An essential visit if you are in Hikkaduwa. The whole experience was very pleasant and I liked pretty much every Batik he has produced. There is a lot of variety from wall hangings to shirts and dresses. We ended up buying 3 and were very happy with the price.

Found this beautiful place in a jungle by riding along the road! Very nice owner, lots of batik pictures and even some clothes. The worship is nearby, among papaya, cinnamon and avocado trees. Highly recommend this place for visiting and purchasing memorable pieces of art.

Very nice batik shop. Hiranntha showed me the tequnique of his work. He learned from his father and grandfather. I was impressed when he showed me how he does it. Hiranntha is very friendly and not pushing me to buy anything. He makes a good price and I can highly recommend his batik shop. He also does workshops where you can learn more about his art. Happy to bring the beutiful art work back home!

Must visit fantastic little shop in the owner's house. Has beautiful Batik (Fabrics) suitable for hanging to clothing to dining room clothes at prices that are very reasonable and significantly than the tourist traps on the main street of Hikkaduwa or Galle.

Before I arrived in Sri Lanka I had only come across the Batik Factory at Ambalangoda during my research. My tuk tuk driver told me to make sure I checked out the Batiks in Hikkaduwa and I am so glad I found this place! As I approached, the artist Wimal called to me from his workshop and showed me the process of how they are made (and explained that the larger pieces with many colours take several weeks from start to finish!) Then he gave me a quick tour of his garden, which is an absolute paradise of mangoes, avocados, pineapples, cinammon, guavas, and passion fruit trees! I looked around his shop while his lovely wife and son picked me some fruit to take home. As I browsed, Wimal pointed out the different techniques he uses, from a marbled effect to tiny dots - the intricate details showing the hours of work he puts in - and told me he is carrying on the family business, the special techniques being passed down from his great-grandfather or even further back. In the end I walked away with an amazing shirt and a beautiful wall hanging, wishing I had more money to spend this trip! I highly recommend a visit here. The prices were much less than in Ambalangoda, and whilst the other factories I saw had small or large teams of ladies making batiks, here it was just Wimal, and meeting him and his family made for a personal experience as well as picking up some beautiful pieces to remember my trip.

Perfect for people who love arts, this is a small family run batik workshop. The owner greeted us kindly and then showed us around his studio, he explained the processes he uses (learned from his grandfather) and we got to see the skilled craftsman at work. An excellent experience with beautiful hand crafted batiks, make sure you visit this hidden gem.

Beautiful handmade Batik fabrics. skills passed on thru generations. Lovely owner and wife. Pretty small road 25mins walk by the side of Chaaya hotel. Owner showed the process and had a little shop too. Better to buy authentic handmade Batik, then the commercial ones in all the main shops. Such labour intensive craftsmanship. Owner also showed his garden full of pineapple, avocado and papaya. Definitely worth a visit!

We absolutely loved our little walk to Genuine Batik. The artist was wonderful showing us how he makes his pieces. So much time and work go into his craft pieces. We also had a little tour around his garden seeing mango trees, papaya one, passion fruit… We purchased a few pieces. There was so much to choose from. Such a lovely people and I will definitely treasure it.

Happen to chance upon this place during our visit to Hikkaduva..truly a hidden gem of this place.. The way the owner explains things to you and his attitude to serve customers is commendable!! Coming to the art, he has one of the best batik designs I have myself as an art collector seen.. if you happen to give a design he can recreate it, but it will take a few days. Please ask for a small tour of the workshop, it’s where all the magic happens and take a small walk around his lovely garden..

I was told there were some great batik shops in Hikkaduwa but only found mass produced touristy stuff on Galle road. I saw this place on the map and came because of the good reviews - and it did not disappoint! The artist and his wife were so enthusiastic and patient as I picked out the artwork, which btw are 100% handmade, as they showed me the process as well. Prices were also reasonable. I ended up getting a few wall hangings and a wrap. Love them!

Beautiful designs on 100% cotton. He can make silk too. Out of the tourists area but worth the visit. He showed us he’s work station and process-real artist. There’s wall hanging, table cloths, dresses and tops.

During off season we spontanously dropped by the Genuine Batik. The owner was very friendly and showed us his Batik workshop. He also explained how he made the Batik. All the Batik is handmade by himself which he sells for a fair price :)

Very good place to buy high quality batik. The owner was kind enough and showed us his workplace and explained how the skill of batikmaking is done. He finished our elephant batik right on time and it looks amazing. Thank you very much sir
