This is a nice smaller zoo that works well with younger children. Peacocks roam freely and you may find them around any corner. The south American Red Wolf is an animal that is extremely interesting, it looks like a large fox. The zoo can easily be viewed in half a day and is to have strollers or wheelchairs. There is also picnic areas just outside the zoo, and a train ride. Hit like if this is helpful.

The zoo takes about 3 hours to casually stroll through. The exhibit have sufficient space and almost all have multiple viewing points to get different angles on the animals. Train tickets are $2 and give you two times around a pond. Entrance costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for kids. Some of the signs are new, others need a good power washing. The park was exceptionally clean. Only 2 exhibits were closed; the others had visible animals - nothing like watching tigers and cheetahs prowl, wolves run, and tortoises well... do what they do. This is a great way to spend the day, picnic outside, and enjoy animals from across the globe.

Great zoo, lots of animals, and chances to interact with them. They have a petting zoo, splash pad, and train tour inside. We loved getting to feed the giraffes and seeing the giant 85 year old tortoise. The snake exhibit was our daughters favorite, they had a corn snake out that she got to pet. They have maps available at the front, and easy to read signs all over the zoo. The food and drink machines only take single dollar bills, so take plenty of ones. They also have a restaurant inside if you want to get a meal. They get bonus points for the cold water fountain and bottle station at the front. So bring a bottle with you, it is a lot of walking.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. This was a pre planed trip so to show up and have to start it out sitting out a storm sucked. It remained gloomy most of the time there that I feel made the animals depressed. None the less, with rain and sun, it was a great trip. Part of the Zoo was closed due to renovations which was a bummer. There wasn't a whole lot of people so it wasn't over crowded and made for a nice day. Out side of the main food area by the restrooms it was a bummer that the food stands were closed. They have all kinds of vending machines spread throughout it, ice cream vending machines and drinks where the ones I seen the most. It's $4 for a soda from the vending machines and the food court wasn't much better. They have a nice deck with table and chairs for customers to sit and eat right next to a playground for the kids to enjoy while the parents take a break, it's a nice little playground too, so cute. The bathrooms by the food court are decent for the amount of use they get, from the looks of it staff keeps up with the bathrooms pretty well. All kinds of cute animal statues all over the place along with giant paintings of butterfly wings and Peacock feathers that you can stand in front of, definitely fun for the kids as well, my 7 yr old stopped at every single one for pictures. Over all, it was great fun, the animals look in great shape, the petting zoo was a blast, staff was awesome and I couldn't of asked for a better day thanks to how friendly and fun this Zoo is. I'll definitely be going back on a day that it's not storming so the animals don't seem so bummed.

Zoo contains all continent's animals( for ex - famous animals from each continent). They are mainting very well. Complete zoo walking area around 2 to 3 km . They have very, very big turtles and a large number of Peacocks(White Peacocks), Giraffes, Lion,Tiger and Elephants....etc. it's having a good collection of reptilie families as well.

What a fun adventurous Zoo. The Zoo takes about 2 to 3 hours to go through. I would go early when they open in warmer weather. The animals are more mobile and eating Breakfast outside when they first open also. The walkways are wide, and flow easy. The petting Zoo has a wide variety of animals to feed. The Giraffe feeding area was also a high light. The staff is very friendly and the exhibits are nicely placed. There are plenty of bathrooms and food options also. Thanks Dickerson Park Zoo for an over all great experience, and fun time.

This zoo is perfect for all ages, so much to see and do my family and I had a blast. You can even feed the giraffes for just a couple of dollars, they give you lettuce to feed them. The zoo also has a train inside too.

Got 2 free tickets for donating blood, so took wife there for her birthday. Good zoo for small city. I've been to OKC zoo. DPZ is good if you can't do alot of walking or don't have much time. Mid July and very hot so alot of the animals were resting or somewhere in the cool. Didn't get to see some because of that. This 2nd time I went in the summer. Gonna try in the late fall next. I like the blue butterfly.

I went with my daughter's school for an honor roll field trip. It was so much fun and all the kids loved it. I'm pregnant so one thing I was really happy about was all the convenient bathrooms they had along the paths. Great food too, my daughter and I shared a huge pretzel with cheese before we had to move on to the next exhibit. The free roaming peacocks are really amazing to see in person.

My family lives the zoo! It’s the perfect distance for my young kids and I to walk from opening until their naps or for my whole family to spend time together at. We’re pass holders so we never have to worry about how long or short a trip is. Giraffe feeding has been a hit with my kids and they love the petting zoo. The train ride is simple, but my kids love it. The ride is the perfect wind down at the end of our visits (Paul, the Tuesday/Thursday driver is the BEST!) Since the exhibits are small and close together, you can see a LOT in a short time. Which is great for my kids’ tiny attention span. The signage at exhibits is wonderful too. Every staff member I’ve ever interacted with is kind and loves to share about whatever animal is nearby. They do animal encounters as well where you can Q&A with zookeepers. The playground equipment is pretty central which is great for a pit stop. The only down side is that it’s most appropriate for ages 5-12 (and there are a LOT of younger kids that visit during the mornings). My kids have always found things to do on the equipment that’s safe, but I do wish it had more for their age group.

Went with friends on a nice winter day to stretch little legs. The peacocks that roam throughout the park are so beautiful. The otters were so playful today. We usually only make it thru half the park before little kegs are tired which makes it seem like a new park when we come back and start at the other end. We have an annual pass and it never gets old.

Dickerson Park Zoo has a lot of zoo in a small space. All that considered, it is a nice zoo. They are currently doing some revisions, but it still made for an enjoyable visit. Kids loved playing in the splash area.

  • 4/5 Adam R. 3 years ago on Google
For the size of Springfield, this Zoo is wonderful. Feeding the Giraffes was a mind blowing experience for my little girl, and seeing monkeys for the first time almost brought her to tears. Many of the enclosures are rather nice, with many of them having more than enough space for the animals there. The otter enclosure was another favorite, and they seemed to love the attention. We are thinking about getting memberships so our daughter can grow up with the magic that is the zoo. I've been to better, sure, but I've absolutely been to worse. We will absolutely be back.

This is such a fun little zoo! We spent three hours here but could have spent more. They have really improved a lot of the exhibits since the last time I'd been there, so it was really fun to see. Be warned it is hot because of all the blacktop, but it's worth it.

We love this zoo! It has lots of shade so you don't feel too over heated. They have a large picnic area so we always pack lunch when we go. This is a great place to take your family 😊

This was a very fun place, we went on field trip day and it was pretty crowded, but really that was the only downfall, the animals were all fairly active and seemed somewhat happy. The zoo was very very clean, they're enclosures where very clean and the bathrooms were also very clean.

We love Dickerson Park Zoo. The re-imagined children's waterplay area is a hit with our family. We've been going to this zoo for over 10 years and seen expanded exhibits, experienced community outreach, and attended education classes and birthday parties. We enjoy riding the train each time we visit. For our family, the yearly passes are a great investment, and connect to a network of zoos all over the USA, perfect for family vacations. We are extremely satisfied with Dickerson Park Zoo and will continue to support them.

Very nice zoo. Got to see several animals that were not at my hometown zoo, Riverbanks in SC. I love that most of the walking paths were shaded by foliage. Lion was active. Never been so close to an ostrich or otter. Great place to visit.

We did her annual Mother's Day trip to the zoo and once again it was incredible. There was plenty of animals out and active and the personnel was handy and were spread throughout the zoo. Definitely love our Dickerson Park zoo

Not a huge zoo, but for a town the size of Springfield it's pretty cool. The enclosures are kept nice, the facilities are clean, and there are noticeable improvements every year. The park board runs the zoo and they do a great job with what they have.

This is a nice zoo, but the day we decided to make this trip, it was way too hot. We only stayed for about an hour. I was thankful they had a splash pad. If you are coming in the summer, I highly recommend bringing clothes for the kids to get wet in. The people working at the front gate were not that friendly, and while my Tulsa zoo membership shows we get in this zoo for free, they said I only got 50% off. No big deal, I just thought they could be more friendly about it. All other staff we encountered were very friendly, including the girl selling food for the giraffes. Overall this is a nice little zoo. One thing I didn't understand is why they didn't have any maps for the zoo. It was very difficult to find what we wanted to see without a map.

I do enjoy this zoo. Week days aren't over crowded. Good variety of animals and not so big you can't see them all in one visit. Just like any zoo anything else you buy is overly priced $12.50 for 2 Chicken strips and some fries but overall a decent zoo.

This zoo is a smaller zoo, but still has plenty of exhibits and sights to see. Feeding the giraffes is always a fun thing, as well as the petting zoo with the goats and llama. The paths have plenty of shade, so even on a sunny day you won't get too hot. The reptiles house was closed due to covid, but most of the other areas were open. The pathways are designed for wheelchairs and strollers to have easy access to all exhibits.

While we have a pretty awesome zoo here in Houston, it’s always fun to visit other cities’ zoos and see what they have to offer. This zoo definitely didn’t disappoint! While it was a little chilly when we visited (we’re from Texas, so 37 degrees is cold, okay?), the animals were totally used to it and out and about in their confinements. Our favorite animals we spotted were the giraffes, kangaroos, and lions. It was also really neat to see how the peacocks were just everywhere! They were wandering all over the place - but steering clear of the tiger cage of course. This is a great place to visit if you have little ones or are an animal lover yourself.

Dickerson Zoo is a great place to go for a few hours or all day. It's a nice walk and all the animals were available to see. It is a small zoo, but it has a large variety of animals. It is a safe place to explore with safety measures in place for social distancing.

Beautiful fall day. Not very many other people in the zoo giving us the ability to distance from others. Most animals out available for viewing. We took small snacks and drinks so the kids didn’t get grumpy from being hungry. The otters are always fun to watch. I didn’t know you could feed the giraffes!! Didn’t see any lemurs on the islands and was disappointed they don’t have a hippo anymore. Overall it was a great day. Finished it off by letting the kids play on the park equipment outside the park. We will be back!

It was a lot of fun, I hadn't been to the zoo in ages and decided to go. They give you a map at the entrance and you can follow your own tour, or you can follow the tour signs which will lead you around the world exhibits. I chose the latter and had a wonderful time. The kids were laughing and playing, they have little water park stops so the kids can run through the sprinklers. There is a petting zoo as well as a place where you can feed the giraffes. Overall it was a great experience and I am excited to go back soon.

This is our favorite place to come when we are in town. We came here as young married. We have brought our children through the years. Now we bring our grandkids. The weather was perfect for the animals to be out and not too hot for us to visit them. We had an incredible day and, as always, made new friends.

Loved the zoo. It is small, so you can see it all in a half a day. I like that the animals are all able to be viewed on there exhibita easily. You can feed the giraffes for a additional cost, which is a very neat experience and my favorite part of our zoo visit.

Very nice zoo. We preferred this one over Branson's. They had a lot of animals, and the price for entry was very reasonable. If you love Peacocks, this is the place to go!

  • 4/5 Jeff W. 3 years ago on Google
Very nice zoo for this size community. Updates they've made over the last few years have greatly improved the experience. Personally I think the entrance fee is a little high compared to others.

  • 5/5 Megan W. 3 years ago on Google
One of the few zoos I've been to that's actually enjoyable to visit. There is a giraffe feeding deck that even takes credit/debit to purchase snacks to handfeed the giraffes with. Aside from that it's just a lovely walk with a petting area of goats/alpacas, some fish to feed, an of course the peacocks. There are TONS of loose peacocks here that act like they own the place and are very used to humans.

  • 5/5 Laura L. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful zoo! Bigger than I expected. The giraffes and the monkeys were our favorites but the whole zoo visit was lovely.

  • 5/5 Matts O. 3 years ago on Google
Some enclosures are a little small which is sad, especially the one for the Bald Eagle. Good variety of animals, prices are reasonable and there's some social distancing in place. Pretty adequate parking and good chances to interact with/feed some animals including giraffes which was cool! Editing to add: The bald eagle is actually a rescue, so the enclosure is actually adequate. I missed the sign that says this!

I love this zoo and enjoy visiting where we can... Being local, we've become members of the Friends of the Zoo program which pretty much pays for itself in two visits for a family of four. We love the discount on meals with that and also got the souvenir cups so we can take them back when we visit. Being longer term members, I've seen the staff have awesome moments caring for the animals here/there, they give them so much enrichment and you can tell they care. You'll watch and see them grinning and stopping to admire their activity, etc here or there and it's awesome. Their programs for the animals, rehabilitation centered, etc are amazing. They also have amazing education and community outreach programs they do for kids and I'd recommend taking in any of those... The petting zoo area is well maintained, as is the giraffe feeding deck, and indoor areas. The cafe is awesome, you get to eat with peacocks walking around, and the kids can play in the park area that's super nifty too. Just watch out the first time you go to the park area with your kids and make sure they know the green fish is a ladder, not a slide, because it can be confused for as much...and keep in mind that sometimes slides can get hot when the sun is catching the equipment just right. We usually try to go earlier in the morning to avoid that. :) More peaceful, then, too! Less people go first thing, so, you get to take it in with a different dynamic... I rarely see anyone else at that time and the animals are active, yet, calm which is awesome to see and experience. Private petting area fun is great, also, ♡ and more photo ops without the crowd.

Cute zoo and lots of shade and interaction with animals. The playground is good size, both within and outside the zoo. The giraffe feeding is awesome!! We can tell this park is becoming a bit dated, but not enough to spoil our visit. First, there is ample parking, and even when it's busy, like today, the fairground parking is right next door. And both the parking for the zoo and on the fairgrounds is free, as long as there isnt a fair event. The admission price was reasonable, and we got a military discount I wasn't expecting, too. The restrooms are refreshingly clean, and the paths are meandering and easy to navigate, with well-marked signs and moderate landscape. And SHADE. The paths are 90% shaded and there are ample benches, especially on the mild hills. The habitat enclosures are well kept and the animals look cared for. There are signs reminding guests that the wading pools aren't the only source of water for the animals (I didn't know people are concerned about this). The food at the snack bar is pricey, but no more so than for any other captive audience. Our only complaint is the train. It's two dollars per person to ride a train that circumnavigated a small green pond two times (about 5 minutes total). The only wildlife we saw was a log full of turtles; other than that, the attraction is little more than debris filled drainage ditches and, well, that green pond. Honestly, on another day I might have demanded my $8 back. Regardless, this is a nice little zoo with healthy animals and beautiful landscaping. While it could use some freshening up, it was fun and, save for the train, it was well worth the money spent. We will buy the membership next time.

Good zoo for socially distancing. Go in the summer though. Alot of animals were asleep

  • 5/5 T R. 3 years ago on Google
The temperature was around 20/25f today 02/07/21 so many of the outside animals weren't where they are maybe around the summer . So i felt a little disappointed. At first when i went in i thought man it's small . I'll probably only be here for an hour . After completing the whole zoo with limited amount of animals i walked for about two hours . And it definitely gave me an awesome feeling. Specially the giraffes in their enclosure. I have never seen them so up close. They are some beautiful animals. I'm guessing because of the weather and time of year people don't show up much . So honestly i was the only person there! Definitely go and enjoy!😊

Had a blast with the wife and kids! The place is set up really good you can go different routes and see everything without taking the same route twice. Took family to Dickerson park zoo. It wasn't bad but I have been to a few better ones in bigger cities that were more impressive so that is why 4 stars. Toddler had a good time and that was my goal. Her favorite was feeding the goats and cement tunnel areas. Bring hats, sunblock, your own bottle water( 4.00 each at zoo) and very comfortable walking shoes. There are some areas to sit if tired but if you have trouble walking best to bring walker with seat(elders and disabled).

We love going to the zoo! We got there early and saw some animals get fed. We spent about 3 hours there.

Not the biggest zoo, but has almost all of your favorite animals. Very easy to see everything in just 2-3 hours. The vending machines there are ridiculously over priced so I'd get drinks/snacks before going, and the only restaurant/consecion stand was closed the day I went with my child so I am not sure about prices there, but I'd imagine the same. However my 18 month old had a great time and the animals were very easy to see. Great place to have a fun day, just eat beforehand and you'll have a great time for a good price.

The animals were so active and we heard the lion roar which the kids loved. A very clean zoo!! Lovely walkways.

It's a decent zoo, the first time you go through is normally the most entertaining. There seems to always be one exhibit or another that's closed for one reason or another. Most of the animals are kind of lifeless and just huddle in a corner. The Most entertaining aspect of this zoo in my opinion is the free roaming peacocks

What I loved the most is the natural habitats that the animals were in. I didn't see many cages but mostly land and fences. The animals had plenty of room to roam and didn't seem crowded. The variety of animals were unique as well. Overall good experience.

A great zoo. The kids had a blast and were super excited to be able to feed the giraffes. They have a zoo tour to make sure you hit everything or take your own rout.

The perfect zoo for a family with small children. Easily walkable, and you can see every exhibit in roughly an hour and a half. If you need a break, you can stop at the cafe for food and drinks while your kids play on the playground. Most people hear "zoo" and imagine a hot march across miles of sidewalks. Dickerson Park Zoo is all the fun of the zoo, without the misery of going to the zoo.

My family and I had a great time at the zoo. Perfect size for littles to walk most of the way! Lots of fun animals to see.

Had a great time learning about the animals with the zoo keepers! There's a water fountain play area that we hadn't seen before & the kids had a blast! I would definitely recommend bringing a bathing suit and towel if you're coming in the summer.

Loads of animals and interaction and good food around this glowing example of nature. Peacocks every where! Amazing sights and sounds. Bring your camera, I sure did. Price for entry was low as well.

I have a family membership to my local Phoenix Zoo so I was expecting a discount at the Dickerson Park Zoo, but instead they said my family and I can go in for free! However, I’m not sure if that is the case if you’re a member at any AZA zoo so it’s best to call ahead to find out. The exhibits are intimate and the zoo is a great size for the little ones. Here you’ll find peacocks that roam the park, kangaroos, a maned wolf, grey wolves, a kookaburra, a Malayan tiger, mountain lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and I can keep going but you can find their map on their site.

Wonderful and educational. The staff was extremely knowledgeable. The grounds are clean. The variety of animals to visit was awesome. Kiddos to the staff at the snack shop bc they were so engaged with the kids! Highly recommend!

No hippo kinda sad day for that but overall 4.5 is about right. Took my 1 day from 3 years old daughter to there for first time ever and she wanted to see the flamingos and hippo . It's great zoo though over all. I believe the ice cream needs thrown out because bought a Dippin dots and it was some kinda of freezer burned not sure how long it's been in that machine. Kinda bad to think about.
