER had an issue with a gym/coach. ANY complaint, politely worded, and fully merited is called out as “bullying” and “abuse.” Mr. Smith has ZERO conflict resolution skills, and he does not honor contracts, nor does he seem to respect women. Adam Smith will play the victim card at any opportunity.

This is a great gym to train at, all three locations. They are well kept, clean, and you will definitely get your training in. If you don't leave tired amd learn something, you aren't applying yourself. My daughter and I have been here for a few years and we love the versatility of the training we get at spo valley, airway heights and deer park. Also, we have many great champions to visit and teach, Marcelo Alonso, Carlson Gracie Jr., Yuri Simoes, and Mason Fowler to name a few. Also, the kids classes are amazing, they will learn to defend themselves and have fun doing it. Stop in and give it a try.

Smash BJJ is a wonderful, welcoming, family friendly academy with fantastic instruction, helpful staff, and an all around great community. My children, myself and my husband all train with Professor Smith and have grown to love not only the art and sport of Jiu Jitsu but the community and friendships only a great program can foster. Prices are reasonable especially for the amount of training available at the three locations. It’s an amazing opportunity to have consistent instruction not only in one location but also the ability to flex to the other locations if your schedule requires it. I can not recommend the program enough.

Professional and knowledgeable staff and the best BJJ in the Spokane area. I've been to a half a dozen or more Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy is in the Pacific Northwest. I can say from experience professor Smith is by far the most knowledgeable instructor I've worked with. Do yourself a favor and come try out a class and learn from one of the best in the Pacific Northwest.

I have been attending this location multiple times a week for approximately 3 years. The school is always clean, the other students are friendly and welcoming and the instructors are very knowledgeable. Adam and the other instructors explain the lesson of the day in small understandable pieces and keep the students engaged. They offer a variety of classes including gi, no gi, mma, and kids classes. Overall this gym is fantastic and I recommend anyone regardless of belt level come train.

The owner is a wonderful person with big heart, great patience and love for childrens and his team are so professional ! In my opinion, it's very cool when a person has a business that he loves, which captures him, he is ready to engage in a hobby as much as he wants and gets joy and pleasure from it. I admire these people 🙌 I could not find any better martial art academy for my 3 year old son 👌

My kids and I joined in July of 2021. I cant say enough good things about Adam and his team of coaches. They are great instructors. My kids love jiujitsu and Muay thai and so does their old man!

I decided to try Jiu-Jitsu a few months ago, and I am so grateful that I started my journey at Smash. I did not have a background in martial arts (I didn’t even watch UFC), yet I was welcomed by Adam and the other students on day one. Adam has built an incredible community of support and curates his classes for students of different skill levels and goals. Each class is not only a great workout but also mentally stimulating and fun. Adam and the other instructors helped me find something that I love outside of work, and I just cannot get enough!
