This is a very nice turn of the century hotel with tons of character and charm. The staff were friendly, prompt and attentive. The rooms were clean and updated (to period). Can’t wait to come back! Also there are lots of breweries and coffee shops within a block or two…enjoy.

Absolutely the best customer service anywhere. The desk clerk on evening shift was so helpful, courteous and friendly. When we left in the morning the night shift attendant took us on a shortcut to the parking lot because it was so cold outside. Wow!! So thoughtful. The hotel is very historic. Beautiful antique furniture throughout the hotel. Fireplace in the presidential sweet so beautiful. I am only sorry we did not stay longer

Our entire family stayed here for our daughter’s wedding. It was beyond beautiful. The entire hotel feels like home. Historical hotel with all the important modern features. What we loved the most was that all our rooms opened up to this giant center room with fireplace. Damn Good Coffee house right next door.

An amazingly charming hotel in a great location. The parking situation is not the best; the two lots nearest the hotel are a bit small for the amount of guests they seem to take in, but that appears to just be a problem with downtown Spokane as a whole. The bed was advertised as a queen, but it might have been just a little smaller than that; even if it did lack an inch or two, it was very likely the most comfortable bed I've ever experienced n a hotel room! The bedding was clean, the bed was made as neat and tight as if it had been done by a drill instructor, and the pillows were amazingly soft and comfortable. The TV was a little small, but if you're going to just sit in the room watching TV when you're smack in the middle of downtown, why are you even on vacation? The interior of the hotel is funky in the best possible way; multiple seating areas, bright and colorful décor. The restaurant in the lower level looked nifty as well, though we didn't visit it. The standout of our stay, however, was the service; we stayed August 5, 2023, arriving right around 5 o'clock, and the young man working the front desk was polite, friendly, helpful and just the absolute picture of service. When you book with a hotel that isn't one of the major national chains, polite and friendly service really makes or breaks the experience - far too often, you find yourself having strained, awkward or just plain unpleasant interactions with hotel staff that view your stay as an inconvenience. This young man made sure we had the exact opposite experience - the hotel layout is a bit awkward, but his friendly demeanor and welcoming energy ensured that the first impression was inviting and warm rather than off-putting or alienating. It's a shame we didn't catch his name, because we would really love to ensure he gets the proper recognition for just how much of a positive impact he had on our stay. Hopefully, this review goes some way toward ensuring that happens. The rest of the staff we interacted with were also perfectly polite and pleasant, but he was something else! Overall, this hotel is an amazing find, especially at the price. It will be hard to choose any other location for future trips we might make to Spokane when we know this little gem exists, and I get the feeling that we will find any alternate choices wanting, should we make them.

We had a great stay at this hotel! The room was cute with a microwave and a mini fridge! They also has a huge tv that was super nice. The bed was comfy and we loved the history around it. Front desk were all super nice! Highly recommend

I CANNOT rave about this hotel any more than I have since our stay. My husband and I flew down to see our two all time favorite bands at the knitting factory but the hotel could have easily been my favorite part (I mean the bands were great too 😂). The staff were incredibly accommodating, letting us check in early so we could nap after catching a red eye flight, and also were able to get us a room facing the knitting factory so we could keep an eye on people lining up for the show. Our first impression was literally magic - the art, the vibe, and they had whimsical Harry Potter music playing which was chefs kiss. Really brought the moment to the next level. The room was BEAUTIFUL, renovated nicely, and dare I say THE most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. The fitness center was super convenient albeit very creepy to navigate to early in the morning haha. It was central to everything we needed during our stay - we walked to the best restaurants, loved seeing the old architecture, I was able to walk down to a great tattoo shop and get a commemorative tattoo and then 2 minutes later be walking back into the hotel to change and cross the street to catch the concert. We had such an incredible time staying at the Montvale. I cannot thank everyone there enough for the incredible experience and I'm lowkey praying good bands line up at the knit next year too so we can stay here again 🤞 10/10 best hotel experience of my life. THANK YOU!!

We loved the 2nd floor living room atrium area with coffee and places to sit. Bathroom was roomy and well done. The AC kept the room cool enough that the standard issue on-or-off comforter wasn't too hot. The bed is our only real criticism. It's time for new mattresses. This one was well-used and felt like a hammock: saggy in the middle and high at either end.

What a charming hotel! It was very quiet and clean, and everyone was friendly and helpful. Lots of character! The only downside was that I chose this place online, partly because it was stated that there were three restaurants connected to the hotel. I was alone and did not feel comfortable walking anywhere at night, so this was appealing. However, only ONE of the restaurants was open. The other two were completely closed. The Gilded Unicorn, under the hotel, was amazing! I loved the ambiance and service, and the food was absolutely delicious! But the menu was very small, and as I was staying a week, I did not want to eat there every night. Plus, they don't serve breakfast. I wish I'd known this ahead of time.

We stayed one night at the Montvale and had a great time! The staff were very helpful and friendly, and the hotel itself is beautiful. They offer parking in gated lots which is also nice. The 4pm check-in time can be a little annoying to work around when you are coming from out of town, but overall the experience was great and I would definitely consider staying here again :)

Pros: Friendly staff. Large/clean room. Amazing restaurant/bar in basement of hotel. Ambiance. Price. Cons: This hotel is definitely haunted, I had an unwanted experience, unless you’re into that sort of thing. The location of the hotel itself is right downtown. I personally don’t like that because driving downtown in a large city is not for me. Some may seek that though. Parking can be tough.

Brian may be the nicest and most inviting front desk person we've ever come across. We were visiting for our anniversary and everything was great. Love the vintage style rooms and beautiful decor. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks Brian and the Montvale staff for a great weekend.

Old world charm with a lovely 2nd floor lounge and interesting art abound. We loved the location right downtown across the street from the show we were seeing. Limited FCFS parking in the back for $10 but well worth it. Nothing fancy here but the bed was comfortable and the room was clean. We didn’t love the cheap pillows and bedding but we slept well on the 3rd floor and have decided not to take a star off for that one issue. Friendly staff and nice big stairs which we used more than the elevator.

Beautiful hotel with a cozy feel. The rooms feel less like a hotel and more like staying at a wealthy friend's house. The floors are squeaky but it adds to the old world feel. It smells wonderful, not like a hotel just a nice sweet but clean smell.

It is the oldest hotel in Spoken! After remodeling, it turns out to be a cozy, well-made, and comfortable hotel. Perfect for a family! I definitely recommend this hotel for a night!!

Awesome unique hotel. Comfortable beds which is a must for me. Hate sleeping on bricks haha. Lots of good dining options on the same block or within a couple blocks. Beautiful decor throughout and for the most part very quiet. One side of the building does face the railroad tracks though so you can hear some train noise. Only other complaint really would be that the hot water can struggle to keep up at times. Other than that I would definitely recommend this place.

Another great stay at Montvale Hotel! This historic hotel is such a fantastic location! Within walking distance of entertainment and great food! Our room was so peaceful considering we were right downtown. No traffic noise. A special Thank you to Brian at check in for going above and beyond. Excellent customer service and hospitality.

The Montvale is an amazing and unique experience with a very historic and boutique vibe. The decor is on point, . The staf were amazing and VERY friendly. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The location was absolutely perfect. Very convenient to all the downtown venues. It made our Friday night stay cay absolutely perfect! Will definitely be back again! Highly recommended as well. A big shout out to Brian, the young gentleman at the front desk and the manager Denise!

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD. Paper thin walls or vent system makes it so that we’re basically inside other peoples rooms. It is currently 1:35 am and I’ve been listening to two women cackle all day and now all night. She’s going to visit her sister in Texas next week. I can tell you everything they’ve discussed LOUDLY. And now they’re playing music. Also, when they walk or stomp around you feel the room shake. Horrible experience.

When we had an unexpected change in plans that required us to check out immediately after check in, the receptionist and hotel manager took care of my wife and I in an unexpected and very generous way. We were surprised and grateful - unexpected customer service. During our brief time there, the hotel and room were clean, beautiful, and full of character. We'll be sure to stay here the next time we visit Spokane.

I love this unique and charming hotel! I loved learning and reading about the history of this property. The communal space and lounge area was unique and comforting - gorgeous fireplace! The hotel smelled nice and the rooms were big. There was parking out back that was easily accessible and I even used the business center to work from. Location was in the heart of downtown and had great coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance. This hotel had everything. Most importantly, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and even gave my service animal a doggy bag upon check in!

+1 star for having a vacancy when their competitors did not for an impromptu stay, located near downtown entertainment venues +1 star for very friendly and efficient staff for check-in and check-out -1 star for not having a working thermostat -1 star for no coffee maker or other incidentals aside from tap water and bar soap -1 star for a middling comfort bed that resulted in tossing and turning (likely related to thermostat) Montvale charged me $166 for the privilege of sleeping in a room in that state. And while I am grateful they had a vacancy so late into the night for an impromptu stay after a concert and too many drinks to drive home safely, I have slept in Motel 6 rooms with more amenities and comfort.

We arrived very late and we're greeted nicely. Room was clean and well appointed. No coffee machine was actually more of a convenience as it made me get moving to get coffee from the excellent coffee shop onsite. Will stay here whenever we are in Spokane.

The people were nice. But for $300. NO WAY. SAVE YOUR MONEY. The only thing is the hotel, the old part is nice and warm and romantic, but we stayed in the the wedding suit and it was ugly. Everything was grey (I mean everything is grey). I was expecting flowers or something romantic. And what I saw was cold grey and sterile. I was not impressed and it was not romantic. It was ok. I hope I never stay in the wedding suit again. What a rip off in price. And there was a big dog barking all night. The Montvale made my wedding night uneventful. And if the owners are reading this. We were at the suit #301 on Sept 10th. Erin

While the room was clean, sound from the room above was a real issue and woke me up early in the morning. This was from heavy footsteps/walking, nothing outrageous and it still woke me up. The blinds were also not that great for keeping the room dark. I arrived around midnight local time due to my flights. Check in and parking was less than smooth, especially for someone weary from travel and coming from eastern standard time. Staff was attempting to train a new employee and parking was very cramped and barely manageable. When asked for compensation regarding the noise and 2 hours of sleep as a result, I was told that it would be noted for the next stay and nothing further. I would suggest a larger brand hotel, especially given the cost.

Love the vibe and aesthetic. The bathroom shower drained really slow so the water backed up when showering. It was just for one night and oops totally flaked on mentioning it to front desk…I’ll call…rm 311. Apart from that nice pull down bed for additional guess, linen was clean. Staff was welcoming and I liked that they locked up the parking lot at nights key access only. Oh one more very important thing….front desk said room number out aloud when checking in…for safety that practice has changed.

I really want to give this place a better rating. The location is good. The beds are comfortable. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly. But, my God the noise! We heard a dog howl for 3 hours straight. We could hear the people above us the entire night. They weren't being loud, but every creak, every move on the bed, every time they walked it was so loud. Not a good night's sleep. I'd rather be at the LA Quinta next to the homeless camp. At least it's quiet inside.

Our stay in Montvale was great. We checked in around 3 am after arriving from Amtrak and it was smooth. The room was very spacious and air-conditioned (important since those were days over 100F). We get to borrow bikes for free--- Spokane is a wonderful place to bike around. The only thing we complaint about was the choppy internet. The hotel service person was very nice and responsive, but I don't think it was fixed in the end...

Hidden gem in Spokane! Wow!! I've always wanted to stay at the oldest operating hotel in Spokane, but our stay far exceeded our expectations! The front desk staff and all the employees are helpful, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are beautifully decorated and they have a wonderful second floor common area that was perfect for our family to gather and visit. Centrally located to many of the breweries cideries and wonderful restaurants. Riverfront Park is just a short walk away. We really enjoyed being able to walk and explore Spokane. Was the perfect spot for us to enjoy Gonzaga graduation weekend.

This was the first time I ever wanted to hang out in the common area of a hotel. It felt like I was just in someone's very cozy living room. 😉It was clean, beds were comfortable etc. I know this may sound weird maybe but I'm all about not having to drink bottled water. Since this is a old building in the city I thought the water was going to taste like metal and chemicals. It was really good and cold. 👍🙂💦 I also liked that the hotel was near everything and you could just walk to the bars, resteraunts and concert hall. Awesome place. It may be a bit older and worn in but that makes it comfortable and casual too. Besides it was very clean and the staff was nice. Oh it also seemed safe because they lock the doors at night so you have to have a key or code to get in the building. 👮‍♂️👍I'll be back🙂

Stayed in the bridal suite with my family and we loved it! Full kitchen, full dining area, washer and dryer, large shower and two bedrooms for that price can't be beat. I loved the historic feel of the building. It was beautiful!

In town on a business trip. This place was very clean and quiet. Super friendly service! The 24 hour coffee and tea was a life saver. The soaps smell divine. The bed was a little soft for our liking, however the sheets and blankets were super clean and fresh. My only suggestion would be to add a grab bar in the showers. The small step up is a little tricky getting out of the tub. Excellent value for the money. Looks like this could be a regular stop.

This hotel is really cool! The layout and the finishing touches were fabulous. There was seating in the indoor courtyard and gray art. The feel was early 19th century. Our bed was pretty soft and that is not My wife and my preferred mattress hardness. Restaurants and parking readily available. The parking lot was right behind the building or another one on the other side of the block and fenced in. We could see the train but not really hear it. Great stay except the soft mattress.

This was a great place for us to stay in downtown Spokane. Older hotel, well kept, charming. Or room was very good, clean. Beds are nice, bathroom is roomy and clean. Staff was helpful and friendly. Breakfast is not a typical cooked breakfast, but there are plenty of places to get a good breakfast nearby.

We always stay at the Montvale when we visit family in Spokane. It has been a tried and true place for us throughout the pandemic. They have been very proactive with ensuring they are following healthy and safety guidelines while still providing the comforts of a hotel that we have come to appreciate. My only recommendation with this hotel would be to invest in more effective sound proofing methods between each room and the floors. If you aren't on the top floor, you will definitely hear when the room above decides to get up in the middle of the night and same goes for the rooms adjacent, anyone up late having some fun, it is definitely like you are part of the party with how the sound travels. The staff is absolutely amazing. Extremely attentive and helpful whenever needed. Check-In and Check-Out are effortless.

The Montvale Hotel is in an excellent location. We parked and walked to every attraction — waterfalls, shopping, great restaurants, Fox Theater, Davenport, etc. — that we cared to see. The room was spacious, minimalist and clean. The beds were very comfortable. I loved that the rooms were all placed around a beautiful lounge with a fireplace; it felt as though I were leaving my master suite to sit and enjoy my living room (though MUCH grander than my actual living room, of course). Check in and check out could be done by phone and we loved that convenience. Enjoy your stay at The Montvale Hotel!
